The Heroic God Slayer

Chapter 12

This time will be dealing with some separate exposition from All Might and Jonathan at the start. But then I'll move into more of how the kids are all handling the new normal the first Campione has shoved onto them. So on with the show.

(No POV)

"Okay what do you want to know?" Jonathan asks as the day was winding down in the clearing, he dropped the teachers at. He had mostly spent time reading a Western he brought along, while Aizawa and Kan were gathering a bit of firewood. Midnight and All Might though had stayed back and were setting up a camp with some gear that Jonathan had teleported in.

Midnight though was a bit curious about the man though. Including why he was doing what he was doing. "I don't get it. Why are you even helping Midoriya with understanding his Campione abilities? Let alone trying to teach the other kids. You've made it fairly clear you dislike quirks and most of us who call ourselves heroes. So, I'm failing to comprehend what you get out of this." Once Midnight's questions and slight ranting are done, she gives Jonathan a pointed look.

The first Campione nods before sighing a bit. He gets out a few hotdogs and starts cooking them, while gesturing for Midnight to sit as well. When she does, Jonathan starts to explain. "Its not like its entirely selfless on why I'm doing this. I want to make sure that Izuku will have the best chances to survive for the battles he'll indefinitely have to deal with. In the past, most of the Campione were at odds with one another. Each competing to prove who was the strongest, or had the most territory, or other petty things." Jonathan started with.

Upon hearing that, Midnight snorted before saying, "sounds like they were no different than some of the politicians ruling certain nations." "That is accurate. Some of it had to do with the time periods they were from. Others…. They had shitty lives before they became Campione. And they lost themselves in their obsessions and power. Possibly to forget. Me… I'm from a more modern age. Thus, I have a bit more modern perspective and moral. Heck. One Campione in the age preceding mine believed the decline of the world started with the invention of the steam engine."

"You're kidding." Midnight said with a flat look. Jonathan just shrugged before saying, "I wish. Fact is… I probably wouldn't be doing any of this if I wasn't born in the age where the USA was a power in the world… Though there is a bit more of a selfish reason I'm doing this." With the last part said, Midnight saw the pensive and downtrodden look that Jonathan had. She put a hand on his shoulder and said he didn't have to explain if he didn't want to. Jonathan leaded back before sighing again.

"It's probably better if I just talk about it. The fact is… I'm almost 300 years old. In that time… I've had to watch so many family members die. My parents. My siblings. My lovers… but the worst of all came from watching my children, and even grandchildren die. I outlived them all due to being a Campione. It was actually so bad at one point that I was looking forward to battle with a rogue god. Because there was a chance, they could kill me and let me rest in peace with my family." Jonathan said with his eyes moistening up. Hearing that, Midnight felt a large amount of pity for the man she saw as a villain a few days ago.

Midnight puts together where some of his mentality comes from after that. "Thus, you take something of an interest in making sure your Campione siblings have the best chances to survive. That way… you don't have to walk existence alone." "Something like that yeah. It's not perfect. And honestly, I'm concerned about what some of them might do. But it's at least a way to keep some kind of connections…. And try to make sure they have a good chance to stay alive." Jonathan says as he stares off into the distance. Midnight then notices that a few tears had started to fall from the first Campione's eyes.

A small smile comes over her face, and she quietly wraps the much older man in a hug. Jonathan is a bit surprised by her actions. Especially considering how he acted the first day they met. But he relaxes into it and lets the tears fall a bit more… Before both notice that the hotdogs he was cooking have turned to char.

"Sooooo….. what's going on here?" Kan asks upon returning to the camp and seeing Midnight and Jonathan in the position they were in. Jonathan just coughs before saying he was talking about a few things dealing with Campione. Midnight though blushes a bit before moving away from the old warrior. After eating dinner and with the sun going down, Jonathan tells the rest he'll keep watch over the camp. "I'll join you. I have some things I want to talk to you about." All Might says with his big smile. The other heroes agree and call it a night.

