Here's chapter three, hope you enjoy! I do not own Stranger Things
Eddie
He couldn't really reconcile the oddness of seeing her in the passenger seat of his car, singing along to Metallica and playing with her hair absentmindedly like she was gossiping on the phone in some teen girl movie he wouldn't watch. She'd actually turned it up as they drove down the road, smiling easily like she didn't have a care in the world. He pulled into a small shopping center where the pizza place was. She spots the video store and grins. "They have anything good in there?"
"I guess.." He shrugs, not having visited the store much since Harrington had started there.
"Mind if I go check it out?" She asks, he pulls the van into a parking space close to the pizza parlor. "You'll be quick right?"
"Of course, I just want to see if they've got something." She gets out of the car and as she did her skirt rode up high on the side of her thigh, revealing just the bottom part of something black on her skin. He almost asked about it, but what couldn't have been a tattoo had disappeared as fast as it had appeared to him. "I'll see you in a bit!" he nods curtly, knowing he'd sound a little strangled if he spoke just then. She flashes him that hello kitty sweet smile again before shutting the door to the van and walking over to the video store. He tries to shake the sight from his head as he enters the parlor, cash in hand but the thought of his red headed siren didn't leave him.
Petal
She enters the video store and gives the handsome boy behind the counter a shy smile before she heads over to the section in the far back corner dedicated to horror. She let her eyes slide from film to film until a few caught her eye. Children of the Corn and The Slumber Party Massacre. She hadn't seen either but she'd read the book version of Children of the Corn and loved it. She picked up both tapes and made her way back over to the counter where she could see the handsome boy having a heated debate with his coworker. She recognized her from the band at school and gave a small wave to grab their attention.
"Hi" she smiles, putting her tape selections on the counter and pulling her wallet out of her backpack.
"Hi, are you sure you want these? They're a little scary-" the guy, his nametag reading Steve, said looking a little concerned.
"I know, I read Stephen King's book of this one" She taps Children of the Corn "I really loved it...and what can I say, sometimes you need a dumb slasher in your life." She gestures to Slumber Party massacre with a small smile.
"Oh...uh that'll be 5 bucks" He looks to his coworker who's got a close eye on her. "Are...are you Jason Carver's friend?"
"Cousin actually. I don't think he'd be willingly around me if he wasn't" Petal chuckles a little. "I'm Petal Carver" She holds the five out to Steve with a smile.
"I'm Robin" She smiles back and nudges him "This is Steve. So when did you move here?"
"Just a couple days ago...I'm still getting used to it."
Steve gives her a panty dropping grin as he leans over the counter just a little "Must have been hard on your boyfriend-"
"Not really since he doesn't exist" she giggles. She takes the tapes and puts them carefully into her backpack with her wallet and looks out to the parking lot. She's sees Eddie waiting at the van, leaning against the passenger door so he could see into the video store. "Shoot! My ride's waiting for me, I'll see you in school Robin! And it was nice to meet you Steve" She grins before rushing out of the store and out to the van.
Eddie
Eddie puffs at the cigarette in his mouth boredly, pretending he hadn't been watching her through the clear front doors of the store. Seeing Steve Harrington lean over the counter to talk to her, obviously being his flirty self. She comes out of the store with a smile on her face, "Ready to go?"
"Yep" He opens the door for her and once she's in he shuts it and runs around to the driver's side. "Get anything good?" He asks
"Yeah, I'll probably watch them tonight after Hellfire ends" She plugs in her seatbelt and turns to him, am I allowed to ask what they're facing?" She smirks "Or is that a surprise for all but the DM?"
"Let's just say their characters will regret every decision they've ever made" He puts the van in gear and drives out of the parking lot 'So what did you think of Harrington?"
"Who?"
"The guy in the video store"
"Oh Steve! He and Robin seemed pretty nice I guess. Why?" She asks looking at his slightly stoney face
"No reason" he shrugs and pulls up to the school again a few minutes later. She helps him carry in all of his hellfire materials while he carries in the food. They get into the theatre classroom and find no one there yet. She goes to turn the overhead lights on but he waves her off. "We use the stage lights" He turns them on and she giggles a little "Dramatic effect?"
