Chapter 15:
"You have had a rough couple of days. We can go home tomorrow and we can be together at home with you and I. I'm going to call in and take some leave so we can be together. I want to take care of you."
JANE POV:
I love that she wants to take care of me but I always do this alone, why am I so keen on letting her take care of me. I used to dream of this but my reality is way better than anything I could've dreamed of.
"You okay baby?" I hear Maura ask me.
"Oh yea I am fine, I was just thinking that's all." I smile at her.
"What were you thinking about?" She lays her head back on my shoulder.
"Don't get me wrong I love that you want to take care of me but when you said that I was surprised with myself for not having a problem with it. I have always done things alone and so when I felt so happy and eager for you to take care of me I guess it just caught me off guard." I say honestly.
"I want you to know that I enjoy taking care of you Jane, you bring me so much joy in life and you do so much to take care of me. It's about time that I can take care of you."
I feel myself starting to doze off. I feel her warmth curled up next to me. I find that I am at peace whenever I have her at my side.

Maura POV:
I wake up before Jane as usual. Watching her face I can see the damage she's been through. I caress her face and her neck, I enjoy watching how her body reacts to mine. I was hoping I would get to see her again, over these past few days I can't help but think I could've lost her. For once in my life I can't explain everything I am feeling by science, when I think about how I could've never seen her face again. It brings me a heavy feeling to my chest and takes the air out of my lungs. We have come so close to death more times than one but this time everything feels different.
"Good morning baby. What's going on in that big brain of yours?" Jane says to me with her eyes closed.
"I was just thinking about how I am feeling. And how what I am feeling cannot be explained in my usual scientific method."
"Is there something wrong, love?" She asks me.
"No, apart from the fact that we are in the hospital, everything is perfect. I have you and that is all that matters. I was sitting here thinking that I came so close to never seeing your beautiful face again. It scared me."
"You don't have to worry about that, I won't ever leave you that easy Maura. You are stuck with me. I love you Maura. Forever and Always. You complete me, and when we are apart I can't help but to think when we will be together again. I always make excuses to come down to the morgue because I miss you and I want to hear your voice. I know it has been a rough week but I promise you when we get home. We are going to build our dream home together and we will be together just like always. Frankie, Frost, and Korsak are going to help us build the house we will spend the rest of our lives in. Where we will be happily married and raise a couple of kids. You and I forever and always Maura."
I feel tears in my eyes as I hear the sincerity in her voice. "Oh love I'm sorry I didn't mean to make you cry." She hugs me tightly.
"It's okay Jane, I am crying because it was so beautiful. Normally you aren't very expressive with words so when you said that it triggered mh amygdala and my lacrimal gland which have a connection that I cannot really control."
"Well I just said everything that I have trouble saying but have been thinking about nonstop since Ian took me. I couldn't help but think about how I wanted to see you wearing a wedding dress and walking down the aisle. And how I was never going to get to have another moment that I will never forget. Like the first time we met and I was dressed as a hooker, you offered to buy me breakfast. If I wasn't maintaining my cover I would've told you who I was. Another one of those moments was the night that Hoyt escaped from prison and I came over there because my mother was being a helicopter parent, after Dean dropped by and you slid into the bed with me and I asked you if we were having a sleepover or if that was your way of saying you were attracted to me."
"I know that was a great day. I mean apart from the fact that you had a serial killer after you. I was so happy that you felt safe enough to come to my home. Since then you were always at my house, I loved that you would consider my house your home. You spent more nights in my house than at your own."
Just then the curtain on Jane's room and a new physician walked into the room. "Hello I am . I was hoping to ask you a few questions. Is now a good time?"
"Now is perfect because I would really like to leave soon." Jane says to the doctor.
"Okay, I was reading your chart. First, how is your wrist feeling? Is the pain bearable?"
"I mean I've felt worse. The pain isn't too bad but it is consistent. It hurts the most when I try to move it. Other than that it feels pretty okay."
"Alright well then we will send out referrals to physical therapists in Boston unless you would like to take care of that. And it would be in my personal opinion to find someone to reach out to about what you have gone through. I understand that the rape kit came back negative but you have been through a severe trauma."
"I can take care of the referrals, . Not that I don't think you are capable of sending out those referrals. I want Detective Rizzoli to have the very best care. I will take care of everything regarding her aftercare, I just need the instructions on everything."
"Are you a Doctor?"
"Yes she is the Chief Medical Examiner of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, as well as President of the New England Medical Officers."
"Oh I see. I have confidence that she will be in very capable hands. If you don't have any more questions then I will write up the discharge papers and instructions."
"Okay thank you ."
Once left the room, I turned to Jane and everyone, "Let me call to make sure the jet is fueled. Once everything is all set then we can leave for Boston."
"Alright Doc, thank you. We are going to put gas in the rental and then maybe go pick up a few souvenirs if you are okay with that. Just call us when she is being released and we will be waiting outside."
"Okay thank you."
All three of the detectives walk out of the room leaving Jane and I laying on the bed.
"How are you doing baby?" She asks me.
"I am doing the best I can Jane. I am terrified, relieved, sad, angry, and a lot of other emotions. I am so glad you're okay but I cannot help but think I am so close to losing you all of the time. I was going absolutely crazy Jane." I feel tears start to fall. She wraps her arm around me and holds me close.
"I am right here Maura. I am mostly okay, and when we go back to Boston. We have a couple months until I get to go back to work. Maybe you could take a vacation and we could spend our time making plans for our new home."
"I think that would be great. I could spend some time drawing plans with you."
Just then a nurse walks in carrying a folder. " wanted me to inform you that all of the instructions are written here. Her prescriptions are the last couple pages. Once Detective Rizzoli signs off for her personal effects and plans she will be officially discharged.
Jane finishes the paperwork while I call Korsak. Once Jane was ready to go, a nurse brought in a wheelchair. "I am not leaving in a wheelchair."
"You most certainly are because if you don't you aren't going home."
"But Maura I don't want to use a wheelchair."
"You won't leave this hospital unless you get in the chair." She finally relented and got into the chair. I rolled her out of the hospital to the rental truck. Once she is settled in the car we drive to the airport.
Once we board the plane, I take a seat next to Jane. She turns to me and says, "Let go home Maura."