Before All Might can start asking questions, Jonathan holds up his hand to tell the hero to be quiet. He then makes a magic circle in the other and passes it over the two. "Okay. We should be good. I used a little silence and illusion magic to make sure you and Yoichi's secret can stay that way." Jonathan says nonchalantly. All Might is shocked at what Jonathan had said, let alone the resonance that seemed to ring within One For All when the man said Yoichi.

All Might gulps before asking the burning question: "Do you know about One For All?" "Not that so much that I know about that as I do the original user of the power. But it might be easier if he and the rest were to talk about it." Jonathan says with a smirk. He then tents his hands before chanting.

"The tests have been endured and the soul awakened. Allow those gone to show their form once more. For their wisdom and clarity has need." Once the chant was done, All Might could feel something resonate within One For All. Suddenly, many of the previous holders emerged from inside All Might. Directly in front of Jonathan was Yoichi himself, with a shocked look upon his face. Beside All Might was one that he did not recognize and another he was thought he would only dream of seeing. The one on his left was a broad-shouldered man with a bald head and goggles atop it. With black jeans and a black leather jacket. Soon introduced as Banjo Daigoro. But to his right was none other than Shimura Nana.

"How?" Yoichi asks while looking over his soul self. "The power of Psyche. I fought her a couple of centuries back. Aside from giving me an easy window to look into anyone's soul, I have a variety of other things I can do to people's minds. This is just a….. more unusual application. I usually use it to make something akin to a powerful telepathic attack from the bodies or souls of those who may be around. But I can also use it like this." Jonathan says with a smirk. All Might though just stands as he can see his master again. And a flood of tears fills his eyes.

Nana herself tears up too, and she then wraps Toshinori in a hug. Before saying, "I'm proud of you. I'm just sorry I could never tell you from within OFA." From Daigoro though, he just chuckles before telling Toshinori thanks. "You beat the enemy we've been trying to defeat for decades. And now the world is closer to peace than it was before." Banjo says before patting Toshinori on the back.

"Yeah but now he has to be extra careful with whoever he chooses next, if you do intend to pass the power down." Jonathan says with a stern look. Yoichi nods before saying, "I thank you, Master Jonathan. Not just for leaving this to me and those who I would entrust this power. But also, for giving us this chance to meet. Though I doubt we'll be able to do this as often without your help." Jonathan nods before agreeing to that point. Once Toshinori had calmed down, he wanted to share some of the stories about his battles and adventures over the years of being a hero.

Nana just laughed though before telling him they already knew everything. "You are not alone with the power of OFA. We saw every battle you went into. Even the failed attack against Jonathan here. That was a spectacular fail in its own right." Nana says with a teasing smirk. Toshinori just blushed before he asked about some more details with how Jonathan knew about OFA.

Yoichi and Jonathan decided to recount the tale. About how not long after Yoichi had been imprisoned by AFO, some of his subordinates attacked a museum and stole the artifacts within. "They didn't know that Master Jonathan here had taken it upon himself to protect all the world's museums. And he knew right where they had gone." Yoichi started. Then came Jonathan's recounting of his slaughter of an army of 10,000 strong quirk users allied under AFO. With him going into some of the grizzly details of how he killed some of them.

While it made Toshinori a bit sick to his stomach, he was even more curious about how the battle between the two went. "He was pathetic. Calls himself a demon king. What a joke. I stomped him into the ground in five minutes." Jonathan describes with a scoff. A hearing the symbol of evil referred to as that and how quickly he was defeated, Toshinori feels even smaller compared to the titan that is Samson Jonathan Fredrickson.

Yoichi then spoke up, mentioning that some of his brother's enemies had broken in and ended up freeing him. "On the way out, we happened upon Master Jonathan here torturing my brother. He stopped long enough for me to appeal to him. I asked him to let me handle stopping my brother from then on. It was my responsibility to stop his madness. Even if I couldn't do it right away. By the way, what were you doing to him at the time? I could barely recognize him."

