Regina awoke for the first time in her bedroom in Emma's new apartment. She felt much more comfortable than she ever had at the hospital, but that could simply have been the fact that the bed was actually big enough for more than one person, and there was no medical equipment hooked up to her. As her eyes drifted over to Emma she breathed a contented sigh.
The blonde appeared to be in a deep sleep, and so Regina decided to get up and start getting ready for their day out in the city. She could hear the television on in the living room and supposed Henry must have already been up for a while. She decided to go see him before taking a shower.
"Good morning Henry," Regina said softly as she came to stand behind the couch. She leaned down to give Henry a half hug and kiss the top of his head.
"Morning." Henry looked away from the show he was watching. There was a pause as he bit his lip and looked as if he wanted to ask her something.
"What is it?" Regina asked curiously.
"Mom… did Emma sleep in your room last night?"
Regina felt her heartbeat increase despite there being nothing unusual or wrong in it. "Yes, she did. I couldn't sleep because… well to be honest I was a little nervous about staying on my own last night."
"Oh," Henry nodded, but looked sad at her answer. "You don't feel safe here?"
Regina smiled but shook her head. "It's not that I don't feel safe… it's just that… well I suppose I just didn't want to be alone. I've grown used to you two being in the hospital room with me, or with nurses coming and going all the time. I suppose it was just too quiet. I'm sure I'll get used to it soon though. I really do prefer being here over being back at the hospital."
Henry brightened at that. "That's good. I'm really happy you like the apartment. We were so excited to show it to you. I wanted to tell you as soon as we moved in but Emma wanted it to be a surprise."
"It was a nice surprise." Regina agreed. She moved around the couch to sit down beside him. "Emma and I were talking last night, and we thought it might be nice to go out and explore the city a little bit today. I think it would be a nice way to spend my first day as a local in Boston don't you think?"
Henry smiled and nodded, but after a few moments of hesitation he asked, "Mom?"
"Mhmm?" She responded, brushing her fingers through his hair.
"If it's okay… I think I want to stay here and work on school stuff today."
"What?" Regina asked in surprise. "Henry you've been working so hard, you deserve an outing. And besides, I am so looking forward to spending the day together." She said in dismay.
Henry shrugged apologetically. "There is a project I want to get done before the end of the week and I'm worried if I stop working on it I'll lose the motivation."
Regina's eyebrows raised in disbelief.
"Look at it this way…" Henry went on. "You and Emma wanted to go shopping right? Sorry Mom but… I know girls take hours to shop, and going from clothing store to clothing store sounds really boring to me. "
Regina pressed her lips together as she thought about this. "I suppose… but Henry I don't need to go shopping today. I thought going into the city together would be a fun way to celebrate my leaving the hospital."
"And it can still be if you and Emma go without me."
Regina studied him through furrowed brows. "Henry is there something you're not telling me?"
"No." Henry said innocently.
"Do you have a fever?" She asked, feeling his forehead with the back of her hand.
"No," Henry laughed, lightly pulling her hand away.
Regina gave a small nod, still looking concerned. "But you would tell me if there was something bothering you?"
"Yeah, but there's not." He responded.
"I don't understand. I thought you loved exploring Boston."
"And I do, but I've seen way more of it than you have, and I really do just want to get my project done. We'll have lots of time for adventures after my project is done."
Regina breathed a small sigh. "Well if you're sure you don't want to come… I guess we can still have dinner together later tonight?"
Henry grinned, nodding.
Regina leaned in to press a gentle kiss to his cheek. "Well, enjoy the rest of your show. I'm going to go freshen up." She said, leaving the room feeling a little confused.
Emma woke up feeling much more at ease than she had over the past few weeks. Last night had been the first night Regina and Emma had slept in the same bed since Storybrooke, and Emma had missed the wonderful feeling of having the brunette so close. She could hear Regina getting ready in the bathroom as she stretched her arms up then flopped back down, feeling lazy. Emma was about to close her eyes again when she heard the bathroom door open and Regina stepped out wearing full makeup and looking more radiant than Emma had seen in nearly a month.
"Oh good morning, I didn't know if you would be awake yet." Regina smiled. She gestured to her outfit: a pair of sleek black pants and a burgundy cashmere sweater. "I had a hell of a time finding something to wear today, I don't know what I was thinking when I told you what to pack. Even if it's not today, sometime this week we are definitely going to need a shopping day."
