Rin sat quietly as the group played truth or dare. They dared Deidara to sing a lousy song, and Kisame to do fifty push ups. Konan was dared to give Yahiko a lap dance, which she gladly did. The alcohol, of course, gave her the confidence to ignore the cheers and stares of everyone else. Yahiko's face had been as red as a tomato.
Shizune was asked what her favorite thing about Hidan was. And she giggled while looking at her boyfriend's crotch. Rin rolled her eyes, something that didn't go unnoticed by her roommate of course.
"Yugito," Shizune said, "Truth or dare?"
The blond young woman thought about it for a second, taking a sip of her beer, "Hm… Truth,"
Hidan whispered something into Shizune's ear, who responded by giggling. "Would you date Obito again if he asked you out?"
Rin glared at her roommate, her throat aching as she wondered why Shizune would even ask that. The majority of the group seemed uncomfortable as well. Konan gave Shizune a disgusted look; even Yugito seemed surprised by the question.
"Um," Yugito said with a shy smile, "I…maybe?"
"So that's a yes!" Shizune said, Hidan smirking from behind.
Yugito looked at Obito, who looked uncomfortable as well. She then turned to Shizune, "I…don't know. Maybe,"
"What about you, Obito?" Shizune asked, "Would you go out with Yugito-"
"No," he said sternly, which earned a laugh from Hidan.
"Oh, come on my man! Just remember the time you two had sex in our bathroom,"
Rin looked at the ground, missing Obito's angry look, as another awkward and uncomfortable silence fell amongst everyone. Konan broke the silence by clearing her throat.
"Why don't we all go back inside and get something to eat? We can play something else,"
Everyone else agreed and slowly walked inside the house. Rin kept her gaze down, watching from the corner of her eyes as Obito and Deidara were talking about something. Yugito and Konan were talking lowly to each other; Hidan and Shizune were laughing while talking about something else.
Kisame, who had ordered pizza and chicken wings, began serving everyone. He gave a plate to Rin, but she kindly refused.
"Thanks, but I'm not hungry,"
"You sure?"
She nodded and gave him a short smile. She felt someone standing right behind her, and turned her head to see Obito there. They had barely made contact since the awkward truth or dare game. She was partly mad at him, even though none of this was his fault really. Hidan was the one who invited his ex, and Shizune started asking inappropriate questions. If anything, Rin was more disappointed and angry at Shizune. She never expected her roommate and (ex) friend of over three years to do this. The way Shizune and Hidan used Yugito and the situation made it seem like they wanted to take revenge on her. And at this point, Rin didn't know how to respond. Even worse, it made things awkward with Obito now.
"You OK?" he whispered into her ear from behind, sending shivers down her spine.
She wasn't OK, and he must've noticed. But she didn't want to ruin this evening for anyone, nor be seen as some jealous and bitter woman. So she forced a smile and turned to him. "Yeah, everything's fine,"
Obito didn't look convinced, "We can go somewhere else right now. Just you and I,"
His words made her feel genuinely happy like their strange flirty friendship wasn't doomed because of what Shizune and Hidan were doing. But she also didn't want to ruin anything by leaving.
"It's OK. Everyone else seems to be having fun and I don't want to cause any trouble,"
"You're not the one causing the trouble," Obito said with an annoyed tone, and she couldn't help but giggle.
"I guess you weren't expecting your ex-girlfriend to be here?" she asked, watching as he nodded.
"Yeah. I don't know why Hidan invited her considering he hated her,"
Rin raised an eyebrow at that. "Why?" Now, why would Hidan invite over someone he hates? This, of course, only proved Rin's theory that he did so as part of some revenge scheme he and Shizune now had against her.
Obito shrugged, "He never elaborated. I have my theories though,"
"Such as?"
Obito leaned closer to her, which made Rin blush a little.
"He liked her and she never paid attention to him,"
Rin's eyebrows raised and immediately thought about the perverted texts Hidan had been sending her for the last couple of months. She had never shown them to Obito as the two were roommates and she didn't want to create a toxic environment for him. But this piece of information was crucial as she was suddenly better at realizing just how petty Hidan could be. If Yugito was single now, why not flirt with her? Hidan and Obito didn't seem like the closest of friends. Why not get with Yugito? Unless he wanted someone easy, like Shizune. But if he has Shizune, why continue bothering her? Part of Rin knew why, but she was afraid of even thinking about it.
"Didn't that bother you?" she asked, "Your roommate trying to get your ex's attention?"
