Chapter 16- Who is Sidious?
Sasha slowly came to after being unconscious for a while. She wasn't sure for how long, but it felt like an eternity had passed already since that message Maul had created for her Master. Her body felt heavy as she hung from the anti-gravity restraints. She could barely feel her toes, feet, arms and hands as they had gone numb at some point while she was out. Slowly peeling open her eyes, she looked around blearily at the space around her. She was alone in the cell which was good, but everything hurt. Glancing down at herself, she grimaced at the sight of all the lashes that were all across her body. Most had stopped bleeding, a few still were lightly dripping blood down onto the floor like a leaky pipe dripping water, some had left blood trails down her body, and the majority had stained her clothes with red.
Looking away, Sasha hung there in a daze for a while, trying to gather her bearings. And without the Force, that was easier said than done. But after a few minutes, she felt coherent enough to finally think straight. She had to guess that there was still time on her Master's deadline to come rescue her as she hadn't been saved yet. Or whatever plan they had might have failed and they could be captured by Maul too. Or worse.
Shaking the thought away, she immediately regretted that as her head throbbed with a horrible headache that suddenly made itself present. Sasha took a second to let her vision focus back into place and let her head settle before she tried thinking again. Once her head was clear this time, she started thinking of an escape plan. She knew she couldn't just stay here and let herself be killed. But she didn't have the Force to call upon to get her out of this situation.
Sasha looked around for anything she could possibly use as a means of escape. But there was nothing. No trinkets or tools she could use to try and escape. And even if she could use them, she couldn't summon them to her hands. She sighed and let her head fall forward causing her braid, which was mangled mess at the moment, fall over her shoulder. She glanced at it in her peripheral vision before doing a double take when she noticed a bobby-pin half in and half sticking out of her braid. It must have gotten caught on her braid from the side of her head when Maul was torturing her or some point before then, she wasn't sure. Either way it could work if she could just get it to her hands.
Thinking of possibilities, Sasha tried multiple methods to trying to get the bobby-pin. She tried to whip it up to her hands with minimal success and more pain for her headache. She tried to even bring her hands down to her to try and nab it, but it didn't work. But it did give her an idea. She flipped the braid onto her shoulder again with a turn of her head and faced the braid. She used her mouth to grab the Bobby-pin with her teeth and it slipped right out of her hair with succes. Using what arm strength she could summon which did pull her legs in the process, Sasha pulled herself up to her wrist resistrants and tried to reach for the pin. Her fingers were so close as she strained to grab it. But after a few stressing moments, her fingers managed to grab the pin.
"Finally," she breathed out as she lowered herself back down to give her arms a break.
Glancing back up, Sasha started to fiddle with the lock with the pin, trying to get them to come undone in some fashion. It took longer than she was liking, but after several intense and swear filled minutes, the binders making a clicking noise followed by them popping open. However, while she was successful in setting herself free, she forgot to account for the anti-gravity field to shut off and she collapsed to the ground. Yelping, Sasha landed with a pained gasp on the ground as her wounds screamed at her. She bit back tears as she tried to keep her composure for the moment.
After a few deep breaths, Sasha painstakingly pulled herself up into a sitting position. She then took the bobby-pin to unlock the binders around her ankles, freeing them. She sighed audibly as she felt relief and blood flow return to her hands and feet. Sasha rubbed at her wrists and ankles as she looked around for her boots, but they were nowhere to be seen. They weren't necessary and she could always get new ones. But now it was time to get out of here.
Sasha struggled to stand. Her legs shook with such intensity that she collapsed about five times before finally being able to keep her footing. She then spotted the electro staff still lined on the walls. She grabbed the staff and immediately leaned heavily against it. She could barely stand on her own, so the staff was a blessing.
Hobbling at a painfully slow pace, Sasha made her way to the cell door and it slid open upon her approach. Rookie mistake, she thought with a smirk as she entered the brig. Glancing around, she noticed that the brig was empty. That's odd. Shaking the thought away and not questioning it, Sasha started moving as fast as she was physically able towards the exit.
Sasha hobbled around the place quickly figuring out that they were on a base that was somewhere in a dense forest planet when she passed a viewport at one point. She tried to look for the hangar or a communications hub or something to help her escape this base. A door out would even work. One thing she did notice though as she staggered along was that the whole place was empty. It seemed abandoned based off the fact that no one was around. With not even a mouse droid. It was eerie, but she couldn't let it bother her.
As she continued her never-ending trek, she approached a room that had someone on the other side as she could them talking, Maul talking. Sasha made her way to press on as quietly as she could until she heard someone else talking too.
"How goes the plan, Lord Maul?" the sinister sounding voice asked.
Slowing to a stop, Sasha tried to listen to the conversation as the other voice caught her attention and sent a chill down her spine.
"I have the padawan and Kenobi has been informed," Maul explained. "Knowing his weakness for those close to him, he will come. I am expecting him soon. And if he doesn't arrive then I am planning to klll his padawan in front of the whole galaxy."
"That's a rather vicious endeavor," the man's voice said in more curiosity than disdain. "What do you plan to accomplish by showing her death publicly?"
"It will show that the Jedi are weak and that Kenobi is not the hero everyone praises him to be," Maul said. She could hear the villainous smile in his voice. "And help sway the war in your favor."
