Chapter 2: A Strange Offer
Nessie
My heart was hammering in my chest. I didn't know what to do. Elsa's face had gone as white as a ghost. Dylan wouldn't stop crying. There was no escape for us now. The footsteps got closer and closer.
The door opened and to my absolute shock it was the beautiful doctor I saw outside the hospital. What the hell. I squeezed my sister's hand.
"It's okay I'm not going to hurt you young lady," I didn't say anything. "I just came to help you,"
"Wh-who are?" I stuttered.
"My name is Carlisle. Carlisle Cullen. What is your name?"
"My name is Renesmee," I said.
I saw a flicker of sadness in his eyes as if my name somehow meant something to him. "You have a baby," he commented.
"Yes this is my son Dylan. Oh and over there is my twin sister Elsa,"
He looked very confused. "You don't have a-" his words died in his mouth as my sister came into view. "How is this possible?" He looked at my sister oddly.
"Um well we're twins," I said. Why was that so hard for him to accept? Everyone else accepted that story just fine.
"How did you find me?" I asked him.
"Finding people is something I'm good at once I have their sc-never mind. By the way you dropped this on your way out," he handed me the stolen medication. "I don't know why you need this but it's been paid for,"
"Um thanks?" I wasn't used to such gestures of kindness.
"Would you girls like to come stay with my family and I?"
I rubbed my ears. "I'm sorry it sounded like you just offered us to come stay with you for the night. But I couldn't have heard that correctly,"
"I'm not offering for you two to stay the night. I'm offering you two, you three actually, a place to live,"
I was gobsmacked.
Elsa stepped forward "You're offering two strangers a place to live. You don't even know anything about us. Are you sure your family would even be okay with that?"
"The only thing they will be shocked by is that there is two of you and a baby,"
I scratched my head wondering why on Earth that would be so shocking. It's not like twins were mythical. I shook that thought out of my head though and focused on something else far more pressing. This kind man's offer.
It would be nice to have a roof over our heads for once. Maybe I'd finally be able to get away from my son's father. I shuddered and my heart stopped beating for a second when I thought of him.
"I think we'll take you up on your kind offer,"
"Good because I wasn't going to take no for an answer. Now come with me,"
My sister and I looked at each other before following him out. Both of us shocked by this sudden and strange turn of events.
We sat quietly in the back of his car. "So how did you girls end up on the streets?" Carlisle asked me.
"Our parents died and there wasn't anyone else to look after us," I said.
"and social services wasn't exactly aware of our existence so that's why we're homeless," Elsa added.
"You two are exactly the same. I can't tell you apart. Usually with twins there is at least a small difference. But you two are exactly the same. Even your scent is exactly the same,"
"I'm sorry our what?"
"Oh nevermind,"
"and we're not exactly the same. Elsa has a different personality than I do," I knew my sister hated hearing things like that. She never said it out loud. But I could tell just by the look on her face that she would get afterwards.
The house we arrived at was huge. These people were obviously very wealthy. It made me feel slightly uneasy.
"Don't be alarmed kids but my family is already waiting for us,"
"You told them we were coming?" I asked.
"I told them you were coming. This was before I became aware of your son and your sister,"
I held my baby closer to my body. He was awake but quiet now. When we walked in I felt as if the breath had been knocked out of me.
All around us were people. Insanely, inhumanely beautiful. Especially the girl with the blonde hair. She looked like she walked straight off the cover of an airbrushed magazine. It was enough to make a raggedy girl like myself take a major blow to the self esteem.
I glanced around at all of them. The big burly looking guy kind of scared me a little. Maybe the least threatening looking girl in the bunch was the short almost pixie like girl.
One of the guys kinda looked like Elsa and I. He had the same bronze hair color hair Elsa, Dylan, and I had. We were probably around the same height. His facial features resembled mine and Elsa's.
I looked to my sister and she looked even more nervous than I felt. Although there were a lot of things left unsaid somehow, I didn't know how, but somehow I just knew how she felt. Although she never said it out loud with every new person we met she was terrified that they would find out her secret.
Nothing terrified her more than the very idea of people discovering that she was my clone. She was terrified that she would be viewed as less of a person. Less of a human. Or worse that she would be viewed as not human at all. That not only would she be treated differently but that she would be sent away to get experimented on.
All of these thoughts raced through my head as the people stood around observing us.
Please let me know what you think.
