AC: I also want to thank my Beta-reader FollowerOfAnhamirak for his time on this chapter. I hope you enjoyed it.
At the Major farm, everyone was up and preparing for the day. They had a nice breakfast and after that, it was time for work.
Cassandra sighed as she sat on a chair. Her ankle still hurt and it was best to let it rest so she had little to do for now. She wouldn't complain about it. She worked so much to keep their house that a little break like this wouldn't kill her. Besides, they wouldn't know if anything would remain from the home. The M'arrillians were there and might have taken everything already, if they had a use for it.
Donald split up the chores between everyone who had accepted to help. Kaz was chosen to feed the animals, "Be careful with the chickens. They are pretty feisty with new people. Got them because they give delicious eggs, and their meat is delicious too."
"N-no wonder they're ready to pull up a fight after you say that," Kaz remarked as he listened to what he had to do.
Agitos decided to keep an eye on the boy. The creatures had already finished a bit of training to keep their body active. He didn't know how to pass time on Earth.
The Cothica was a strange place, he thought.
Rothar saw that as his chance to be with Cassandra and get to know her more. Despite the obvious dark aura coming off the teenager when he grinned.
"Tom. You'll help me with getting rid of the weeds so it won't spoil the carrots," he pointed at them. It was a field isolated from the others. It was something for consumption. Donald pointed at the large field, "I'll take care of this while you help my grandson," he asked Intress. He then looked at Arias, "And you can help my wife fix the roof of our garage."
The creatures nodded. Once it was done, everyone went to work.
"Fixing a roof. Can't believe I've dropped from warrior to that," the ram grumbled as he went towards her. Still, he wondered how she was a builder. It did make sense to him as the man was busy at the farm, that someone else had to take care of that.
Chapter 84: A Day At The Farm
Kaz brought everything to feed the chicken. He found the bag to be pretty heavy. He yelped when someone suddenly took the bag.
"I can help you. Seeing you drag it on the ground was a pretty shameful sight to see," the blue Underworlder commented.
The boy opened the fence protecting the chickens and keeping them from going too far outside of their little home. The chickens were making some noises and walked around, ignoring the boy.
Once Agitos went inside and made his presence known, it suddenly went quiet. The chickens and the rooster turned their heads towards him.
Kaz gulped, "Guess… they never saw a creature before."
"What are those Overworlders wannabes?" Agitos asked. He never saw what a chicken was, and an appearance similar to a creature went way over his head.
The boy and the creature didn't dare move. Still, the teenager realised that they ignored him and sidestep a little, unsure of what might come next.
Agitos had no intention of letting those things intimidate him. He put the bag on the ground and gazed at them.
The next second, every chicken jumped on him.
The scream of the Underworlder echoed so loudly that everyone on the farm heard it.
An hour later, Agitos walked towards the house with Kaz behind him. The blue creature had been pecked everywhere and felt parts of his body he had never felt before. That was including the war against the M'arrillians where he had been gravely injured.
Rothar saw him and was about to laugh when he caught the glares of the other creature.
"Not a single laugh. You try handling those Overworlder wannabes! I was overwhelmed by that army! The male one was so vicious!" Agitos ranted for a while before he walked away quietly.
Cassandra snickered quietly and put her hand over her mouth.
Rothar coughed quietly as he found how to start the conversation. He waited for Kaz to walk away, "How's it going for you?"
"I'm fine," she replied with a small smile. Her pain was slowly going away. She crossed her arms and watched everyone working, "Wish I could help them," she watched her bandaged foot. She couldn't really move it for now. Still, the pain was lessened than yesterday.
"Even now, you are still…" he stopped himself. He knew what he said would be too obvious, "Strong."
Cassandra knew he was about to say something else. The woman wondered where he was going, "Anyway, I just wish I could do more," she grabbed something she left on the ground. She looked at the picture on it.
Rothar watched it and saw the image of a man with Cassandra and a little Kaz. It was a Caucasian man with pale brown hair and blue eyes, "Who is that?"
"My late husband. He died a while ago. Since then, I had to do two jobs to take care of my son," her lips went down as she sighed, "I really miss him. I love him so much and one day, he was just gone," she sighed quietly and gazed at the Underworlder, "There is so much that we didn't have time to do together. Not a lot of regret. Kaz is okay and he is strong," she smiled, "He is responsible and brave. I am so proud of him."
"I can see that," he sat by her side, "Ever thought of finding a new mate?" that came out more naturally than he expected. It was a genuine question. It wasn't about him trying to get her this time.
"Not really. I'm… I'm still not ready," she admitted.
Rothar pouted on the side, but he decided to wait later to actually try to get her. Right now, it wasn't the time. They were at war. Still, getting to know her more was a step forward, "He was a lucky man to get you."
"Sure. He said that a few times… even the day when…" she was quiet before she spoke more about him.
The creature sighed and added nothing else.
