("Was it something that the Hands tried to activate before they were attacked?")
Mewtwo placed his hands on the machine.
It didn't respond, instead staying silent and dead.
Megaman looked over at one of the monitors, which was larger than the others and it was connected to the collosus' head.
"Mewtwo, look! This is the main control unit!" he said happily.
He turned on the computer. The screen got filled with several prompts, showing different graphs, notes and the like.
("It appears they were... studying it")
Mewtwo was filled with a surreal feeling, like a strange sense of déjà vu. Only this time it was with an opposite perspective. He could almost sympathize with the machine.
Mega Man poured further into the notes. "There's gotta be something in here about just what this thing is!"
As he looked into it, Mewtwo strolled around. He'd tried getting some information using his psychic abilities, but he was left stumped. This left him sorely frustrated. He hated feeling so useless.
In the meantime, the cables connected to the colossus began pouring energy into it, powering it up. However, this went unnoticed by the two present, as they were busy looking into the monitors, trying to find any useful information.
After several minutes, Megaman finally came upon something he could use. "A ha! Found it! It says here, and I'll paraphrase: Galleom was an enforcer for the Subspace Army, which attacked the Smash World by the time the third tournament took place, and was defeated by the combined effort of-"
He was cut short as Galleom, now activated, raised his arms in the air and screamed.
It was too late for either of them to feel regret. In a rush, Mewtwo demanded that Mega Man finished reading before Galleom attacked to see if it had any weaknesses. He wasn't there when the Subspace Army attacked, but he knew that anyone who turned against the Smash World was an enemy to be eliminated.
Galleom slammed his fist against the ground. Megaman saw this coming and rolled back to avoid being caught up in the attack. The attack also destroyed several computers in the process, including the Main Control Unit.
"There goes our info" lamented Megaman.
("Then we have no choice. We must fight!") Mewtwo levitated lifted of the crushed tech and began telekinetically throwing them at Galleom while Mega Man rapidly fired his Mega Buster.
The robot shrugged off the attacks. He then lifted his foot and, putting all his weight behind it, stomped the ground, trying to crush the two under it.
Seeing the enormous foot about to trample them, Megaman dodged to the left and Mewtwo to the right. The Blue Bomber then immediately summoned Rush and jumped off the spring on his back. This put him at barely eye level with the gigantic machine. Using his own innate ability to aim, he shot a Crash Bomber on his eye before falling back down.
Mewtwo, meanwhile, tried to find a way to fight against this titanic enemy. However, he kept getting more and more frustrated. Being mechanical meant that it had no mind to influence, its metallic body was too tough for him to bend with his psychic might and it even seemed to be unaffected by any projectiles he fired, psychic or otherwise. This meant one thing: for once in his life, he was utterly outclassed.
He hated to admit it, but he was considering the option of running away.
The Crash Bomber explosion seemed small in comparison to the machine's size, but they saw how it affected the machine slightly by the tightening of its fists.
While Mega Man and Galleom were brawling, Mewtwo thought about the elevator. He needed to keep it safe, but also to help the equally mechanical Mega Man, somehow.
The Blue Bomber eventually managed to grab a hold of one of Galleom's fingers. His hands changed shape into two electrodes that fired an intense electrical spark into it. Galleom screeched in pain but came to the realization that the attacker's handle on him wasn't the strongest. As a result, Mega Man was spun around on the fingertip before being violently launched toward the debris. Fortunately, Mewtwo telekinetically stopped his ally in the air before he crashed.
"Thanks, Mewtwo. You saved me."
("I fear I may be outclassed by this thing. It's the least I can do.")
Mega Man gave an audible gulp. If the Legendary Mewtwo was fighting a losing battle, how in the world was he supposed to have a chance? He then slapped himself in the face. I've got this. I deal with giant robots all the time. I'm sure I'll think of something.
("Megaman!")
"What is it?"
("This machine was deactivated before. The Hands must have devised a way to do so. We must find it!")
Megaman's eyes widened. That's it!
("I'll keep it occupied in the meantime") he said, as he dodged another attack. He used a Shadow Ball on one of his exposed joints, which clearly annoyed the machine.
Megaman used this opportunity to run around Galleom and think of what Mewtwo told him. If the Hands created a way to deactivate him, where would it be? It could be in several places...
Mewtwo was beginning to struggle as Galleom began learning his movement patterns and each attack landed even closer to home, with a stomp landing a feet from his exposed tail ("Hurry!")
The Blue Bomber was racking his brain for answers. How could a deactivation procedure be applied? He realized the answer immediately. The main CPU! It was connected to his nape!
