Drowning, she was drowning in deep blue, the purpley blue of the sky. There was a name, indigo, she remembered it from her lessons. Now, the world seemed bathed in the at color. She'd always joked about the name.
"What's digo and what's in it?" she'd asked. No one had had an answer for her then. They'd only laughed at the childish question, at the misunderstanding of a word. There had been no misunderstanding, just word play that remained on her mind until she'd found the answer.
Now, now she knew the answer. Digo was love, it was passion, and she, she was what was in it. A streak of brilliant white crossed the sky.
"Make a wish," her lover's voice whispered in her ear.
"Why? I have everything I've ever dreamed about right here."
The sky was darkening ever so slightly. Indigo became navy, became black, became the complete darkness that covered the world the same way love for Rolf had completely covered her heart.
"Good," he replied, kissing her over and over, their bodies melding in the barest of shadows in the darkest of the night. Indigo, indigo was love, indigo was all the wondering, all the questions she'd ever had. Indigo would be their first child's name, born from the love of that night, when she'd declined to make a wish, when she'd told the world she needed nothing more. How wrong she'd been. She'd thought her heart was full but that first scream, that cry, had filled her heart to the point of overflowing. Their Indigo, their little one who looked at the world with curious eyes, who one day would ask the same question.
"What's digo and what's in it?" and Luna would tell them of the night, of the love that the color shined, her eyes sparkling with joy.
