So, in response to a guest review sent by Namikaze Yo, I regret to tell you that two of the Numbers you suggested aren't going to work, the Numbers 91 and 87. The reason for Number 91 is because I have it planned for a specific character, and as for Number 87, I don't know any level 8 Plant-type monsters that are easy to Summon or have decks built around Summoning them quickly. Additionally, while I understand why you suggested Number 87 for Yomi, I don't understand why you suggested Number 91 for Hikage.
I'm not trying to be mean or rude, I just needed to put this out there. As for Number 35 for Asuka, as you requested, I simply don't think that Number doesn't really suit her, especially since I know a better one for her. All the other Numbers, however, are pretty good ideas that you suggested, so thank you for your input.
Chapter One
Yumi's First Real Duel
(Hanzo National Academy)
A blank card floated through the air, flying through an open window and landing on top of a Dueling deck, given to its owner by her grandfather as a gift. As it settled in place, the card took a form to fit in with her Deck, with the owner sleeping soundly, not knowing what had happened. As she slept, however, she started to toss and turn, her body enveloped in a dark aura. As it faded, the girl's eyes opened, and she sat up, rubbing her eyes as she looked around, confused. "Is someone here?" Receiving no answer, the girl looked around, spotting the card on her deck, a card she'd never seen before.
In the morning, she told her friends about what had happened. "So you don't know where it came from?", her blond classmate asked. She shook her head. "No, Katsuragi. The window was open because it was hot last night and I was trying to cool down, but there wasn't any sign of anyone else coming into my room." A girl with short pink hair spoke up. "Maybe someone slipped it in as a present?" The first girl replied, "I feel like they would have left a note, Hibari." The fourth girl in the room, with white hair in pigtails, spoke up. "This is concerning. If they come for Hibari..."
The fifth girl spoke up at that. "I don't think they would have left it with Asuka, then, Yagyu." Yagyu sighed. Asuka faced the fifth one. "What do you think, Ikaruga?" Her teammate replied, "I'm not sure what this is about, but let's keep vigilant, in case whoever it was tries it again." Asuka nodded in agreement, all the others agreeing as well. Kiriya happened to enter at that time, and he spoke up. "Is something wrong?" Asuka faced him. "We think someone snuck into my room last night, because I found this on my nightstand," she explained, showing him the card.
Kiriya looked at it. "Hmm... I can't say I've heard of that particular card. It must either be very rare, or just released." All five of them faced him in shock. "You play Duel Monsters?" He answered, "It's merely a hobby for me." Looking Asuka in the eyes, he asked, "Did you find any evidence of an intruder?" Asuka shook her head. "No. My window was open, but that's because I had it open to let in some cool air." He sighed. "If there was an intruder, that would have been their point of entry, then."
Facing her again, he added, "Please exercise caution from now on, and if your visitor comes again, please let me know as soon as possible." Asuka bowed. "Yes, sensei." Facing the others, he said, "If it happens to any of you, inform me as soon as you can." They all bowed. Kiriya then said, "With that out of the way, let us begin your classes for today." The girls all nodded. After going through all of their lessons (A/N- Which I admittedly know very little about), the girls went back to their common room. Ikaruga faced Asuka. "I would advise against using that card until we know where it came from." Asuka nodded, looking at it, puzzled.
(Kurokage's Cabin)
Yumi was cleaning the Duel Disk she'd found in her grandfather's room when Yozakura walked over, holding another one. Yumi faced her, and raised an eyebrow. "Where did you find that?" Yozakura looked at the one in Yumi's hands, and said, "It was in the basement. There were a couple others of the same design." Hearing this, the Ice Ninja looked at hers, then faced her teammate. "Grandfather left these for us before he died. There can be no other explanation." Yozakura nodded. "Makes sense to me. Do you think we should test them to see if they still work?" Yumi nodded. "That would be wise. Perhaps we could ask others to help us." Yozakura nodded.
Soon, the five Gessen Elites stood in the Hanzo Academy dorms, with Asuka's team facing them. Asuka spoke first. "So you guys found Duel Disks in Master Kurokage's cabin?" Yumi nodded. "The one I have was Grandfather's. The others must have been purchased after we left, because I would have remembered seeing them." Asuka nodded. "Well, how about a friendly Duel? I've been meaning to test a couple things with my deck anyway." Yumi nodded. "Very well. I accept your challenge." They walked outside and to a place where they could Duel without interruptions.
The two took their places, and Kiriya, who had followed the girls, spoke up. "Do both players agree to a fair and honorable Duel?" When both girls nodded, he said, "Then begin." Both girls activated their Duel Disks, and drew their starting hands. Their teams watched from the sidelines, everyone wondering how this would play out. Staring each other down, they both called out, "Let's Duel!"
(Asuka: 4000)
(Yumi: 4000)
Asuka called out, "I'll get this started. I Draw!" Drawing her card, she made her decision. "I'll start off by Summoning Aqua Armor Ninja!"
