chapter 3: a new family
Jason's P.O.V
I literally had no idea that Sophie could out run Lupa but seeing as Sophie past her in seconds. So when I caught up to Sophie, she was coughing and had tears running, no streaming, down her cheeks. I know something was wrong just from how pale she was. I don't know what came over me but I ended up pulling her into my chest and just let her get it all out of her system.
It was than that I notice how small she was. Sophie felt like she was skin and bones, as her shoulders shook with the force of her sobs. I could only watch, unsure what to do, as she was crying. I don't know but from the look of it she hadn't cried in a very long time. After a few minutes she quiet down and the shaking stopped, I how ever kept my hold around her as a way to prove some shelter and comfort.
However when she almost fell to her knees I gentle scooped her up into my arms like I would do with Piper and carried her the mile and a half back to the house. Hazel, Piper, Rayne and Calypso gathered around us with towels and dry clothes. Heck I hadn't even notice it was raining until I got back into the house. Sophie though was soaking wet and from the sound of it she wasn't breath all that while.
"Hey Pipes how is she?" I asked coming into the guest room we had set up should something bad happen to one of our friends their children would have a home for a short period of time. Me and Piper both being demigods thought it would be better if we didn't have kids of our own for fear that they might lose one or both of us. We foster children, and we have tried to adopt several times but it never went through.
"Not too good. Sophie has a really high fever and she keeps coughing." Piper said dabbing at her forehead with a cool clothe.
"While everyone went home and until Rayne hears from her Dad there isn't much we can do. If we don't hear from him by tomorrow night than I'll take her to the ER." I said laying the ice pack I had brought up from down stairs on Sophie's forehead so that it might help bring down her fever. It was than that Piper throw it back at me.
"Jason, no if we don't hear anything by morning we are taking her to the ER. A fever this high is not something to take lightly, Sophie can die if not treated correctly. She has been running while it's raining. Fighting off hell hounds, and most of all claimed in a single night. If Sophie doesn't get treated for the fever it could turn in to something very bad. If she was our child than I would say we take her to the ER right now, but Sophie's not ours and until we hear something all we can do is stay with her and hope she pulls through tonight." my wife said confirming my worst fears. Sophie was in critical condition and we did not know if she would make it through the night.
Me and Piper ended up taking shifts to watch over Sophie, while the other was given a few hours of sleep, as she fought for her life. I prayed to every god I known that might be able to help her but like always they did nothing happened. By sun rise the next morning Rayne was knocking at our front door and she looked ready to kill someone. The first thing she did was throws a pack of paper into my hands, and than made her way up to the room where Piper and Sophie were. I followed reading through the papers Rayne had given me.
"Piper how is Sophie doing?" I heard Rayne asked from the door way. I was still reading the adoption papers that the judge had already signed.
"Sophie is doing better than last night but she is not out of the woods yet. Any word from her dad?" Piper said dabbing at Sophie's forehead with a clean cloth.
"About that her dad is gone the police went to the house and no one was there, and to make matter's worst all of his belongings have gone missing. So by law Sophie was abandoned by her father for the fifth time in her life, and the judge wants you two to Adopt her. Sophie has been past through so many foster home you would not believe it. That and you have already been approved to Adopt and foster children." Rayne said running her hand through her already messy hair. From the look of it we were not the only one that had been up all night worrying about Sophie's welfare. I picked up the pen that Piper had left on the desk and sign my name before handing them to my wife who also signed.
I start to gather up items that we would need when we take her to the ER. Rayne had made a copy of the documents so we just had to signed them again. I had already gotten the car started and was just putting the duffle of things in the car when my Phone started ringing, it was Piper. I rushed inside and up the stairs trying to get to my girls, when I got to the room I saw that Sophie was awake and some what confused of what was going on.
"Sophie sweetie, it's okay. We are going to take you to the hospital so that you can feel better." Piper said taking Sophie's hand into hers. I could just see a small almost invisible nod. I reach forward and help her sit up before wrapping another blanket around her thin shoulders. I slowly and gentle lift the small child up for a second time in the last 12 hours.
