The Heroic God Slayer
Chapter 7
This will be a bit more exposition-based chapter considering my OC Campione is going to be schooling Izuku more on what it means to be a King and God Slayer. You'll also find out why the Gods and a few of the God Slayers disapprove or dislike anything involving quirks. So on with the show.
(Izuku POV)
I can't get everyone here mixed up in a fight with this maniac. I knew he was going to be tough, but I wasn't expecting anything quite like this. There's no way Ratatoskr could have given him the abilities that would do the damage that some of the teachers have been afflicted with.
"Guck, ease up a bit will you!" Midnight says while still trapped under Master Jonathan's boot. She's struggling to keep the….. I'm not sure what it is but it looks like a string of magatama. How does that make a whip? And does he have other weapons? Are they part of his authorities or are they something else entirely? "Kid you're rambling. I don't mind explaining a few things, but you need to learn a few other details first. Namely that you don't keep a King waiting."
Oops…. guess I said that all out loud. I gulp before the oldest among we Campione lifts his left hand up and makes a swiping movement with his hand. And two stone pillars and a couple of trees are sliced in two. No ripping, no breaking. Just a clean slice. "While I'd like to host you in some way….. my brother? I don't technically posses a place we can do that." "Is that so well then." He says while closing his eyes. And then I can feel the magic coming from him rising. I signal to Xeimei to get everyone back while I try to hold him off.
But then a new voice rings out. "HEY! I thought you said you would hold back!" The one saying this is a young, dark-skinned man wearing turquoise and silver jewelry. He is flying in with some large eagle wings coming from his back. Is that his quirk? Or is it… nope stop. I'm about to start another mumble spree. And as he lands, I see it isn't a quirk but magic. Right as he lands the wings dissipate and seem to return to a symbol on his necklace.
"That was shamanistic based magic. But it seems like he mixed it with the silver smithing of his people your majesty. I think I know who that is," Xeimei says while the oldest king is distracted by this new face. She explained that the man was Sam Etcitty, a top-ranking mage with the Ancestral Lands Historic Society. It was a mage organization that Master Jonathan set up after a magical disaster in the region. And Etcitty-san was a liaison for that group with the resident Campione.
After Etcitty-san and the first finish talking, he comes up to speak to us. "I do apologize for what has transpired here Lord Midoriya. But as you might understand Campione are difficult. Especially one as old as he is." "I can hear you!" This gets a few chuckles from myself, and the others gathered. At least that helps ease off the tension. When a few robots show up and go to the injured teachers, I'm sure that Master Jonathan is going to stop them.
But he doesn't move. In face for Vlad and Cementos he seems to create a pair of vortexes in his hand, and then aid the robots in loading up the two heavier heroes. I just can't figure this man out. Nezu then speaks up by saying, "I still don't know who you are. But I will thank you for allowing us to move the injured. Let alone aiding them. Perhaps we could take this somewhere else to discuss. My office for example."
Master Jonathan nods before saying, "the kid should have been the one to say that but he's new. He'll learn. And now allow me." The first raises his left hand again snaps his fingers. All of the sudden a magic circle appears below all of our feet. And in an instant, we are teleported to the principal's office. "That should do. Oh, nice couches. I'll have a seat and we can discuss matters boy."
The man was already in front of a couch, and he sits down without letting off of Midnight's back. Is this some sort of play or something for him or is he just wanting to keep his hostage close? I can't tell. But I take a seat as well and say, "where do we start?"
(No POV)
"Well let's start with the obvious. You good with letting the rest of these people know more about yourself and the world you are a part of?" Samson asks while the whole of class 1-A and a few from 1-B are picking themselves up off the ground. Mina points out though that, "some of us got an up-close view of that world sir. Believe me." She feels part of her back where Momotaro had cut her, and a scar had formed.
The old Campione nods before saying, "I see. Momotaro went after you, eh? Not surprising given your appearance." While a few shout out about the man's blatant discrimination from their standpoint, some like Ida, Todoroki and Kendo note what he said. "Wait Momotaro? The mythical hero? That's just a story, isn't it?" Kendo questions.
