The day had finally arrived for the UA entrance exam. Kacchan, Shoko and I were walking toward the front entrance of the massive building that served as the foremost hero school in the nation. Kacchan and I lived right next to each other, so there was no way we weren't going together and Shoko only lived a few blocks away, so her path intersected ours, so she joined us midway. Shoko had begun training with us after the Yakuza incident a few months ago. After that nothing major happened, it was just a few months of training and study for this very day. Looking at the building now I could see just how large it really was. To be honest I wondered if the school really needed so many stories. I mean it wasn't like the student population was particularly small, but did it really get enough students to warrant so many stories?
"What the hell are ya gawking at Deku!" Kacchan brought me out of my reflections with her usual abrasive attitude.
"Izu-kun was gawking. I couldn't tell." Shoko said with a small tilt of her head. "I mean when someone gawks, they usually are more like." The quirky girl dropped her mouth and her eyes bugged out like she was in complete awe or surprise. "But Izu-kun was more like." She changed her expression to a stone cold neutral stare that showed no emotion.
"It's the eyes you idiot. You're just not paying enough attention." The blonde bomber huffed at the girl's comparitive lack of perception.
"Really? Come one Izu-kun, you've gotta show me." Shoko declared as she invaded my personal space once again.
"Hey! Get away from him." Kacchan ordered the girl as she pulled her away from me.
"Aww, you're no fun." The half hot, half cold girl pouted at my childhood friend. She huffed before she began to walk off and said, "Whatever, I've gotta go to a different place since I got a recommendation. Have fun with whatever the regular tests are Izu-kun, Kacchan."
"Don't call me that!" Kacchan yelled after the retreating girl with small explosions going off in her hands.
On that note I started walking toward the entrance and Kacchan soon followed. The written exam was a step above anything I did in Aldera but I had long since sped through the highschool curriculum with my tutors. To be honest the only reason I really still went to school was because Kacchan was there and mom wanted me to have the social experience of actually going to school. While I did have my previous life's memories to help jumpstart my education, I felt as though I was just smarter than in this life. Considering I had long term memory from the moment I was born again, it wasn't an unmerited theory.
Nevertheless, we soon were given the explanation by Present Mic about the practical exam that as far as I could tell was exactly the same as canon. I think. While I do have near photographic memory in this life, all of my past life is rather fuzzy. I still remembered the broad strokes but many of the little details have been lost to me at this point. Hopefully that doesn't come back to haunt me.
Anyways, the trip to the testing grounds was likewise very uneventful and now I was just waiting for the test to begin. I had already finished doing my stretches and was standing still with my eyes closed and the Tsumukari Muramasa standing ready in its sheath by my side. While I was waiting there someone bumped into my back.
"Ah, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to-" The voice stopped as I turned around and looked at the person in question. Uraraka was standing there waving her arms back and forth. As she finally got a good look at my face she went from apologetic to fearful. "I, um, please forgive me!" After saying that she ran off.
"Threatening prospective students not even a day in. How entirely unbecoming of an applicant to this prestigious institution." A new voice called out. Tenya Ida was doing his patented arm swiping while he began to chastise me.
"I didn't do anything. She bumped into me, apologized, and then left. Nothing happened. Now could you buzz off? Some of us are trying to prepare themselves for the exam." I retorted back at the Ida scion.
"Grr, you're right I jumped to conclusions and am now interrupting other students' preparations. I apologize." The man with engines for calves immediately realized and apologized. Wow, he immediately realized his mistake and then made amends. Something like that usually takes days for Kacchan.
"It's alright, just focus on yourself." I told the high strung hero aspirant.
Ida went back to his preparations leaving me alone in my thoughts. I had made the Tsumukari Muramasa into my support item. Usually something that wouldn't be allowed but thanks to its ability to change its sharpness, the sword was given the ok. Right now I was calming myself and steadying my breath waiting for something to happen. We were told that the exam would be here but were given no explanation on when it would begin. Around half of the people here were either gathering their thoughts like me or were conversing amongst each other.
"Right, let's start! Get moving." Present Mic screamed as the massive doors to the grounds opened up.