It was hard because every time Sophie started coughing I wanted to stop as not to hurt her, however by doing so I was hurting her more by wasting time that could be used to save her life. So in no time flat I had her in the front seat leaning back with Piper in the back, and we were on our way to the hospital.
When we got there, it surprised me to see a bunch of staff waiting for us, but than I saw Will and know what had happened, Rayne was working all night at home, and had let her husband know what was going on. For the first hour and half I was waiting for news on Sophie, but when Will came out and smiled I know that our little girl was going to be alright. Piper had gone home to take a shower and get to the flower shop. I on the other hand had the day off seeing as it was still summer break and classes had yet to start back up.
"While Sophie is a fighter, but we have to keep her here for a few days until she can breath again on her own. Jason I can tell you this your little girl she tough but at the same time very weak. Oh Sophie also was asking for you if you want to follow me I can take you to her." Will said patting me on the shoulder. I follow Will up to the third floor and into the ICU fourth door on the left, there Sophie was leaning on the raised head of her hospital bed. She had wires coming from everywhere, but she was awake and smiling slightly at me.
"Hey there sweetie how are you feeling now that the doctors have given you some medicine." I said pushing her wet bangs out of her eyes.
"Where's my dad?" she asked through hash breathing. I had hoped she wouldn't have asked that question because I did not know how to tell her that her dad had up and left her again.
"While Sophie sweetie, he left you again, but Rayne got it so that now you are mine and Piper daughter. How does that sound?" I said taking her hand and giving it a light squeeze.
"You won't leave me will you?" she asked tears springing up in the corners of her storm blue eyes.
"Never baby girl. Me and your mom would never do that to you. Now why don't you rest for a bit okay, I have to talk with Doctor Solace out in the hall for a few minutes I'll be standing by the window so that you can see me." I said before kissing the top of her head.
"Okay daddy." Sophie said just as I was walking out of the room she was in. I made sure that I kept my word and stood right by the window so she could see me.
"Will, I know her immune system is far too weak right now but could you set up a meeting with a therapist for when Sophie is better or even now. I just think that after being abandoned a fifth time is too much for her to take, also she was a victim of bullying and you know how I am about that." I said watching as my little girl slept.
"Rayne and Luca both said that. You should of seen Luca last night he was beating himself up for causing this whole mess." Will said laughing lightly knowing fully well what Luca can be like when he's beating him self up.
"Another thing Jason, Sophie is far too under weight. I know she can run a 10k marathons every evening but I must instead that she not do it anymore. The record I received from England shows that Sophie even back when she was eight was massively under weight but several of the foster families made her think that she was over weight by using fun house mirrors to trick her. I traces her files back to before Leo had her and I can tell you this there is only one time that Sophie is in her weight group and that is when she was living with Leo and his wife." Will said, so it wasn't just me that notice that she was almost skin and bones. The doctors had notice too, and if Will is saying something than it had to be a massive problem.
"I also got an IM from Clarisse and Chris saying they are taking the first plan from New York and coming here. Their twins are going to be staying with Percy and Annabeth, who are also worried." Will informed me. It was also good to know that so many people care about Sophie, it will help make the healing processive move along just a little bit faster.
"Thank you Dr. Solace for all you have done for me and my family." I said shaking his hand before going back into my little girl's hospital room. Her breathing was still bad but her color had improve a very tiny bit. I was looking over a book about two hours after we had gotten her to the hospital before she woke up again.
"Hey there sleepy head how are you feeling?" I asked, gently touching her check.
"Stuffy, and really warm." she said.
"while that's to be expected seeing as you pushed your self far to much last night. So now all you have to do is take your medicine and rest okay baby girl?" I said taking her hand.
"Yes daddy. Where's mommy?" she said looking around the room. I know she would be wondering where Piper was so I had her send me a recording for when Sophie woke. I pulled out my phone and pressed play.
"Hi baby girl. I'm sorry that I can't be there for you but mommy had to work at the flower shop, but I will be there later today okay? So be a good girl for you daddy and rest up. Mommy love you sweetie." the recording played.
