A/N: Sorry for the wait! I hope this chapter is up to standards, I didn't have as much time to review it as I would have liked but I didn't want to leave you waiting for a few more weeks. I hope you like it, let me know what you think!
As for the last few chapters please take caution while reading if you are sensitive to themes of sexual assault.
She could feel Sidney sitting down beside her. Her vision was blinded by tears as she turned her head away from him. She could feel Whale removing the IV from her hand but she couldn't bring herself to open her eyes to observe what he was doing.
"Please," she said in the quietest, most tortured of voices.
There were tears streaming down her face when she felt Whale take her arm. She didn't waste her energy trying to resist his actions, but she still jumped a little when she felt him give her another injection of some sort.
"I want to go home." She whispered in a shaky, desperate, and almost silent voice. "I want to go home. I want to go home..."
"I'm afraid not," Whale spoke to her. "You're never going home Regina, you're never going to escape this town, and do you know what else you'll never get to do?"
A small sound came from the brunette but it didn't really qualify as a response, she still didn't open her eyes.
"You'll never get to say goodbye to your family," Whale continued in feigned sorrow, "and you're never going to see your son again. He may never even know what happened to you."
Regina felt her heart ache at the mention of Henry. That had been the hardest part during all of this, being away from her family. Before her abduction she had never truly believed that she would make it to Boston, but she had taken comfort in the fact that even if her life was coming to an end, she was going to be able spend her final days surrounded by those she cared about.
"Do you think he'll miss you? Or do you think he'll get over your death quickly?" Whale asked. "He will after all, still have his real mother to look after him. Everyone knows Emma is his favorite, and we all believe that Henry's life would be better off with her."
Regina tried not to pay attention to what was being said to her, and instead she tried to focus on seeing their faces in her mind. She thought of Henry, she thought of Emma, she thought of Snow and David and the unexpected role they now played in her life. She thought of Henry as a baby, she thought of her parents, she thought of anything that would help distract her from this.
"I have to go back to the hospital now," Whale's voice said to Sidney. "This one's a little slower but it should kick in within a few minutes."
He was right, Regina realized. Whatever the injection was this time, it wasn't taking immediate effect, which meant it was different from the ones Whale had given to her downstairs.
"How long will you be gone?" Sidney asked.
"Long enough, don't worry you'll have plenty of time."
"And you're sure no one will find us here?"
"No one even knows you're involved in her disappearance. You'll be fine."
Regina could hear Whale stand up and gather a few things. "Have fun," he said before the door could be heard closing behind him.
Regina sniffled. She felt Sidney place a hand on her, and without really thinking, she turned over, away from him. The motion caused her to feel a little dizzy, but once the initial shock wore off, she found herself feeling a little less vulnerable even though her back was now to him.
She was still crying, and as much as she wanted herself to stop she couldn't.
Sidney got up and moved around to sit on her other side so that he was facing her again. He frowned at the tears streaming down her face. "This was never the way I wanted it to be either My Queen."
Sidney reached over to where Whale had fastened Regina's wrist down. Feeling his hands there, she lifted her eyes to see what he was doing, and much to her surprise, he began unfastening the cuff.
"I'm sorry he's been doing this to you."
Regina closed her eyes again, breathing a soft laugh of disbelief. "You're no better than him Sidney." Her raw voice said as she drew her newly freed hand to her chest and rubbed the irritated skin.
"But I've never done anything to hurt you." He replied defensively.
Regina blinked her eyes open tiredly. "Oh haven't you?" She asked in a quiet, but incredulous voice. "Who was it who nearly killed me with his failure to follow what I'm sure were very simple instructions?" She snapped, causing his eyes to flash in an almost fear. "Who was the one who allowed my house to be set on fire while my family and I were still inside?! Who was the one who dragged me across the room downstairs, and held me down while Whale could inject me with whatever the hell poison he's been dosing me with?"
"I... that wasn't–the house was–" Sidney stammered, obviously he hadn't been expecting this. "The needles are something of Whale's own creation. He spent days mixing them up, he says they cause pain."
"I'm well aware of what they do Sidney."
He gulped nervously at her tone, he clearly hadn't been expecting this from her. Even Regina was a bit surprised by the little spark of fire that had stirred in her, but even as her mind was going through possible ways out of this situation she could feel the effect of the newest injection beginning to take its course.
This one was not forcing her system into overdrive like the ones Whale had used to torture her with did. Instead it seemed to be doing the opposite. She could feel her senses numbing, her thought process slowing down.
Regina breathed heavily, shutting her eyes tightly as she tried to fight the drug. Sidney looked relieved as he realized the needle was finally working.
"I asked Whale to give you something to help you relax." He explained, lifting his hand to gently touch her cheek. "Don 't be afraid, I won't hurt you."