He now knew what he needed to do: getting behind Galleom, he began climbing his back.
Mewtwo levitated directly facing Galleom at all times to keep his focus off Mega Man, doing his best to keep it in place. He fired another Shadow Ball, to which Galleom responded with missiles that Mewtwo deflected back. This, unfortunately, left Mewtwo completely open to getting caught in a double lariat.
Megaman, in the meantime, was having trouble staying in the giant robot's back. It took all of his effort and a literal iron grip to not get swung away as it spun around trying to catch Mewtwo. Thankfully, it hadn't seemed to have noticed his own absence, meaning he was able to continue climbing when the movement stopped.
Finally, he reached Galleom's nape. From there, he could see the hole where the main CPU had once been connected. From there, he wished once again that he knew anything about hacking. "It would've come in handy right now..." Seeing no better choice, he charged up his Spark Shock as much as he could and then inserted them into the opening.
Galleom screeched in pain as it put one of its hands over the opening to cover it, only to transfer some of the shock to even more of itself.
Mega Man dropped down to avoid getting crushed when Galleom tried to swat the source of its pain off. The Blue Bomber ran over to Mewtwo, keeping his Mega Buster pointed at Galleom. "You think that got him?"
Galleom kept swaying around wildly, and while Mewtwo and Megaman did a good job of dodging any moves that would've otherwise hurt them, they still didn't know how they'd stop it, seeing as any attacks they used didn't do enough damage.
A few seconds later, Galleom's movement stopped, and it came crashing down. The whole room shook violently as it did, with cracks appearing in the wall and the lights flickering on and off.
Megaman watched the colossus carefully. The robot's eyes were still white, but didn't have the same energy as before. It doesn't seem to be deactivated yet... However, the robot didn't move.
Suddenly, energy began to fill it again as the robot revived. It moved to get up again. However, its movement stopped very briefly every few seconds, as if getting shocked.
An alien voice started blaring an unintelligible message over and over from the robot's body.
"I don't know what it's saying, but I get the feeling that it isn't too happy with us," cried Mega Man.
Mewtwo kept his thoughts to himself, but realized that Mega Man was undeserving of false hope in this war. ("I don't...either. We have to make a decision: either we go for total war, or run.")
Mega Man geared up for another shot. "The files said it was part of the Subspace Army, that it was against the Smash Brotherhood. We can't let it win. We will live up to our name and fight!" He fired every single projectile he could think to have at Galleom.
As the two of them fought back against the mechanical menace, it slowed down, as the accumulated damage began to wear into it. This, combined with the internal damage to its central control system meant that it was left in really bad shape. Its attacks became easy to predict and dodge and its weak points in its defenses became exposed and obvious.
Galleom then became desperate. In one last act of defiance it opened the hatch in its head where the Subspace bomb that nearly killed Red and Lucas was housed and activated it. Beneath it, a countdown started.
Megaman instantly recognized his enemy's intentions. "It's a bomb!" he shouted. He couldn't tell what the numbers under it meant, but at the pace it was going, he could calculate they had about 90 seconds.
Mewtwo didn't need to be told twice. He dashed to the elevator with the Blue Bomber right behind him.
Once on it, they realized that it was going to be too slow. "I have an idea! Help me destroy the top part!" shouted Megaman with anxiety in his voice. He immediately shot a Crash Bomber into it at the same time Mewtwo blasted tore it apart with psychic energy.
With the obstacle out of the way, Megaman summoned his companion Rush and quickly fused with it, gaining the Rush Armor. With the newly obtained flight ability, he grabbed a surprised Mewtwo by the arms and carried him up the elevator chute with as much power as he could provide. The tunnel to the surface seemed to stretch on forever. "How deep underground are we?" thought Megaman stressfully. He could only hope that he had enough fuel...
After what felt like an eternity, they reached the end of the tunnel, just as Megaman felt his fuel running dangerously low. They landed and he transformed back, de-fusing from Rush, who promptly disappeared.
Mewtwo took a good look at the facility as he got readjusted to the sunlight. When the estimated time of detonation had passed, they covered their eyes and ears in anticipation for the explosion, but nothing happened.
("I don't understand. You said the bomb would go off in 90 seconds,") noted Mewtwo.
"Well, I didn't really understa-" The duo became distracted by the sight of a massive thundercloud in the distance followed by the sound of the accompanying Thunder.
"What was that?!"
("That has to be either Pikachu or Pichu. Grab ahold of my hand. Let's go!") After a second or two of specialized focusing, Mewtwo teleported to the source of the thundercloud, taking Mega Man with him.