Jonathan just shrugs before saying, "Uhhh let me think. I think at the time I was cutting him apart and slowly pulling his bones out through small incisions… different from when I completely sliced him open stem to stern and just ripped them out….. yeah that was it. Oh, as well as running thousands of volts of electricity through his nerves so he couldn't pass out and making sure he couldn't go insane with the power of Psyche." Upon hearing that all those listening (save Yoichi) turned green and looked like they wanted to vomit. With Toshinori calling him a sick man. Jonathan just shrugged again and moved on.

Yoichi decides to bring up the fact that Toshinori didn't truly make sure that his brother was dead. The current holder of OFA agrees. Saying, "I wanted to, but I passed out from the injury he left me with. Torino and Nighteye got me away as fast as they could to get treatment, I guess. But with how severe his injuries were I can't think he's still alive." "Oh, he is. Dumbass is still kicking, but now he's hiding away and biding his time." Jonathan says brining down Toshinori's hopes. The god slayer recounts what happened on the first day he arrived in Japan and how he dealt with it. "With some luck he'll still be afraid of me. So, he likely won't make a move while I'm in country. And once Izuku is ready… well he should be fine."

Toshinori nodded before mentioning that he was planning to pass OFA to a successor. Which was why he was teaching at UA. But Jonathan interrupted him again and warned him away from passing the power to anyone who was 'sick'. "Well obviously I wouldn't pass it to-" "No I mean you can't pass it to anyone who is sick with a quirk. You'll kill them." This shocks everyone gathered, and Yoichi asks what the older man what he means.

Jonathan went on to explain that he can see a complication that none of the rest can thanks to his authorities. As well as the general problem with quirks as well. "There's a few problems to quirks as a whole. One of which being what it does to the mind. When the virus goes active, it takes part of the brain – part of your mind – and makes the power itself. And it doesn't recover. As well as sticking to the quirk as a whole. It's the same for AFO. He's probably got thousands of minds wrapped up in his power. In your case, you all work together and thus are stronger and more balanced in most cases. However, there comes another cost. The virus that makes the quirks affects the body in greater ways. Making it break down over time. The only ones who don't have problem….. are the truly human ones like you Toshinori."

With that said, a new soul arrives to speak. He appears to be an older man compared to the rest, with a set of cracks along his face. He introduces himself as Hikage Shinomori the fourth holder. "I was just listening in for the most part, but I think it does explain some things. I held the power of OFA for almost 20 years, but towards the end….. these cracks appeared on my face. Perhaps it is just as you say. My quirk, added on with the two quirks mixed to make the original OFA as well as the previous two before me, caused my body to break down." Yoichi then puts a few things together and finishes the thought. "Yagi-kun though didn't have a quirk as a child. Meaning he was able to handle OFA as a whole without the more dangerous mixing of the quirks."

Jonathan nods before telling Toshinori that he can't pass the power to anyone with a quirk. "They'll most likely die. You have to find someone human if you want the power to continue. And they'll have to do the same. Or…. You don't pass it on, and you let the power die with you." With that said, Toshinori is just shocked by what he has heard and the possible ultimatum that comes with his power. He sighs before saying he needs to think on this a bit more. All the older members nod, with Jonathan releasing the magic that brought them all out. Though Nana does take a moment and hug Toshinori again, before saying goodbye.

With that done, Toshinori turns in for the night. While Jonathan quietly creates a spell to make sure that nothing will come close to the camp, before going to sleep himself.

For the kids though they have had all sorts of issues and adventures along the way. Koda's group made it to the bay and linked up with Izuku and his group. "You managed to tame a wyvern?" Izuku said when the group landed. Koda just blushed before answering. "He was so freaking MANLY Midoriya! He stood up to a huge red dragon and managed to get it to stop!" Tetsutetsu says before asking Kirishima and Reiko what had happened with their group. Todoroki though looks down before sighing. Momo notices this and asks what happened. "I couldn't do a thing against the dragon that was up on the mountain. I attacked with ice wave after ice wave. It just burned through them or smashed it apart with its tail. I was useless." Sero then notes that the rest of them were in much the same position. Pony nodding along beside him.