Regina froze when she saw that Emma's jaw had dropped open and appeared to be stuck that way.
"What is it?" Regina asked in a panic, touching a hand to her cheek. "It's too much isn't it? I'm not used to doing my makeup anymore and I may have gone a little overboard."
"No, Regina it's not too much. It's just… Regina you look amazing."
Regina's expression instantly changed and Emma could see a slight color creeping up her neck at the compliment.
"Do you think so? I wasn't sure if makeup was a good idea or not."
"I do. You definitely don't look like you've just been in the hospital for two weeks."
Regina looked touched as she sat down on the edge of the bed. "I thought I would make a bit of an effort for my first day back in the real world. I don't want to feel like a sick patient anymore, I just want to feel like me again."
"I get it." Emma beamed. She reached out a hand for the brunette. "So… can I kiss you or will I smear your lipstick?"
Regina laughed softly, before moving closer to Emma and placing a loving kiss to her lips. When they'd pulled apart again, her thumb came up to rub the red lipstick residue from Emma's mouth. "Now hurry up and get ready, I want to go out and enjoy the fresh morning air."
"Have you and Henry already had breakfast?" Emma asked, sliding out of bed. Her arms pulled Regina gently closer to her as she took in the woman's exquisite beauty.
"I haven't, but I don't know about Henry. I'll go ask if he wants me to make him anything. Do you want me to put on some coffee for you?"
Emma groaned appreciatively. "That would be amazing. Thank you."
Regina's sparkling brown eyes adoringly studied Emma's for a few moments, before she looked away in embarrassment. "You know I can't make you anything until you let go of me Emma." Her warm, soft voice said.
"You look good Regina." Emma said in an almost whisper. "I think the doctor was right, being away from the hospital is a healthy choice."
Regina's eyes visibly softened as her gaze met Emma's again. "I think so too." She said, leaning forward to kiss Emma once more. She sighed, taking Emma gently by the arms. "Henry's not coming with us today."
"What? Why? Is he sick or something?"
"No… He said he wants to finish a project for school." Regina said with a dubious look in her eyes.
Emma leaned back with a similar look on her own face. "Well that just doesn't sound like him. Since when is he one to skip out on an adventure?"
"I know… I thought it was strange too, but he insists he just wants to finish the project before he loses motivation. And he doesn't want to go shopping with us."
"We can go shopping any old day." Emma said in surprise. "That shouldn't be a deterrent."
"I know, and I told him that too."
"Huh…" Emma's voice trailed off in thought.
"It's bad timing I know… especially because of our announcement… but we'll still have plenty of time tonight to tell him."
"I guess." Emma shrugged. "Well we can't force him to come with us, but don't worry, we'll still have a good day without him."
Regina sighed through a smile. "I'm not worried."
They stood gazing at each other for a few more moments before Regina reached down to remove Emma's hands from her waist. "Now go get ready," she playfully hit Emma's arm. "I want to get as much out of this day as possible."
"Regina you do know there will be other days right? We don't have to do the whole city in one go." Emma teased over her shoulder as she paused at the door.
Regina's only response was to point in way of saying 'go'. Emma shook her head, grinning as she left the room. Regina continued to smile as she watched Emma walking down the hall, and then followed after her when she remembered she had promised to make coffee.
It was during regular school and work hours but the streets of downtown Boston were busy with locals, joggers, bicyclists and anyone else who happened to be out enjoying the beautiful weather.
Emma and Regina were currently taking a leisurely stroll through Boston Common. Emma knew from a tour that she and Henry did that the park was the oldest in the United States, and for some reason that made her appreciate sharing its charms with Regina – rather than any other person – all the more special. However something that worried Emma was that often when they were passing through busy areas, or on the more rare occasion when they passed by some shady looking people, Regina had the tendency to reach for Emma's arm. Emma didn't mind in the least, in fact it thrilled her that Regina wanted her to stay close, but she couldn't ignore the fact that she knew it meant something was wrong. Most of the people they passed were very normal, nice looking people, and yet for some reason Regina felt that they were a threat to her.
After about half-an-hour of this, Regina simply slipped her arm through Emma's, and walked with her other hand resting on Emma's arm too. When Regina did this Emma tried to give her a reassuring smile, but Regina's gaze was faced away from her. Emma briefly placed a comforting hand over Regina's in return, before placing both of her hands in her pockets as they continued to silently wander the paths.