I didn't need any further encouragement. With a sprint I took off into the city. The robots that I fought along my path weren't very hard to fight. None of them were fast or agile enough to dodge the Tsumukari Muramasa. Considering that they were just steel constructions with no metaphysical resistance to the cutting power that my weapon had as a Conceptual Weapon they stood no chance. My sword sliced through them like they were made of butter. I mostly went in a straight line through the fake city, finding and cutting through any and all robots in my way in a single precise swing for each enemy while never stopping for even a moment.
One, two, and three pointers were all taken out in rapid succession with me cutting a swathe through the fake city leaving only wrecks in my path. After a while I ran out of robots to destroy and ended back up on the main street to look for more. It seems quite a few other students were also on the main street because it seemed that there was still a large concentration of robots there. I ran to take out a few of them before the rest of the applicants could mop the rest of them up. I was able to get a three pointer and two one pointers before a massive robot finally appeared looming above even the buildings at the end of the street. The zero pointer fired off a massive punch that launched rubble and dust to the ground.
The prospective students all made to run away from the massive robot, but I could see Uraraka was stuck under some rubble. This scene felt familiar, but I couldn't put my finger on it. I didn't spend any time thinking on that as the zero pointer was coming this way. If it continued like this then Uraraka would be run over.
I grabbed Ida as he was running by the arm. "What are you doing? This is-" Ida started in anger before I cut him off.
"Calves, there's a girl stuck under some rubble over there." I pointed to Uraraka. "You're fast. Go help her. The zero pointer will run her over if this continues."
Ida seemed conflicted for a second before he gave me a firm nod, "Alright, I'm on it."
"I'll try to distract the robot. Just get the girl out of here." I told the blue haired boy.
Ida and I took off in Uraraka's direction with Ida arriving before the girl a few seconds before I passed them. The zero pointer had launched out another fist toward the ground near Uraraka.
I breathed in. I unsheathed the Tsumukari Muramasa as the fist came rocketing toward us. In a lightning quick Iaido maneuver, I cut through the machine's robotic fist through several places. Three of the robot's fingers came crashing down to the ground, completely severed from the machine's synthetic hand. The giant robot seemed to be pushed back for the briefest of moments. Something I took advantage of as I ran and jumped as hard as I could atop the synthetic arm of my enemy. Sprinting, I made my way up the giant's arm in complete defiance of gravity while cutting at the ground I was using to run up the robot.
Finally I reached the head of my robotic enemy. The large red lenses look to be cameras at first glance but there is a smaller black bulge that looks like a security camera in the middle of the robot's face. I immediately swung my blade for that camera, destroying it completely. After that I continued making my way up the robot to its relatively flat head. Once on it I pick a spot in the metal that I cut a square out of and kicked it in. Like I thought, the inside of its head was hollow save for the circuitry inside. I jumped inside and began cutting all of the circuitry inside. Once I felt as though I had cut enough I did the same trick I used to get in to get out the front side of the head. The robot was beginning to shake as it seemed it had completely lost the ability to use its remaining limb. Luckily this thing was on tracks, otherwise it would have begun falling over.
I ran down the robot's body to the ground. It wasn't easy because of the machine's instability but I had trained more than enough to be able to power through it.
Upon reaching the ground I heard Present Mic's voice ring over the fake city, "And that's it. Time's up!"
The exam went by quicker than I thought. Hopefully helping Uraraka didn't hurt me too much. I'm pretty sure canon Izuku didn't score many points and was still able to get into UA so I should be good. Although, I don't think I remember Izuku destroying any of the smaller robots. Just the large one to protect Uraraka like I did. I put my hand against my temple. Fate. Is this all predetermined? Is my choice to become a hero even mine? I mean I don't have One for All so something must be different.
I was drawn out of my contemplations by several of my prospective classmates speaking, "Amazing, did you see that? That guy totally just soloed the zero pointer."
"Holy crap, how the hell do you compete with that?"
"That guy's insane."
Seems I made an impression. I flourished the Tsumukari Muramasi; before I resheathed the blade. As I was rewrapping the shroud around the katana I could hear Uraraka's voice speaking to me, "Hey, um, thanks for helping me."
"Don't worry about it. You needed help so I helped. Hopefully you weren't stopped from getting enough points." I replied.
"Still you used your time to help me despite everything. To be honest when I met you earlier, I was kinda scared. Oh, um, I'm Uraraka Ochaco by the way." The brown haired girl said as she was poking her two pointer fingers together.
