NOTE: Will Ben and Gwen enter the TV World? At this moment probably not. My reason for it is that it would require them to somehow get to Inaba.
1. Yukiko wouldn't want to recklessly enter a place like the TV world, because she has no idea where they would even end up. Remember, the Investigation Team only entered through the same TV in Junes, because they wanted to be safe and not get lost. And she isn't sure if they would even be able to exit without Teddie making an exit and he isn't here in America.
2. She also wouldn't want her cousins going somewhere so dangerous. Like, if she couldn't handle certain powerful Shadows then she wouldn't be sure if her cousins would. That would be recklessly endangering her family.
3. Ben would 100% run into the Reaper, because he's Ben and he always gets into danger.
Enjoy and Review!
Chapter 6: Girl Talks
After Leaving The Camp
Yukiko sat at the table inside of the RV, her attention focused on a book she had brought with her titled 100 Ghost Stories, Yu had recommended the book to her since she had a fascination for ghost stories. Yukiko giggled at the part she was at in her book, the moment where the girl pissed herself from pure fright. It reminded her of Chie and how she'd scare her when they were kids.
"Yukiko?"
The teenager glanced up from her book to see Gwen standing in front of her, nervously glancing around. The younger girl was fidgeting as if she was still working up some sort of courage. "What's wrong, Gwen?" Yukiko asked, putting down her book.
"Um...can we talk? If that's ok with you!" Gwen requested, timidly. Yukiko raised an eyebrow, from her little interactions with Gwen this didn't seem like a behavior she'd exhibit.
"Sure, I don't mind!" Yukiko smiled warmly. Gwen's shoulders relaxed a bit at the smile and the girl sat down at the table. However, she still took the opportunity of looking around the RV. Yukiko tilted her head in confusion. "Gwen, why are you looking around so much?" The heiress asked.
Her emerald orbs met her black ones. "Just making sure Ben isn't listening anywhere. Don't need him making fun of me or anything," Gwen explained.
"He's currently out with Grandpa at the moment, so it's just us," Yukiko reassured her. The heiress did find it odd that she was so worried about Ben listening in. Was he really that bad?
"Right, it's just that with that watch on his wrist now there's no telling. Anyway, I didn't want to talk just to discuss that dweeb. I wanted to tell you something," Gwen said.
"What is it?"
"Thank you."
"What?" Yukiko hadn't expected that at all. To be fair, she didn't know what to expect from the girl yet, they had just met after all.
Gwen didn't look bothered by Yukiko's response and continued to explain. "You saved me from that tree, and I didn't really thank you for it earlier. So, thank you," Gwen gave her thanks to Yukiko.
"It was no big deal, Gwen. We're family after all," Yukiko appreciated her words. Though, she did find some confusion afterwards. "Why exactly were you worried about Ben making fun of you? All you were gonna do was say thank you," Yukiko said.
Gwen scoffed at her words. Yukiko didn't know Ben as much as she did. "Because he's an immature doofus. Doesn't matter what it is that I do, he'll find some way to make fun of me about it, always has," Gwen glared at the table. Clearly reminding herself of all the times Ben had gotten on her nerves.
Yukiko didn't like how much the two were at each other's throats. There was clearly something that was bothering the two of them, she didn't know what. "Maybe, you two should talk about it. I'm sure he'd stop if you told him."
Gwen laughed a bit at that. "He won't listen, he doesn't really care about anyone other than himself," Gwen felt confident with her words. From all her interactions with Ben, the boy ever only did what he wanted. He had no respect for authority or even his own grades, maybe he'd actually have friends if he straightened himself out.
Yukiko frowned at Gwen's answer, not liking the tone she used either. She hadn't known the boy for long, but he didn't appear that way to her so far. Maybe he was immature, but he is currently 10 years old. "I wouldn't be so sure about that, Gwen. Maybe, he'll surprise you during this summer vacation," Yukiko replied.
Gwen didn't respond, but Yukiko was fine with that. She didn't want to start an argument with the girl, she seemed smart for her own age. Though, a little bit lonely from how she tended to act around Ben. Gwen reminded her of herself for some reason.
"Gwen, maybe-"
"We're back!" Max entered the RV with several bags in hand.
"And I have snacks!" Ben followed after, munching on a bag of chips.
Yukiko had wanted to continue the conversation, but it seemed like that would have to be saved for another day.
After Washington B.C.
Yukiko was stirred awake by the sounds of feet shuffling. Her eyes fluttered open and she saw Gwen walking out of the RV. Yukiko was going to go back to sleep, but she felt a sudden pull in her chest. As if it wanted her to follow after her younger cousin. The heiress quietly got to her feet, put on her slippers, and quietly made her way outside.
Yukiko glanced around the park that they had stopped at for the night and looked around for her cousin. She saw Gwen sitting on a bench with her laptop on her lap, the girl typing away at something. Yukiko stepped onto the grass, the soft green scrunched under the weight of her feet.
Gwen heard the noise and looked up from her computer. "Oh, Yukiko, did I wake you up?" Gwen asked, worried.
"It's fine, Gwen. I'm more worried about why you're up at this time of night," Yukiko sat down next to her cousin.
"Oh, I'm just working on an essay," Gwen answered.
"An essay? Are you taking online summer classes?" Yukiko didn't think Gwen would need to take any summer courses, the girl was pretty intelligent all on her own.
Gwen puffed out her chest, proud of what she was doing. "Of course! I usually take summer classes every summer, because I can't allow myself to fall behind. My mom always said that education is important," Gwen smirked.