Izuku who was sitting next to Xeimei shakes his head before saying, "it is very much not a story. He was on a rampage recently. And was behind the murders of multiple people in Okayama." This shocks everyone in the room. Nezu most of all. Until his prodigious mind starts to put a few more of the pieces together. He then starts laughing while facepalming. "Of course! That is why we could never find a true culprit! If the entity involved was a deity or figure of myth, then they would just disappear into myth right after. No trail no pattern other than most victims had horns of some kind" Izuku nods before saying he had to deal with the Rogue Hero God from Okayama.
He then nods to Xeimei, who (alongside Etcitty) creates a magic field that helps to explain the truth of the world of magic and the great (though often destructive) heroes who protect the people from the terrors. At seeing all of this, all of the people from UA are stunned beyond words. Even Midnight had stopped her struggling from under Jonathan because of how shocked she was.
"So….. you sir are a king of the world because you were crazy enough to kill a god?" Ida asks while trying to compile all of what he had seen. Jonathan snorts before agreeing to the point, though saying the young man should be careful how he phrases things. "Despite how I've been acting, I'm usually a more passive tyrant. And yes, you should get used to that factor kid. It's part of who we are," the later statement is directed at Izuku who seems uncomfortable with calling himself a tyrant.
"That doesn't seem like a heroic thing or mentality Jonathan." "Oh it generally isn't. But we do have a habit of going overboard. Although I only needed to use one of my authorities to defeat most of the UA staff as it were," Jonathan says nonchalantly. This shocks everyone again and Midnight feels even lower than she already is. 'He didn't even have to put out much and he stomped us all like it was nothing! Just how powerful is this maniac?!' She thinks to herself.
Izuku coughs before asking which authority it was he used. Jonathan smirks before saying, "tit for tat boy. You want to know about one of mine, you have to tell me about one of yours." Xeimei tries to signal Izuku to stop, but the youngest king barrels on and explains his Herakles authority. Jonathan nods before saying, "its kinda fitting on the authority I used to defeat them. It was the first god I slayed. The goddess Amaterasu. From her I gained authority over 14 different aspects and gods of nature from Japan."
At hearing that, all those in attendance were shocked and terrified. This man had defeated one of the mother goddesses of their homeland and possessed power over nature itself. Izuku shook himself out his stupor first before saying, "yes I can see how that would help you defeat most of the teachers. But it doesn't explain the weapons those don't seem to be an authority." Jonathan's eyes widen, and then he smiles before laughing out loud.
When he finished laughing, he says to Izuku, "good catch boy. This one I don't mind not having something of equal exchange for. Since you know about Ratatoskr, you know I can travel to multitudes of realms. Some of these include a mythical version of Japan simply called Nipon. Various demons and monsters roam there, and I fought enough of them that I gained a handful of special weapons from there. All based on the regalia of Japan." A few things amaze the spectators of this discussion of King. First that Jonathan was being more flexible and fairer with Izuku than they expected. And second, that he could not only travel to mythic lands but could gain weapons from those regions as well.
'No way I can beat him with just that little understanding of what I can do. I still don't even know how to use the authority I got from Momotaro.' Izuku thinks to himself. He then looks down again and sees Midnight trying to get out from under Jonathan's feet. "Um any chance you'd be more willing to let my teacher go now?" Izuku asks his elder.
At first the man looks confused, until he looks down and his eyes widen. "Oh right. Forgot she was down there. My bad." Jonathan then lets go of the grip on the magatama string and lifts his feet up. The string goes slack, and Midnight can breathe freely again. She stands up coughing a bit before trying to intimidate Jonathan. But the man is not amused, and while Izuku is trying to shut her up, Jonathan decides to do it instead.
He rapidly stands and grabs her face and neck under her chin with one hand. He then lifts her up before saying, "don't push your luck. I was just being polite because he asked. Don't think that means you can pull that crap with me. GOT IT?!" Midnight is still defiant but when she hears Nezu and Izuku telling her to stand down, as well as the tightening grip of the man in front of her, she is willing to comply.
Jonathan then drops the woman before taking a seat. He then smirks at Izuku saying, "you gotta learn to be a bit more forceful kid. You do have the right to rule due to your position. That includes ordering them around." Izuku looks confused at what the man said and asks what he means. Jonathan hums a bit before gaining a slightly sinister smirk. He then looks to a few and asks their names. After getting four of them he starts to demonstrate what he means to Izuku.
