Two weeks later..
Rin nearly screamed in the middle of the lecture hall upon seeing the grade on her quiz. An A. Not a D..a C…or B… But an A! Professor Lang had given her a smirk while giving her the quiz back.
"Nicely well done, Rin. But just remember that you can always come to my office hours and get even more extra credits,"
She felt like puking at his proposal but forced a smile instead. "No thank you. I figured out a way of how to better study,"
And with that, she walked past an annoyed-looking Ebisu and immediately texted Obito to meet her as soon as he could.
They decided to meet at her apartment considering he had been close by the area. And upon opening the door for him and allowing him to enter, Rin quickly closed the door and showed him the piece of paper that had a very large A on top.
"Look! I got an A! All thanks to you!"
"That's great!" Obito replied, "You truly deserve it,"
"I couldn't have done it without you, seriously…"
"I just did what your professor couldn't do properly,"
Rin laughed. Well, he was right about that. "I feel much happier seeing this grade… I was so scared of having to drop this class or failing it, and then having to take it again,"
"Well, this quiz now proves that you can certainly do it,"
"You've been tutoring me for two weeks, and I already got an A! I owe you, big time! Tell me, what do you want?"
Obito let out a nervous chuckle, and Rin couldn't help but notice how adorable he looked. His hair wasn't gelled as much like before, which showed her how much longer (and messier) it was. And she imagined running her fingers through it.
"Bowling,"
"Huh?" she asked, removing the mental image of her playing with his hair.
"I asked if you would like to go bowling with me this Saturday evening?"
"Oh, s-sure! What time?"
"Seven o'clock? I'll pick you up,"
"That sounds great,"
XxXxX
"That sounds like a date," said Anko the next day when Rin told her about it.
"It does…But in a friendship way! Nothing romantic. I mean, it's bowling,"
"You told him that you owed him big time, and he practically asked you out on a bowling date,"
Rin slowly nodded, "Well… when you put it like that… yeah? But I rather not think too much about it,"
Unfortunately for Rin, she did think too much about it. Now that she had known him for nearly three weeks, they had started texting each other more often. And not just about statistics. It started when she texted him a funny meme about statistics, and he responded back with another one that had her laughing. The next morning, she woke up to two new texts from him. The first one was a good morning, and the second one was an invitation to the next Spiderman movie. The showtime started an hour after the scheduled bowling time. And with a wide smile, she agreed to the movie and then followed up with a good morning text back.
The remainder of the week flew fast, and it was already Saturday evening. Rin wore one of her nicer pink blouses with white jeans and black shoes. She kept her look natural despite Anko and Kurenai telling her to wear some makeup. And had this been an actual romantic date, she would have. But she saw this as two friends hanging out; and if there was more to come, it would and naturally. Dating Ebisu had taught her an important lesson on not rushing things as it could lead to disaster. And the last thing she wanted was rushing something with a guy she met a few weeks ago.
Obito picked her up on time and drove them to the bowling alley about thirty minutes away from the campus. They booked one lane for an hour, and Obito purchased their shoes. Afterward, a waiter led them to their lane and set up their game.
"Anything to eat or drink?"
"I'll have a beer. Rin, what do you want?"
"Hm, water is fine,"
"Beer and water, got it," said the waiter, "Anything to eat?"
"Are you OK with sharing nachos?" Obito asked, to which Rin nodded.
The waiter finalized their order and walked away, leaving the two alone by their lane. Rin grabbed one of the smaller bowling balls and went first, knocking down eight of the ten pins. With a wide smile, she grabbed a second bowling ball and rolled it. But her smile faded as the ball completely missed her targets, and Obito chuckled.
"My turn," he told her with a smirk, grabbing a bowling ball and rolling it. It hit all ten pins. He grabbed another ball and rolled it, hitting all ten pins again. "Let me see you beat that,"
"Oh, cocky I see…" Rin commented with a grin while grabbing a bowling ball. She hit seven of the ten pins, and Obito chuckled again. Ignoring him, she grabbed the second ball and rolled it, managing to hit one of the three pins. "Stop laughing," she told Obito, although she couldn't help but smirk at the fact that she knew that he was going to win.
They played for a couple of more minutes until the food and drinks arrived.
"You must be some bowling champion. Is there anything you aren't good at?" she asked, sitting next to him.