There was a pause. Sasha felt her heart pulse with uneasiness at the thought that she was going to be made a martyr in front of the whole galaxy. She swallowed a heavy lump that came to her throat and decided it was best to leave now.
"That's an excellent plan, Lord Maul," the man praised. "Keep me apprised."
"Yes, Lord Sidious," Maul said, sounding like he was bowing.
Sidious? Who the hell is Sidous? She shuddered at the thought of another Sith possibly being out there.
Anyway, that sounded like the end of their call and Sasha was still looming near the door. Quickly moving as quiet as possible, Sasha hurried down the hall. When she heard the doors open, she threw herself into a nearby alcove and clapped a hand to her mouth to silence her breathing as she was panting a little loudly due to her mending rib and injuries. She sat there in silence, trying to calm her breathing, as she waited to see if Maul would catch her out here or not. But she heard his bootsteps heading the opposite direction.
Risking a glance out from her cover, she spotted Maul's backside heading back in the direction of her cell. Kriff. He was going to get there in only a couple minutes and find that she was missing. She was screwed unless she could find a way out. Giving it another second, Sasha then emerged from cover, and with a new burst of energy, she was able to run despite her injured state in the opposite direction.
Sasha ran as far as she could and as fast as she could, clutching the electro staff in a death grip as she looked for a way out. Then the alarm blared. Sasha felt her heart stop for a moment as she realized she was busted now. Rounding a corner, she found the hangar as a large set of doors slid open revealing an empty hanger with its massive doors closed. She cursed under breath as she ran into the hangar and looked for a mode of transportation. The door then slid shut behind her and she activated the electro staff. She jabbed it into the nearest door control panel and sealed the doors shut to the hangar.
"That should keep him busy for a moment," she mumbled to herself, satisfied with her handy work. "Now for a way out."
Sasha looked around for main hangar door controls and found them on a nearby console. She hustled over to them and found the controls to activate the door. The massive doors grinded open to reveal the evening air outside the base. Even a crisp breeze blew in immediately sending a chill down her arms.
Then a red saber stabbed through the hangar door as the massive ones continued to open. Sasha gasped as she realized Maul had already found her. Cursing to herself, she charged forward towards the exit of the base as the massive doors finished sliding open.
There was just one small problem.
Sasha skidded to a stop at the edge of the hangar only to find that beyond the doors was a massive drop to a valley several dozen kilometers below. With the Force, Sasha could survive a jump from this height, but things would definitely break. Without it… she was as good as dead.
"Going somewhere?" Maul's voice hissed as the door fell away and he stomped into the hangar.
Sasha glanced at him then around in panic for anything she could use to survive or escape. But there was nothing. Her only option for survival was to jump, grab a cliff ledge somewhere down there, and wait for help to arrive. That was it. Or die trying. And the longer she thought about what to do the closer Maul got.
Screw it.
She gulped and then jumped.
But she didn't fall far as something caught her. She gasped as she realized that Maul caught her with the Force. Then his grip on her tightened and she winced with a groan as he lifted her up. Rotating around, Sasha found herself now face to face with Maul. He was snarling at her as she dangled high above her impending death.
"What exactly are you trying to do?" Maul asked almost accusingly.
"I'm trying to get away from here," Sasha answered truthfully. "Away from you." She growled as she tried to move from the Force grasp, but instead grimaced at her injuries.
"Until your Master gets here, I'm not letting you escape," Maul hissed. "Now it's time you return to your cell." He threw her over him and into the hangar.
Sasha cried out as she flew and yelped when she hit the decking for the hangar. Something broke as she landed. Make that a couple things as her leg twisted awkwardly under her, snapping in the process, and she felt another rib break. She rolled across the deck to a stop halfway across the room in immense pain. Everything hurt before, but now it was excruciating. It hurt to breathe. Her leg was mangled and twisted into an awkward angle. And she felt something warm and wet in a few of the spots where the lashes had been, meaning they had reopened upon impact. She tried not to burst into tears as the pain was just too much.
Maul stalked over and stopped before her. He knelt down and tilted his head to the side to get a good look at her face. "You have done this yourself," he growled under his breath. "I recommend that if you wish to see your friends again, don't try that again or I will end you. Do I make myself clear?"
Sasha looked up at him in a tearfilled glare. She then closed her eyes. There was no point in trying to fight him. She was in no state to even move at the moment and she was sure she was most likely going to pass out from her wounds any moment now if she didn't receive immediate medical care. She lowered her chin in defeat and nodded sadly. What else could she do in this state?
"Good," Maul huffed as he stood up.
He reached down and grabbed her by the arms. He then in one swift motion hauled her off the floor and onto his shoulder. Sasha cried out in agony, a few tears escaping in the process. Maul didn't seem to care for her state as he lugged her back to her cell. Sasha felt her vision and mind slowly fade to unconsciousness that the walk felt like it was five seconds, not longer than that. When they reached the cell, Maul rebounded her to the anti-gravity restraints. Sasha heaved out a cry of pain as he moved her arms and legs into position for the device to take effect and hold her in place.
Once she was hanging again, she watched in a blurry haze as Maul left the cell.
"Who's… Sidious?" Sasha managed to ask before he was gone.
Maul stopped in the doorway to the cell. Without looking at her, he answered. "Our worst nightmare." Then left her alone.
After that, all Sasha saw was darkness as she passed out.