"Well if I want to be a hero in the future then how am I gonna just let someone possibly get killed in front of me when I could help." I told the girl while I scratched the back of my neck.
"Grrh, such an admirable way of thinking suited for a hero. I must say without you I would have kept running. You have beaten me today." Ida said as he approached Uraraka and I.
"Eh, I wouldn't think about it that way. More like we were able to save a life so does it really matter who won?" I asked the boy.
Ida bowed to me, "I truly have failed in that case. I don't have the qualities of a hero. Here I was just thinking about this as a test when I should have realized saving a life was far more important. Thank you for imparting this valuable lesson."
"Are you sure helping me didn't cut into your scores? I would hate for you two to fail because of me." Uraraka offered.
"Although I don't know what the usual scores are, I got quite a few points before I helped you out so I'm probably fine. I'll just have to work with a hundred twenty two points." I told the girl. From what I could tell, that was a pretty good score unless this testing ground got all the worst applicants. Uraraka's face showed pure disbelief when I stated my number, so that's probably a good sign.
Inside the hallowed halls of the UA staff room sat all the teachers of the Hero Course. Endeavor was of course one of the teachers currently sitting in on the discussion. Nezu, the principal, was about to begin the meeting to talk about the applicants and the results of their tests.
"Well now, we have quite a few promising new prospects this year. Why, I would even hazard to say that this year is one of the most promising I've seen in a while." The principal began.
"Yeah, did you see that red haired kid? What was it?" Snipe the gun hero stated as he rifled through his papers before reaching the one he wanted. "Kirishima. That kid took out a zero pointer as if it was nothing. To be honest I'm surprised he was only number two this year."
And that was the dig. What everyone didn't want to get to. The number one for the practical Izuku Midoriya.
"Midoriya." Eraserhead stated in a harsh tone. "I don't want him attending UA."
"Why not? The kid's got spunk. Not only did he score highly through villain points but he also got quite a few rescue points." Midnight asked in surprise.
"So you don't know." Enji asked the r-rated hero.
"Is there something I'm missing?" The heroine asked.
"The Midoriya Conglomerate is the largest private company in Japan, but that's not the real reason. The Midoriya family have been the leaders of the Amairin for generations. The same organization that we believe was behind the Yakuza resurgence five year ago." Eraserhead explained to Midnight.
"Yakuza ties? Then why are we still asking about whether or not the kid should be accepted." Cementoss asked.
"The Yakuza accusations are unsubstantiated and even if they were, I doubt we'd be able to stop anything the Midoriyas wanted. Such is their influence." Present Mic said in an uncharacteristically quiet tone.
"As much as I hate to say it. Yamada is correct. Currently over half of the shareholders for UA are either known Amairin associates or highly suspected of being underneath their thumb." Nezu told the faculty.
"So we've been infiltrated by criminals? How could this happen?" Ectoplasm bit out.
"Well the Amairin are primarily an economic organization that could be considered quite similar to a Trust. Unfortunately, unless we can substantiate our belief in their complicity with the Yakuza the laws have already been changed so that despite their monolithic size and control over Japanese society they are completely legal." Nezu said with a sigh.
"We don't need to take this as a negative. The Amairin are a powerful group and Izuku has been confirmed to be the heir so instead we could take this a chance to help reform the Amairin." All Might suggested.
"Are you suggesting we allow someone with Yakuza connections to infiltrate UA?" Cementoss asked.
"No, that's not what he's saying." Endeavor interjected. "He's saying that we don't have a choice in the first place so we could either look at his enrollment into UA as only negative or we could attempt to do something positive from it."
"It sounds to me like you're all judging the kid without any actual evidence. The only thing we can connect the kid to is the Amairin and Nezu said that they're perfectly legal." Midnight said her peace.
"It isn't unjustified. I don't want the kid coming in here and recruiting some of our students to become Amairin pawns." Eraserhead further pushed.
"If that's your goal then you've already failed. Four of the top ten examinees for the practical exam underneath Midoriya are all at least friends with him if not outright subordinate to him. That isn't including the two recommendation students." Enji stated.
"Oh and how would you happen to know that?" Eraserhead asked with a sting in his voice.
