Lucifer arrived at the snow cone stand, with the Detective in tow. Lucifer could tell that she still wasn't very happy with him, but at least she hadn't laughed when he'd said angel wings. She was, however, quite alarmed when he grabbed the clerk by the collar and smashed him into the ground. She tried to stop him, but he didn't listen.
"This isn't how we do things," Chloe said.
"This pathetic sap's real name is Frankie Costa," Lucifer explained. "And his real job is transporting and storing illegal goods." He turned to the Detective and explained where he'd got the lead from. "Maze set up the warehouse through him."
The Detective looked annoyed, but not as upset as he'd assumed she'd be given how she'd been reacting to the revelation of his being the Devil. A casual Devil was one thing, but seeing what he was really capable of might be more than she could handle. Lucifer didn't want to scare her again.
"Focus Frankie," Lucifer said. "Who took my property?"
"I don't know," Frankie said. "I'm trying to find out myself. This is bad for business."
"And who would know about the storage service?" the Detective's voice chimed in. Lucifer couldn't help but smile. She was helping now, instead of trying to pull him away.
"Who are you?" Frankie asked her.
"I'm someone with one of these," Chloe said, showing the guy Lucifer had by the neck her badge. "But this guy doesn't have one. Say if I were to walk away he can do whatever he wants to you, or if you aren't responsible you can point us in the right direction of someone who is."
Frankie gave in after that, and Lucifer couldn't help but be proud of the Detective. She'd really followed his lead instead of trying to hold him back.
At the Detective's behest, Lucifer let Frankie go. Then on a whim decided to treat himself to a snow come.
"That was incredible," Lucifer said as they were walking back to the car. "Musical. Poetic really!" He couldn't believe how great it had felt to be on the same page as Chloe. "We were like fish and chips, salt and pepper."
"If you were normal I'd be arresting you for assault right about now," the Detective said firmly. "But as I know that would never work I am reduced to hoping I can at least prevent you from hurting anyone while working with me."
"I've already told you Detetive," Lucifer said. "I punish the guilty. I don't harm the innocent, can't even. Frankie's a scumbag and we needed information."
"Losing your wings really seems to be affecting you," Chloe said.
"It's really more the principle of the thing," Lucifer explained. "After all, I cut them off because I wanted to be rid of them. I don't really care that they were stolen. The trouble is that if I let people steal from me once, they might do it again."
The Detective looked at him then. A long, calculating look. He could almost see the wheels in her head turning. "You say you always tell the truth," Chloe said slowly. "And I believe you want to, but that doesn't mean you can't lie to yourself."
"I don't know what you mean, Detective," Lucifer said, quite taken aback by her words.
"Those wings mean more to you than you realize," Chloe told him. "I can tell."
"They don't," Lucifer argued. "Why would I cut off wings I wanted, hmm?"
"Why did you keep them all this time if you didn't want them?" Chloe countered.
Lucifer didn't know what to say to that. Instead he got into the car and let her drive him to their next stop. Between Frankie's lead and the imprint forensic found under UV light on the victim's neck, everything pointed to Los Diablos biker gang.
"Now, before we go in, promise you aren't going to do anything stupid," Chloe said.
"I can make no such promise," Lucifer said, as he moved quickly forward and entered the building. Chloe followed behind, muttering under her breath in that way that told him he'd annoyed her again.
Quickly unplugging the junkbox, Lucifer jumped up on the table to address the group.
"Pardon the intrusion you village people rejects," Lucifer said loudly to the crowd. "But one of you has stolen something that belongs to me, so please identify yourself so I can punish you accordingly."
Through no fault of his own, Lucifer now found himself surrounded by an angry mob and one very annoyed looking Detective.
"I thought you weren't invincible anymore," Chloe said through her teeth.
"That's what makes it fun, Detective," Lucifer said without really whispering but clearly directing his remark at Chloe. Even with his new found mortality, a room of thugs didn't scare him. He was still strong and faster than all of them and had fast healing. They didn't even have guns.