Izuku hummed before saying they needed to make some more shelters. He's not sure what to say to Todoroki. Or really anyone else who may be feeling like their quirk is outclassed. 'I've lived my whole life without a quirk of any kind. Now I've got all this new power, and it makes most quirks seem…. Pitiful in comparison. Let alone the fact that quirks are only around thanks to some idiots wanting to make a superpowered army of some kind. Sounds like a bad movie plot.' Izuku thinks while picking up massive trees to make into new shelters.

Momo meanwhile makes some more saws to cut the branches and other items for camping in Vanaheim. The selkies then arrive and pass share some fish and seaweed with the students. "Not sure what you can use the seaweed for though." The male selkie says as he hands over the fish to the hardheads. Momo then makes a large pot and asks Todoroki to light a fire with his quirk. He gets this look on his face that shows how furious he is at her suggesting that. He seems about ready to lash out at her in some way, when Izuku steps in. "Todoroki! Don't you even think of yelling at Yaoyorozu. I can't believe I have to say this to you…. But cool off or I'm tossing you into the bay."

The look on Izuku's face shows that he is not playing around, as he picks up boulder and chucks it out to the middle to make his point. While the bi-colored teen doesn't want to use his fire side, he also knows that Izuku could easily do it. So, with an angry breath out he does light the fire. Momo though is both glad that Izuku defended her, and slightly aroused at seeing the young god slayer angry. Mina and Reiko are much the same, while Pony and the rest are a bit nervous at seeing Izuku threatening and about to toss someone to their possible death.

Once that was done, Momo started cooking the seaweed with some of the sea salt gathered and the water from the river. Kirishima and Tetsutetsu had taken to grilling up some of the fish next to a second fire. Izuku, Koda, Mina, and Pony go out into the tree line to gather some other plants to cook for the night. Todoroki meanwhile grumbles while making a small amount of ice to break off and melt for cool drinking water. Sero chose to focus on using his tape to make sure the shelters stayed put, with Reiko also lifting up some rocks to better block the wind.

When the gathering team got back, they chopped up the wild carrots, mushrooms, and plants. Then added them to the pot that Momo was cooking out of, while she added some fish pieces to the soup as well. "So…. Any idea how we get back?" Sero asks before they start eating. Izuku just sighs before saying, "my guess: we won't be able to go back until Master Jonathan thinks we've learned enough. Though how he supposedly judges that I have no idea."

Momo nods before noting that it probably has to do with Izuku himself. "I think I kinda see what you're getting at Yaomomo. Izuku's planning to be a hero and all, but he also has to do this whole Campione thing to deal with. And if….. well some of us plan to be close to him….. we have to accept some of those insane risks that come with being associated with a Campione." Mina says with a blush while eating one of the fish Tetsutetsu had cooked up. Reiko agrees before noting the way Jonathan carried himself and focused on teaching Izuku what it means to be one of them.

Izuku sighs before agreeing. "I'm not sure why he's doing this. But it does seem like he wants to make sure I know what it means to be a Campione. And being a king of the world." "His methods are a bit extreme though. We could have DIED while dealing with that dragon." Pony says while enjoying a bit of the soup. Izuku just chuckles before mentioning that Campione usually do things in the extremes for victory.

While the group at the bay is getting settled in, a few of the other teams meet up on their way to the bay. Xeimei and her group wandered by some of the mountains and bumped into Bondo's group. Upon seeing her, Mineta and Kaminari were especially happy. "We might have a better chance at living if we stay with you." Kaminari says before trying to hug Xeimei. But this action annoys the girl, and she binds him with some wood spells before saying they needed to keep moving. "HEY! Don't leave me behind!" Kaminari shouts from the vines he is tangled in. Ochaco has to give Xeimei a bit of a pout, but she does release the electric perv.

