Saiaku Mono

Chapter 3: Back to Bari Pt 1

In the year 2050, people started to develop strange abilities. 4 generations into the future, they are known mostly as a blessing, but in 2050, it is only the opposite. Those who gain these "quirks" are treated with nothing but discrimination and hate. In the United States, quirk use of any kind is treated with automatic jailing, and if they're unlucky, shipped to a testing facility for experimentation. This is the story of how a group of quirked people rose up, overthrew the president, and became the heroes that changed the world. The story of Saiaku Mono!

Name:Kari Age:15 Gender:Female Quirk:Leech palms

Through the circular leech mouths on her hands, she can absorb energy from the living things she places them on. She can control whether or not that energy goes to speed, strength, both, or if she just wants to store it for safekeeping. She can also sense a person's energy by using her mouths to look for energy, but the farther away they are the harder it is to sense them, so she usually goes after powerful energy signatures. She can use her leech tongue like a frog can, and can stretch it out to about 4 meters. Because of its strength she can also use it to grapple(swing like spider-man). She has an upbeat attitude and rarely cares what other people think and also rarely thinks things through along with believing she's in the right most of the time, though she can be shown that her ideas are bad if the person either puts a lot of effort into showing her that, or she's attached to them, however she's quite self conscious of her quirk, and becomes less outgoing to a person once they see it, which is why she wears gloves, along with not wanting to absorb the energy of any living thing she touches. If the person stays with her despite knowing of her quirk, she goes back to normal and becomes very attached to them. To use her quirk to its maximum effect, she taught herself hand to hand combat.

Name:Neran Age:16 Gender:Male Quirk:Crystals

He can produce crystals from body, and through training he can produce them so fast he propels him self forwards. He most commonly creates poles from his hands and feet to properly combat foes(similar to Gajeel from Fairy Tail). To produce crystalline structures such as the spherical he must clap his hands together and slam them down to create them in the area around them. His crystals and eyes change color depending on his mood. Similar emotions are grouped into one color. Happy is pink, red is annoyed and angry, purple is embarrassed. He wears shades to hide emotion but when he's around friends he puts them away. He considers Kari an ally because they'll be working together and a friend in the near future, so he puts his shades away. He can make his structures take on different colors with some time and effort and make them disappear into a dust cloud with the snap of his fingers. Kari's quirk can easily destroy them because they're made from his energy. Because they're made from his energy, he and the crystals are linked and he feels the damage they take, this drives him to be quick to avoid battle at times. After living in the forest alone for 6 months, he's socially awkward, which is one of the reasons he disappeared when people saw him in the past.

Neran hated getting wet, and this was something he knew very, very well. Whether it was swimming, canoeing, water gun fight, or even something as simple as getting spritized by a water sprinkler, he hated getting wet. So you can imagine his feelings when he got caught in the rain while he was running for shelter with his new friend, a travel person. They had found a safe haven in a cave near the forest, and had been there for three days, waiting for the rain to stop. He considered himself lucky that nothing in the small backpack he had was drenched, he wouldn't have been able to start a fire otherwise. For both them, and boiling water to make it palpable. For food they just had like an apple per meal, with a tree being right near a cave, it was their only option without getting drenched. They had just finished a meal and were just sitting on opposing ends in the cave, boredom once again setting in.

"So why was your bag invisible?" Kari asked as they both sat near the fire on opposing ends.

"To keep others from stealing it, why else?"

"Okay, then why did it turn visible once it started raining?"

"Ah, you see my crystals, not unlike a sponge, soak up a limited amount of water, the limit in question increasing with size, and gain weight as they do. Because of this, I can't make any crystals underwater."

"Oh?"

"Yes, I'd say a cup equals about 10 pounds, and since I used my crystals to cloak my backpack, I say it would've weighed around a hundred pounds, give or take 10, considering the amount used. Which is why I chose to decloak it, given it only would've served to slow me down."

"Ahhh, that makes sense."

"..."