"Kirishima, harden your head up and start smashing it into the wall." While most think there is no way the red head will do this, he invariably does and he shouts that he can't stop. Jonathan's smirk grows wider, while Sam is just facepalming. "What are you doing?!" Izuku shouts. The first just says demonstrating what they as God Slayers have the authority to do. He then tells Sato to grab both Ochaco and Tsuyu and start squeezing them. He then orders Midnight, or Kayama Nemuri to get on all fours and walk around.
For the final nail to push Izuku though, he orders Momo to strip down. She starts to do so, crying a bit as she is doing it. None of the rest can stop her and Mineta is looking on in anticipation. But he doesn't notice the silent blast of air that knocks him out. Izuku then draws his glaive and threatens Jonathan. The man though is nonplussed and tells him he won't go back on what he ordered.
Izuku starts panicking more, trying to think of a way to help everyone. "Did you forget you have the same authority?" Jonathan says while resting his feet on Midnight again. In his mind though, the old Campione is saying, 'figure it out kid. I can't leave things to you if you don't take advantage of everything at your disposal.' Izuku panics for a few more seconds before shouting, "everyone stop! Disregard what he had ordered!" Upon hearing that, Kirishima's head softens, Sato lets go of the girls and backs away, Midnight rolls away from the madman, and Momo finally stops, but she is down to her underwear.
As she starts crying more, Izuku jumps over to her and puts his jacket on the girl. He then checks the others to see if they are alright. "Good. You not only live up to your archetype but you're finally willing to use whatever you can to get the job done." Izuku looks back and sees the serious face of Jonathan as he is sitting there. Izuku looks around as says, "this was all a test!?" The first nods before explaining that he felt he needed to push Izuku. To see if he was willing to use whatever he could what needed to be stopped. "And you passed."
Izuku is furious at the old Campione, but at the same time he can see a similarity to what the teachers at UA strive for. Pushing past what they may limit themselves to. With the others though, a few start to wonder if any quirk could hope to match up or counter much of what Izuku or Jonathan were capable of. "This guy beat All Might with one hit! If he can do that what chance do, we have?" Kaminari asked in a panicked voice. Mineta who had recovered from the hit earlier stands up and questions if a combination of quirks could do the job. "You shouldn't be thinking those silly little powers are the be all end all. That'll just leave you open to getting crushed." Jonathan says with an angry look on his face. One that makes Kaminari and Mineta wet themselves.
"Haaaa….. I really should have stopped that virus from being released. It's been nothing but a pain in my ass since I missed that one," Jonathan says while rubbing his face. This makes Izuku perk up more and he asks a question that had been bothering him since his fight with Momotaro. "Are quirks really a natural evolution?" While his classmate are quick to look at him funny and try to say "of course they are" the man in front of him has a different perspective.
"Of course they're not. I should know. I'm from the era before quirks. And I know about the virus related to it." This shocks everyone in the room save one. Most are stunned by this man who looks to be in his 30s saying he was from the pre-quirk era. Nezu though steps up and says, "is that the truth? Are quirks really just manmade?" "Yep. Some idiots wanted to play god and they made a virus to rapidly mutate people at the genetic level. I think it was made in China with a few scientists from the US aiding them. I killed most of them as I was the only king at the time and felt like I had to stop it." Jonathan says while taking out a hip flask and drinking from it.
He then explains that he had missed one scientist and a lower quality version of the virus they were hoping to release. And when they did release the virus, the mutations involved were slow changes. "What they wanted was to rapidly mutate humans and animals into possible living weapons. Or even superpowered humans to fight for them. Instead, they just released a slow growing one that is turning everyone of you into mindless monsters," the first Campione says nonchalantly.
At hearing all of this the students are break down in various ways. Tokoyami and Mina look in the mirror or at their skin and start to wonder what they could have looked like. 'And maybe I wouldn't have been attacked if it wasn't for my quirk or the changes from my parents quirks,' Mina thinks to herself as she begins to cry. Some of the simpler students can't even process what they have learned and just sit down and take some breaths. Others like Momo, Ida, Todoroki, and Nezu try to see some lie in what the man in front of them said. But they see nothing that would tell them that.