"When the most powerful man in the country asks something of you, do you say no? Nothing happens in Japan without Midoriya Hisashi's approval. I'm not saying it's right, but I am saying that even if we were to depose the man, Japan will be in a worse place." Enji told the naive hero.
"Then you work under him?" Eraserhead jabbed back.
"Hold up, let's calm down. The Amairin are a powerful force and I have personally worked with them in the past. While I cannot agree with the Amairin due to their methods, it doesn't change the fact that the organization is a force that, if directected correctly, can be a powerful force for good." All Might spoke up.
"I still cannot stand for this. This school is supposed to be free from such influences." Eraserhead grumbled.
"How about this Aizawa, you will be given Izuku and you can watch over him to make sure that he isn't doing anything questionable." Nezu conceded.
"If we really don't have a choice then I suppose it is acceptable." Eraserhead relented.
After that argument finished and the teachers went onto more lighthearted subjects and finished choosing which students to accept and which classes they would be placed.
I was walking within the halls of UA to class 1-A wearing my new UA uniform. On my shoulder was a bag strapped on with the Tsumukari Muramasa inside. Behind me Kacchan and Shoko were having a heated argument. Well, Kacchan was and Shoko was just curiously asking the girl about why she was so high strung in the first place. Soon we reached the classroom and opened the door. It seemed like most of the class was already here. Kaede and Momo stopped the conversation they were having when they saw me and approached.
"Izuku, good to see you." Momo curtly greeted me.
"You're almost late. You should take care of your time better." Kaede scolded me.
"Hey it's not my fault these two are like cats and dogs. I swear they'd start destroying city streets if I didn't defuse them." I pointed to Kacchan who had gone from arguing to giving Shoko the cold shoulder while Shoko hadn't changed at all and had started poking Kacchan's side.
"Yep, sounds like a normal day for those two." Mina said jovially from her desk.
"Hey, you're that guy from the entrance exam." Uraraka said from behind me, just reaching the classroom. "Thanks for that by the way. You were so cool too when you did it. You were like whoosh, crack, slice. It was amazing." She gushed.
"Don't mention it. It was nothing." I simply replied.
"Oh who did you help now Boss?" Kirishima asked as he entered the conversation.
"Midoriya helped me out during the practical exam. I got stuck under some rubble and a zero pointer was approaching. He totally destroyed the zero pointer like it was nothing. It was awesome." Uraraka explained to the rock solid man.
"That sounds so cool. I wish I could have been there." Kirishima complained.
I sighed, "You took out your own zero pointer, you'll be fine."
"Yeah but I just punched it really hard. Not very interesting." Kirishima replied.
"You took on a zero pointer?" Kaede appeared right in front of me with her finger already wagging. "How many times have I told you not to recklessly charge into situations?"
"Uh oh, there goes Mama Kaede." Mina said with a giggle.
"I must agree, while impressive, taking out a zero pointer is far too dangerous." Momo agreed far too easily.
"Hey wait, Kirishima took out a zero pointer. Why am I the only one getting flak?" I reasoned.
"Because he's the one with the stupid strong quirk Deku." Kacchan said, finally coming out of her self imposed silence.
"Yep and if he dies then I don't get in trouble." Shoko provided a surprisingly reasonable response.
"Just because I can't move faster than the sound barrier doesn't mean I'm not capable of taking out giant robots." I uttered weakly in response.
"Wait, you don't have a strong quirk? But you were cutting through the zero pointer like it was made of tissue paper. Actually, what is your quirk by the way? Is it some sharpening quirk?" Uraraka asked, genuinely curious.
Just as I was about to answer, a new face appeared and began speaking, "You, I must thank you again for showing the error of my ways during the exam. Not only did you score the highest in villain points, you also scored quite well in rescue points. You are truly an ideal student that I aspire to be as good as." Ida had appeared quickly and was giving me a bow again.
"Wait, that guy is the one who scored the highest in villain points and destroyed a zero pointer!" Kaminari exclaimed from his seat in realization. "How the hell did you do it man? I mean the next highest guy only got ninety villain points."
That seemed to get everyone's attention. Suddenly the entire room was staring at me. But before I could speak another did, "If you just want to talk then you can pack up your bags and go home." Shota Aizawa aka Eraserhead was speaking from the entrance. He was standing in his traditional heroic attire in a relaxed stance but I could feel his gaze was on me. "Otherwise, you can put these on and head outside. I'm Aizawa Shota and I'm your teacher." He started walking but stopped after a few steps and said, "Oh, and welcome to UA."
