Zeke threw a huge rock at the building where his brother and nephew had just been at. The building started to crumble, and there was no sight of either Eren or the baby.
Levi's heart sank with the familiar feeling of dread as the seconds passed and he didn't spot either of them. Where were they? Eren had ran away with Leo, so maybe that was why? But he didn't have his gear, so he couldn't have gotten that far.
"You have to understand Levi, I had no choice. My brother wouldn't have done my bidding. I had to kill him so he wouldn't stop me. I guess I'll have to save this world by myself," the bitch had the audacity to look remorseful, like he hadn't just purposefully aimed a bunch of rocks at his own brother and nephew, Levi's only family, with the intent to kill them. Levi blinked furiously, trying to keep the tears at bay. They were not dead. They couldn't be.
Zeke looked disappointed, and he turned his head away from Levi. As if he weren't a threat anymore. As if he weren't nothing now that Eren and Leo were-
No. They weren't dead. And if anything had happened to any of them, the bearded bitch would pay in blood.
"If either of them are hurt… if Eren or my son are dead… you will die tonight. I'll make sure of it," not sparing a second glance at Zeke, Levi turns around and goes back the way he came from.
There was smoke everywhere, and Levi tried to make anything out of the vague shapes he could see as he swung with his maneuver gear. He landed near the building Zeke had just destroyed, frantically looking around for any sing of his family. After waving his arms around to clear some of the smoke, he finally caught sight of Eren's brown hair, but the sight made his heart stop.
Eren was sprawled on the ground, holding their baby tight to his chest in a protective matter. Pieces of titan crystal surrounded them, making Levi believe Eren had managed to shield himself and Leo from the rubble. He rushed over to them.
Eren, who was not unconscious as Levi thought he was, noticed him and managed a small smile. "We're fine, Levi," he sat up, making sure their baby wasn't squished too much. Said baby started crying, most likely from all the explosions around him. Honestly, Levi was surprised it had taken that long for Leo to start bawling, but then again he had always been a quiet child.
He hurried over to Eren's side, taking the baby from him as gently as he could with his still trembling hands.
"It's alright now, Leo. It's alright, daddy's here," he started rocking his son in his arms, gradually calming his cries until he was asleep with his head on Levi's shoulders.
He distantly new Zeke must have heard Leo's crying, and was most definitely on his way there, but he was too focused on his family to really care. He could take care of that problem when the bitch got there.
"Levi, are you forgetting about me? I could also use a bit of help," Eren asked with a chuckle, holding his arm out to him. Levi let out an amused huff before pulling his husband up. He checked him over, needing to make sure nothing had really happened to him and that Eren wasn't lying to make him feel better as he tried to heal his injuries before Levi noticed.
"Don't you ever scare me like that again! I've already lost too much family, I can't lose you too," Eren's eyes widened, before they softened again, a gentle smile forming on his lips.
"I'll be more careful, Levi. I'm sorry I made you worry," he caressed Levi's cheek lovingly with his hand.
They were interrupted by Zeke, who had finally caught up to them.
"It seems you made it, after all," he didn't look all that concerned, like it didn't matter to him if Eren and Leo were dead or not. "Eren, why won't you understand? Our father was corrupted, and in turn he has corrupted you. I don't want you putting those filthy thoughts inside my nephews head, just like our father did to you. Let me take him with me and I will show him the way of life," the lunatic looked so convinced, like Eren and Levi would just let him take their baby after trying to kill them. He was a fanatic, that much was clear.
"What path? Slaughtering people for a belief that wasn't even yours to begin with?" Eren scoffed, standing in front of Levi, who was still holding their baby in his arms. "I will never let you take our son away from us!"
Levi noticed Eren was getting angry, and knew he was mere moments from shifting into his titan. He grabbed his husband by the arm, pulling him only hard enough for him to look at Levi and their baby.
"Calm the fuck down, Eren. We need a plan before you turn into a titan. We can't just fight him like this, we would put our son in danger," Eren bit his lip, then nodded. Levi was right, after all, and the last thing Eren wanted was to hurt either Levi or their child. Levi sighed, relieved that his husband had listened to him, and whispered him a half cooked plan that could either get them all killed or give them enough time to make it out alive.
"So? What will it be, Eren, Levi? I'll give you this one last warning!" as he said it, Zeke was already forming another handful of rocks to throw at them.
Taking a deep breath, Eren took Leo from Levi's arms, carefully maneuvering him so he would rest on his shoulder and keep resting, hopefully sleeping through the whole debacle until they were far away from his lunatic brother.