Izuku though knows for a fact that he isn't lying. "Momotaro said it himself. That there was something just wrong about humanity now. And that quirks themselves were wrong. Its why he was targeting quirked people. And only a quirkless child was spared from his rampage. Because he… they…. the gods don't see quirks as something that should exist. They were manmade superpowers so some could feel like gods. And that is a taboo itself." Jonathan nods before bringing up an example with magic.
He asks Sam to show them, and the Ancestral mage creates an image in the air. The image is of a beautiful African woman wearing Akan jewelry and dress styles. "This is the third Campione Ahnika Owusu. And I will tell you she is the most tyrannical of the kings that exist now. Trust me, what I've done today is childs play compared to what she has done to others. But that isn't important. You see she became a Campione about….. 50 or 60 years ago. And this was what she looked like before." With a shift, the woman is replaced by a snakelike image. Her head appears to be similar to a python but not as long. "This is what she looked like before she became a Campione."
All of the audience's eyes widen at the implication and they ask how it is possible. "It's one of the benefits of becoming a God Slayer. Our bodies are restored to peak health and….. proper state of being. I guess remove a quirk or quirked mutations is part of that." Izuku says somberly. Jonathan nods before stating his next piece. "Look I know I've been an ass today, but I was trying to get you to be more willing to take what you are seriously. If you don't people could die."
"I think I understand but that doesn't mean I have to like it." "You don't have to like it. We'll be sticking around for a few days. I want to work with you on what you can do. I saw that look earlier. You don't know how to use your newest authority do you?" Jonathan says with a smile. Etcitty though is facepalming and asking, "why did you not run any of this by me when we were on the plane gramps!?" At hearing that everyone's eyes bug out more and look between the two men. Jonathan just shrugs before saying, "I only thought of it as I was walking up to the school. Sorry. Also, to the rest of you; yes he is my great grandson. Campione are basically immortal. And he's not my only descendent. Some are even on different continents."
All of the UA folks are just stunned by how nonchalant this supposed king of the world was with everything. Though a few of the girls, (Ochaco, Momo, Mina, and Reiko with Xeimei denying what she feels) think this could be a way for them to get close to Izuku. Izuku just sighs before asking a favor of the oldest king. "Before I forget could you please bring back All Might. People might be freaking out after you tossed him wildly into the air." "Huh? Oh! Right forgot about that. Hang on."
Jonathan snaps his fingers again and teleports out of the room. He returns a minute later with All Might. Although the number one hero is out cold. "Yeah he still thought I was an enemy, especially since he had been getting healed at a village in the realm I sent him to. So he attacked and I was forced to knock him out." Sam stands up shaking his head and asking, "where did you even send him to?" "Alfheim. Seems a few of the elf ladies there were quite interested in the man." At hearing that all, you would think the students would freak out. But nope. "I think I've become numb to all the insane things he says after everything that has happened today." Shoji says with a blue shadow over his eyes. The rest all nod, as Nezu asks them to return to their classes.
The principal then calls for a stretcher to take All Might to the infirmary. Before Jonathan and Sam leave though the rodent like principal has a question for the two. "With your power you could easily have killed as many people with quirks as possible. In many ways you could put an end to most threats from villains around the world. Why do you stay out of the way with this?" Jonathan just sighs before saying, "back in the day I was tempted to do just that. Especially after meeting a fool of a boy who called himself a demon king because he had stolen multitudes of quirks. He messed with something I took a personal interest in protecting, so I demolished him and his subordinates. After I had left him with a scar he'll never recover from and he had fainted, his brother stopped me from going further."
Jonathan went on to explain that the man had promised to find and make a way towards defeating his brother. "He said that 'I have a duty to stop his madness. Please let me.' At first, I was tempted to just brush him off. But something in that boy's eyes made me think otherwise. So I let it be and chose to stay out of most matters involving quirks. Most gods semi manifest as natural disasters anyway. Better I try to deal with that." Nezu is again amazed at what this Campione had described. A battle with the greatest evil of the quirked era and he had treated it like it was little more that child's play. Nezu thanked the king for answering his question and the two Americans left for the day.
"What will happen next I wonder. In this strange new age of heroes, kings, gods… and monsters." Nezu said to himself as he closed the door to his office.