"It did at first, but then Yugito and I broke up. Honestly, I don't care if they got together. I'm actually surprised that he and your roommate are together considering the effort he put in trying to get Yugito's attention, but she never paid attention,"
"I see…" Rin said, glancing at Obito's ex very quickly. The blond woman was talking to Konan, and suddenly she looked back at Rin and smiled. Rin gave her a brief smile for some reason before facing Obito. "You must be feeling uncomfortable with her here then, and the things Shizune and Hidan were saying before,"
Obito slowly nodded his head, "Yeah, but I'm not going to let it get to me. I just want to make sure that you're OK,"
"Me? Well…yeah it's a bit awkward, to be honest. I wasn't expecting your ex to be here, or Shizune to start asking those types of questions," she then bit her bottom lip while saying the following with a low tone, "But just know that… I'm your friend and if you ever feel like you and Yugito want to resume things, it's OK. Nothing wrong with getting back with an ex,"
She felt as if she was betraying herself by saying that. But at the end of the day, she wanted Obito to know that she would be there for him no matter what.
His eyebrows furrowed at her statement and he shook her head, "Rin, my relationship with Yugito ended because neither of us really loved each other. She and I hold no resentment towards each other, nor are we friends,"
"Oh," Rin said, feeling stupid for even telling him that it was OK for him to date his ex again. He was a grown man. He didn't need her to tell him anything. "Sorry… I wasn't sure if you needed a friend today, considering that she's here and our roommates are making things super weird,"
He smiled down at her, "It's fine. Before you leave tonight, I want us to talk, OK? I want us to spend some time together... just you and me,"
Rin felt her heart pounding quickly with excitement. She could already guess what it was about, and he seemed excited about it too.
"OK. Maybe in an hour, we can go somewhere as you suggested?"
"I would like that. I'm going to help Kisame with something outside. His car engine is having issues. Want to come out with us?"
"Maybe in a few minutes," she said, "I'm going to eat something first. And then I can be out,"
"OK," he said before leaving, and Rin stared at him as he followed Kisame outside.
Everyone else was scattered around the house, and Rin turned around to see what food was left. She frowned upon seeing that both the chicken wings and pizza were gone. Damn. She headed towards the kitchen, nearly jumping within her skin upon finding Hidan there. He gave her a smirk.
"Hey, Rin! Having fun?"
"Hm," she replied, not wanting to get into any conversation with him.
"Oh, why the sour look? Is it because Yugito's here?"
"I'm just looking for some food," she replied, "Looks like it's all gone,"
"Nah, not all! Here's an extra box," he said, pointing by the microwave, "We ordered extra just in case,"
She wanted to thank him, but at the same time wanted to limit her words to him. She looked at the leftover pizza and frowned. It had pineapple on top. She was not a fan of pineapple on pizza. Luckily though, she wasn't too hungry and could wait later and buy something herself. Maybe Obito could accompany her. For now, she opted to drink water. She searched for a glass, and Hidan gave her one. She looked at it suspiciously.
"What!?" he said with a laugh, raising his hands up, "You don't trust me to give you a glass of water?"
Rin said nothing to that; grabbing the glass and filling it up with water.
"There are some leftover brownies in the fridge that Konan made yesterday," he also said, "Feel free to grab one,"
Tempted (who couldn't say no to chocolate), she turned around and opened the fridge. The brownies looked delicious, but this wasn't her house and she wasn't sure with taking something that wasn't hers.
"That's OK," she said, turning back around and grabbing her glass of water from the countertop, "Water is fine for now,"
She immediately exited the kitchen as Konan called her over for some card game. She agreed to play for some time, ignoring the strange look Shizune was giving her. Her conversation with Obito made her feel better. So at this point, she cared less what Shizune thought. Yugito moved towards the edge of the couch, patting the now empty space.
"You can sit here," she offered, and Rin sat next to her.
Rin felt a bit awkward sitting next to Obito's ex, so she finished the entire glass of water in order to calm her nerves.
Deidara pulled out the Uno card deck, and they all started playing. It was a large group and not enough cards, so Sasori offered to just watch. Despite her roommate being there, Rin felt happy playing the game. Yahiko would try to cheat by looking at Konan's cards. He, unfortunately, was the first one to lose. Some time afterward, Shizune stood up and mentioned that she wanted to head back to her apartment. No one really said anything aside from a faint goodbye, which made the short-haired woman frown.
"Will you take me home?" Shizune whispered to Hidan, who replied with a shake of his head.
"It's not that late. Just take the bus,"
Rin saw how his response made Shizune frown even more, and she had to stop herself from rolling her eyes. Did Shizune really think that Hidan was some type of romantic man?
With a sad sigh, Shizune left the house. The group resumed playing, Sasori jumping in now that Shizune was gone. Deidara shuffled the cards before handing them out. And as Rin got her new set of cards, she felt her head spin a bit. She took a deep breath and shook her head, telling herself that it was probably due to the lack of food. They played the sixth round, and Rin suddenly had a hard time making sense of the type of cards she had in her hands. She rubbed her eyes, the act not helping at all.