However Sophie was already asleep when it ended, the raspy breathing was the only clue I had that she was out. All Sophie could do was sleep with how weak her immune system was, I wasn't expecting much. A nurse would come in every few hours to check on her, what worried me was that the nurse was hitting on me more than taking care of my daughter.
"Sir do you have plan tonight." she asked, rubbing up on me. I was about to push her away when Sophie stopped breathing, yet she did nothing.
If Will hadn't rushed in and started mouth to mouth I might of last my daughter only after one day. I turned on the female nurse, anger that she put a young 14 year old girl's life on the line just to get me in bed.
"Listen here, your job is taking care of patients but instead you're in here hitting on a very faithful married man. You just put my 14 year old daughter's life on the line so you could score a date." I yelled at her, once I know that Sophie would be alright. I would of said more but a small thin hand stopped me. I turned to my daughter, while Will deals with the nurse.
"Hey there princess, how do you feel?" I asked pushing her bangs back.
"Daddy please no more yelling?" Sophie pretty much begs. I know that she had been bullied and the homes she lived in starved her, but could it have been more than just lack of food.
"Sure thing Princess. Oh that reminds me, I got you something earlier but you were sleeping so peaceful I just didn't want to awake you." I said pulling out the small white lamb, I had picked up in the gift shop.
"Thank you Daddy." Sophie said with a weak smile on her face. Snuggling the lamb to her chest, I notice that her hold was very weakly in her skinny arms.
"Daddy when will mommy be here?" Sophie asked taking a raspy breath. Just than another nurse came in, with Piper, Clarisse, and Chris. I turn to look at my little girl, who had a weak smile before giving a wide yawn.
"Hey there baby girl, how do feel?" Piper asked pushing her bangs out of her eyes.
"Stuffy and really warm and tried." Sophie said before giving yet another yawn.
"Well that is to be expected. Mommy sorry she couldn't be here when you first woke up sweetie." Piper said, squeezing her small hand.
"It's okay mommy daddy stayed with me while I slept." Sophie said with the biggest smile I had seen on her face so far. I turn to Chris and Clarisse and a pair of twins.
"Sophie." The twins said at the same time.
"Hey Annie and Katie." Sophie said looking at them, before she fell asleep again. The girls give a sigh of relief. I stood up and look at Piper.
"Go on Jason, I'll stay with our little girl." Piper said taking the seat I had just gotten up from.
"You girls want to join me?" I asked looking at them after putting my jacket on.
"You girls go help Jason gather up Sophie's belonging." Clarisse said, putting a hand on each girl's shoulder. The twins followed with out a word. So far I had only heard them say one word, our first stopped was Rayne's house to pick up Luca. Which didn't take long seeing as Luca has a habit of running all the way to Will's office to drop off lunch, spear clothes, or even notes.
"Luca hurry up, Jason is waiting." Rayne said going half way up the stairs. If I wasn't used to Luca almost jump all the way down the stairs, than like the twins I would be shocked.
"Luca, let's go." I said picking up me keys from where I had put them.
"I'll have him home by nine Rayne." I said counting the kids as they past me to the car. Luca got in the back with, Annie and Katie was up front with me. They still had yet to say another word, but when I pulled into the drive way, I was surprise to see Nico was arresting Sophie's real dad. Just from the look on Nico's face said that he wanted to kill this man. I had been expecting for one of the twins to punch the bastard, but it was Luca that did it.
"She was your child and you didn't even care that her life was on the line. Sophie, is an amazing person; who is ten times the person you are." Luca said picking up the keys I found in Sophie's duffle bag.
"You three go on ahead. I need to have a word with officer Di Angelo." I said pushing the twins a head of me.
"Which court is he been tried in?" I asked once Nico roughful put the man in the back seat of the police cruiser.
"Federal, Sophie has been put in her father's care five times in her fourteen years, and ever time he ups and leaves her." Nico said getting behind the wheel.
"Drive safety, Nico." I called as he drove off. I felt no need to rush, so I slowly made my way to where the three teens were packing up Sophie's thing.
