I think I can give yall one more chapter before I shut this story down for completion. ;)
Four months after the encounter in their home together Mercedes had moved along with the divorce proceedings, rocking Sam's world for the worst. He never wanted this to happen but Mercedes kept on pushing for him to sign the papers every time she came around to grab some more stuff for the house, or to force him but he never would. In the span of that time, he had also found out that the baby that Melanie supposedly had by him, was not his. She had snuck into his house and taken the photo of them but they never had sex. Instead, she used a surrogate by another man who was very identical to Sam and for that he was grateful. However he wasn't able to tell Mercedes because she refused to speak with him if it wasn't about the divorce, and she had blocked him from her phone.
However, today was going to be the day, the house was practically cleared out of everything that the two had worked so hard to get, it was bare. Today was the day that Mercedes would come to the house, like she always, did to get Sam to sign the divorce papers, but he wasn't going to, and he wasn't going to let her leave either. She was going to stay with him until he could do everything possible to withdraw the papers, and come back to him.
Mercedes had used the key to let herself in and stopped and looked around. The home that she and Sam promised to use to raise their children was bare and cold, she couldn't believe all of the marital life they had in this home was gone. She wandered around and felt a swarm of memories of her and her husband together take over her mind. She had made her way to the kitchen and ran her hand over the marble countertop.
"I believe it was you who begged for us to have those countertops, to bring about a sense of elegance in the house," Sam spoke as he came and entered the room.
"I need you to sign the papers Sam," Mercedes sighed ignoring his comment.
"Now the living room, that was the both of us, the carpet, the accent tables, we were going for the mood of marital bliss, which explained why it was considered the brightest room out of all the rooms in the house," Sam replied.
"I don't want to go down memory lane with you Sam, I want for you to sign these damn papers,"
Sam ignored her and grabbed two glasses from the counter and filled them up with wine from the wine fridge, "Now the wine fridge was your favorite thing. I remember you had kept it stocked with all of the wines you could find, and you were proud of it too. You would come home after a long day, we would have dinner and then you would pop open whatever bottle and that would be the night. However, your favorite bottle was the Chateau Cheval Blanc. Which is what I am pouring now. So we can either wander through this big house and reminisce about the good times, or I can just ignore you and these papers."
Mercedes rolled her eyes, and grabbed one of the glasses, and took a large swig, "Fine, but only because I know you won't sign the papers, why are you selling the house, Sam?"
"Don't want to live in it when it has caused my wife some pretty awful memories." He answered truthfully as he took a swig of the drink.
"I am about to be your ex-wife if you would just sign the papers," She reminded him.
"Hmm, then why do you still have the ring on your finger?" Sam smirked. Mercedes looked down at her wedding ring before looking back at Sam with a smug grin on his face.
"I haven't had the heart to take it off yet,"
"But you have the one to divorce me?"
"Checkmate, but since we want to look back at the old memories, remember when we designed the office space."
"How could I forget? We had to put in a whole studio space, on top of two desks and other goods." Sam replied.
Mercedes bit her lip this all feeling fake, "Sam what are we doing?" She whispered.
"I don't know."
"I never would have thought that they would have divorced, I never wanted that for us, the numerous break-ups back in the day where all I could take, I never wanted to take this again. Look, please we can still be friends but I need you to sign the papers. I'll always love you Sam but this is what is best for us."
"Best for us or best for you? We took vows Mercedes for better or for worse, and you are running away at the worse part."
"I am not running away Sam, " she sighed, "I am ending this because I value our friendship, and I value having you on my side, and being in a romantic relationship, a marriage, isn't what is good for us."
"Mercedes I fucking love you, I would never ask you to do this."
"You wouldn't have to, because I wouldn't have done this."
"Oh, so you are saying it is my fault."
"Now you wanna talk about faults," Mercedes said as she grabbed her glass and headed to the bedroom with Sam following her.
"Yes I do, look I know I have my flaws. I am too trusting and too naive, but I have never ever been stupid about it. You knew this when you met me, and you knew this when you said yes to me. So now all of a sudden one lapse of judgment has you running away to the hills. You don't want to at least try to do this with me, to try again, to fix what is broken."
