Chapter 5
Kagome had gone back to her room, wondering what she had done wrong to upset the lord, she fought the tears that urged strongly to spill from her eyes. Coming to the door where her child was happily coloring in the book that she had got him the last time she visited him, she wiped her eyes of the traitorous tears that had split. She opened the door to meet the excited green eyes of shippo.
"Look momma"
He jumped up happily with the coloring page in hand, he ran up to Kagome holding the coloring page in front of himself.
She forced a happy smile onto her face and took the coloring page from shippo.
"Wow, this is really good!" She smiled happily at him
He smiled happily before looking at the ground, his foot tracing the floor underneath him "it's for Rin, do you think she'll like it momma?"
She looked at her nervous kit, she smiled warmly at him before sitting on her knees so blue eyes met green that held so much love for her.
"Shippo, I think she'll love it, especially since you put so much time and energy into it"
He stared at her with a smile pulling at both corners of his mouth.
"And because you thought of her when you drew it."
She finished and hugged shippo to her tightly.
Sesshomaru stood in his study now completely alone.
-"why didn't you mark her. You had your chance Baka! The sooner we mark and pup her the sooner we will be rid of the pathetic wench!-
His beast roared at him. He was enraged they had the pathetic miko as putty in their claws.
-"You do not control this Sesshomaru. It is I who control you. Now shush"-
He argued back as he tried to gain control over himself once again.
He walked out of his office and the smell of salt from Kagome's tears assaulted his nose. He continued to walk down the enormous hallway until he came upon the kits room, the door was still cracked showing the interaction between Kagome and shippo, he watched silently.
-"how are you going to tell me that you are not childish as the hanyou but you are outside her door listening to her as if you are a child the age of the wench pup you are so fond of"-
Sesshomaru walked away and growled at the beast that would not seem to leave him be.
-"you were quiet for so long, why do you speak now?"-
He waited for a response but nothing. He walked out into the gardens watching the stars sparkle against the moon that rested in the night sky, almost translucent clouds floated calmly by he let out a breath he did not know he was holding.
Rin knocked on the door of shippos room. Slowly she opened the door and peeked around
"Lady Kagome?"
Kagome and Shippo were brought out of their conversation to see Rin peeking around the door. Kagome stood and smiled at the young girl.
"Yes rin? What is the matter sweetheart?"
Rin blushed at the sound of kagome saying her name.
"Can you pretty please tuck rin in and read a story like you do shippo?"
Kagome smiled, she moved over on the futon to make room for rin. She patted the spot beside her and shippo
"Of course, come on. You can lay with us and if you fall asleep, I'll read to the both of you"
Rin smiled happily as she ran in and crawled onto the futon with Shippo and Kagome.
"The dream pillow by Lutifa Kamish, Naden Kriel and Nadia Davids."
Kagome made sure both children were tucked in nice and warm before starting her story holding the book so both children could see.
"When the stars are out and the moon swings in the sky and the lights in my room are low, things are different.
The pirate puppet waves his sword. The mango tree bends its branches. Even my teddy bear becomes a different sort of bear.
I keep very still in my cave of blankets or i call "maaamaaa! Daaaddyyy!" or I jump into their bed.
I tell mama about the pirate and tree and bear.
"You had a really bad dream"
Kagome looked down to look at the children, she smiled happily. Both children were snuggled tightly to each other already fast asleep.
-"wow, that took less time then i thought it would."-
She slowly rose off the futon careful not to disturb the sleeping children, she walked over and put the book back. She walked over and gently picked up a sleeping rin. She walked out of the room, careful not to wake her. She walked into rins room and laid her in her bed, being sure to cover the young girl to combat the cold that lingered with the night air that slowly drifted into the castle. She kissed the little girl's forehead before walking out and closing the door behind her. She walked into the room she shared with shippo and covered him back up before he had gotten too cold. She closed the door before she left that room as well.
Kagome had walked outside her mind still reeling from what had happened between her and sesshomaru, she sat underneath one of the trees that overlooked the gardens, her eyes glued on the moon. She felt a hand touch her shoulder.
"Miko"
Kagome looked, golden met blue. Red caressed her cheeks slowly when she saw his deep golden pools looking at her.
"Y..yes lord sesshomaru"
He smirked as he smelled her arousal, nervousness and embarrassment all in one
"I wanted to explain my actions from earlier, i'm sure you have a lot of questions"
She only nodded at his statement.
"In yokai culture especially inu yokai when we mate we mate for life. During the mating we will bite the crease of the neck to leave our mark. We are only intended; we must not do anything to defile ourselves or when we do mate it would not be a rightful mating. And as lord of the western lands I especially mustn't. For I do then the other lords by law have the right to deny you and any heir we produce by doing so they may also claim my lands for themselves and I would have no power to stop them for I would be cast from my throne as lord to the western lands."
