Luna's fingers curled around the cool plastic of the water bottle sitting on the nightstand. A small part of her marveled at the fact Draco had remembered to cool it for her. She could feel the cooling charm slipping away at her touch.
"You alright?" his voice asked from the other room. Luna sat up, taking the bottle, opening it, and taking a sip. She screwed the plastic lid back on and set it back down.
"I'm fine, worn out, but fine," she replied. "You didn't need to do all of this," she added, knowing Draco had been the one to carry her to the bed. He'd obviously changed her out of her clothing and into something to sleep in. He'd left the bottle of water for her.
"I did, it's part of what I signed up for, isn't it? Well, it's the what the ministry signed me up for."
"At least they got one match right," Luna commented, sliding out of the bed and walking into the small central area of their hotel room.
"True," Draco replied, rising to his own feet to kiss Luna good morning. "I also already ordered us some food. I figured you'd be starving since I doubt you remembered to eat at the site."
Luna laughed. Draco was right. She'd been so busy examining the remains of the nest, she'd forgotten to eat, and drink, which is what had led to her collapsing in the first place. She felt like they were getting so close to finding some answers that the rest of the world seemed to disappear entirely.
"Good. I'm going to go get dressed while we wait then."
"Let me guess, you're going back today?"
"I have to! Those egg remnants prove I was right about that part of it. If we can figure out where the mother went, why the nest was abandoned in the first place, we might finally be able to actually map the migration!"
"You passed out yesterday, you're taking a day off," Draco stated. There was a knock on the door. Draco retrieved their breakfast and sat it down on the table.
"But..."
"Luna, I know this important to you, that this is your life's work, but if you pass out again, what if no one finds you? What if something happens to you, out there, alone? Then all the research will be for nothing. No one else believes in this like you do, no one else will put the proper time and effort into investigating this creature," Draco stated, pouring Luna a cup of juice. She sipped it while he plated the rest of the food.
"That is a good point," she said after a moment. "I guess maybe one day might be alright. There's no talk about rain that could wash away anything."
"Exactly. Besides, we still have to deal with rest of this marriage law thing, unless you've forgotten about the second part of it?"
"I haven't. I'm just not ready to put my life on hold to have children, not yet. We still have a year according to the law, right?" she asked, stabbing her eggs with her fork.
"About that, yes. I'm just worried, I mean, the ministry is..."
"I know," Luna said, reaching over and putting her hand on Draco's. "We'll get it figured out, we've got the time to hopefully do both, find my creature and comply with their nonsense, although, isn't Hermione still trying to find a way out of it, to annul all the ministry marriages?"
"She is, last I heard from Uncle Severus," Draco laughed. "Would you want our marriage annulled?"
"No, never! And she's not going to want hers either, once she finally gives Professor Snape a chance. So, since I'm not going to the site today, want to spend the day here, just lazing around? I'll probably end up falling asleep at some point, yesterday did take a lot out of me."
"Sounds good, maybe I can even get the telly working and we could watch a film," Draco suggested.
"Perfect. And I would have married you even if the ministry hadn't told me I had to."
"Same," Draco agreed, turning his attention back to his breakfast while Luna did the same.