Meanwhile, Arias grumbled at his task. He was transporting a few bags that were heavy for humans, but light for him, "Your kind is so weak," he complained as he raised his arms and brought it to the roof. He then joined the woman who already began to fix it.
"With my age, it is harder than when I was a fine woman. I had many children to help me, but now, it's just my husband and me. I appreciate your help," she grabbed a hammer and a nail before beginning her work.
The Overworlder nodded as he rested his back against the wall. He closed his eyes for a few seconds. He raised his head and felt the warmth of the sun on his skin, "What do you know about your grandson?"
"Tom?"
"Yes. I don't know that much about him. Mostly his reputation," he replied.
"What is his reputation? You can answer me after I'll answer yours," she giggled.
"It might be better," Arias agreed.
Justine thought about it. She assembled her thoughts and told him what she knew about it, "Tom is a brave boy. When he was young and visited the farm, he always wanted to explore around. When he brought his best friend Kaz, we all had to keep them under watch. They could disappear in the woods over there. They almost got lost in the woods when they wanted to explore it. They are so curious. Donald also liked to bring Tom and showed him how to hunt. He taught him how to use the carbine."
"So, he knows how to fight?"
"A little. I remember when he got into- Oops. That's something he doesn't want anyone to know. I cannot break his secret," the old woman put her hand over her mouth.
The ram creature was curious about it. He tried to get an answer, "And what did he get into? I know kids can go to the wrong places."
"That's how you got that in your nose?"
"No!" he yelled. He felt a little insulted, "No," he didn't explain it.
"No. Tom didn't do anything bad or went in the wrong crowd. Just something he ended up by accident. It was the last thing he wanted to do, but he committed until the end," she replied.
Arias gave more tools to fix the roof when she gave the sign. He let out a small smile, "This place is nice. It makes me think back to my village."
"Really?"
"Yeah. It was small, but we worked together. It was harder when the Underworlders raided and took everything we had. The harvesting can be wasted by one of their attacks. I heard it happens less often. Guess Maxxor organized the protection of the villages efficiently," he commented.
"I guess they weren't the nicest guys," Justine commented as she gazed at Agitos who walked near them, wounds over his body. "What happened?"
"Those Overworlder wannabe creatures called chicken attacked me on sight!" he yelled furiously.
"I guess that raiding the Overworld has been heard by them. The Cothica felt the weight of your actions and you paid for it here," he snickered.
"Those chickens can be pretty violent. And since they never saw a creature, they decided to attack. I'm sure they won't hesitate to do the same to you Arias," she sighed, "My husband should have told you to stay away from them."
The blue Underworlder nodded, "Yeah. He should have."
Meanwhile, Tom and Intress pulled the weeds so the carrots could grow healthily and delicious.
"You are good at this Tom," she commented.
The boy grumbled as he took more, "Yeah. I did it often when I visited them and I had time. Couldn't bring anything else with me here. Didn't have my scanner, any video games. Just a few books," he smiled, "Still, I always like visiting them, even when I end up in the field."
"You learned to enjoy it," she smiled.
"I did. Won't make this a profession. Still, I'll have a garden in the future," he replied.
The creature nodded. She thought about their situation. She knew the M'arrillians might eventually come here. That was a possibility. It depended on the decisions the enemies would make, "Tom. You know that they might eventually come here, right?"
"Yeah. I know. Dad will call us if they come. Mom has the phone near her, just in case," he gazed at the house. He remembered they had agreed that someone should stay inside for the phone call. Cassandra might be close, but she had to rest. His mother would cook lunch later on. He had a thought, "Intress, was Maxxor okay before you came here?"
"Yes, he is. He wasn't hurt and he was glad you came out unharmed compared to your friends."
"Yeah. It was really painful to see," he thought back. He was glad he didn't do anything too reckless in his mind. Still, the M'arrillians were on Earth now. What would happen next was unknown.
"Tom?"
"Yeah?"
"I'll do anything to protect you and you better believe that."
"I believe that Intress," he replied. He chuckled nervously as he pulled another weed, "Intress. Will the others come here eventually?"
"I am not sure, but I heard Najarin went to get a book. He is planning to research everything. There is a chance that there is a way to fix the portal. It was built long ago. Still, he commented that it might be outside of the continent," she replied.
"A world beyond the continent?"
"If there is one," Intress replied.
The boy was quiet. He closed his eyes and thought more, "Maybe I'll call Codemaster Crellan during lunch. He might know what is going on in Perim. I mean, he has contact with both worlds," he smiled.
"That will be good. I wonder what Maxxor is doing. The alliance might be a little thin and… You can believe that Maxxor and Chaor will try to talk to you."
"I believe you," Tom replied.
The two chuckled as they continued their work. They stopped when it was lunch time and they went to the house.
AC: This is the end of this chapter. Hope you enjoyed it.
Next Chapter: In Chaotic, the creatures waited for Najarin to find a way to repair the portal. They entered into communication with Tom and Kaz.