They were walking at a slow pace, and Emma was purposely slowing herself down so as not to accidentally rush Regina. As they were walking along a path that faced the Massachusetts State House, Regina commented for the first time in a while.
"Do you think this place is haunted?" She asked conversationally.
"The park?" Emma asked. "I mean… it's the oldest park in the U.S., but honestly I think this whole city is haunted. Why do you ask?"
"Just curious that's all. I don't often come to places with so much history."
"What are you talking about?" Emma asked in surprise. "Didn't you go from castle to castle during your time in the Enchanted Forest? Those have got to have some ghosts." Emma nudged her playfully.
Regina breathed an unenthusiastic laugh as her gaze dropped to the ground. "My mother commissioned our family home, and when I was Queen I lived in a relatively modern castle… although, the ghost of Snow's mother certainly kept her grip on the place, or at least her memory did…"
Emma winced, and quickly deflected the topic away from deceased relatives. "Henry and I actually did a ghost tour here. I know what you're gonna say. Before you rip my head off it was his idea and he begged me." Emma raised a hand in defence. "I picked one that was kid friendly I swear. But I do remember that there were a lot of executions here… and one of the oldest cemeteries in the country is just outside this park. It used to actually be a part of the park… until it became its own thing. Oh! I do remember that there have actually been several ghost sightings around here. Many visitors have told stories of spirits they've seen, and the same ghosts have actually been seen on more than one occasion. A bunch of people have seen these two women wearing early nineteenth century clothes. They've been seen sitting on benches or walking arm in arm." Emma felt Regina's steps falter a bit as she looked down at the similar way they were walking, and then back up at Emma.
"Creepy, right…" Emma admitted. "Sorry… but you did bring it up."
Regina pursed her lips together in a smile. "That I did." She cleared her throat, looking up towards the State House. "Well in that case I think we'll stick to daytime walks whenever we come back here." Regina smiled softly over at Emma.
…
They had made their way out of the park and were now near Faneuil Hall Marketplace, which was where Henry's comic book store was. Emma heard Regina gasp softly. She quickly looked over to see what had gotten the brunette's attention. Parked at the side of the road a few meters ahead were several elegant horse-drawn passenger carriages. Suddenly, for the first time that day, Emma was being hurried along by Regina. Emma knew of Regina's fondness for horses and so couldn't help but grin as she felt the brunette's pace increase ever so slightly to get to the animals faster.
She slowed again once they had reached the first carriage, and Regina admired each horse as they walked slowly by them. Soon there was one horse in particular that had caught Regina's eye, and she stepped cautiously towards it.
"May I?" Regina asked softly, quickly glancing at the coachman before setting her eyes on the animal again.
"Of course you can, she's very friendly." The man replied in a thick Boston accent, smiling at her and Emma.
Regina nodded her thanks before stepping forward and reaching her hand slowly up towards the horse's muzzle. The horse bowed her head a little, and Regina's smile grew as she rested one hand on the horse's neck, while petting the bridge of the animal's nose gently with the other.
"What's her name?" Regina asked softly, still smiling up at the horse.
"Name's Brandy."
"It's nice to meet you Brandy," Regina said gently.
Emma hung back a little to give Regina some space, but she was beaming as she watched, overjoyed to finally see a real smile on the brunette's face.
Regina stayed like that for quite a while, seeming to forget that anyone but she and the horse were still there, until her mind snapped back to attention. She glanced back at Emma, and her breath caught in her throat as she noticed the way the other woman was looking at her. Regina's gaze dropped to the ground as a slight blush rose in her cheeks before she looked up at Emma again.
There was a soft smile on Regina's face, but the blonde's smile fell a little as she realized there were a few tears in Regina's eyes.
She was about to ask what was wrong when Regina turned to the coachman again. "I'm so sorry, I'm taking up your time aren't I?"
"Not at all, I've no one booked so take as long as you want." He replied kindly, taking a seat on the carriage steps to rest his legs. "I'm sure Brandy's loving the attention."
Regina's hands were still on the horse as she smiled gratefully back at him. She glanced back at Emma. "We can go if you want. You're probably getting bored aren't you?"
"Not at all. Seriously I'm in no rush." Emma replied.
Emma loved the way Regina's eyes seemed to sparkle upon hearing that, and when Regina turned her attention back to the horse again, Emma bit her lip as she tried and failed to make her goofy smile disappear.