"Hey Jason what about Sophie's swing?" Luca asked sticking his head out of the room. The teens had gotten pretty far in such a small period of time.
"When Sophie stays with that man she hardly ever unpack her things. The most she does unpack is her clothes and swing. Everything else is that man's doing." the twin with glasses on said.
"Luca help me get the swing down. Girls can you pack everything up?" I said moving to pull out the tools in Sophie's closet. Right away the girls started packing up everything and putting them into their boxes. One of the girls put a box with the word SWING in big and very pretty handwriting.
"All done." I said wiping my hands on a paper towel. I saw that the girls had already finished putting everything away. I looked over the room and noticed that most of the furniture was held together with super glue.
"They allowed him to put Sophie in this space. It's not even a room." I said looking at the poor room Luca and myself our heads touched the ceiling. I know for a fact that Sophie was the same height as Luca. I wanted to punch her father, he put my little girl in harm's way.
"Jason are you, okay?" Annalise asked looking at me.
"I will be fine, now let's get this stuff to Sophie new room. I figured that you girls know how Sophie likes her room to be. " I said smiling at the twins. I saw the girl's faces light up, before they nodded their heads.
"You know if, all we need is some duck tape and some blank paper. We know what Sophie likes. Also we will need Luca to hang up the swing, and her knitting corner." Katherine said, picking up one of the boxes while her sister picked up her own box. Luca picked up the box with the swing in it. I on the other hand held open the door for the three teens.
This afternoon Will had taking Sophie off of oxygen and we were all surprised that Sophie was breathing perfectly fine. They did an x ray to see that there was any water in her lungs at all. It was than that Will did a test on Sophie's lungs to find out that she suffered from asthma, it was never in her medical records. Which explains why she was having such a hard time breathing. Will also said that if Sophie could breath come morning than she would be able to go home. When I told Piper this she was so happy than she almost cried. But because Sophie was too weak at that point for her to go home, all she could do was sleep and rest.
I was mainly on autopilot till we were in Sophie's new bed room, last night while Piper was watching Sophie, I started cleaning out my office, so that Sophie was closer to me and my wife.
"Okay Mr. Grace when is Sophie coming home and do you have any paint?" Annalise asked holding up some stencils to the walls.
"Hopefully tomorrow, and I think we have white paint." I said handing her some painter tape to put stencil on the wall. While the girls and Luca got started on putting Sophie's room together. I found a thing of yellow paint, but seeing as the walls were already yellow I didn't think it would work.
" Hey one of you three want to come with me to get some paint. I only have yellow paint from when me and Piper painted this room." I said coming into my new daughter's room.
"Yeah I'll go with you." Annalise said before unpacking the rest of Sophie's clothes.
"Will you two be alright here for a few minutes?" I ask the two remaining teenagers.
"Yeah Jason. If anything happens I can call my aunt." Luca said putting Sophie's books on the bookshelves around the desk. I could see the desk in total disarray, with notebooks and binders all over it.
"OK." I said before turning on my heels and headed back down stairs. Annalise was waiting at the door on her phone.
"Sophie is asking where we are." She said while I locked up the house.
"Don't tell her. I want this to be a surprise for her." I said pulling the garage door open, so we could get into the car. Annalise was still on her phone texting again.
"I just sent my parents a text saying that we might be late to tea time because we are helping set up Sophie's new room. I got to ask would you mind if we got black paint." Annalise said looking up from her phone. I nodded my head thinking that the black on yellow would be a nice combination.
"That not a problem with me. I think the black paint would be a nice combination. Also how do I tell you and your sister apart." I said.
"While Katherine has glasses and I don't." Annalise said pulling her hair back into a ponytail.
"Thank you Annalise. Now black paint and 2×4 so that we can enforce the ceiling were we are putting her swing. Is there anything else that we need to get?" I said pulling into the hardware store parking lot.
