New chapter up. Thanks to everyone reading my little tale. Enjoy.
Vala sat alone in her holding cell, trying to focus herself. She had been unsettled by her conversation with the Sith and nothing she did seemed to work to bring herself back into balance. She even tried reciting the Jedi code, as she'd been taught. Unfortunately, after evaluating the code with the Sith, she was no longer so sure about its total validity. She could not balance herself to a code that she might not totally agree with anymore.
This thought scared her.
The Jedi code was supposed to be absolute and her faith in it unwavering. Was this how the Sith planned to turn her to the Darkside? Corrupt her by making her doubt her own beliefs?
The only problem was, she didn't feel any closer to the Darkside than she had the day she was captured. She still felt like a Jedi and she still believed in the Lightside of the Force. She knew this in her heart. Was it possible the current interpretation of the Lightside was simply wrong? Could there be a different Lightside?
The more she thought about this idea, the more she wished she could speak with her grandmother. Satele would be able to explain all of it. She was a master of the Light. As Grand Master of the Order, surely she'd know the real truth? She'd know it and she'd be willing to share it with her granddaughter.
Right?
Marr kept a light connection with his prisoner once she was returned to her cell, pleased with what he was sensing.
Vala was wavering. He'd ripped apart her beliefs just as completely with his gentle approach, as he would have if he'd tortured her. The next part of his plan wouldn't be as easy, though. He needed to start twisting her thoughts towards his way of thinking, without forcing the process. She needed to come to the conclusions herself, which would take even more time and patience than he'd shown already.
Marr also needed to start showing the girl his humanity. The Jedi had been taught that Sith were vessels of pure evil. He needed to allow her a way into the Darkside, without forcing her to totally abandon her Lightside ways all at once. She needed to see the parts of the dark lord which weren't open for others to see. The parts which would normally make a Sith appear weak. The parts which actually were a source of quiet strength, when allowed to thrive.
The truth of the Force was no secret to Marr. With time, it wouldn't be a secret to Vala either. On that day, the girl would be his. With any luck, she'd be exactly what we'd been looking for.