As Jiro and Ojiro's groups followed the rivers, they eventually ran into one another. "So, you met a creature that was playing some music as well?" Jiro asked as they were walking downstream. Itsuka nodded before saying, "yeah it was really nice. He even did some prayer or something for being a good audience." "Better than the one we had to deal with. It almost lured Jiro here off a cliff." Setsuna says with a smirk. Jiro blushed and Itsuka tried to reprimand her classmate. Until she tripped and found something interesting. "Whoa! Is this a gold nugget?" Itsuka says with wide eyes.

Ojiro meanwhile had been scouting ahead, using his tail to move around the treetops. When suddenly a tree he was on collapsed and fell atop a large boar. Killing the beast. The young man's eyes were wide that he managed to luck into defeating something that would have plenty of meat. Sen was checking the rear when he heard someone cry out and asked Aoyama to come with him. What they found was a young man who was pinned and being attacked by wolves. So, the two hero students worked together to save the man. With Aoyama blasting his laser at the wolves and Sen breaking the tree atop the man.

"Thank you young ones. I am Hulgi. I came to Vanaheim looking for a challenge on the hunt. I was not expecting a tree to fall atop me." Hulgi says to the two boys. He starts to question their strange appearance when they all hear Kinoko call out to them. "GUYS! Ojiro-kun found something big! We gonna need some help!" Hulgi tells the two he would accompany them for a time. When the trio arrive, a few are confused by the stranger. But more are wondering what they can do with the large boar in front of them. "You killed this beast young… I'm not sure what you are tailed boy. Anyway. If you'd be willing to share a bit of the meat with me, I'd be happy to butcher this beast." Hulgi says while bringing out his knife.

Since none of the rest know how to do such a thing, they happily agree to Hulgi's terms. While the man was working, Itsuka told the rest they should make camp. With Sen, Jurota, Tokoyami and Aoyama using their quirks to fell and clean a few of the trees nearby. While Ituska used her quirk to break and move a few boulders around for better sitting stones. Kinoko and Tsuyu meanwhile focused on the gathering of edible looking plants and mushrooms. Setsuna and Jiro kept watch with their own quirks. Once Hulgi was done, he had formed some of the boar hide into cloaks that could function as blankets for the hero students. And, with a bit of teaching them how to make the tools, made bows, arrows, and spears from the bones, sinew, and tusks of the beast.

"This should also help to keep you safe. Those strange abilities can only do so much after all. Even the All Father has the sense to learn and train in all things." Hulgi says before the group settles in enjoy some of the meat roasting.

For Torru's group, they are mostly enjoying their time with the Faye. Especially when they help to gather up some roots and plants for their own dinner. Kamakiri had eventually calmed down and was focused on cutting branches and grasses to make their camp. "I can't believe we got sucked into some area where I don't have anything to fight! Hell, those damn bugs kept me flying in the air to where I couldn't even touch them." Kamakiri grumbles to himself while making camp with Manga. The latter of whom used his quirk to stick the pieces of wood together for the shelter, before starting a small fire with his words.

Back at the bay, Mina starts to question other things about the status quo of the world. Even if only in her mind. 'What Master Jonathan said about quirks being a disease… I wonder what the end result could be. Would there be more people like me? Who end up hunted by the gods and heroes of old because we shouldn't exist this way? Will we even be human anymore? Not sure why I'm asking these things. Maybe being around Midori and getting attacked by Momotaro was what I needed for introspection.' Once Mina had finished eating, she excused herself from the camp. Kirishima warns her to stay in view of the fire, though Mina just gives a dismissive "yeah, yeah" as she walks off.