"We might as well get lumber and create the same layout as our home back in London." Annalise said before showing me a picture of Sophie's room. I was impressed with the layout, the bed was on a platform with storage built into it. The desk across from it. The wall behind the bed was done in silver and black swirls. While the wall was black with silver swirls. The rest of the room was painted a soft gray with silver accents.
"We did that for Sophie's 11th birthday. The color we used was silver because of the simple nature. Our dad built the platform and we painted the walls. Our mum did the swirls, and I put the details together and Katie helped dad put the bed together." Annalise said pulling a list out of her pocket. It was a list of items that we needed.
"Okay so we need lumber, silver and gray paint." I said heading towards the paint section.
"Hey Jason do you mind if I pick out the paint colors. To tell you the truth Sophie hates these colors, when we painted her room at our house in London no one knew her favorite color, it was our last year of primary school and for so long Sophie never complain, she only said anything when answering a question." Annalise said, looking through the different colors, I say her searching for a complimentary color. The paint colors in her hands considered of reds oranges yellows and brown.
I was impressed with the color scheme Annalise had picked out, and it kinda fit Sophie's personality perfectly. In all it took about half an hour to get everything needed for my little girl's room. Now putting it together was a totally different story, but luckily for me; I know someone that is amazing with a hammer. However he never picked up his phone, but when I got back up to Sophie's room I was so not expecting to see the walls painted, and the platform almost finished.
"Wow, reminded me who are your parents?" I ask the girls.
"We don't know who are our real parents, they left us with mum and dad. "Katherine said putting the last screw in to place.
"Now all we have to do is paint it and tomorrow before Sophie comes home we will make the bed. " Annalise said before getting down to work, on painting the platform. I could see why Sophie was so close to Annalise and Kathrine, they didn't judge people with out getting to know them.
I also saw that the girls had similar habits as Sophie, but that never stopped me from thinking about the life they had with Chris and Clarisse, they may not be their real parents but it was better than nothing. At lease they had someone that cared about them. I swear that they were the fastest working duo that I had ever meet, I had left the room just long enough to take a call from Piper, and when I came back into the room everything was done.
"Wow."Luca said coming into the room carrying a plate of sandwiches, I had to agree with him those two were amazing but what made it all the better was the smile on their faces, even Luca had a small smile that I haven't seen since he was a young child. After his mother's death Luca lived at camp Jupiter for a time before he went to live with Rayne and Will. At the time it was more important that he was safe and health but seeing as both his aunt and uncle worked long hours he was often at our house until Luca couldn't take anymore and finally had the pending melt down. After that Rayne and Will both cut back on their hours.
"We have to wait until it's dry before putting on the finishing touches. After that we can put the bed into place and than me and Katie will make the bed tomorrow morning." Annalise said taking a sandwich and biting into it. I was surprised that they didn't spit them back up seeing as Luca is a horrible cook.
"Do I need to call poison control?" I asked after ten minutes.
"Our mom isn't the best cook, heck most nights it's Sophie that does the cooking and man can she make an amazing Lamb." Kathrine said washing down the horrible food with a bottle of water. I was surprised that my little girl was a better cook than her mother. I myself am not that bad of a cook but when I nearly burnt the house down Piper said no more. It was around this time that I notice it was getting very late and that the girls and Luca had put the matrices up onto the platform before making the bed in cream color sheets and an ember red cover. All I could feel now in this room was warmth and comfort.
"Okay everyone to the car got to get everyone home before much later." I said grabbing my keys for the hallway table. It didn't take me that long to drop everyone off before heading to the hospital to pick up my lovely wife, and tomorrow we will be bring our little girl home. Thinking it would just be me and Piper on the way home I opted to putting the roof down, however when I got to the hospital Will was helping Sophie to put on her sneakers. It looks like no one told me that Sophie was coming home tonight. Or that was before I notice Percy standing in the corner with Nico next to him.
"Okay what's going on? Will you said tomorrow at the earliest? Nico why are you here? You never come to Hospital not even when you badly injured? And you Percy I though you and Annabeth lived in Long island?" I asked rapidly crossing my arms in front of me. It was than that Sophie started to giggle uncontrollably now that sound I would love to hear every second of the day.
