"I can't believe I forgot about this gift!" Harry said as he and Ron walked the streets of Hogsmeade. It was snowing heavily already at 10 am but the streets were packed with people who were probably doing some last-minute gift shopping as well. Harry and Ron moved at a snail's pace with the crowd of people.
"What do you think you are going to get Hannah?"
"I don't know. I literally do not know a thing about her! We've never spoken!" Harry walked by a group of tall wizards who all seemed to be in a rush to get to wherever they were going.
"What about a book or something?"
"I was thinking that but what if I got her the wrong book? I was thinking maybe slippers?"
Ron laughed at what Harry had said. "Slippers?! Come on, Harry! You can't get her slippers! Even I know that's a terrible gift!"
"What then? Clothes or something?"
"I don't think that's a good idea too as you probably don't even know her size. Let's head into this store, we might find something."
The store that Ron was talking about was called The Gentle Care. Harry had never noticed it before even though he had walked down this street every time he came to Hogsmeade. There were various beauty products in the display window and an ad where a witch who had to be in her early twenties applied makeup to her face that made it glow.
Harry opened the door and walked inside. It was nice and warm in the store. There were a lot of girls and older women who were in the store looking at the various products. Harry and Ron were the only guys in the store.
"You sure this is the best place for a gift?" Harry whispered to Ron. He was feeling uncomfortable in the store. Ron did not have a chance to answer as a clerk came up to Harry. She was a young witch with bright red hair and was wearing a light blue dress. She was smiling at Harry and Ron.
"Welcome to The Gentle Care, how may I help you?"
"Um, I am looking for a gift for a friend," Harry said sheepishly.
"Of course. Tell me about this friend so that we can find the perfect gift for her." The clerk began to walk around the store with Harry and Ron behind her.
"Well, the thing is, she's kind of like a new friend. I don't know her too well." Harry looked at the products on the shelves and on the tables. There were so many skin care products! He couldn't believe it.
The clerk laughed softly. "Ok, I see. What about our essential skin care pack? It has been a hot item this Christmas season. It has been practically flying off the shelves."
Harry looked at the pack that the clerk was talking about on the shelf before him. It had inside of it so many products that Harry had never heard about. There seemed to be everything inside of it. A pack in front of him literally rose up and flew across the room to the hands of a young witch.
"You see. Everyone wants it. You can't go wrong with this gift. I think your new friend would love it." The clerk winked at Harry.
Did she think that he was shopping for a girlfriend?! Harry thought uneasily.
"We'll take it!" Ron said from behind Harry. "Actually, we'll take two!"
Harry looked over at Ron in surprise. Ron grinned at him.
"Great! I promise you that your 'friend' is going to be very happy with this." The clerk headed toward the cash registers. Ron paid for his item first. Harry paid for the pack which was much more than he had been wanting to spend but figured he at least had something to give to Hannah.
The clerk bagged the gift and handed it to Harry with a smile. "Merry Christmas."
"Merry Christmas," Harry and Ron said. They walked out of the store and back into the snow and crowds.
"You bought another gift for Padma?"
Ron shook his head as they made their way through the throngs of the crowd. "I'm going to give this to Hermione."
"Hermione? Why?"
"I think she might like it."
Harry looked at his friend with a grin. "You like Hermione!"
Ron's face flushed a bright red. "Well…you know…I…"
"I knew it! I've been seeing your gaze linger on her face often over the past few weeks. I thought at first that she had something in her hair or face but no, you have been staring at her!"
Ron smiled even though his face was still very red. "It just happened out of nowhere! One day, Hermione just seemed to be very pretty to me! I can't get her out of my head."
Harry patted his friend on his shoulder. Snow fell to the ground from his coat. "I'm happy for you, Ron. Are you going to tell her that you like her when you give her the gift?"
Ron shook his head hurriedly. "No. That would be mental. I am just going to give her the gift."
"Ok, Ron. I'm sure she's going to love it," Harry said in the same voice as the clerk. Ron laughed as they made their way back to Hogwarts.
When they arrived back at the school, Harry saw a bunch of students throwing snowballs at each other in the courtyard. Luna Lovegood was building a snowman with the help of Hermione. They were putting a scarf around its neck.
A snowball hit Harry on his arm and he turned to see Lavender smiling at him. Katie was right next to her.
"Come play with us, Harry," Lavender said.
"Yeah, come on, Harry," Katie said.
The way that they said it sounded kind of seductive to Harry's ears. It actually made him aroused. This was the first time that either girl had given him a boner in their presence. Harry blushed as red as Ron did earlier.
"I have to drop this bag off in my room."
"I got it, Harry! Go and play!" Ron said with a grin.
"But–"
Ron quickly grabbed Harry's bag and hurried away. He knew what Ron was doing but yet he froze there for a moment. He felt suddenly nervous. He looked back at the girls who were smiling and waiting for him.