"Do you really expect me to believe that?" She pushed his hand away angrily.
"Since you've been here I haven't once raised a hand to you Your Majesty."
Regina took a sharp breath. "The only reason Whale is able to do these things to me is because you helped bring me here. Not to mention the way you just stand by and watch as he tortures me... you're just as much at fault as he is."
"This would have happened even without my help, it wasn't my idea it was Whale's. He was already going to do this to you when I was asked to join. The Blue Fairy would have just found someone else to help him if not me."
"And let me guess, you only agreed to help because you were afraid of what would happen to you if you said no?" Regina asked with disdain.
Sidney's face turned a little red. "I only agreed at first because I thought maybe I could protect you from him. I..." He looked away, almost embarrassed. "I love you." He said quickly, still not looking her in the eyes.
There was a sinking feeling in Regina's chest. She felt her eyes water but she quickly blinked the tears away. "If that's really true then why haven't you once tried to stop him? Tell me, why are you doing this to me Sidney? Why are you here, right now, instead of back in town telling my family where I am? Why aren't you helping me escape?"
He breathed a deep sigh, gently caressing her arm. "Because Your Majesty, you tricked me, and then you trapped me in a mirror for years. Whale reminded me of these things. He told me I didn't have to be the pawn in your chess game anymore. He said I could finally be free of the hold you've had over me since the day we met. You manipulated me for decades here in Storybrooke, always promising that there would be something more between us, but I was always just a joke to you wasn't I?"
"It wasn't my magic that trapped you Sidney, you were the one who used magic you clearly didn't understand." Regina whispered.
"But it was because of your cruel deception that I fell in love with you in the first place." Sidney replied nastily. "You shouldn't have used me to get ahead Your Majesty. I murdered a king for you, I freed you, and how did you repay me? You ruined my life. That's why I'm now helping to destroy yours. I do love you Regina, but I hate you too."
Regina blinked back more tears as his eyes raked over her.
"You're right, I shouldn't have done that to you," she whispered, "and while I know it's too late now, and while I know you probably won't believe me, I am sorry for it. But here in Storybrooke... I've never promised you that we could be together Sidney, in the twenty-eight years we've lived in this town, I've never once said any such thing."
"But you implied it. And you're going to regret that, because now Your Majesty, it's time to finally come through and honor your word." Sidney said, running his hand up her leg.
"Sidney," Regina's voice broke. "I know you're not a bad person, you're better than this. Whale is the one who's been manipulating you here. He's convinced you to do something I know you never would on your own."
She took a deep shaky breath, she really hoped she could get through to him. "I understand you're angry because I hurt you, but doing this to me isn't going to make you feel better." She was looking up at him, hoping for a glimmer of compassion in his expression."Maybe it will... temporarily, but in the long run you'll grow to regret it. This isn't going to change anything, it's just going to leave a bigger hole in your heart. Trust me Sidney, I know better than anyone, revenge isn't the answer."
A tear ran down Regina's cheek as he cautiously put his hands on her again, feeling her, slowly exploring what had been out of bounds from him for so many years.
She whimpered unintentionally when he pressed a little too hard just below her chest.
"Does that hurt?" He asked in a surprisingly quiet voice.
Regina was shivering, her eyes were closed as another tear escaped her lashes. "Yes," she whispered.
Sidney breathed a small sigh as he lifted her shirt back and observed the darkening patches on her skin.
Misinterpreting his intentions, Regina quickly grabbed his arm to stop him, but he easily captured both her wrists in his hands.
"When she mended your bones I asked Blue to heal your bruises as well. At first she wouldn't, but later she came back and took most of them away."
"Blue," a heavily breathing Regina repeated. "So I did have some broken bones; I didn't dream that?"
"No you didn't. She healed them while you were unconscious."
Regina winced, taking in a sharp breath as Sidney's cold hand touched one of the bruises on her abdomen.
"If she wasn't going to heal all of them, why bother at all?" Regina asked through somewhat clenched teeth.
"She knows you're quickly losing strength, she and Whale are trying to keep you alive as long as possible."
"For optimum suffering," Regina said tiredly. "Great."
After a few moments her eyes saddened before she ultimately closed them again.
"Sidney please don't do this to me." She said quietly. "This isn't you."
He was looking down into her eyes, even though he kept trying to appear tough, Regina could see that he was still hesitant, and she took that as a good sign. She knew her current health and physical state were on his mind and she hoped it would be enough to stop him. She decided she didn't have anything to lose by trying to get through to the part of him that did still seek her approval. She knew it couldn't have disappeared so quickly, and she knew now that Whale was gone it would be easier to influence Sidney's emotions. She was not going to lie to him, but she chose her words carefully.