"I'm terrible at singing," Obito replied, "And dancing…and drawing,"
They started eating the nachos while continuing the game, with Rin losing by fifteen points. They played a second game, with Rin losing by even more points. She massaged her wrists and glared at Obito as, once again, knocked down all pins in one try. The Uchiha chuckled at her reaction as she grabbed the smaller bowling ball. She thought about her position for a couple of seconds before rolling the ball, her honey-brown eyes watching as for once the wall rolled in a straight position and then knocked down all of the pins. She jumped in happiness, despite knowing that Obito would still win the entire game. He won by twenty-one points.
They exited the bowling place and walked towards his vehicle.
"Did you have fun?" he asked her, his hands in his pockets.
"Despite losing, yes I did," Rin said with a smile, "Maybe next time we should do some drawing activity or dancing,"
Obito laughed as he unlocked his car and opened the passenger-side door for her. The words 'next time' had him feeling optimistic. He got behind the driver's seat and drove to the movie theater. The theater was packed with Marvel fans of all ages, some of them dressed up as famous superhero. Obito ordered a large popcorn with two side drinks while paying for their tickets. Rin carried their drinks as they walked towards the auditorium, thinking heavily about the fact that this was like a date.
The chairs inside the auditorium had side tables, which made it easier for them to place their food and drinks. The chairs also reclined, making for an even better experience. The large bucket of popcorn sat on Obito's side table, and they slowly ate as the movie started. The movie was a fun watch for them, keeping them invested in the plot and action scenes. Their hands would touch each other's while grabbing more popcorn, and they would turn to each other with a smile.
Two and half hours later, the movie concluded and they exited the theater.
"The guy behind us fell asleep," Rin said, breaking the silence.
"I know," Obito said, "He was snoring,"
"Who falls asleep watching a Marvel movie?"
"DC fans?"
They both laughed.
"I will admit, I do prefer DC over Marvel," Rin said.
Obito looked at her as they slowly walked side by side to the parking lot.
"Why?"
"It's what I watched every day after school. I started with the batman and robin series, and then got hooked up to teen titans,"
"Did you read the comics?"
"Nah. I just enjoyed watching the cartoons. What about you? Why do you like Marvel over DC?"
"I used to collect the Marvel comics since I was five. I eventually stopped in high school,"
"You read all of them?"
"Not really," Obito chuckled, "my uncle ended up donating a lot of them to the local library. But I did read the majority of them. The x-men series was my favorite over the avengers,"
"I find the x-men overpowered," she said.
"And DC superheroes aren't?" he asked back with a smirk.
"No," she challenged, "Batman is human. So is Robin,"
"Marvel movies are more fun," he challenged back, and Rin pouted her lips.
"That's true… Well, we have Wonderwoman! A very strong female character who can defeat even Superman,"
"And we have Scarlett Johansson," he said with a smirk, "Someone's who's hot…and real,"
Rin laughed, "In that case, we have Henry Cavill. Who is hot…and very real,"
"So is that your type?"
"In my dreams he is," she laughed, "He is my celebrity crush…and Anko's, of course. Let me guess - you have pictures of Scarlet Johanson taped to the wall in your room?"
"I used to in high school," he admitted with a smile, "But as hot as she is, she isn't my type,"
"She's just every man's fantasy,"
"I actually dressed up as black widow last year for Halloween,"
Obito gave her an interesting look, "Really?"
"Yup. I even wore a red-haired wig. I think I have a picture somewhere that I can show you,"
"I would like to see it,"
The ride back to her dormitory consisted of comparing more Marvel characters to those of the DC universe and debating which ones would win. He dropped her off about half an hour later, and they said their goodbyes.
Upon entering her apartment, she quickly searched for last year's Halloween pictures. She bit her bottom lip while scrolling through her gallery, her eyebrows raising upon finding it. Kurenai had taken the picture of her. Rin had been wearing Blackwidow's iconic black skin-tight leather costume with a red wig. The front zipper was purposely pulled down by several inches, showing off some cleavage.
Rin quickly forwarded the picture to Obito before heading to the bathroom and changing to her pajamas. She scrubbed her face and combed her hair as her phone vibrated two times, and she saw two unread text messages from him.
Obito: Wow
Obito: Very marvelous ;)
Rin blushed while typing back.
Rin: Thank you :) Did you get home already?
Obito: yes.
Rin: Good. Thank you for treating me out. But I still owe you for all of your help. Next week is on me!
Obito: I look forward to it :)
