I Do Not Own Twilight

Aro had been happily awaiting his next scheduled call with Bella wondering how the rest of her birthday went. He sat wondering if today was an Italian day or English day when he realized they didn't really stick to that schedule anymore. He smiled knowing they were talking to talk and not for any reason other than that.

When Bella's face filled the screen, he knew instantly something was wrong, "Cara mia, what happened?" He could see her desolate blood-shot eyes, her red scruffy nose, and the anguished frown on her face.

She started sobbing, "They left me!" She put her face in her hands and Aro saw the bandage up the length of her arm.

"Calm down, Cara mia. Who left you?"

Sniffing and taking shaky deep breaths Bella tried to calm down enough to explain, "Ed…He took me into the woods and told me I was a distraction for his family. That I wasn't good enough for him. That I was boring and that his family agreed. So, they just left me." She started sobbing all over again.

Heartbreak, frustration, anger, grief all flowed out of Aro. He was heartbroken that this sweet, kind person would have to hear things spoken to her like that. He was frustrated he was unable to wrap his arms around her. He was angry anyone could be so cruel to another person. He was sad this charming wonderful girl felt this strongly about another.

He let her cry for a few minutes before he spoke again. He whispered kind words to her, "Cara mia, I have spoken to you for hours and never once gotten bored. I could talk to you everyday and not be bored. You are the most fascinating creature I have ever encountered." Bella sat up and sniffed, looking into Aro's eyes for any deceit. "I do not know why he told you that. Maybe he was lying, trying to make you hate him. Maybe he is so shallow he really believes what he says. I do not know. What I do know is that if you keep crying like you are I will have to fly to Washington, drive to the tiny town of Forks, find your house, wrap my arms around you, and kiss you silly until you forget all about this insidious boy."

Bella's eyes grew wide and she brushed her hair out of her face. She gulped and Aro could see the blush creeping down her cheeks to her neck and further on down. This didn't surprise Aro, in fact causing her blush was his plan, embarrassment was better then grief after all. What Bella said next almost knocked Aro out of his seat, "I really don't think I would mind that at all."

Bella looked at him with her wide chocolate eyes full of sincerity. She meant she wouldn't mind if he kissed her senseless. It was a good thing there was an ocean separating them or Aro would have been out the door seconds after he recovered from the shock of her statement.

Aro flirted with Bella every time they spoke. He told her it was because he was Italian and this is what they did. In reality he just told people what he thought and felt. He didn't see the need to lie. He flirted with Bella because he believed the things, he said to her.

However, Bella always took his flirting as some type of joke and would disregard what he said with a witty come-back or a roll of the eyes. This time she meant what she said.

He was about to ask her if she wanted him to fly there tonight when she looked out the door to her bedroom. "I should go. Charlie is home."

He nodded and then stopped her from logging out, "Bella would you mind chatting with me tomorrow. I would like to make sure you are alright."

She smiled although it didn't reach her eyes, "I would really like that Aro."

He nodded and they both shut down their computers.

Aro flew out of his office and stormed into the lounge where he found Caius and Marcus. He turned to Marcus, "Brother, are you positive I have a mate out there?"

"Of course, Aro. What is the matter?"

"What if I don't want a mate?" Aro huffed pacing the room.

Caius scowled, "Why would you not want a mate? They are the other half of your soul!" He ran his hands through his long blond hair.

Aro, who had been facing away from his brothers, whipped around, "Because I love her! That idiot, that imbecile, that moronic boy has broken her heart and all I want to do is fly to America and fix what he has broken. Would it be so bad if I went and claimed her? If I felt the pull coming, I could run."

Marcus was silent for a long time and Caius just waited for Marcus to say something. "Aro this girl just had her heart broken." He paused carefully choosing his words, "Bonds form best when nothing else interferes with them. If you bonded in anyway with her now it would weaken your bond with her. The best you can do for her is to strengthen your bond slowly. Once she has healed, and she will heal from this, you can bring her here. But give her some time." Marcus folded his hand on his lap and closed his eyes indicating he was done with this conversation.

Aro's body sagged and he left the room in a huff.

Caius rounded on Marcus, "What was that? You know they are mates why would you encourage him to wait? He should get her, change her, and claim her. The sooner the better."

Marcus nodded, "If you are changed with a broken heart your heart will always be a little bit broken. If he goes to her now he won't be able to help but change her. The instinct will be overwhelming because she is hurt. As her mate he will have to change her to protect her."

Caius punched his fist into his hand, "If I ever meet the hoodlum, I will destroy him."

Marcus nodded, "As will I."