Soon everyone in the class was standing outside wearing the UA gym uniform. Aizawa gave us a quick rundown on how and why we were doing the physical examination. Aizawa got to the end of his speech before he frowned for a split second and then called out, "Midoriya, you scored highest on the practical exam. What was your farthest distance thrown with a softball in junior high?"
"Two hundred and four meters Aizawa-sensei." I replied.
Aizawa threw the softball in his hand to me which I caught before he continued, "Beat that record. Anything goes so long as you stay within the designated area."
I readied myself by taking out the Tsumukari Muramasa from my bag and unwrapping the shroud. While I was doing so I heard some whispering among my fellow classmates. Something about me being on an olympic level. It didn't really matter to me as I threw up the softball and waited for it to come back down again. I got into a beginning Iaido stance with my legs spread apart and hands on the handle and the blade's sheath respectively. When the softball finally came down I unleashed my strike in a lightning quick movement that would be impossible for civilians to track. The ball was launched beyond my visual range.
"We need to know your limits. It's the most rational way of figuring out your potential as a pro hero." Aizawa told the class as he showed the range tracker he was holding in his hands. It showed the ball had gone about seven hundred meters. "On that note. Midoriya, if I'm going to teach you I'm going to need to know your quirk."
"My quirk? Didn't you see my paperwork?" I asked.
"Yes, that section was left blank and I checked the public quirk database and there was no record there either." The ruffled black haired teacher ground out. There was animosity in his words and gaze.
"I see, that makes sense. Well I don't have a quirk, never have. The sword is a prototype support item that changes sharpness at will. I do have a slight healing factor due to my training but other than that I've got nothing." I explained to the disgruntled man whose face was somewhere in between surprise and disbelief. The part of the class that I had no prior connections to exploded into conversation but before that could get out of hand Aizawa spoke up, "Alright everyone, calm down." After quieting everyone the tired teacher turned back to me and began, "You have no quirk?"
"Yes sir. I'm just exceptionally well trained." I responded.
"With no quirk you'll have to work far harder than anyone else and even then you'll still face far greater scrutiny than anyone with a quirk. I won't expel you just because of that but if you can't keep up don't think that I won't." Aizawa harshly stated.
"I expected as much when I applied. I'll just have to make sure that I live up to expectations." I remarked.
"Very well." Aizawa simply responded before he turned to the rest of the class. "Just so everyone knows. The one who gets the last place will be expelled."
The class got up in arms about that for a minute until Aizawa explained that he could do exactly just that. The rest of the tests were very standard with me consistently getting above average scores for every test. Kirishima had received One for All about three months ago and was working at around thirty percent right now so there wasn't really any contest about who got number one in most of the tests excluding any outliers like Uraraka's infinity for the softball throw. Throughout the test I could feel Aizawa's gaze settle on me at times. That being said, I still ended with a score that made me number two in the class with Kacchan following a few points right behind me. In the end Aizawa revealed his ruse and class wrapped up for the day.
"Dang Kirishima, just how strong is your quirk? And here we all thought it just hardened your skin this whole time." Shoko asked the inheritor of One for All.
"Aha well you see. It just-" Kirishima tried explaining but was clearly struggling so I interjected.
"Yep, I told ya that you had it in you." I quickly said as I patted Kirishima's back.
"Hrmph, it's not anything special. You just hit things really hard." Kacchan grumbled.
"I gotta disagree, Kirishima, that quirk of yours is amazing. Here I am stuck with a tail while you change the very environment with every one of your movements." Ojiro exalted the red haired boy.
"He's right, Kirishima. Be proud of what you've done and earned. While you might be lucky to have such a great quirk, you were only able to achieve true strength through your own effort." I told my embarrassed rock solid friend.
"Boss!" Kirishima shouted with manly tears falling from his eyes.
"Hmph, mine is still better." The blonde bomber stated as she crossed her arms and pouted.
"Yes, yes. You still have the best quirk." I replied.
"Ooh, it's so cute when you pout like that Katsumi!" Mina squealed.