"You OK?" Yugito asked her, and Rin nodded absentmindedly.
Everything felt strange and she stood on shaky legs. Everyone looked at her curiously.
"You alright, Rin?" Deidara asked.
"I'm..f-fine," she replied, telling herself that maybe she just needed some water. She walked towards the kitchen, nearly bumping into Konan.
Everyone watched her, and eventually, Hidan stood up to follow her, "I'll check up on her,"
In the kitchen, Rin leaned against a wall. Her head was spinning fast to the point that she could no longer tell where exactly she was. Her legs felt weak, and she slowly started sliding towards the floor. Something stopped her from falling, and she felt her body leaning against something. It wasn't a wall. Did it feel like…a chest? Was someone holding her?
She opened her mouth to speak but heard someone say "Shhh" before whispering in her ear. "It's OK. I'm going to take care of you,"
Her eyes widened as she recognized that voice. It wasn't Obito. She panicked as Hidan's hands were on her hips, pulling her closer. She tried to yell, but her brain wasn't fully functioning. What was happening to her?
"What are you doing?" said a feminine voice.
"Helping her, of course!" Hidan said with a somewhat panicked tone, "Can't you see that?"
Rin, whose body was leaning on Hidan's, kept her gaze on the floor. Her body had nearly no control. So when she saw a blond figure appear, she mentally cheered.
"Let me check up on her," Yugito said, "She doesn't look well,"
"I got it,"
"Hidan, back off,"
Hidan laughed, "Why? You don't trust me?"
"I don't," Yugito said before calling Konan over, "I don't trust you around any female, Hidan. You're a fucking creep,"
He growled at her as Konan appeared, her eyes widening upon seeing Rin lying nearly unconsciously on Hidan.
"Is she OK!?"
Yugito glanced at Hidan before walking closer to Rin, "She seems to have been drugged. You should go get Obito asap,"
Konan nodded, rushing outside and calling the Uchiha over. Hidan rolled his eyes before pushing Rin towards Yugito. The blond woman caught the girl as Hidan stormed away, grabbing his keys and leaving the house. Deidara, Sasori, and Yahiko looked at each other confusingly as Obito appeared.
"What's going on?"
"Something's wrong with Rin,"
He looked at Konan confusingly before following her to the kitchen just as Yahiko, Sasori, and Deidara followed upon overhearing the conversation.
Obito's eyes widened upon seeing Rin being supported physically by Yugito, her eyes nearly shut.
"What happened?!" he asked, walking closer to them.
"She seemed tired about half an hour ago," Yugito replied, allowing the brunette woman to lean on her, "And about five minutes ago, she was nearly collapsing. Hidan was here at first,"
"Where is he?" Obito asked angrily.
"He just left,"
"Shit, is she going to be OK!?" Deidara asked.
Yugito nodded to him before looking at Obito. "You should take her upstairs to rest,"
He agreed and grabbed Rin, picking her bridal style. Her arms went around his neck, and she murmured something inaudible. His friends gave him space as he carried Rin upstairs to his room, Yugito and Konan following closely. Rin kept murmuring something, and Obito looked at her worryingly. He placed her on his bed, grabbing her hand as she blinked at the ceiling.
Konan and Yugito walked inside.
"What exactly happened?" he asked.
"She was playing cards with us and suddenly looked…tired," Konan said.
"She then went to the kitchen. Hidan followed her to check up on her,"
Obito's eyes narrowed at this, "Did he do something to her?"
Yugito shook her head, "When I got there, he was just holding her,"
Obito didn't seem convinced by that, and Yugito sighed. "He was…whispering something to her. Obito, you know I don't trust him. I followed him because I sincerely don't trust him around any woman,"
"Thank you for keeping an eye on her," he told her, "I just don't understand how Rin got like this. Did she eat something? Take one of Deidara's edibles?"
"She was just drinking water," Konan said, before turning her head to Yugito, "We should check the glass. Just in case the water was roofied or something,"
Yugito nodded, and Obito looked shocked. "Roofied? How is that possible?"
Konan went downstairs to inspect the glass as Yugito replied to his question, "It's not impossible. Either she's allergic to something we don't know about, or she got drugged. She was acting fine until finishing that water. No one saw her eat anything before or afterward,"
"Shit," Obito said, still holding Rin's hand. The brunette was facing him now, humming something tiredly.
"And seeing how she is right now… Obito, I'm sorry to say this, but I think she got roofied. Remember Annie, my old roommate? She got roofied and acted just like this."
"How… Who could've…" he sighed, looking frustrated and lost.
"I have my theories," she said, "But we won't know until Hidan comes back and you ask him directly,"
Konan came back with the glass which Rin had been drinking from, "It's really small, but I see some small chunks of white stuff inside,"
The room was quiet. Obito had the urge to run after Hidan and beat the hell out of him. The coward had run away just as Yugito caught him trying to do something with Rin. Obito wanted to kill him.
