Arc 1: Kanto

Chapter 2: Aura of the Jackal

Ash and Riolu were making their way to Professor Oak's lab as they talked "...Professor Oak is giving me the pokédex to help him on his work."

Riolu nodded, knowing that part already. "Ri, Ri."

Ash rubbed the back of his head "Well, yeah, we could have gone earlier, but I promised Gary to go out at the same time."

Riolu nodded as they arrived at the lab. Gary Oak was waiting for him, and once he spotted them, he smirked "Hey Ashy. Riolu."

Riolu nodded to Gary and Ash smiled "Hey Gary. Ready to go?"

Gary grinned "I was born ready for this. And even if you have a couple of months with a Pokémon already, I will still beat you." Gary challenged and Ash grinned.

"You can always try."

They kept walking towards the lab, with friendly banter between the three. Once they arrived, they entered and Oak was there, in front of a Pokéball and behind him the Pokédex. "Ash, Gary, I hope you two are ready to begin your journey."

Gary smirked "You bet I am gramps."

Ash nodded smiling "Don't worry Professor! In no time I'll be the champion!"

Riolu nodded "Riolu!"

Oak chuckled and handed them a pokédex "This is a modified version of the regular Pokédex, called the national dex. As the name suggest, it has in its database the information of every Pokémon in the country, not only Kanto."

Gary raised a brow "Neat, but why the sudden change?"

Oak smiled "Well, after meeting Riolu, I've decided that in case you meet Pokémons from other regions, you will be preapered."

Ash nodded "Good thinking Professor. He opened the Pokédex and scanned Riolu "Let's register you right away buddy."

"Ri!"

The Pokédex scanned Riolu for a couple of seconds before it spoke "Riolu; The Emanation Pokémon; A Fighting Type Pokémon capable of seeing auras and communicate with them. This Riolu knows Quick Attack, Force Palm, Counter and Endure and has Inner Focus as its ability."

Ash grinned "It works! Also, you're pretty strong, buddy."

Riolu smirked "Ri!"

Oak chuckled "In the Pokédex says that you two are sponsored by me. They will ask you that in Pokécenters and gyms." He informed and Ash nodded.

"Then we're off! Let's go Riolu!"

"Riolu!"

As they left Oak turned to Gary "Well, just like you asked, you'll get the same starter as your brother, Squirtle."

*Route 1*

As Ash and Riolu left Pallet Town and entered Route 1, they were excited. Finally! There adventure has began!

They fought a couple of Rattata and Pidgey but nothing special yet. They want a strong team member that is just as motivated as they are.

After a couple of hours walking, they stopped a couple of kilometers away from Viridian City to rest. "From what I read, Giovanni, the Viridian City Gym Leader, only accept challengers with 7 badges, so we can go either to Pewter City, it will take us two days if we go through the Viridian Forest or to Vermilion City if we go across the Digglet Cave." Ash said and Riolu scratched his chin.

"Ri, Ri?"

Ash hummed "Well, Pewter Gym Leader, Brock, uses rock type Pokémon, while Lt. Surge, the Gym Leader of Vermilion, uses electric type, so maybe we should go after Brock first."

Riolu smiled and punched the air "Riolu!"

Ash chuckled "Yes, I am sure you will do great against them. Now, are you ready to eat?"

"Riolu!"

As Ash started to prepare the camp fire, Riolu was punching and kicking a tree, getting himself pumped up. In the time he has been with Ash, he hasn't faced many wild Pokémon, so he is just aching for the chance to do it.

And it seems the time has come.

In the distance, Riolu watched a Rattata and perked up "Ri!"

Ash looked from where he was and saw Riolu pointing to the Rattata "Riolu!"

"You want to fight it?" Ash asked and Riolu nodded making Ash laugh "Fine, dinner can wait! Let's go Riolu!"

"Ri!"

The Rattata looked up as Ash ordered his first attack "Riolu! Quick attack!"

"Riolu!"

The Rattata didn't even notice as Riolu appeared in a blur in front of him and kicked him towards some bushes.

Riolu pumped his fist in the air and Ash grinned "Great one buddy!"

They were about to walk back to their camp, when the Rattata was sent back to them. They looked back, to see an angry flock of Spearows.

Without warning, they attacked.

Ash grabbed Riolu and started to ran away. He knew that Riolu is weak against flying type. But he isn't that fast and the Spearows caught up to him.

"Ri!" Riolu screamed in worry as Ash covered him with his body as the Spearows pecked him.

"Don't worry, buddy..." Ash muttered "I'll protect you."

"Riolu!" Riolu was trying to push Ash away, so that he can fight. But Ash didn't budge.

But then, Riolu started to shine.

Ash was pushed away as Riolu started to grow bigger. The Spearows backed away a bit as the evolution was complete.

Ash pulled his pokédex as it gave the new entry "Lucario; The Aura Pokémon, the evolved form of Riolu. By sensing the aura of his oponents, he can read his movements and thoughts."

Lucario glared at the Spearows in front of him as they gave a shriek and charged. Due to his new steel type, he became neutral to their attacks as he charged an aura sphere and shot it towards the flock, hitting some and scaring the rest away.

He quickly turned to Ash that managed to sit down and rushed to him "Lucario!"

Ash grinned to his friend "Don't worry bud, I am fine." He hissed "You look great."

Lucario smirked "Luca."

He helped him stand up and carried Ash all the way to Viridian.

*Viridian City*

"What happened to you Young Man!?" Lucario and Ash turned towards Officer Jenny that saw the state of Ash's back.

"Spearows. Lots of them." Ash said and Jenny nodded.

"Good thing that the Pokécenter is nearby. Let me help you." She went to him and Lucario glared her.

"Lucario."

Ash smiled "Don't worry buddy. She can help."

As they arrived to the Pokécenter, and Nurse Joy started to treat Ash's back, He talked with Lucario "Now for sure we have Pewter's Badge in the bag."

Lucario smirked and nodded "Lu!"