"It appears that Sophie has stronger lungs than anyone though. It was Clarisse that pointed out what I though to be something dangerous was actually equipment that needed proper cleaning. Sure that still means no marathons I give you the go ahead. Now one last thing to take care of before I release your daughter." Will said helping Sophie to stand, I could tell from where I was standing she wasn't putting weight on her right ankle.
"So Nico Percy either of you want to explain why you both are here?" I asked turning to the other children of the big three. They ended up playing rock, paper scissors which Nico lost.
"Okay, so Sophie's real father hung himself this evening after finding out from his lawyer would not be able to pull any strings to get him out trouble this time, nor get it so that in a year's time he could take Sophie back." Nico said the look of anger in his eyes was enough to convince me. I turned towards Percy trying to find out why he was here.
"Annabeth wanted me to give this you Sophie it was your uncles first weapon from his childhood. When I told her that Luke had a niece she literally started digging through our attic, trying to find this." Percy said handing the thin single edge blade to my daughter. I couldn't make head or tails of what was written on the hilt of the sword.
"My great uncle calls me this for most of my life. Now I understand why, it was uncle Luke's nickname for me." Sophie said holding the sword to her chest.
"And what is that sweetie?" Piper asked placing her hand on our daughter's shoulder.
"My rose." Sophie said pushing a bit of her chopped off hair behind her ear. I stood behind her next to her mother and looked at the blade my little girl was holding. Engraved around the handle, was a beautiful rose with vines warping all the way down to the tip of the sword.
I took the sword into my hand but it was to light for me, than I placed it in Sophie's hands and than guided her to a fighting stance. I could see that the blade was perfect in her small hands light but still strong.
"It's perfect for you Sophie. Swift but gentle, light but strong." I said picking my little girl up into my arms. She squalled in joy and surprised. I felt her place her head onto my shoulder, it still worried me that my fourteen year old daughter was light enough for me to be able to picked her up.
"While I have to say that Sophie sounds perfectly fine. Okay simple rules, Sophie no running, until I say so. Also into you are up to average weight for a fourteen year old female you are going to be taking these protein shakes, I have also given your mother the prescription for your inhaler. Now the protein shakes are to be taken with breakfast and dinner. I will see you in month to see how much weight you have been able to put on." Will said looking more me and Piper than the sleeping fourteen year old in my arms.
"Thanks Dr. Solace for everything you have done." I said sign the release papers, with my daughter still in my arms. It was easy for me to carry Sophie to the car although the nurses kept asking me if I would like a wheel chair for my little girl. Finally Piper charmed them into leaving us alone.
"So were you and the kids able to get Sophie's room together?" Piper asked sitting up front next to me. I had just turned on some Jazz music hoping the soothing music would help to keep Sophie asleep.
"Yes, and it will fit our little girl perfectly bright and warm." I said looking in the back mirror at the sleeping fourteen year old. After that the ride home was quite with only the soothing sounds of Jazz playing lightly, helping time to speed up. Before I even know it I was pulling into our drive way thinking only about putting Sophie to bed and getting some sleep myself. But that plan changed the minute I notice the sharp blue eyes staring at me. I reach for my coin on to see Hazel standing next to the man.
"Hazel what is going on and who is he?" I asked my friend from in front of my car. Sophie sleeping peacefully in my arm, while the other one had my coin ready to fight if need be.
"Jason this is Sophie's uncle Luke he wanted to see her once." Hazel said standing in between the two of us. The man step forward and I could see the worried look in his deep blue eyes. The same eyes as my little girl. I could tell just from looking at him that he was alive, but something was holding him back from holding his niece.
"How about you both come in and have a bit of coffee while talk." Piper said charm speaking both me and Luke down.
"You took Orpheus walk correct?" Piper asked leading Luke and Hazel to the kitchen while I took Sophie up to her room. Pulling her covers back I gentle laid the sleeping teen before tucking her in. I kissed the top of her head before heading back downstairs, but first turning on the baby monitor in case Sophie needed us.
