It was a few hours later when the two found themselves climbing a very long set of stairs. Steve found an old weathered sign that read "Altar of the Sunne and Moone", whatever that meant. Further on up the stairs, they opened up to a large platform. There were two raised stones on either side, water surrounding the stones as well as lapping against a straight walkway before the two. Above them was a massive block of stone, engraved with a twin symbol of a sun and moon.
Young Link had a bad feeling about that place. It felt... cursed. He tried not to touch anything, as if it might harm him. Suddenly, a shadow appeared in the sky. At first, the duo thought it might have been the dragon returning to them, but they quickly realized that it was falling all too quickly. They barely had any time to move out of the way when a body slammed where they were standing, cracking the floor. They watched intently as the creature made a furious sound (or, at least they assumed it was angry) and slammed its fist on the ground, making new cracks appear. Slowly, the monster got up and the duo was able to see what they were dealing with. Towering above them (being four times the height of Young Link) stood a bipedal creature with black and red stripes on its extremities and head. Its chest was a black circle from which curved lines sprouted outwards, and the rest was a dull gray. From its waist, hands and feet waves of fire shot out and the latter two had claws that were sharpened to a deadly edge. They recognized the fighter immediately. "Incineroar?" - asked the Hylian child. "IN!" - screamed the monster, with a look of rage and hostility that they'd never seen the Pokemon show.
"Seems the fire cat's been having a bad hair day." Steve joked despite the current situation.
Young Link stared at his companion with a disapproving look, while quickly moving to the side. The transformed Pokemon, as if disapproving of the joke as well, lunged himself with arms open towards Steve, covering his whole body in flames as he did. The Hylian, seeing something like this coming, used his Hookshot to grab Steve and get him out of the way as well. "He's going to try and grab any one of us, since that is its specialty! I don't want to see what happens if he accomplishes it!" - told Young Link to his companion, hurriedly.
"I don't either," Steve replied as he watched the fire cat run past them with flames flying in all directions.
The two of them ran, unsure of what exactly to do to defeat this enemy. While they did, Young Link picked up some pebbles off the ground. "If nothing else, they'll be disposable ammunition for my slingshot" Recovering, the monster Pokemon started to give them chase. Fortunately, it had kept its original speed, meaning that they were able to outrun it easily. Unfortunately, the same could not be said for its flames, as it used the move Flamethrower, spouting a stream of fire towards them from its waist. The Hylian, who was watching his opponent while he ran, reacted quickly, using his Deku shield to block most of the attack from harming both of them.
Steve also used his shield to block the attack. He wasn't sure how long it could last despite the various enchants on it.
The flames went on for what they felt like an eternity, and they were forced to take a more defensive position, crouching behind their respective shields, and hope that they'd be enough, despite the fact that wood from the Great Deku Tree was known for being resilient. When the attack finally stopped, the Hylian child was shocked to find that the only thing remaining of his beloved shield was the two handles, now red-hot, which he was forced to drop immediately. He winced as he felt the pain of the burns on his right arm. However, he had no time to mourn its loss, as he was forced to watch their enemy and prepare for its next move. Meanwhile, the monster was in disbelief that the attack wasn't able to finish them off, staring at the both of them with wide-open eyes. However, it only took a few seconds for him to shake these feelings off and once again give them chase. Young Link, having had a chance to think of their next move, asked his companion while pointing towards an object in the distance."There! That pillar! We have to go there!"
Steve eyed the pillar and picked up the child, then made a run for the pillar and got a safe distance away from it in case the fire cat charged at said pillar in an attempt to injure them. "You got an idea involving this pillar?"
"I just thought it'd be a good place to hide and observe Incineroar, maybe find a weakness. You think you could delay him with some of your blocks? You're pretty good at building on the fly"
"Sure I can." Steve quickly summoned some obsidian and blast-resistant glass and made a sort of square box around the two. "Let's see him try to get through this."
"Good idea!" congratulated Young Link, seeing the monster shoot fire and scratch the blocks, to no avail. A moment passed when the realization hit him and he looked at Steve with a look of disappointment on his face. "How are we supposed to get out?"
"I can summon them, I can de-summon them just as easily."
"Not bad, but then we'd-" Young Link was about to argue when he felt another idea coming on. "What if we escape by digging down like you did to escape Galeem? If we aim towards the other side of the pillar, we should be able to emerge unnoticed. Incineroar will think that we're still stuck inside and wait for us to get out!"
"I like that idea." Steve summoned his shovel and used it to dig his way out to the other side of the pillar.
After emerging on the far side of the pillar, they could still hear the monster in the distance still scratching and shooting fire at the box, but making little progress in actually destroying it. "So - asked Young Link, looking at his companion - "Any ideas?"
"I think we should trap him with your bombs and my TNT," Steve mentioned.
"Not a bad plan. It should at least harm him enough to expose a place to attack, just like with the dragon."
Steve went about setting up TNT nearby the fire cat, but stayed stealthy so Incineroar wouldn't notice him.
As soon as the block man was back, Young Link hit the monster with a couple of pebbles by using his slingshot to try and get his attention, and immediately hiding afterwards. It worked, and he began approaching their position, looking everywhere, trying to find them.
"Now place a few bombs nearby my TNT," Steve told the young Hylian.
Using the opening that they'd made in the middle of the tunnel (they had to check that they were going in the right direction), Young Link managed to sneak behind Incineroar and plant two of his bombs. Shooting a few more pebbles to get the monster's attention, he gave Steve a signal and immediately dove back into the tunnel.
Steve set off the combined explosions and sat back to watch the aftermath.
Emerging on the other side of the pillar, Young Link asked: "Did it work?"
When the dust cleared, Incineroar was still standing, although he was now covered in various bruises.
Looking concerned, the Hylian looked at the block man "That clearly didn't work. Any other-". He then noticed the injuries over the Pokemon's body. He pointed them out to his companion, hurriedly. "Why would it be hurt if the explosion didn't do anything? Recalling the way he caught the Pokemon's attention each time, he realized something. "I think I got something. I-I think he's weak to rocks. He's been hurt in every place that I've hit him with one." With a pause, he finished his train of thought. "Now we just need a way to exploit it".
"…" Steve looked up at the pillar. "You think that could work?"
"What do you-" He cut himself off after seeing what Steve was looking at. He grew a smile. "Yes. That will definitely work."
Steve walked up to the pillar and examined it. "Let's knock this over then."
Over the next several minutes, Steve and Young Link had managed to blow up the pillar. Steve had made a slime and redstone contraption that had caught the pillar as it had fallen, and now the Minecraftian was making a launch pad made of slime blocks. "Right. I think that's good." Steve lined up the pillar and managed to throw it onto the launch pad. The pillar bounced up high into the air and then came crashing down on Incineroar. Steve knew the Pokémon would be okay.
Removing the rubble that covered Incineroar, they saw that he was covered in all sort of wounds. Young Link was concerned for his wellbeing. "At least we know it won't be waking up soon..." "Well, we need to find a way to help him turn back to normal. We need to take him to someone who could help us do that."
"Right." Steve then used another redstone contraption with pistons to lift Incineroar up a bit while he decided what to do. He then summoned his Ender Chest and tossed the fire cat inside it. "Don't worry, he'll be fine in there."
