welcome to another new chapter of my fanfiction based upon the 'Vampire Knight' anime as it would be told from Zero's point of view, my 'Vampire Knight' fanfiction's thirty-eighth chapter. in this thirty-eighth chapter, Zero and Yuuki are joining Takuma Ichijo and the rest of the Night Class vampires for his birthday party, but they have actually gone onto the grounds of the Moon Dormitory on business, and not pleasure like Takuma has set. why did Takuma and Senri Shiki destroy that Level E vampire back in chapter thirty-six? and why do all the vampires think that it's OK to look down on and even destroy one of their own kind when none of them wanted to become a Level E at all in the first place? especially when considering that the blame belongs solely to the pureblood vampires they seem to admire so much?

this thirty-eighth chapter has one-thousand-eight-hundred-thirty-three words of storyline to it, give or take a comment from yours truly disguised as an author's note. this storyline with author's comments hidden from within its content doesn't include the description just above this headnote explaining the length of words in this chapter of the fanfiction, itself, this aforementioned headnote, right here, or even the disclaimer which makes up the paragraph following said headnote. yes, I'm aware of the disclaimer in this thirty-eighth chapter having the exact same words as the disclaimers from the previous five chapters to it. I've been kinda tapped out for both time to update my fanfictions and for my fanfictions' inspiration. so, go ahead and sue me.

disclamation: I don't own 'Vampire Knight' in any way, shape, or form, be it the anime or the manga. Matsuri Hino owns the rights to the manga while the cast and crew for the anime are the people from Viz Media. if I had owned even one bit of even the anime, I so wouldn't have let it draw to a conclusion on such a note as what it had. I would've continued it a lot further into the manga and ended it the right way. I really wish that Viz Media had ended the anime the right way, or would at least make a reboot of the anime, like FUNimation had with 'Fruits Basket' when they discovered that it had come out with a sequel manga series.

As my Yuuki and I walked further into the lair of the night class students, we only got deeper and deeper into the place where the true face of the vampire lived. We had even passed by Senri Shiki, Rima Touya and Ruka Souen on our way for my Yuuki to discuss that Level E from that day with Takuma.

Senri Shiki: Look at that. They came.

Rima Touya: But, what for?

Ruka Souen: Who knows.

Another vampire took out three whole knives as though he were expecting to fight us. His friend spoke up against it.

Night class vampire: Put that away.

Hanabusa and Akatsuki escorted the two of us further into the center of the Moon Dorm. My Yuuki suddenly grew nervous.

Akatsuki Kain: This way.

My Yuuki just obeyed Akatsuki's order, and we both followed him and Hanabusa further down the path. When we finally made it to where Takuma actually was, however, my Yuuki just gave him a look of uncertainty, and it was for good reason, too. There happened to be a buffet spread out and a huge, four-layered cake upon a table from behind Takuma. That was not the only thing that shocked her. He was also completely bright and cheery even though we were all in a place filled with vampires during the night and even wore a cheeky smile upon his face.

Takuma Ichijo: Yuuki and Zero, please, make yourselves at home. I'm throwing a little party tonight for my birthday. Please, enjoy yourselves.

Remember when I said that I did not quite trust Takuma Ichijo? Ye-ah! The kind of behavior he was displaying at that time was my main reason for finding him a little weird, even for a vampire. I did not quite trust the Moon Dorm's vice president because he pretty behaved far too humanly for a vampire. I think that he might have been a bit fewer generations removed from his own humanity than the rest of the night class was.

Luckily, my Yuuki managed to get things back on track for her to find out just what had happened that day.

Yuuki Cross: We came here on important business. I want to know more about what happened today.

Takuma Ichijo: Oh.

'Oh'? That was all Takuma had to say for trying to get us off the topic my Yuuki wanted so much to discuss with him? Sometimes, I could have sworn that Takuma Ichijo was just not even thinking. Of course, it was not as though the rest of the vampires in the night class had much semblance of free will when it came to Kaname Kuuran's word, either.

Yuuki Cross: I wanna know why you thought it was OK to destroy that Level E. I mean, he's a vampire just like you are.

That was when Hanabusa came up from behind my Yuuki to rub their superiority complexes over every and all Level E vampires in the blood lusting faces of every last one of them.

And to think, the night class thought that I was arrogant just for being in a foul mood when Hanabusa challenged me with Ruka, Senri, Rima and Akatsuki backing him up just because I gave my Yuuki's Valentine's chocolates to that Kaname Kuuran. The night class students were the very essence of self-obsession, particularly pureblood vampires like that sinning Kaname Kuuran.

It still killed me inside that my little Yuuki was still completely unaware that her beloved Kaname Kuuran was the same kind of vampire as Shizuka Hio, the vampire who had butchered my family and left me as the sole survivor of her attack the night that Master had rescued me and brought me to Headmaster Kaien Cross's house.

I guess that it could have gone a lot worse for me that night because it was also the night I met my Yuuki for the first time. I suppose that when my precious little Yuuki had first begun to show me her kindness every step of the way in our friendship, it was the hand of fate finally showing me some mercy. Falling in love with my dear Yuuki may have just been an accident at first glance, but I guess that it just meant that, in a way, I had actually owed even my friendship with my dearest Yuuki, regrettably to_ the vampires.