As Regina was petting the horse Emma took out her phone to check the time, and was glad to see that they still had plenty of day left.
"Hey Regina, I'll be right back okay? I just gotta go use the bathroom."
"What?" Regina quickly turned, as if panicked by the words. Brandy fidgeted in response to her sudden stress, and so she quickly shushed the horse and continued to pet her, but was looking at Emma.
"It's okay I'll be quick, just keep hangin' with Brandy. I'll be back in a few." Emma assured her. "Unless you have to go too?" She raised an eyebrow.
"No I'm alright for now." Regina replied in a quiet voice. She looked to the horse and then back to Emma uncertainly, it seemed like she wanted to stay but also didn't want to leave Emma.
"You can come with me if you want, but I'll be really quick. She felt badly for Regina but she also knew the other woman would be safe here for a few minutes. And Regina didn't realize that Emma would keep her in sight practically the entire time. Emma stepped forward and placed a gentle hand on Regina's arm. "Just stay right here, you'll be fine I promise. I'll be right back okay?"
Regina nodded, forcing a smile as Emma rubbed her arm a few times before turning and joining the passersby on the sidewalk.
Regina watched her until she disappeared from view. She shot a somewhat self-conscious look at the coachman and she was relieved to see that he was preoccupied and didn't seem to notice her nervousness. After a glance around the streets, Regina turned her attention back to Brandy. Now that Emma was gone she stepped a little closer to the horse and petted the animal's back.
"So are you a horse owner yourself?" The coachman's voice broke through her thoughts a minute or so later.
"Not anymore, but I used to have quite a few. I even had my own stables."
"Hey that's great! But not anymore?"
"No..."
"Why not?"
Regina shook her head, "I moved to a new town."
The coachman nodded as if this made sense, but Regina could tell in his expression that he didn't quite understand. Regina decided not to enlighten him as the story was far too complicated, and she didn't feel like fabricating one. Luckily for her, the man seemed too polite to ask her to explain further.
Regina sighed softly. She glanced back at the street hoping to see Emma returning, but the blonde was nowhere in sight. Being in the city alone was beginning to spike Regina's anxiety, but she tried to bury it and keep her attention focused on the horse. She was a grown woman and she could handle being on a busy street in broad daylight in one of the safest parts of Boston on her own. She had to be able to handle it, otherwise it meant she had lost more of herself than she cared to admit.
Only about a minute later Emma came rushing back. "Hey!" She said announcing her presence. "Check out what I got for us," she held out a ticket to show Regina.
"Is that for this carriage?" She breathed.
"You bet," Emma grinned, handing the ticket over to the coachman.
"Well I guess I'd better officially introduce myself." The man said. "My name is Arnold and I'll be your driver today. I see you've bought the hour long ride, which means we'll be going through Post Office Square and then onto Devonshire Street where we'll continue on to pass the State House, and then we'll have a little trip through the Commons. Sound good?"
"Perfect." Emma agreed.
As Arnold prepared to start their trip, Emma gave a small bow and held out her hand to Regina. "Your carriage awaits, Your Majesty." She said with a twinkle in her eye.
Regina tutted as she half rolled her eyes, but she smiled in response and accepted Emma's hand. Regina climbed up first with Emma following behind. Arnold was speaking but neither woman was really paying attention to him until he kindly asked. "Are you all set to go?"
When they both agreed, Brandy was given the cue and their scenic journey began.
"Emma you didn't have to do this," Regina said softly.
"I wanted to, you've been so down lately, you deserve this Regina."
Regina had an emotional look in her eyes as she smiled at Emma. "I'll pay for half."
"Out of the question. Why do you always want to pay for stuff when I'm trying to do nice things for you?" She teased. "This is my treat."
Regina's lips twitched as her gaze dropped to the ground in an almost self-conscious way. Finally she looked up at the other woman again. "Thank you Emma." She said softly, inching closer to the blonde.
Emma wrapped an arm around Regina's shoulders. "You're welcome," she murmured, kissing Regina's temple.
They enjoyed the next couple of minutes in silence as they took in the beautiful city around them.
While they were passing through Post Office Square, Emma rubbed Regina's arm softly. "So why were you crying earlier?" She asked in quiet concern.
"I don't believe I was?" Regina asked in confusion.
"You got a little teary-eyed while you were petting Brandy. Did that spark some bad memories?"