"…."

"…."

"So, have you been naked this entire time?"

Kari's question, while simple in thought, would have caused him to spit out any water he had in his mouth. Instead, however, his heart stopped for 2 whole seconds.

"WHAT THE F*CK KINDA QUESTION IS THAT!?"

"Well, since that sleeve of yours was absorbed when I reached out to you in desperation, I can only assume it was made of crystals, and since crystals aren't technically clothes so… I mean, no judgement here if you do.I just think since we're gonna be working together we shouldn't have this many secrets between each other, though I do wonder why the coat and your left arm didn't get heavier with e rainthem, unless you lied to me that is." Her tone went from relaxed and non-acussing to suspicious in practically and instant.

"Okay, before anything else happens, I'm wearing underwear, non-crystal, cloth underwear, so I am no way naked! Is that clear?" He said getting up in her face with more speed than he had shown even when in battle.

"Jesus! You're like a bobcat or something, yes, fine, you're not naked!"

"Good, now as for the coat, it's made of a special crystal I was able to make that doesn't get

super heavy when wet."

"Then why didn't you just use that on your backpack?"

He raised his finger to speak but all that came out was silence.

"You didn't think to do that, did you?"

"I just- I mean- 'Ugh'"

"I'm gonna take a wild guess and say…." She leaned in and whispered "I'm right."

"... yeah, pretty much. That and I figured I wouldn't want to get soaked in the rain or have my coat weighing me down."

"Excuses excuses. If we're going to become the heroes that change the way people view the quirked , the first thing that needs work is your thought process."

'Ahem' Neran stood up and looked down at her while pointing a finger at her "My thought process? Before me your plan was to find people you know nothing about, break into their homes should they have any, and demand they join the group of some random girl for a plan that won't work in any way possible!"

"Hey I never said my plan was perfect!"

"You didn't need to, your hubris said it for you."

" Said the guy dumb enough to think the military wouldn't send more people after him when he beat up their men."

"I was only in that mess because of you!"

"My fault? This is part of the argument where I stand up!" She said while doing the aforementioned action

"You mean the part where you're losing? Badly?"

"If you had just joined my group when I asked, we wouldn't have been put in a position where we had to fight!"

"Oh what a great idea! I'll join the group of the same girl who punched me in the stomach to wake me up, after meeting me for the first time!"

"You were taking forever to wake up so it was either that or wait outside with the apples you left outside!"

"Well that would've been the polite thing to- wait, did you say apples?

"Yeah, the apple cores you left outside your fake house, which was modeled after the nineties for some reason. Ya know, why did y-".

"I never left apples outside."

"...What?"

"I only never left apples outside, though I did encounter many wonderful apple trees, which I took in moderation."

"I didn't think apples grew in that forest."

"Yeah I was surprised as you, and they were so well grown, like the ones you'd find in a store."

"Really? It almost sounds like-" Her eyes suddenly opened wide along with Neran's.

"SOMEBODY GREW THEM THEMSELVES!" They said in conjunction.

"Jinx!"

"Double jinx!"

"Triple jinx"

"Quadruple jinx!"

After a heated bout of trying to jinx the other, they both collapsed on the floor out of breath. Who knew he competed in the game of jinx as heavily as she did?

'Pant''Pant''Pant'

It was even enough so that the author wrote three 'Pants'!

"Wow...you're...really active...when you want to be...aren't you?" She asked between pants.

"Yeah…one of my...better qualities." He replied.

"So you were living there for months, right?"

"Yeah, 11 last I checked."

"So how did you not notice there was another person living there?"

"... Okay to be fair I was rarely even awake when I lived there, much less outside the house."

"What do you mean 'rarely awake'?"

"I mean I would knock myself out, wake up, eat enough food to last me till the next meal, then repeat the steps day after day, simple as that."

"..."

"... Why are you looking at me with such pity?"

"No reason." She said quickly rolling to the other side in an attempt to avoid his gaze.