(Aqua Armor Ninja appeared: a level 4 monster with 800 ATK)
Asuka looked over her hand again, then said, "I'll end my turn with two cards Face-Down!" Yumi looked over Aqua Armor Ninja's Attack Points, and looked at her own hand. Drawing her card, she made a choice. "I will activate the Spell Card Medallion of the Ice Barrier! This will allow me to add an Ice Barrier monster from my deck to my hand!" As Yumi chose the one she wanted, Ikaruga spoke up. "Wasn't that Master Kurokage's deck?" Yozakura nodded. "He left it to Yumi." Continuing her turn, Yumi said, "I will Summon Strategist of the Ice Barrier in Attack Mode!"
(Strategist of the Ice Barrier appeared: a level 4 monster with 1600 ATK)
Asuka's hand slowly inched near her activation button, waiting. "I will activate my Strategist's effect! By discarding an Ice Barrier monster, I am allowed to draw an additional card!" Yumi discarded her monster, then drew her card. Facing Asuka again, she continued. "I will now activate Monster Reborn, to resurrect a monster in my Graveyard, such as General Gantala of the Ice Barrier!"
(General Gantala of the Ice Barrier appeared: a level 7 monster with 2700 ATK)
Asuka gasped in shock. "Whoa. That's one of the rarest monsters in the game!" Yumi continued. "I will now have Strategist of the Ice Barrier attack your Aqua Armor Ninja!" Asuka was ready. "I activate my Trap, Armor Ninjitsu Art of Freezing! This stops your attack and ends the Battle Phase!" Yumi sighed to herself, but replied, "Well played. However, now that I have seen it, it will not work again." Asuka replied, "There's something else about this card you should know. While it's Face-Up, and I control a Ninja monster, my opponent can't change their monsters' battle positions!"
Everyone watching gasped in shock. Yozakura spoke up. "That means Yumi won't be able to avoid taking damage unless she puts a monster in Defense Mode!" Yumi wasn't concerned. "As my monsters currently have more Attack Points, I fail to see how that will affect me at the moment." Thinking it over a little, Yumi made a choice. "I will play a card Face-Down, and end my turn." Asuka drew her card. "I Summon Ninja Grandmaster Hanzo to the field!"
(Ninja Grandmaster Hanzo appeared: a level 4 monster with 1800 ATK)
Continuing, Asuka called out, "I'll activate his ability, which, when he's Normal Summoned, lets me add a "Ninjitsu Art" Spell or Trap Card from my deck to my hand!" Choosing the card, she grinned. "I'll activate the Field Spell Hidden Village of Ninjitsu Arts!" The field shifted into a village in shadow, and Asuka continued her turn. "I activate the Spell Mystical Space Typhoon, which will destroy one Spell or Trap Card on the field! Your Face-Down is a sitting duck!" As the card was destroyed, Yumi grimaced. 'That card would have saved me completely.'
Asuka continued. "Now for the main course! I Overlay Aqua Armor Ninja and Ninja Grandmaster Hanzo!" Yumi's eyes widened. "Overlay?" "With these two monsters, I build the Overlay Network! I Xyz Summon Blade Armor Ninja!" A ninja with two katana appeared, ready for battle.
(Blade Armor Ninja appeared: a Rank 4 Xyz monster with 2200 ATK and 2 Overlay Units)
Yumi looked thoughtful. "Xyz Summon... Impressive, but I cannot say it is a game-changing card, considering it only stands at 2200 Attack Points, when compared to my General Gantala." Asuka replied, "You'll see why I chose it soon enough. Now attack her Strategist of the Ice Barrier!" Yumi grimaced as her monster was destroyed, her Life Points dropping.
(Yumi: 3600)
Asuka grinned and said, "I'll end my turn with that." Yumi offered a small smile. "So you intend to make this interesting. Who would I be to disappoint?" She drew her card, and looked it over. 'This will do.' "I will Set a monster Face-Down for later, then I shall attack your Blade Armor Ninja with General Gantala of the Ice Barrier!" Asuka was ready. "I activate my other Face-Down, Scrap-Iron Scarecrow! Not only does this negate the attack, but it resets itself after every use!" Yumi looked at the card as it flipped face-down. 'That card will be difficult to get past, but not impossible.' "I will put this card Face-Down, and end my turn. As I do, General Gantala's ability activates, allowing me to Special Summon any Ice Barrier from my Graveyard. Return to us, Strategist of the Ice Barrier!"
(Same as before)
Asuka grimaced. 'So it can bring monsters back. That's gonna be a problem.' She drew her card. "I'll Summon my Air Armor Ninja to the field!"