A guy singled himself out in the crowd, and Lucifer got down from the table to face him. Lucifer was just about to give him a nice sharp lesson, when the Detective got him in a shoulder lock and pinned him to the ground.
"Everybody back off or you're going to jail," Chloe said with authority.
Their leader appeared then, and the three of them moved the conversation into his back office. Chloe did her cop thing, asking him questions and getting nowhere fast. Lucifer chimed in with his desire mojo which led to the rather strange notion of a biker gang leader wanting to run a clothing line. Still, he felt like they'd gained nothing and this guy knew more than he was saying, but Chloe wanted him to leave, just walk away. Lucifer was torn. He knew he could get the information out of Hank Cutter, but that would mean upsetting the Detective even more, possibly more than she would put up with. Reluctantly, Lucifer followed Chloe out of the building and back to the car.
"But why are we leaving?" Lucifer asked her once they were outside the front doors. "He's hiding something. It's obvious. We need to force it out of him."
"Devil or not if you wanna work with me you are gonna have to follow actual human laws, and this little thing we call due process," Chloe stated with authority. "Your other option is to not work with me at all and go back to whatever the Devil does when he isn't annoying me."
"I need you to help me find my wings," Lucifer said in a small voice. "I don't mean to annoy you so much."
She seemed quite taken aback by his answer. Maybe he'd surprised her.
"There's an easier way to get our guy than by force," Chloe explained as they reached the car. She opened the door and got in. Lucifer did the same and she continued. "You saw the look on his face when Cutter saw that photo. He knows exactly who robbed the docks. He's going to need to deal with this immediately. It's a huge challenge to his authority. He isn't going to want to deal with this in public. I'm betting the first person he goes to see is the owner of that bracelet."
"So let me get this straight," Lucifer said slowly. "Your plan is just to sit here and hope that Cutter leads us to the suspect? What a terrible idea."
"You think so?" Chloe asked, confidently.
"Cutter is no brain surgeon, but surely he wouldn't-" Lucifer's words were cut short by his eyes witnessing the very thing Chloe had predicted.
"Well done, Detective!" Lucifer said with pride.
She started the car and they followed Cutter. They ended up parked a little ways away from a shady looking sort of building near a railway. Cutter was just waiting there alone, his bike parked a few feet away from where he stood. At first, Lucifer kept waiting for something to happen, but it wasn't long before he realized stake outs were even more boring than paperwork.
"This is the longest I've ever sat in a parked car and not had sex," Lucifer said when the boredom had truely started to get to him.
"Ew," was all Chloe had to say to that.
"Do you really enjoy this?" Lucifer asked. It was strange this genuine curiosity he had about how the Detective's mind worked. Strange and wonderful. "Sitting around endlessly waiting for something to happen."
"You know you don't have to be here, right?" Chloe said. "This is my job. You bribed your way into being my consultant for god knows what reason-"
"Please don't bring him into this," Lucifer said, instantly put off by her use of his father's name.
"It's just an expression," Chloe replied. "As I was sa-"
"Well it's an expression I don't like and I'd prefer if you didn't use it," Lucifer said, cutting her off.
"As I was saying," Chloe continued, ignoring his interruption. "If you're bored you don't have to be here." She paused for a moment then added as if realizing something. "Wait, is that why you want to be a police consultant? To try and cure your immortal boredom?"
Rather than reply off hand, Lucifer gave her words real thought. After all, they made sense. Immortality was boring, it's true, but so was sitting in this car, and despite all that he didn't want to leave the car.
"While that does sound like a reasonable explanation, I don't think that's it, no," Lucifer sighed.
"Anyway you don't have to stick around if you don't want to," Chloe said again. "I am sure the Devil has better things to do."
"Again with the telling me to leave!" Lucifer exclaimed, more upset by this than he felt he should be. "Is that what you really want, Detective? For me to leave you alone?"