"I know right." Shoko agreed as she put her hands together with Mina.
"Hey shut the hell up! I ain't cute!" Kacchan exclaimed with tiny explosions going off in her hands. "Oi, Deku I'm the scariest, right?" Kacchan asked as she approached me.
I gave her the largest smile I could and replied, "Of course, I'm shaking in my boots."
"Don't you dare make fun of me Deku! I'll turn you into ash!" Kacchan declared as she started sprinting toward me with explosions going off to propel her forward.
Uh oh. Looks like I provoked the beast. "See you guys later." I quickly said to the others before I sprinted off.
"Get back here Deku! I still haven't incinerated you!" Kacchan swore in the background.
Mina Ashido had arrived at UA the next day and had slogged through the day until finally the class reached the best class of the day. Hero Basic Training class which was being led by All Might. As one might expect many in the class freaked out when he showed up to teach. Thankfully it didn't take too long until everyone was able to get over their literal hero worship and we were able to leave for the training grounds and begin our training. It was a standard hero vs villain exercise where we were split into groups of two that were supposed to compete against each other.
"Alright then. For our first exercise we will have team Midoriya, Mariya as villains against team Shoji, Todoroki as heroes. The villain team will be granted fifteen minutes to prepare." All Might explained to everyone. Everyone in Class 1-A besides the two groups mentioned were within a control room watching on screen what was happening.
Kaede and Izuku had entered a large multistory building and began their preparations. "Izuku what's our plan?" Kaede asked the green haired boy as she looked at the fake bomb they were supposed to be protecting.
"You'll defend the bomb with your wards and I'll take care of Kacchan and Shoko." Izuku told his teammate.
"That's it? It sounds to me like you're putting yourself in needless danger again. We could fight together or I could even lay traps." Kaede chastised Izuku again with her signature finger wag making a comeback.
"Shoko has too much firepower to make laying traps a viable option. You need to stay focused on protecting the bomb. Shoko will likely flash freeze the whole building so you need to be ready to protect yourself from that. That and you don't have the physical capabilities of either Shoji or Shoko. Remember to use the sound canceling barrier by the way." Izuku explained to the girl.
"That doesn't change the fact that you'll be once again recklessly charging into danger without support." Kaede pressed forth.
"Don't worry about me. I've got a plan. Besides, I'm not totally unassisted." Izuku said, patting a bag adorned on his hip with a smirk gracing his lips.
"Hah, fine, just don't come to me when you need to get patched up." Kaede stated with a sigh and a slight twitch of her lips.
"Wow I'm surprised Mama Kaede let go of Izu-kun with just that. Usually she would go into a ten minute long rant on how Izu-kun needs to be more careful." Mina spoke in surprise.
"She's probably letting him off the hook since it's just a training exercise." Momo made a guess.
"Nah you're looking into it too deep. She's just happy Deku's using her talismans." Katsumi grumbled.
"You guys sure know alot about Midoriya." Jiro said to them out of nowhere. "Actually, you three, Todoroki, Kirishima, and Kaede all seem to know each other."
"Yeah, we all trained together before the start of UA." Mina responded with a cute pose.
"Huh, and you all got in? A bit surprising, all things considered." Jiro remarked.
"Yep, we all trained super hard." Mina said with a smile.
"Well if you consider how talented and hardworking each of the members of our little group is, then it is of little surprise that we all made it into UA." Momo stated facts.
"Time's up! The heroes may now begin their search for the bomb!" All Might spoke over the mic to both teams.
It seems as though Izuku was correct, because as soon as All Might gave the go ahead Shoko immediately froze half of the several story building solid. It seems as though Kaede was fine as a translucent green cube surrounded her and the bomb which prevented the ice from leaking in. Izuku on the other hand… Actually, where was Izuku? Mina couldn't find him on any of the cameras. Deciding to turn her gaze elsewhere Mina focused on the approaching Shoko and Shoji. Both were moving quite fast with Shoji using his extra arms to help keep up his speed while Shoko was sliding forward on ice.
This continued for some time until inside the building the power went out suddenly. The cameras they were watching through switched to night vision. Shoko and Shoji stopped for a second.
"Uh oh, looks like Izu-kun really wants to beat us. You wouldn't happen to be able to see in the dark?" Shoko asked her partner.
