The bushes rustled as a doe wandered the forest. The creature nosed at various plants, stopping to eat some before moving on.
However, the doe didn't know that she was being followed.
A figure closely tailed the doe, staying downwind so the creature wouldn't smell his scent and run off.
The doe stopped in a clearing and laid down, intending to rest before moving onward.
The hunter stood at the edge of the clearing, eying the doe. He silently notched an arrow to his worn bow, then raised it -
- and paused.
A tiny foal stumbled from the edge of the clearing and bleated, then wandered over to the doe.
He couldn't kill the doe now. Not when she had a foal to care for.
The hunter lowered the bow and put it away, feeling a pang of hunger that only grew in intensity the longer he gazed at the creatures in the clearing.
He sighed and turned, then walked away, heading further into the forest he had found himself in…
After he had forcibly been separated from everyone.
A lone Ivysaur aimlessly wandered through the vast ancient forest, fervently searching for the lone human who had saved his life.
They had been separated during the fall from the cliff, and the grass Pokemon had woken up alone.
That had been several hours ago.
But yet, the human had unknowingly left a trail that Ivy could follow. Crushed grass, broken sticks, disturbed plants.
The usual things that humans unknowingly did when trying to cover their tracks.
Ivy was close now, he knew this, and so the small Pokémon pressed onward, hoping he'd find the human before nightfall.
Nightfall was when the monsters left their dens.
It was very dangerous for humans to be out during nightfall.
At least he had managed to find a - hopefully - unoccupied cave before nightfall.
Now the sun had set, and he could hear all sorts of various noises that secretly scared him. None of these noises sounded like the monsters of back home, and he didn't know if the weapons he had would help him if he had to face any said monsters.
He had long since tried to sleep - albeit on the cold hard rock ground of the cave - but thoughts kept swirling in his head, not to mention his ever-growing hunger.
Were any others alive? What was that thing that had attacked them? Why had it attacked them? So many endless questions…
A noise. The sound of some stick cracking underfoot.
He shot upright, his gaze darting to the open cave entrance, a hand quickly grabbed the hilt of the sword that lay beside him.
"Ivy."
What was that? It almost sounded like…
Ivysaur had found Link. And just in time, as the various monsters in this forest had awoken.
For some reason, none of the said monsters had bothered the small Pokémon, they had merely acknowledged him, or had - to his amazement - shown him berry bushes. Ivy had gladly taken said berries and had continued on his way.
The grass Pokémon bounded across the cave and threw himself against the human's chest, suddenly overwhelmed with joy.
"…Ivy?" Link spoke after a few moments of shock, then hugged the Pokémon.
The two stayed like that for a while before Ivy freed himself from the hug, then presented the berries to his friend.
"…What do you want me to do with these?"
Ivy pushed the berries across the cave floor towards the human, then stepped back. When the human looked at the berries, then him in silent confusion, Ivy rolled his eyes and made various eating motions.
"…I knew that." Link muttered as he grabbed the berries. "Are these safe?"
Ivy slowly blinked at him and said nothing in response.
"…Only one way to find out." The Hylian began to take the berries from the stems and then eat them.
Ivy thought to himself that Link should have been born a Lycanroc and not a human, with the way he was devouring the berries. Or perhaps he hadn't cared enough to find said berries in the first place and was thus starving.
The Pokémon didn't understand humans sometimes.
The rest of the night had been uneventful - Link had fallen asleep almost right after eating the berries.
Ivy then wondered if the berries' effects made humans sleep. He then wondered if the berries were poisonous.
Fortunately for both of them, they were not.
The next morning arrived quickly. Ivy wondered why Link got up and left the cave, as some of the monsters were still out.
To his surprise, around an hour later, Link returned to the cave with one of the massive lizard creatures around his shoulders. The human called it a "Lizalfos".
He then said something about "lizard soup". Ivy didn't understand why Link wanted to make such a thing, he wasn't going to eat the monster anyway.
Several hours later, the Lizalfos had been skinned and prepared properly. The inedible bits had been buried outside the cave, while the good meat had been cut and wrapped in moss - and whatever else Link could find.
Somehow, the Sheikah Slate could store food items. Ivy was visibly amazed by this as he watched the various cuts of Lizalfos meat be turned into blue particles, which then flew into the strange Pokédex clone; - For that's basically what the thing was to Ivy -
The two then left the cave around the middle of the afternoon and headed in no particular direction…