There it was again. That strange knot in his stomach. Lucifer had never felt anything like this before. His life has been so endless and empty before, but now…
She didn't say anything for a moment then slowly she spoke as if she'd chosen her words carefully. "Actually quite the opposite," the Detective said. "I still don't understand why the Devil wants to work with a nobody like me, and maybe I never will understand, but despite all the insanity I've witnessed these last few weeks I actually like working with you."
And just like that the knot in his stomach disappeared. Lucifer just stared at her, more stunned than he'd been in eons. She wasn't just putting up with him because he'd made a deal with her boss. She liked working with him. With that little didy to play over and over in his head, Lucifer felt like he could wait in his car all day if necessary.
"Wait," Lucifer said, as he realized something. "What do you mean, a nobody like you?"
"Well I'm nothing special," Chloe replied easily. "Just a normal nobody."
"You aren't a nobody to me," Lucifer said simply. "Never have been. Weren't you listening before when I said you were special?"
"Got any proof I'm special?" Chloe asked. "Apart from you not being able to draw out my desires?"
"That alone should be proof enough!" Lucifer said. "I've never met a human who was immune before, and don't forget I'm old, like dawn of time old."
"Ah huh," Chloe replied skeptically.
"What? Still not sold on the whole immortal devil thing, huh?"
"You are crazy strong and were definitely bulletproof for a while there," Chloe admitted. "But that hardly means you are the Devil."
"First you were googling Dante's Inferno, and now we are back to disbelief, huh?" Lucifer sighed. "You are a tough egg to crack, Detective. Tell you what, when we find my wings I'll let you have first look. Shall I?"
Before she could reply, a new player arrived on the scene they were watching. The guy the Detective had so helpfully pinned down back at the biker gang club was now talking to Cutter. Things quickly didn't go well for Cutter however as Renny shot him in the chest. Chloe immediately called for backup and got out of the car to help Cutter, leaving Lucifer alone with the police vehicle.
Getting out and going around to the driver's side, Lucifer didn't waste any time chasing after Renny. This guy knew where his wings were and Lucifer was not going to let Chloe stop him again. The foolish mortal didn't realize he was being followed until after he stopped his bike and Lucifer pulled up right behind him.
Lucifer followed him into a building, but was slowed down hiding from gun fire. Mortality though exciting was very inconvenient at times like these. Once the gun was empty, Lucifer gave chase.
"Been a while since I had a good hunt," Lucifer said. He moved with purpose but didn't run. The mortal would not get away, even if he'd gone at a turtle's pace. Lucifer broke open the barricaded door with ease and found himself on the roof with no escape in sight for Renny.
"Give me what is mine," Lucifer demanded.
"He didn't tell me what was in the container," Renny said. "But I looked. I saw them."
"Who stole them?" Lucifer asked, letting his devil eyes flash to better get his point across.
"They were yours," Renny whispered. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry."
"You are going to be more than sorry unless you tell me everything," Lucifer said, and he let his Devil face out in full.
"No!" Renny yelled then immediately got up and jumped off the building before Lucifer could do more than yell after him.
Looking over the edge of the building, Lucifer saw Renny's body broken on the ground. Then he turned around to see the Detetive staring at him.

Sneak Peek Chapter 6
It turned out however that immortals weren't the most patient of people. Before Chloe had so much as spread some jam on her toast her door opened and Lucifer appeared.
"Good morning, Detective," Lucifer said. "You weren't answering so I thought I'd come check."
"It's eight am," Chloe groaned at him. At least she was dressed for work now, even if he'd interrupted her breakfast. Chloe did not need a repeat of his breaking into her house while she was still in the shower.
"Yes well, no rest for the wicked and all that," Lucifer said absently. "So, leads?" Chloe just glared at him. "Right well, best we get you caffeinated then." He looked around and spotted the half drunk mug of coffee in front of her. "Seems you've got the caffeine well in hand. What else do you need? Food?"
"Time," Chloe said. "Usually I take time in the morning to get ready. Then I go to work."
"Yes well there isn't time for that today, Detective," Lucifer said energetically.
