Luna curled her toes in the sand, the beach spreading out as far as she could see.
"Luna, are you sure about this?" Pansy asked, looking around distastefully. "It's just... there's sand everywhere, it's getting everywhere and the salt-"
"You agreed to be nice today, Pansy, remember?" Luna asked, giving Pansy a look. Pansy sighed.
"Fine, you're right. I did agree. I still don't see why we couldn't meet your friends somewhere else, somewhere less...messy."
"You've never even played on a beach, never built a sand castle, have you?" Luna asked.
"No. I have not. My family did not holiday in places such as this," Pansy replied, watching Luna sit down on the sand.
"Sit, watch the waves with me until everyone else arrives," Luna said. Pansy wrinkled her nose, but did as requested. The sand was hot beneath her.
"How do you build one of these sandcastle things you keep talking about?" she finally asked.
"Here, like this," Luna instructed, showing Pansy how to build a sand castle, soon they'd made several walls and towers.
"Look at this shell!" Pansy exclaimed, holding up a white spiral shell. "I think it should be on the castle."
"I agree, here's another one," Luna pointed out. They started looking for more shells, Pansy even crawling on the sand, picking up things they could use.
"I've got some seaweed, a stick, I was thinking we could make a flag?"
"Perfect! We can put it on the top tower!"
"Looking good!" Neville's voice rang out as he walked over to them. Hannah, Ginny and Draco followed him.
"She made me come," Draco whined, pointing to Ginny.
"Good! Here, help me add these shells, Draco," Pansy exclaimed, handing him a handful of pale pink shells the size of his fingernail. "I want to make it look like dragon scales."
"Did someone mention dragons?" Charlie asked, he and Hermione joining the group.
"We're putting scales on the castle," Luna explained, smiling brightly. "Where's Harry and Ron?"
"Running late," Hermione answered. "Said we could start without them."
Charlie and Neville had already started gathering what driftwood they could find, making a pyramid out of it.
"Incendio," Ginny said lazily, barely even moving her wand. "There, campfire's started, I'm going to go swimming, wanna come Draco?"
"In there? But-"
"Remember what I said," Ginny teased, shaking her arse slightly, walking towards the water. Draco quickly followed her.
"Guess he's promised to be on his best behavior too," Pansy joked, as she helped toss bits into the fire, watching the flames climbing.
"Ever made a bonfire before?"
"Nope, another muggle thing my family wasn't into," she laughed. "But I like it, the way the smoke moves, dancing."
"Dancing is fun, come dance with me," Luna said, grabbing Pansy's hand. They danced around the sand until Ron and Harry arrived, bringing the food with them.
"Got hot dogs, marshmallows, vegetables, and skewers to roast them on," Harry announced.
"I've got popcorn! There's this bucket thing you put it in, and then put it on the fire and it pops!" Ron yelled happily as everyone started cooking their food.
"I'm glad I came," Pansy whispered, leaning her head against Luna's shoulder, watching her vegetables start to char at the edges.
"I am too, see, they all love you," Luna stated, nodding to her friends. Pansy smiled at them, glad to have found a new family with Luna and everyone she loved.