They continued to speak a good bit into the night while the rest inside the castle slept soundly inside their beds.
Meanwhile with Miroku and Inuyasha..
The pair were traveling the countryside following the tale of a powerful demon who has been causing havoc to the lands.
"Do you think this demon will have a piece of the shard?"
Inuyasha looked at the monk who was left to travel with him.
"We better or I'm going to be pissed, we have wasted time finding a demon who actually has a piece if this one doesn't."
"What about kagome? She is the only one who can purify the tainted shard. You need to apologize for your behavior and beg for her to travel with us again."
Inuyasha just scoffed not once did he look back.
"What do we need her for? She'll just slow us down and get in the way. Besides we don't need her to purify the shard we have kikyo"
Miroku stopped hearing what his companion had said.
"Inuyasha what is with this sudden overly Fascination with kikyo here lately? The last time we had talked about her you had said you were going to tell her to go to hell without you. What happened to wanting to be with Kagome, now all of the sudden Kagome is worthless to you and just a copy..you had even wished that your brother would eat her, what has come over you!?"
Hearing his close friend talk this way upset him but what upset him more was the sudden change in personality. Yes he was thoughtless, crass and sometimes down right stubborn. But he had held real and deep feelings for their companion. What upset him even more than all of this is he couldn't figure out why the sudden personality change. That is why he stayed back. The week before they had talked long after the girls had gone to sleep, they had talked about all of this. About leaving kikyo for good this time, about telling Kagome his real feelings and taking her for his own.
"What does it matter to you!?"
He had just ignored his hanyou friend as they traveled on.
-"it's just like kana's mirror except he's not void of any emotion..i wonder"
He was brought out of his musings when a demon stood before him, this demon stood a few inches taller than miroku himself. She had a dark purple kimono adorned with golden feathers, her hair tied in a tight pony. Her black hair waving down her back, her face held dark purple stripes and each side. He looked over at Inuyasha who was growling loudly.
"Why the hell do you smell like nuraku!?"
He stared back at the demoness who began to laugh.
"So you are familiar with my creator..no matter for i will be the one to kill you!"
Miroku stood his ground ready for the impending battle with the demoness that stood before them.
"Inuyasha is she another incarnation?"
Kagome laid beside Shippo, both sleeping soundly, the gentle, cool breeze of the morning softly blowing on her. She woke slowly, her eyes fluttering open and her mind replaying the conversation last night.
***FLASHBACK****

Her eyes widen in understanding
"So…so I hadn't done anything to offend you my lord?"
Sessomharu furrowed his eyebrows together
"I thought we had discussed this already. When we are in private you may just use my name you have no need for formalities."
Kagome smiled sadly
"We had but after the way you pulled away from me, i thought you were disgusted with me or i had done something to offend you"
He looked at her and shook his head
"No, you have done nothing of the sort. I was losing control i did not wish to do anything to defile you, something that you would regret later"
To his surprise he hadn't noticed when she moved closer to him, her lips crashed into his. Their mouths devouring each other in a hungry battle. Before long they both had pulled away for lack of oxygen, his hand came up and held her cheek to his surprise yet again she had leaned her head into his embrace her eyes shone as if they held love for him the moment underneath the moonlight seemed perfect, she was even more breathtaking in the moonlight until his beast joined in
-" i do have to admit for a pathetic, weak human. She is beautiful underneath the moonlight"-
-"hm'-
Was all he said as for once he agreed with his beast. They both purred with contentment with the moment they shared with the tiny female they held in their arms, the silent night air filled with the distant sounds of crickets and frogs, the wind blowing against them softly blowing her scent into his nose calming not only him but his beast too.
They sat in the same spot underneath the weeping sakura tree that sat on top of a tiny hill overlooking the gardens. He started to move before noticing that kagome was asleep in his lap. He smiled inwardly. He rose picking up kagome and walked back into his home. silently sesshomaru walked into the room she shared with the kit and laid her onto the futon making sure they were both covered, quickly looking around to see no one was walking the halls and both children were soundly asleep he kissed her forehead and whispered into her ear
"Goodnight koi, sleep well"
***END OF FLASHBACK****
She blushed lightly remembering the kiss she initiated with the lord of the castle and how she had fallen asleep laying in his lap, she looked around the room
"He must have brought me to bed..i don't remember coming here myself"
Her blush only grew. She rose quietly so she wouldn't wake the sleeping kit, she grabbed a kimono and picked one for tonight
-"That's right, I almost forgot. The other lords are coming over to visit and discuss something with sesshomaru, I'm supposed to be there with him… I'll bathe now and again before dinner..-" with her mind made up kagome took a kimono out of her wardrobe and went into the hot springs.