"Not specifically, but I can increase my sensory capabilities to make it so that the darkness is not nearly so bad. I was hoping to use it to locate the bomb but I can only feel one set of steps." The white haired multi-armed hero candidate responded to his partner.
"Hmm, I can create light with my fire but that also gives away my position and will likely play into Izu-kun's hand. This will slow us down. Thankfully we do now have some information from it though. It looks like one of them is moving to intercept us and the other is standing still guarding the bomb itself. If we can't feel out where the bomb is from your senses then we'll need to act fast to win this within the allotted time. How about this, point me in the right direction and we'll slide there on my ice." Shoko laid out their plan.
"Sounds good to me." Shoji simply responded.
"Hahaha." The sound of Izuku's voice rang out in small laughs.
"Where did that come from?" Shoko quickly asked, getting into a ready stance.
"I don't know. It echoed too much for me to get a definite location." Shoji responded.
"I hope you're ready." Izuku singsonged from seemingly nowhere yet everywhere at the same time.
"Todoroki, watch out! To your left!" Shoji called out to his partner.
A rapidly approaching Izuku barely made a sound despite his speed came swinging at Shoko. The red and white haired girl flung out a large gout of fire toward Izuku's position. The swordsman intercepted the flames with one swing that cut through the fire, splitting into two halves that flung to his sides. The flames revealed Izuku's form for a split second. In his hero outfit Izuku was wearing a black, white, and red suit that was covered in armor. The costume seemed to be inspired by traditional samurai armor except that Izuku wore no helmet and had a container on his waist that held what looked like slips of paper.
"Did he just cut fire?!" Kaminari screeched from his position.
Yeah Mina had acted the same the first time Izuku had done that little trick. How the hell he actually did it was anyone's guess.
"Come and get me." Izuku's voice rang out again in an echo.
"How the hell did he do that? He should be as blind in here as I am." Shoko complained out loud.
"Yeah, how did he do that?" Jiro asked from Mina's side.
"I'm not sure actually. I have a few theories but from what I know all of them would be ruled out." Momo exposited.
"He's been trained to fight without sight." Kacchan simply said as if that was all they needed.
"Wait really? I had no idea. When did that happen?" Mina asked as she didn't remember Izuku ever showing off such an ability.
"How do you think he reacts to strikes that come in from his blind spots? Izuku's dad wanted the perfect little heir and spared no expense. As far as I know, he even went through pseudo quirk training." Kacchan spoke in a low voice.
"Pseudo quirk training?" Mina asked, completely unfamiliar with the subject.
"Its super soldier training given to a very few people due to its strain on the body and high chance for failure. Despite the high chances that one can be crippled for life the payout is a mild healing factor and strength increase." Kacchan explained.
"Wait, Izuku got super soldier training? Does he have a quirk then?" Jiro asked, sounding quite interested.
"Technically no, at best it could be considered a pseudo quirk as the name of the training suggests. Instead of enhancing a naturally occurring quirk, the training instead stimulates one's quirk factor in a way that causes it to adapt to the strain put upon the human body. At the end of the day all it does is enhance already naturally occurring processes instead of doing something new. This usually happens to those that intensely work out already but pseudo quirk training takes that up to eleven." Kacchan explained in a rare bout of calmness without taking her eyes off the screen.
Mina looked back upon the screen to find that Shoko had started sending out huge gouts of fire or ice and still wasn't able to get Izuku. The hero team was stuck and unable to advance while the clock was ticking on.
Eventually time ran out and All Might gave the signal to end the exercise. Izuku had effectively stalemated the enemy teams. Mina wondered just what the future held.
A/N: The Entrance Exam and the battle training are finished.
So I really don't like retreading canon for the most part. That being said we will be following canon up to the Forest Training Camp Arc. Of course there will be differences both big and small while we're still following canon but we won't majorly break away from it until then with the exception that the Stain Arc isn't happening. This also won't be a straight line either as we'll still have Izuku go on his own adventures outside of school.
Next Chapter: The Underworld
Until next time signing out.
Beta's Note: Haha! He's right. Retreading over canon can be annoying. Especially because it feels like basically everyone does it.
Anyways, time for a little self-promotion. I have started my own fic "A Moment of Magic" which is a cross between Worm, Campione!, and Puella Magi.