(Air Armor Ninja appeared: a level 4 monster with 1400 ATK)
She continued. "I can't get past Gantala because of how many Attack Points it has, but I'll just keep chipping away at your Life Points, then! I activate my Blade Armor Ninja's ability! By using one of its Overlay Units, I can choose one Ninja monster. The monster I choose can attack twice this turn!" Yumi's eyes widened. "Two attacks?!" Asuka continued. "Blade Armor Ninja, attack Strategist of the Ice Barrier!" Yumi replied, "I think not! I activate the Trap Card Ice Barrier!" Asuka looked at the card in surprise. "This Trap Card can only be activated when an attack is declared. Not only does it negate your Blade Armor Ninja's effects, but it drains it of all of its Attack Points!"
(Blade Armor Ninja's ATK: 0)
Asuka paled. "Oh, no..." She went flying as her monster collided with the Ice Barrier, landing on the ground groaning.
(Asuka: 2400)
Her teammates looked at her in concern. "Asuka, are you okay?!" She leapt up. "Is that all you've got, Yumi? I still have my other monster! Air Armor Ninja, attack that Face-Down!" Yumi smiled. "As I hoped." Asuka looked at her in surprise. "Huh?" Yumi explained. "My Face-Down monster is Defender of the Ice Barrier!" The card flipped over, revealing a yellow lizard-like monster simply staring at Air Armor Ninja, who was repelled by it.
(Defender of the Ice Barrier appeared: a level 3 monster with 1600 DEF)
Asuka grimaced as her Life Points went down again.
(Asuka: 2200)
Yumi spoke up again. "Also, I should inform you that while I control another Ice Barrier monster, such as Strategist and General Gantala, any monster you control that has more Attack Points than Defender's Defense Points are unable to attack." Asuka sighed, then looked over her options. "I'll end my turn." Yumi drew her card, and ordered, "Strategist, attack her Air Armor Ninja!" Her monster unleashed a torrent of ice at Air Armor Ninja, destroying Air Armor Ninja.
(Asuka: 2000)
Yumi was shocked. "You allowed it?" Asuka smiled. "I knew what you were up to. You wanted me to use Scrap Iron Scarecrow so you'd have a guaranteed hit with Gantala." Yumi couldn't help but smile. "I underestimated you. I shall continue my turn by Summoning Prior of the Ice Barrier."
(Prior of the Ice Barrier appeared: a level 2 monster with 1000 ATK)
Continuing, the Ice Ninja said, "As my thanks for revealing to me your Xyz Summon, let me show you a Summon of my own. Defender of the Ice Barrier happens to be a Tuner monster." Asuka's eyes widened in shock. Ikaruga chimed in. "A Synchro Summon?" Yumi nodded. "That is correct. I Tune level 3 Defender of the Ice Barrier with level 2 Prior of the Ice Barrier and level 4 Strategist of the Ice Barrier!" Defender turned into three green rings, surrounding the other two monsters, revealing two glowing stars in Prior and four in Strategist. "I open the seal of the Ice Barrier, unleashing a monster of true power! I Synchro Summon Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier!" As Yumi spoke, a massive iceberg appeared, and shattered, revealing a dragon with a body like ice, its cold gaze set on Asuka as it let loose a roar that shook the area around them.
(Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier appeared: a level 9 Synchro monster with 2700 ATK)
Yagyu spoke up. "There it is. Master Kurokage's favorite card." Asuka backstepped in fear. "I've never seen anything like it..." Yumi continued. "If its appearance frightened you, then its effects will certainly do the job. When it is Synchro Summoned, I am allowed to Banish three of your cards, one from your field, one from your Graveyard, and one from your hand. The one in your hand will be chosen randomly, but the other two are my choice. From your field, I obviously Banish that pesky Scrap Iron Scarecrow. From your Graveyard, I Banish Aqua Armor Ninja, as I am well aware of its effect that would have stopped my attack."
The two cards that Yumi selected were Banished, as well as a card from Asuka's hand at random. Asuka stared at the dragon, fear and respect in her eyes. 'So that was Master Kurokage's greatest monster...' Yumi continued. "Trishula, attack Asuka directly! Sub Zero Stream!" Asuka screamed as she was flung back, her Life Points dropping with her.
(Asuka: 0)
(Yumi: WIN)
As the monsters vanished, Yumi lifted up her grandfather's favorite card. 'Thank you, Grandfather.' Asuka got up, a determined expression on her face. "I lost this time, but now that I've seen Trishula in action, you can bet I'll find a way to stop it." Yumi answered, "I would be ashamed if you did not. Regardless, I look forward to our rematch." The two bowed, and everyone started talking about the outcome of the Duel. No one noticed a young man leaning against a pillar nearby, watching Yumi with interest. 'So you hold the Ice Dragons. Interesting. I'll keep my distance for now, but if you get one of the cards I'm looking for, we will Duel.'
A/N
After months of procrastination and delays, I've finally finished it. After some mental debate, I decided on just one Number for Yumi, though I think you guys can probably guess which one I chose. As for the boy who was watching them without being noticed, he'll play a role in this soon ehough.