Of course, owing my friendship with Yuuki to their kind did not instantly mean, however, that I could easily put up with vampires for any reason whatsoever or that I would ever learn to even tolerate them, never mind liking them. At least, my Yuuki spoke out against the night class for vampires who were once human… like me. I did not deserve her kindness or even her friendship, but Yuuki, my precious little Yuuki, still gave it to me anyway.

Hanabusa Aido: Actually, we're not like them, at all.

Yuuki just gasped in confused indignation at exactly what Hanabusa had told her about the Level E vampires.

Takuma Ichijo: Yuuki, you must understand that the society of vampires is ruled entirely by a few purebloods and only a handful of aristocrats. Every student in the night class is at least an aristocrat or higher.

Then, Takuma handed Yuuki a glass of what looked to be some kind of lemonade or something before continuing with his 'rousing' speech. He handed me a glass that looked as though it were filled with blood tablet mixings.

Takuma Ichijo (continued): Below us are the average vampires and in the ranks below them are the vampires who were once human.

To that, I could not help but feel singled out by everyone in the Night Class even Takuma, as surprising as it would sound to anyone who did not know enough about him to see the real Takuma Ichijo.

That was just around when I had heard a voice speak up from behind my dear Yuuki. It was definitely male.

Male voice: And then, there are those vampires who don't even make the rankings and they're known as Level E.

My Yuuki turned around to face the owner of the voice to find that it was none other than Senri Shiki. So much for relating to him the most out of the Night Class vampires.

Takuma Ichijo: Due to a number of reasons, vampires who began their lives as humans will slowly lose their sanity, falling into Level E. The 'E' standing for the end; complete degeneration and destruction.

Hanabusa then said something so insensitive and so uncaring that anyone would wonder just how and why he could have ever possibly achieved the nickname of 'Idol', at all.

A/N: I know I wondered that, myself, when I heard what he said about it.

Hanabusa Aido: We are in no way similar to vampires who were originally human. Please, don't lump us together again.

A/N: and why shouldn't we? the vampires deserve to all be lumped together in the first place. I hope a witch comes to their door and changes their faces and turns them all as ugly on the outside as they all clearly are on the inside.

That was when Yuuki, my Yuuki, stood up for vampires of my breed in a way even I never thought was possible.

Yuuki Cross: Why do you have to look down on them? None of them wanted to become a Level E in the first place.

A/N: couldn't have said it better, myself. no-good, lying, cheating, backstabbing scumbags. manipulative devil spawns of leeches in human form.

Yuuki Cross (continued): It was your kind that made the way_

My Yuuki would have continued on with her ranting in the name of defending my status as a vampire were it not for Takuma interrupting her.

Takuma Ichijo: Exactly right.

A/N: not exactly right. not exactly right!

Takuma Ichijo (continued): And that's why it is our duty to keep an eye on them.

A/N: your duty? please, tell me you're kidding me with that. you're only in it for the thrill of the hunt. if you worry so much about them, skip out on the middlemen and go straight for the masterminds of the whole plot. oh, that's right. you can't! because the masterminds of the whole plot are the very same pureblood vampires who you all make a practice of worshipping like your personal deities. you all think you're so special, but you're not anywhere near as smart as you think you are. think on your own every once in a while, why don't you? it'd help with your issues of mindless obedience towards the purebloods, you know.

Takuma Ichijo (continued): Before they're so consumed by their thirst for blood, they grab any human they can find.

It was then that a voice suddenly began talking to the two of us from just beyond the table which held Takuma's birthday spread and next to a sofa so ironically placed amongst a couple of candelabras. It was a male voice.

Male voice: They were following my orders.

My Yuuki and I looked towards the source of the voice which had told the two of us what happened with that Level E that day. It was none other than my Yuuki's own beloved Kaname Kuuran. His servant, Seiren May, was standing just a few feet away from Kaname Kuuran, ready to strike anyone who wished to do her master harm.

Kaname Kuuran: I did it. I'm the one who told Takuma and Senri to hunt down the Level E today.

While I simply settled on just looking that Kaname Kuuran firmly in the eyes, my Yuuki actually tried to talk to him.

Yuuki Cross: It was you, Kaname?

Then, that Kaname Kuuran suddenly began speaking back at my Yuuki.

Kaname Kuuran: Yuuki… I'm surprised you would come to such a dangerous place simply 'cuz Takuma asked you to.

Of course, my Yuuki still stood by her reasons for ever having even tried to go to the Moon Dormitory by herself just before I had joined her. I could see that she was not going to back down that Kaname Kuuran at the time.

Yuuki Cross: I wanted to find out for myself.

If only my Yuuki had always been that firm with even Kaname Kuuran.

Then, that Kaname Kuuran then held his fingers to his bangs in a surprising frustration towards my Yuuki insisting on wanting to find out for herself and sighed in even more frustration.

A/N: I don't know why Kaname's so frustrated with Yuuki being there, especially when all she wanted was to hear Takuma's reasons for being there at all from his own lips. and technically speaking, she's already past being old enough to wonder about those kinds of things.