Regina's expression changed as she realized when Emma meant. "Oh... no not bad memories, not all bad anyway. It's just, Brandy reminds me of my first horse. I loved him so much, he was more than just a pet to me, he was my best friend. In fact, he was the only friend I had for many years."
Emma smiled softly. "What was his name?"
"Rocinante."
"That's a mouthful, is it like Spanish or something?"
Regina nodded distractedly, and Emma wasn't sure if that was a proper reply or not. "He died... right before the–" Regina stopped herself, glancing at the coachman whom she assumed could probably hear at least some of their conversation. "–right before I moved to Maine."
Emma's expression changed as something clicked in her mind. She knew exactly how Regina's first horse had died. Regina had been a different person back then, and heartache had driven her to do something terrible; something that tragically, had ultimately been for nothing.
Emma breathed a sad sigh. "Oh, Regina I'm sorry for bringing it up, I didn't know."
"It's okay," Regina whispered softly. "You asked because you care. I was just reminiscing earlier that's all."
Regina breathed a contented sigh as she took in the passing city around them. She shifted in her seat so there was a few extra inches between the two of them, but next she leaned into Emma's side and rested her head against the blonde's shoulder. She wrapped her own arms around herself as she continued to admire the historic city.
Emma felt her heart warm as she wrapped another comforting arm around the brunette.
Regina blinked her eyes closed for a few moments to enjoy the feeling of the gentle breeze across her skin. She placed her hand briefly over Emma's, where it was resting on Regina's arm as the blonde held her.
"Thank you for doing this for me Emma." Regina said softly.
"Yeah no worries, it was worth it."
Regina smiled. "How much did it cost?"
"It doesn't matter how much it cost Regina, it was a gift. The fact that it made you happy is repayment enough for me."
Regina felt her breath catch in her throat at Emma's words. She turned to look up at Emma, there was emotion shining in her eyes as she stared into Emma's affectionate blue ones. She opened her mouth to say something but found that she couldn't. She blinked back a few tears as she rested her head on Emma's shoulder again, and continued to watch the passing buildings.
"What is it?" Emma asked softly as she rubbed Regina's arm gently.
Regina was quiet for a moment. "Emma no one has ever cared for me the way you do."
Emma couldn't help the small smile of affection on her face. "Well as I told you once before Regina, you're special to me. And I don't ever want to take that for granted. Without you I never would have found my real home, without you I never would have found my family."
A tear escaped from Regina's lashes and she quickly wiped it away, hoping the other woman hadn't seen it. "Emma… don't take this the wrong way," Regina began softly, sitting up so she could look into the other woman's eyes properly. "But I'm glad you gave Henry up all those years ago. If you hadn't, it would mean we never would have met, and I don't even want to imagine what my life would be like without you."
Emma breathed a soft laugh as she ran a hand through the brunette's soft hair. "And Regina, I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but I'm grateful that Henry ran away from home. Because if he hadn't, I would never have even known your name, and I wouldn't want to live the rest of my life without you in it."
"Emma," Regina whispered. "You shouldn't say that." She felt her heart flutter a little, letting her gaze drop to her lap as Emma's words washed over her. When she looked up at Emma again there were more tears in her eyes, but she quickly blinked them back as a warm, but also sad smile graced her lips. "We don't know if I'll even have that long."
"You will." Emma insisted gently. "Because now that I've found you I'm never going to let you go. And I mean that in the absolute least creepy way possible." She added with a grin, causing Regina laugh softly.
Tears were threatening to fall as Regina remained silent for a few moments, but soon her eyes softened and she looked back up at Emma again. Regina's red-painted lips pressed together for a moment as her gaze drifted to Emma's soft-pink ones. However, Regina's eyes quickly raised to meet Emma's again and they lingered there.
Emma's own questioning eyes were exploring Regina's in return. She saw Regina lean forwards ever so slightly, but then pull back in hesitation. The movement was so slight that it was almost unnoticeable, but Emma saw it. Emma noticed everything when it came to Regina. To show the brunette that it was okay, Emma carefully placed a gentle hand on Regina's cheek.
Regina inhaled softly, and Emma's hand moved from Regina's cheek to brush her hands through her hair, and Emma adored the way Regina's eyes fluttered closed at the touch. Emma ran her fingers through the brunette's hair a second time, but this time her hand stopped mid-brush and came to rest on the side of Regina's head. Regina softly blinked her eyes open once more as Emma's other hand gently cupped her cheek.