"Obito…" came Rin's soft voice, and he sat next to her as she tried to sit up, "My head's spinning… I should go home…"
"Rest, OK? I'll take you home tomorrow," he said before turning to the other two females, "Is there something we can give her?"
Yugito shook her head, "No. She'll just need to ride it out. We just need to make sure that she's OK throughout the night. Annie was mostly fine the next day. She just didn't remember anything,"
Obito nodded slowly, feeling responsible for Rin's condition. Yugito, knowing how he has for years already, knew exactly what he was feeling.
"Don't blame yourself, OK?" she said, "Nothing more happened to her. She'll be OK. Just have an empty bucket next to her in case she starts throwing up,"
"Good idea," Obito said, getting up. He stopped as Rin held onto his wrist.
"Stay, please…"
"I'll get the bucket," Konan said, exiting the room as Deidara poked his head inside.
"Is she OK?"
"I think so," Yugito answered, "This wears off after a day or two. But it also depends on how much was given to her,"
"Is Hidan back?" Obito asked angrily, an arm wrapped around Rin's frame as she rested her upper body over his.
"No," Deidara shook his head, "Kisame's been calling him. He isn't picking up,"
"Obito, I suggest you focus on Rin for the time being. I know we all suspect Hidan right now, but we also don't have concrete proof that he was the one who did this," Yugito advised.
Konan entered the room and placed the empty bucket near his bed. Yahiko also came in with three bottles of water and placed them on Obito's computer desk.
"In case she's thirsty," the orange-haired man said, "I'm also going to check our tap water just to make sure there's no contamination from the pipes,"
"I'm so sleepy," Rin said softly with her eyes closed, starting to remove her crop top.
Obito immediately stopped her, holding her wrists.
"I can help her get changed to something comfortable," Konan offered, quickly running to Yahiko's bedroom where she kept spare clothes.
"She can wear one of my shirts," Obito also said.
Yahiko and Deidara exited the bedroom to provide some privacy. Konan came back with gray sweats as Obito pulled out one of his black t-shirts. Yugito helped Rin sit up before looking at Obito.
"Are you going to stand there and watch an innocent woman become undressed?" she teased, laughing as he shook his head and placed the spare shirt on the bed before leaving the room and closing the door.
He leaned against the wall outside his room, thinking about Rin's condition. He was extremely worried for her. Yahiko called Hidan again, but there was no response.
"She'll be OK," Yahiko reassured the Uchiha, "We'll help you out. And we'll keep an eye out for Hidan. He can't hide for too long,"
"If he did this with the intent to take advantage of her…I'm going to kill him," Obito said angrily.
Yahiko couldn't blame Obito for wanting to beat Hidan up. Heck, he remembered the time he caught Hidan staring at Konan's ass. Hidan was a womanizer with no control. But this was the first time he tried (they all assumed, at least) something like this.
The door opened, Yugito and Konan exited.
"How is she?" Obito asked, slowly entering his room and seeing Rin lying face down on his bed. She wore Konan's sweats and his black t-shirt. The t-shirt made her look smaller.
"Passed out," Konan said, "We asked her if she was in any pain, but she just murmured about being sleepy,"
"OK," he said, rubbing his eyes.
"You should get some sleep too. You'll need your strength if you want to strangle Hidan," Yugito said, and Obito laughed. She wasn't wrong about that.
"I should get going now," Yugito said to all of them before turning to Obito, "Text me when she wakes up,"
"Thanks for your help," Obito told her, knowing that to anyone else the situation would've been bizarre; his ex-girlfriend helping the woman he now loves. But Yugito was never a bitter person, which made their breakup easy.
Deidara and Sasori left as well, dropping Yugito off at her dorm. Konan and Yahiko cleaned the living room up, saving the cup just in case. There was still no word on Hidan, which made him look guilty of drugging Rin.
Obito changed to his pajamas and laid tiredly on the two-seater couch in his room. He was too tall for it but didn't care. He preferred for Rin to be comfortable. She barely moved for the last hour, and he swiftly got up to check on her. He pulled her hair aside and listened to her breathing. She looked so peaceful despite being drugged. He had wanted tonight to be much different. He had planned on finally asking her out, not wanting to wait any longer. Their interactions, hugs… he was certain that she reciprocated his feelings. Maybe not to the fullest extent, but maybe something. She had come in dressed very beautifully. He had to resist the urge of kissing her when he decided to lift her up outside just a while ago. She was too adorable and he wanted her to be his. His brain just couldn't stop thinking about her.
But for now, he needed to wait. She will have a lot of questions when she wakes up, and he would be there to explain everything to her.
Sighing, Obito went back to his couch and laid back down to sleep.