"Hmm...I guess," Yukiko felt unsure about her answer.
"What about you, Yukiko? With how smart you are I'm sure you agree that education is important?" Gwen expected to hear Yukiko share her thoughts.
"Well, I do agree that education is important for excelling in life…"
Gwen beamed.
"But, it's not the most important thing in life."
Gwen's face fell. "What!? Why would you think that!?"
Yukiko looked down at Gwen's crestfallen face, she had expected to share a commodity with Yukiko. "Gwen, I believe the most important things in life come from the people around us. Laughing, crying, getting angry, or even just sitting down by a shrine to just talk to each other is a lot more important," Yukiko had a reminiscent smile on her face.
Gwen didn't understand what Yukiko was getting at, how would any of that lead to a successful life. "But, how can you be successful if you don't study or get into a good school? I was told that hanging around other people will just be a distraction from my studies," Gwen furrowed her brows. "Is Ben getting to you already?"
The heiress blinked at that question. "What? No, Ben isn't getting to me or anything like that, Gwen."
"Oh. Then, how did you spend your past summers if you didn't take any summer classes?" Gwen asked.
Yukiko hesitated a bit at Gwen's question. Most of her previous summers were spent helping out at the Inn and hanging out with Chie. However, this last summer was the best summer of her life(Minus the string of kidnappings and murders). Not only did she gain a boyfriend, but also so many different people that she will forever hold dear to her heart. "I spent my last summer with the most important people in my life. I had fun hanging out with them everyday and helping out at the Inn," Yukiko giggled.
Gwen pondered Yukiko's words, they were contrasting with the thoughts in her head. "I don't understand," Gwen frowned. Yukiko giggled and placed a comforting hand on Gwen's head.
"It's fine, Gwen. You don't need to understand right now, but just know that life doesn't revolve around studying," Yukiko got off the bench and straightened out her kimono. "Don't stay up too late, Gwen. I want you and Ben to try out some new dishes for Breakfast that I'll be making," Yukiko giggled.
Gwen flinched at the thought of any new type of food Yukiko was planning to cook. Maybe she could convince Grandpa to eat her plate...or she'll just force it down Ben's throat. Either one would be fine for her.
After The Krakken
"Do you have any siblings, Gwen?" Yukiko asked. She and Gwen stood near a game store while eating their own ice-cream cones. Max had given Yukiko some money for the kids to treat themselves. The girls chose to get some ice-cream while Ben ran inside of the game store to see if he could buy something.
"I do have an older brother named Ken," Gwen answered.
Yukiko paused in her eating. She looked down at Gwen with a blank expression, something that confused the younger one. "W-What's wrong?"
"PFFT-"
"Oh…"
"Y-Y-Your name is Gwen, his is Ben, and your brother is Ken...HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" Yukiko burst into a fit of laughter. Her laughing fit drew the attention of the passerby, much to Gwen's embarrassment.
"It-It isn't that funny…"Gwen blushed. She had long since recognized the fact that their names rhymed, which was something relatives would always tease them about. Ben nor Ken cared much about it, but it was something that bothered her.
"S-sorry, it's just funny how coincidental your names are. Makes me think that if Ben was born a girl he'd be named 'Jen'-PFFT!" Yukiko tried to prevent another laughing fit from spawning. "S-so, why isn't your brother with us?"
"Oh, Mother had him go on some college tours this summer. I was actually going to go to a very prestigious school this summer, but my Dad convinced mother otherwise," Gwen explained her brother's absence.
"Huh, wish I could've met him," Yukiko was excited to meet more of her family. Too bad he wouldn't be with them this summer.
"I'm sure you two would've gotten along. He wasn't really fond of the idea of being stuck on tours all summer," Gwen sighed. Her mind had gone back to her conversation with Yukiko a couple of days ago.
"I don't think anyone would, unless it was their own idea," Yukiko said.
"Hmm…" Gwen was conflicted if she would like the idea of repeated tours for all of summer. She would love to be on a tour to see a prestigious school, but for all of summer? She wasn't sure how she'd react.
The doors of the game store opened up and Ben walked out sighing. His hands shoved into his pockets, while he continued to sigh loudly the closer he got to them.
Gwen rolled her eyes, knowing that Ben wanted their attention. "Did you find your game, doofus?" She asked, irritation evident in her voice.
"Did you find your brain, geek?" Ben glared at her. They got into each other's faces, ready for an argument.
"Ok ok! No fighting," Yukiko broke them up before they could start fighting. "Did you find what you wanted, Ben?"
"Nope! Nothing that I haven't already played or have, a waste of a trip," He complained.
WEEEEEEEEEE
The Tennyson kids turned around to see two cars speeding down the street with multiple police cars chasing after them. Ben smirked and activated the watch. "Ok, maybe it wasn't a complete waste. It's Hero Time!" He turned into XLR8 and waited for Yukiko to get ready.
Yukiko shook her head and pulled out her fan, ready to follow her cousin. She turned back to Gwen. "Call Grandpa and keep back from the danger zone," Yukiko hopped onto his back and they were gone.
Gwen frowned as she dialed her Grandfather's number. She felt useless whenever her cousins went to fight crime, as if she was just in the way. Even her Grandpa kept doing more than her. "Wish I could be more helpful," Gwen sighed.
Chapter End
NOTE: You can kinda think of these as Social Links, but they aren't entirely too like them. Yukiko will have chapters like this with Gwen and Max(Eventually). I decided she won't have them with Ben, because all of his development comes from the episodes themselves. Ben's Social Link is basically all 4 seasons + movie.