"You don't have to let me go Sidney..." Regina said softly. "I'm not asking you to let me go... I know it would put you in danger, I know they would know it was you. But please, just tell Emma where I am. She'll take care of everything else. Neither Blue nor Whale would ever have to know you were involved. Tell Emma. Or David and Mary Margaret, even Kathryn. They'll find me, and nothing will point back to you I promise."
"If I did that Whale would know I told them."
"Please, once I'm out of town David and Mary Margaret can protect you," Regina took his hand, desperate for his help. "I promise they will, but only if you help me get back to my family. They won't punish you if you help them find me."
She studied him for a few moments, seeing the words sinking in.
"But know this Sidney, if you don't help me, and if I do die here, my family will find who did this to me. And when they do I can assure you there will be the severest of consequences for all of you." Regina said with a little more venom.
She continued to hold his gaze. Despite wanting to just curl into a ball and imagine she was somewhere else, she knew she needed to at least try to hold onto her limited strength.
"Sidney if you've ever cared for me at all you will do this for me. Please. I can't survive much longer here."
Sidney was silent for a few moments before he finally responded. "Why should I help you after everything you've done to me? After how you've treated me since the day we met?"
"Because..." Regina said quietly. "Because I'm sorry for what I did to you Sidney, for what I did to everyone in this town. I really, truly want to make up for all the pain I've caused; but I can't do that if I die. Please, give me this chance to make things right again."
Sidney remained silent for a few moments as he gazed down at her, clearly at war with his instincts.
"Isn't that what you want?" She asked. "For things between us to be right again?"
Sidney was quiet again, his eyes had drifted away from hers for a short while as he considered his actions. After a brief time his eyes slowly met hers again.
"All I ever wanted was you." He said.
Across Town
"This is useless!" Emma complained. "We don't even know what we're looking for!"
"Emma..."
The Charmings, Kathryn and Ruby were at the town hall, searching Storybrooke's town records. She and her parents were in one room while Ruby and Kathryn were searching a different office. They had only been there an hour so far but already Emma was growing extremely anxious.
"Why is it that Gold's 'help' only seems to be slowing us down? And should we even be trusting him after everything he's admitted to?" Emma fumed.
"Emma it's okay," David assured her as he flipped through some pages. "I know it's tedious but we'll find something."
"Or maybe this is all just a waste of time." She replied a little hysterically. "Gold could have just sent us here on a wild goose chase so the others would have time to finish Regina off in peace."
"Emma seriously," Snow replied in a hushed voice. "Please don't say that."
"I'm sorry... I–" Emma breathed a frustrated sigh. "I'm just... I'm just worried okay?"
"I know Emma, but you need to try to stay calm. Losing your temper isn't going to help us find her any faster."
Emma sat down and slowly slumped forward in her chair. She leaned against the desk in front of her, burying her face in her hands. "She's just... she's so sick. And she's been gone for so long."
"We know she has," David said gently. "But the faster we get through these files, the closer we'll be to finding a clue as to where Regina might be."
Snow gave them both a sad smile before turning back to the computer she had been searching. Her eyes scanned the words on the screen in front of her, before moving on to the next page.
When her eyes landed on a very specific name, her heart skipped a beat and she gave an audible gasp.
Emma and David looked up quickly.
"What is it? Did you find something?" Emma asked quickly.
"No it's..." Snow replied, reading the screen. "I thought I found... but... No! It is."
"What?!" Emma asked, nearly knocking her chair over as she flew out of her seat to see what her mother was looking at.
"I found a building registered in Sidney's name," Snow said hurriedly. "At first I thought maybe it was just his house, and since we've already checked there it wouldn't be much of a lead... but–"
"What is it?!" Emma cut her off, "does he own another place?"
"Yes..." Snow replied, "up by the east end of town."
"There's hardly anything over there." David said, also coming over to observe what was on the computer screen.
"There's some old abandoned houses," Snow replied, looking up at him. "I always just assumed they were vacant properties of Gold's."
"Why would Sidney need a second house?" Emma asked.
"I don't know..." Snow replied. "But it's been there as long as Storybrooke has existed. It looks like Regina gave it to him at the start of the curse."
"But why?"
"If I remember correctly, the houses up there are cottages. Maybe giving him a summer place was her way of saying sorry? She gave Jefferson a mansion... and Spencer. She gave special treatment to those who could be considered allies at least, if not friends back in our world."
"Okay, you know what? Who cares why Sidney owns this place," Emma interrupted. "We may have just found Regina! Let's go!"
"Wait, Emma shouldn't we come up with a plan first?" David held his hand out to stop her. "What if they're prepared for an ambush?"
"Trust me," Emma said, eyes full of fire, "nothing could prepare them for me."
Before Snow or David could say anything else, Emma was out the door.