Regina's heart was beating so strongly that she was sure the driver was likely to hear it. She reached for Emma in return, and she placed one hand lightly in the curve where Emma's neck met the back of her head, and the other gripped Emma's upper arm. Emma drew closer to Regina but the brunette swiftly and gracefully eliminated the space between them and captured Emma's lips softly with her own.
Emma made a quiet, involuntary noise of desire as she wrapped her arms more fully around Regina to deepen the kiss. She felt Regina smile against her lips and Emma knew her quiet cry had not been lost on the other woman. It had barely been two days since they had confessed their love for each other, and after so long of dreaming and wishing, Emma still couldn't quite believe that this was actually real. Regina shared in her feelings, and it was better than Emma had ever possibly imagined.
Their lips parted for the briefest of moments as Regina turned her head, finding the perfect angle.
Emma couldn't seem to decide where best to place her hands. They were in Regina's hair, on her back, caressing her face... it was as if Emma had never been allowed to touch Regina before.
"Emma," Regina's chuckling voice said against her lips. "We should stop."
"Wh–?" Emma pulled back just enough to look at Regina and saw the humour in the other woman's eyes.
"We're in the middle of the city, I'm sure people don't want to see us making out."
Emma amicably pouted, brushing a few strands of Regina's hair back from her face. "Who cares what they think?"
Regina hummed a smile. "Even so, you can continue kissing me later if you want to. For now let's not miss the rest of this carriage ride."
"Oh alright…" Emma feigned a grump.
"I love you," Regina's soft voice said, causing Emma to grin and pull her into her embrace. Regina's heart was filled with happiness as she settled into Emma's arms again and they watched the rest of the journey pass them by.
About forty-five minutes into their drive, Emma looked down as her phone began to ring in her pocket. Regina had to shift a little as Emma reached for it and checked the caller ID.
"It's my mom." Emma mumbled, frowning.
Regina's hand covered hers. "Don't answer it." She said softly. "We can call her back later. Let's just enjoy the last few minutes of the ride.
"You're right." Emma agreed, slipping the phone back into her pocket.
Regina settled back down into Emma's embrace and they continued to watch the city passing by. A minute later they both heard Emma's phone ringing again. Emma breathed a frustrated sigh. "Whaaat?" She whined, checking the ID which was the same as before.
Regina breathed a disappointed sigh and sat up. "Maybe you should answer it after all, she'll only keep calling."
Emma huffed. "Sorry."
Regina shrugged it off, but she couldn't help feeling a little annoyed with Snow.
"Hello?" Emma answered. "Hey Mary Margaret. Wait…what? Whoa slow down."
Regina caught a hint of urgency in Emma's tone and so she sat up a little straighter. She asked Emma a silent question with her eyes, but Emma just shook her head. Regina felt a little panic growing inside her chest but she tried to remain calm.
"Mary Margaret this is actually a really bad time to talk about this… I know… I'm sorry. I'll call you back when I get to the apartment okay? It's not like… urgent urgent right? Okay… I'll call you back after then."
When Emma had ended the call Regina asked, "what happened?"
"Something back home. I'll tell you later." She said, pointedly looking to their driver, who somehow had managed not to react the whole time they were frolicking in the backseat. "Don't worry, no one's in danger. Or at least… I don't think they are."
Regina looked concerned but she nodded her understanding, and the two of them settled back down together again. It was a little harder to enjoy the trip from then on.
Once their carriage ride was over they thanked and said goodbye to the driver and to Brandy, and then Regina hurried Emma over to a quieter corner of the street. "What did Snow say on the phone?" She asked in a hushed voice.
"You know that weird rain that happened over your house that day after the fire?" Emma asked.
Regina nodded.
"Well apparently it happened again. Only this time… it was over the whole town."
"But what happened? Is everyone okay?" Regina asked.
"I think so yeah, but I didn't want to get into too much detail with someone listening in. I'm sorry Regina, I think maybe we should cut the day short and head back to the apartment. It's the only place we won't be overheard you know…" she dropped her voice to a whisper, "talking about magic."
Regina gave a defeated sigh, but she nodded her agreement. "It's okay, like you said we have plenty of days to explore the city."
Emma gave her a small smile, offering her hand. Regina accepted it and they began their trip back to the apartment.