"Brother, you don't have to do this. We can talk this out! I know you wouldn't try to kill me, not when I'm holding my baby boy, right?" he tried to sound as innocent as he could, masking the hatred in his eyes with a pleading expression, unconsciously tightening his grip on Leo.
"Don't underestimate me, little brother. If I have to, I will. At least that way he won't have to suffer in this world," he prepared to launch his handful of rocks. "Now, as it looks like you won't be giving him away, you seem to leave me no choice-" he was interrupted by Levi, who had sneaked up from behind, and had just carved deep enough into Zeke's nape to drag the bitch out of his titan. He didn't take him out completely, knowing he didn't have the time and that being forcefully dragged out would be enough to give them time to escape. Zeke wouldn't try anything else without knowing where Eren and Leo were, and Levi had his priorities straight. Killing the bitch could come another day.
"Heh. That's what you get for focusing on Eren instead of the actual threat for your life, you fucking furball," Levi gave him one last look of disgust before using his manouver gear to get to where Eren was still holding a sleeping Leo, grabbing both of them and making a hasty escape home.
When Eren and Levi got home Hange was already there. She was sleeping on the couch, probably falling asleep in the middle of filling paperwork, if the mess in the living room was any indication.
"Shitty glasses can be such a pain in the ass," Levi sighed as he looked at the mess. "I don't have time for this right now. Eren, you go put Leo to bed, I'll wake up Hange and have her help me with this. I'll be up with you soon," Eren looked into his husband tired eyes, and managed a small smile even with all the adrenaline leaving his body at last, making him a bit sloppy.
"I'll ran a bath for us upstairs so we can bath together before bed. Don't take to long with her," Eren kissed Levi's cheek, adjusting his hold on their baby as he pulled apart. It was impressive how Leo had stayed asleep for the whole of the confrontation, but then again, the baby had always been a deep sleeper like Eren, who could sleep through a literal bombing if no one woke him up, so maybe it wasn't that surprising.
Sighing once more, Levi turned to Hange, pinching his nose at the sight of the messy living room.
"Shitty glasses, wake up right fuck now! You're cleaning this fucking mess or so help me Rose I'll break something," he was shaking her awake, and after a few more threats Hange opened her uncovered eye, looking at him blearily.
"Oh, Levi! You're home. Where's Eren?" Hange sat up and looked around, as if expecting the brunette to appear from under a couch or something.
"He's putting Leo to bed. Come up, move your ass up, you're cleaning up this mess and then you'll tell me what happened with Yelena," Levi nudged her so she would get started, and Hange sighed, suddenly looking ten years older.
"Yeah, I should tell you while Eren's not around to hear anyways. But you look tired. I made you guys dinner, if you want any," Hange sounded sleepy, and her eye was already closing again, leaning against his shoulder as she fell asleep again.
"Oi. Oi, Hange! Wake up, shitty glasses!" he moved her again, but it was futile. She was sound asleep again, and nothing he did would wake her up until morning. He sighed, standing up after carefully moving her head so it would rest against the couch, and covering her with one of the throw blankets Eren insisted were placed in the room. "You'll clean this up tomorrow, shit head," he whispered before leaving her be.
He knew, objectively, that he should wake up Hange and tell her about Zeke's attack, inform her about what happened. But she was obviously exhausted from working so much, and he was dead on his feet. It could wait until tomorrow, where he could inform her about it at headquarters and then she could make the proper arrangements and announcements.
He went to the kitchen to look for that dinner Hange promised, since they hadn't gotten the chance of eating anything before Zeke decided to ruin their night. He stood at the door though, looking at the shape of their kitchen.
"Fuck my life," he whispered, looking horrified. The kitchen was a mess too, only except of files and pens, it was full of flour and eggs everywhere. Just how could one person be so messy?
A pair of arms sneaked around his torso, and he unconsciously relaxed as he smelled Eren's characteristic sent.
"You were taking too long, and Hange is still sleeping," his husband complained in that whiny voice of his, the one that made him want to turn around and put him in his place.
"She won't wake up, she's exhausted. I'll make her clean this up tomorrow, so let's just go take our bath," he said as he turned around, grabbing Eren's chin and making him look down. His husband blushed, turning his head away.
"Don't look at me like that, Levi. I'm tired, we're not doing anything tonight," he warned Levi before he pulled away and all but ran upstairs. 'Levi just smiled a little as he stared at his cute husband. He was so cute sometimes.
