Luna looked up as the cream colored hat blew past her legs. She reached down, grabbing its wide brim. It was only a minute later when she heard someone running towards her. The woman had long black curls that bounced as she moved, her skin shone slightly with sweat and there was an annoyed expression on her face.
"Did you lose something?" Luna asked, holding up the hat. The woman's face relaxed to an almost smile.
"Thank you, I was walking and the wind ripped it from my head. I'm Alicia."
"Luna," Luna answered, handing Alicia the hat. Their fingertips touched for a moment before they both pulled their hands away. "Where are you heading?"
"What makes you think I'm headed somewhere?"
"Well, this is a train station," Luna pointed out with a shrug of her shoulder. The strap of her pale blue dress slid down her shoulder a bit. "I'm going out to the country, to the middle of nowhere in hopes of seeing something no one's ever seen."
"Would you believe I'm running away from wealth and fame?" Alicia asked, sitting down next to Luna on the concrete bench.
"I'd believe it. But why would you run from those things, isn't that what most people want?"
"Most people, you don't want that?"
"Nope, just to see the unseen. I like being me, and I know those things would change who I am. Is that why you're running, because you don't want to lose yourself?"
"Maybe," Alicia whispered, looking down at her long pale pink painted nails. "I'm supposed to marry someone."
"Someone important?"
"He thinks he is."
"So instead, you're at a train station wearing a cream colored two piece dress with a matching hat, painted nails, your hair done up. You ran away from the wedding, didn't you?"
"I did! I'm terrified he's going to come looking for me."
"Follow me, I've got an idea," Luna stated, rising to her feet. Alicia did the same. Together they slipped into the washroom.
"Go in that stall, take off your wedding things and toss them to me. I think you'll fit some of my clothing. They'll be looking for a runaway bride, not an assistant researcher."
"Good plan," Alicia replied, a slight laugh in her voice as she did as Luna asked. A few moments later, Alicia exited the stall wearing a pair of khaki cargo shorts and a button down blouse. Luna's eyes widened. The shorts were a bit shorter on Alicia than they would have been on Luna and accented Alicia's long legs nicely.
"I don't think my shoes will fit, so you'll be stuck with those for now," Luna pointed out, looking at Alicia's pearl decorated flats.
"It's fine, they're actually comfortable. So now what?"
"You could come with me, I wasn't joking about needing an assistant, I mean, that is, if you're interested in being in the middle of nowhere, getting covered in dust and dirt and Merlin only knows what else."
"But you'll be there, with me?"
"Of course, is your penmanship legible?"
"Yes!"
"Perfect, you can help me take notes since mine's been compared to the marks chickens make in the dirt of their pens. Oh, there's the whistle, we should hurry if we're going to catch the train!"
"But I haven't got a ticket."
"I bought an extra one, I had a feeling I needed it," Luna replied, grabbing Alicia's hand and rushing out onto the platform just in time for them to jump onto the train heading to the middle of nowhere. Alicia watched the station as the train departed, watched several men in tuxedos flood the platform. They were too late, she'd done it, she'd left him and hopefully with Luna, she'd find her place.