"Okaaaaaaaay?"

"Anyway, it sure was nice for the one who grew those apples to leave so many at your house."

"Yeah, even though they left the majority around my house instead of at the doorstep."

"They must have not wanted to be noticed by you."

"Probably, I should head back to Bari forest eventually to thank them."

"Wait a second" she sat up "we left because it was going to be swarmed with military goons ,right?

"Yes, yes we did."

"So, how is whoever lives there gonna know to get out?"

Nearan's eyes shot open.

"Crap."

..….

The sound of helicopter blades was rich in the air. The sight of men weaving in and out through the trees was as plain as day. Trucks were rolling in with men coming out of them as they stopped.

"Keep searching, men! Don't stop until every inch of this place has been turned over!" Yelled Brigadier General Vise as he stood from his post surrounded by a group of tents posted by the militia. At Bari forest, three days after the incident, the military had this place surrounded.

As Neran and Kari looked at this from a faraway hill with binoculars made by Nerans power, which though faulty, still told them one thing.

"Welp, whoever's there is captured, our job here is done, let's head back to the cave." Neran said nonchalantly, turning around to head back.

"Woah, woah woah. If they're still searching for something they haven't found anything yet!" She said, pulling his coat."Besides, it's kinda our fault they've surrounded the forest in the first place."

'Cough' "Your fault!" 'Cough'

"Shut it!" She slammed him down to the ground with him facing upwards."We are going to that forest, got that?" She said with a stern look on her face.

"Yes, oh great captain."

"What was that?" She whipped around with the fury that made Neran freeze right there on the ground.

"Nothing! Nothing." He said rapidly in repetition, waving his hands in front of his face.

"Good!" She turned around and thought 'Huh, acting angry does work with stubborn people, who knew?'

"So, I might actually have a plan to get into the forest." Neran said, groaning while getting up.

"Really, do tell."

3 days earlier…

A purple haired woman with her hair curling into a flat, disk shaped form on the right side of her head, where a bun would usually be. She was about 7 feet tall, with skin a lovely peach shades color. Her eyes were a stone cold blue. She was sitting at the desk of a man who was shrouded in shadows(Literally because as in anime, the face of a person will be just a blank slate until their intro).

"You want me to head to Bari forest? Why?" She inquired with a spanish accent and an uninterested look on her face as she looked to the side."A mission as inconsequential as this is more than a 1000 times beneath my talents."

"Kari has been spotted there. You are to bring her back." The man said instantly and without any emotion.

"…Is that so?"

"Yes indeed it is, however if you would like me to give this mission over to one of the others I'd be more than able-"

"I'll go, the others would just screw everything up." She said still looking the same, but sounding a tad more interested.

"Glad you're up to it. Also, she was last spotted with a boy, what do you think should happen to him?"

"A boy you say?" The air around her grew tense and the tension became so fragile that only those equal or greater to her power could even breathe without breaking down in fear. "He will be inlaid upon the earth and wiped from existence."

"That's what I like to hear, that's what I like to hear." A sinister grin formed on his face as the scene faded from memory…

Present time

The woman from before looked down from a hill overlooking the forest.

"Those fools are gonna scare Kari away, and then…" the woman said, looking remorseful. "The others will know I have failed a mission, and idiots as weak as those cannot be allowed to look down on me for even a second." Her gaze quickly turned violent as the area around her sank to the forest level.

"I should be careful not to let my temper get the best of me." She said while admiring the view around her as a bird landing on her finger, causing the woman to smile. "Lest I level everything within a 10 kilometer radius." Her tone quickly turned ominous as the bird plummeted to the ground, dying on impact.

"Whoops, better not touch anything either, though it was that bird's fault for daring to land on my skin." Her tone was as uninterested as before." Except of course, for that boy Kari was with."

Somewhere outside the universe...

Okay, this might be interesting. A woman with a quirk has been ordered by who knows who, to take the two kids. And she easily flattened the area around her? This is gonna be awesome!