Izuku though can tell something is up and follows after her. "Mina! Hey wait up!" Izuku says while trying to catch up to the pink girl. Mina though looks down before sighing. "Its just… this all so insane! First me getting attacked by Momotaro. Then meeting that nutcase, Jonathan. You getting into a massive fight with him and destroying a whole faux city. And now to top it all off, we are in a magical world that none of us would have probably believed existed! It's all….." "Too insane to handle?" Izuku finishes her sentence with a small smile. Mina just sighs before agreeing with him. She sits down on a log before asking some other questions and speaking her thoughts. Including, "I do like you. But I'm not even sure if I want to get closer to you right now. I thought you were so cute and heroic before…. And now I not only see you as heroic, but I also see the compassion you have. But I'm scared for what you have to fight and deal with. Let alone wondering if you'll turn into someone like Jonathan eventually."

Izuku blushes at Mina admitting she like him. While also seeing her point. "I've wondered some of that myself. What is my life going to be like eventually? Where would I really fit in the world? I don't have a quirk, but I have more power and capability that virtually everyone with a quirk. Let alone learning the truth of quirks as a whole. Maybe that is some of what aniki is hoping to teach me. And maybe….. I'll have the answers someday. But for now, I just want to focus on keeping everyone safe until we get home." Izuku says before sitting next to Mina. While hearing Izuku's doubts doesn't alleviate Mina's fears, it does help her see some of what the green teen is going through. She smiles a bit before leaning on Izuku's shoulder.

They stay there for a few minutes before Mina suggests they head back to camp. Suddenly though, a mist comes over the grounds. And neither student can see the other. "Mina! MINA! Where are you!?" Izuku calls out while trying to use his strength to blast away the fog. But it doesn't budge. Izuku decides to try something Jonathan had suggested to him. Focusing his magic on his ears, Izuku finally hears Mina's voice. But it suddenly becomes muffled, as if she has been captured or knocked out. Izuku bolts in the direction of sounds he hears while still calling out for the pink girl.

He finally breaks through the mist to see a ship in a different bay. Atop the ship is a man with wild red hair and is wearing a tunic of greens and browns. In his right hand is a harpoon like spear, though it first looked like an oar when Izuku arrived. While slightly appearing, axe shaped for blade of the oar. Over his left shoulder though was Mina. Tied up and struggling. This makes Izuku see red, and he rushes toward the man to punch him as hard as he can. But the man waves his harpoon to the sea and a wall of water stops Izuku's attack. Suddenly, Izuku is blasted back by a mixture of wind and water. Before feeling the harpoon pierce his shoulder. "It appears my aim is off. I cannot believe my mother allowed not just one, but two of you God Slayers here. Let alone those others." The strange man says with a voice that would match a storm out at sea.

He then calls his harpoon back before saying, "this one though is interesting. And a bit feisty too. Rather different from my love of the cold and winters. I doubt this one will take long to charm though." This makes Mina and Izuku's eyes widen in a variety of shocks. The former being of fear and panic, while the latter is furious. He wants to attack again, but the stranger keeps him pinned with water and wind. "NO WAY I'LL LET YOU HAVE HER!" Izuku screams as he uses his Xbalanque authority to move within the man's shadow and attack. But right as he is about to strike, the strange man uses Mina as a shield. Making Izuku hesitate enough to allow the man to pierce Izuku's stomach.

"You care for this one. Let us see how far that will take you God Slayer. I will take what I will from her in two days. Come face me if you believe you stand a chance," the man says before tossing Izuku to the shore and casting off. Mina screams for Izuku while the boy bleeds out. "Mina…. NO!" Izuku says while dragging himself over the rocky beach. The man smiles before giving the boy a bit of mercy. "If you pass this day, know that it was Njord who defeated you. And if not, come face me. For all the good it will do." Njord says as the mists from the sea move in again. Izuku meanwhile is bleeding out on the beach when the rest find him after hearing the shouts and screams. 'I will save you Mina! I won't let him take you!' Izuku thinks before passing out.

Little much I know, but I did warn that Izuku would have to deal with a Norse God. Let alone setting up for other conflicts, and questions to be answered. So know Izuku has to face off with a Norse God of the sea….. on the sea. Anyway, please review!