"Okay Sophie is in bed and passed out, I don't blame the girl after the day she's had." I said sitting down next to my wife across from Sophie's uncle. I don't know why but he looked like he doesn't want to be here right now.
"So Luke you walked behind, Percy so that your niece could have her uncle in her life. Even if it's just through phone calls or letters." Piper said pretty much answering all of my questions. I sometimes worry when my wife dose that.
"Yes, it was the one condition I had to the deal. After this I am heading to camp half blood to help train new heroes. Hopefully I can make up for all the mistakes I made even if I never get to see my little rose than so be it." Luke said, looking at his hands.
"Sophie will not stand for that. She has this habit of never giving up. Did you know that you niece weighs about 70 lbs. And she can run a 10K in three hours." I said sitting back in my seat also keeping an eye on the set of baby blues at the top of the stairs.
"I also know that she should be sleeping right now." I said moving to get up when she literally came flying down the stairs tears running down her cheeks. I caught her with easy after all I am use to catching Luca.
"I guess that means that you're not tried?" I asked sitting down with her curled up in my lap, I used to watch Luca when he was younger he often did the same thing. Sophie was just sitting there I don't understand why she would be doing that but than I notice that her eyes were closed and her breathing even. I try to pry her hand off of my shirt but her grip was to strong, or that was until Luke came over and gentle release Sophie's grip before picking her up and carrying her back to his seat.
"You know Luke, Sophie's great uncle raised her. I believe that was your father Mercy sorry I meant to say Hermes. I'm roman while my wife and daughter are both Greek." I said rubbing the back of my head.
"She has the same eyes as you, but other kids have made fun of her for sometime because of her eyes. When Luca a friend of Sophie said her eyes where beautiful she might of freaked out on him before running away last night. If it hadn't been for Jason going after her she might be in worst condition that she currently is." Piper said, taking my hand. The way Luke was holding Sophie shouted that this was not the first time he had held her.
"I held her before the final battle Kronos gave me enough time to hold my baby niece once." Luke said than it dong on me this was the second time in all of Sophie's life that her uncle was able to hold her. Fourteen years, and she was stronger than anyone had every thought she would be. I could see the pride in his eyes, and also the sadness.
"Luke why don't you stay here for the week before going to long island, and get to know your niece." Piper suggest which actually was a good idea, not that I would every go against my wife out of fear of what could do to me. I shudder at the though, of what my wife could do.
"I am sorry but I can't do that. I promise Percy that I would be there tonight but most of all I can't have contact with Sophie. Sure I can call on her birthday and holidays but nothing more. All I ask that you give her the childhood she was never allowed to have?" Luke said handing her back to me. He than pulled out a small box, and placed it into Sophie's hand before kissing her forehead one last time before walking out the front door.
"Happy 15th birthday, my little rose." I heard Luke whisper after kissing Sophie's forehead. I turned to Hazel but she had the same sad look in her eyes as Luke had.
"Luke never made a promise to Percy, however he is worried that Sophie might reject him. I don't think he could handle having his only living relative hate him." Hazel said before leaving after Luke. I could understand what he was feeling but when me and Thalia had reconnected it was the joy that lite up my sister's face that made it all the better. I shifted Sophie around so that I could carry her back up stairs and into her bedroom. This time I remember to turn on the night light by the desk so that Sophie wouldn't be scared. I actually clawed in next to my little girl until almost fell asleep my self.
"Goodnight baby girl pleasant dreams." I said before kissing her forehead. What got me was the fact that I heard her soft reply.
"Goodnight daddy, I love you." Almost like she was talking in her sleep. I softly closed her bedroom door before going into the room I share with not only my wife but my best friend.
"Sophie is our miracle. Now if only others could see that."I said changing into my pj's, before clawing in next to my wife.
"She said I love you, just now. She is something that no one should of ever hurt. I was glad that Leo had also seen the pearl under the coal.
"That is a good thing. Good night dear I love you." Piper said curling into my side.
"Goodnight Piper, I love you too." I said before closing my eyes and getting a goodnight sleep to make up for the last 24 hours.