"Sam you fucked another woman in our bed, in this very room. I have lost two of your kids, and both times in the midst of the loss, the blogs and tabloids were posting about you and said the woman. Sam, I did my best and it was not enough, not enough for you, and not enough for this marriage."
"I didn't sleep with her,"
"God, now you want to result to lying when the pictures and interviews are all out there."
"There was a DNA test done a few weeks after you left, and the baby is not mine, she lied about it. The photo was faked she snuck back in the house and took it, and I am sure she probably slipped something my drunk too, but the bottom line is it all a lie."
"What hurts the moment, is that the second kid we loss could have been fucking preventable, the first one I wasn't sure what happened, but the second one Sam, I could have fixed it," Mercedes whispered as she felt a wash of relief come over as she realized the truth.
"I was working so hard on the tour, and I stressed myself out, over the information, and not the baby isn't even yours," She sobbed. Sam went and grabbed her before she could touch the ground, and felt at peace as Mercedes wrapped her arms around her, and felt the tears come from his own face.
"Baby, you don't have to blame yourself, this isn't your fault, none of it, it is all on me."
"But I have been so awful towards you, and you were telling me the truth the whole time."
"I know, I wouldn't have believed me either baby, but you have to believe me that I love you, and I am not going anywhere, Mercedes. I want you and I want us." Before Mercedes could answer the doorbell rang, and Sam was going to get it but Mercedes assured him that she could and that they would finish talking when she got back. When she reached the door she opened it and there was Melanie.
"Oh, you have got to be fucking kidding me?" Mercedes said her voice sounding off with hatred.
"Mercedes look, I have had my child and Sam needs to be with me to help out with it," Melanie sighed.
"Oh, he well you know I have decided that I am not going to divorce Sam, so you are going to have to deal with the both of us," Mercedes replied testing to see if the girl was going to come clean.
"You know what fine, keep him but just know while he is laying down with you he will be thinking of me." Melanie hissed. Mercedes let out a small chuckle and grabbed the bat that she kept by the door in the event of intruders. She flipped it around in her hand a couple of times to warm herself up.
"You know, you really don't know when to fucking shut up," Mercedes whispered. Mercedes swung the bat down on Melanie's stomach causing the girl to fall down on the ground as she gasped for air.
"Yeah, you decide to make my husband look like a cheating bastard, and to look like he doesn't love me anymore," Mercedes added as she swung the bat on her back causing the girl to collapse on the ground.
"I've lost two babies due to your ass, and I plan on forgiving you after I beat your ass." Mercedes hissed. She whacked Melanie with the bat about three more times and she would have kept going if Sam didn't come and grabbed the bat from her and pulled her away. He slammed the door and grabbed Mercedes.
"What the hell just happened?" He asked.
"Just a little girl talk," Mercedes replied.
"Mercedes you swung on her with a damn bat."
"Let's not talk about her anymore. I want to withdraw from the divorce. Sam, I love you, and when I filed for it I thought I was looking out for the best of me, but I was just hurt. Hurt that you would cheat on me with her and have a kid with her but Sam baby, this time without you has been awful. My mom has been trying to get me to talk to you, but my pride would not allow it. I love you and only you, and I am sorry because so much of this could have been avoided. I want to stay married to you, and I want us to go to counseling, and I want us to be in love with each other again. I hope it isn't too late for you to want the same thing." Mercedes explained. When Sam didn't see anything Mercedes was worried but her worries left when Sam pulled her in for the most romantic, hungry, soul-searing kiss known to man. She wrapped her arms around him and let out a deep moan as the familiarity of the intimacy with the man she loved came back to her. She missed him, she missed this. Sam nearly fell to his knees at Mercedes's confession and the only thing he knew what to do was to just hold her and kiss her. Kiss her and help her realize that this was all he wanted and nothing more.
"I want this with you forever, and forever."
"Till death,"
"Till death."