"Maybe we just enjoy playing in the dark a little princess, after all it is Hellfire"
Shr rolls her eyes and helps him to set up the map and the figures "Shouldn't they be here by now?" She asks after a while and still none of the members had shown up. "They're always fucking late. So princess, you keep telling me how much you like tattoos-"
"This again!" She laughs as she tries to set up a rickety chair for herself.
"Well I was just wondering if you had any ink yourself, it'd be pretty unexpected."
"Not really, my dad used to own a tattoo parlor after all" She quips, not really answering his question.
"Did he? That explains it. So do you?"
"I may have one or two..." She's not looking at him, instead still struggling with the chair. She suddenly has a heavily ringed hand on top of her own "These are always broken princess." She blushes slightly and puts it back down. "Oh"
"Can I see one of your tattoos Petal?" He says almost huskily in her ear and she bites her lip at the closeness between them. He smelled like tobacco and miniature paints.
"S-sure" She stutters slightly. She takes a couple steps backwards and pulls her skirt up on one side to reveal her upper left thigh. On it was an open book with rose petals cascading down to just above her knee. "It's a little dorky..." She mumbles as she turns a little pinker.
Eddie's mouth has gone dry as he takes in the dark black ink covering her pale skin. "I think it's hot."
"Seriously?" Her voice comes out hardly above a whisper but he hears her all the same. "Definitely hot" He takes a step forward, almost tentatively "that ok?"
She nods with her bottom lip between her teeth nervously her fingers still holding the edges of her skirt. He's close to her now, her looking up at him, grey orbs meeting brown. "Is this ok?" His voice still coming out low and husky. She gives another shaky nod before his lips descend onto hers. She slides her fingers into his long hair and marveled at its softness until she felt his tongue sliding along her bottom lip. He'd wrapped an arm around her waist, pulling her flush against him while his other hand cupped her cheek. She let out a soft gasp when his hand slid lower but had no time to truly react as the door burst open to reveal Mike, Lucas, Dustin, and the three older boys.
"Dude!" Was chorused in disgusted groans but the one that stood out most to Petal was Dustin's who shouted "You've got a tattoo?!" She gasped again and slid her fingers out from his hair to push Eddie just enough so that her skirt slipped down to where it was meant to hang. "Shit!" She leaned against the table where he'd cornered her and looked in the opposite direction of the door as she blushed.
"Cool it boys." Eddie barked before smirking slightly "To be continued?" She nods, still blushing. He lets her go and gestures to the boys to grab food. "Maybe if you were on time we wouldn't be inclined to show off tattoos to kill time." He smirks at them. As they all milled around the room, getting ready for the campaign Petal pulled Dustin to the side "Sorry about that...I didn't mean...I"
"It's cool...I just didn't expect that when I invited you..."
"So you don't mind still teaching me?" She smiles
"Sure, I think Eddie would be up for it though" He teases playfully and she feels her ears turning a little red.
Hours go by
Petal watched with interest (mostly over Dustin's shoulder) as they played, slowly learning the absolute basics of the game and slowly came to the realization that it was just too much math for her to care about. She still laughed whenever the dreaded 1's were rolled. Still cheered with them when they beat back the advancing beasts Eddie had set them against. But she knew it wasn't a game she'd enjoy playing herself...she just didn't want to break the news to Dustin just yet. The end of the night came as the group sent a low level lich (undead spell caster) to its final grave. She giggled as the younger boys cheered like they'd just won a championship game over the board.
"First game real game with the group, it always gets them going" Eddie chuckles to the other older members. He starts to pack up his DM notes "Don't forget them this time" Petal says with a small smile as she starts to grab her own bag.
"Aw but then how will I get you to come sit with our table?" He teases, ignoring the slightly annoyed looks of his friends
"I'll still come sit with you guys...if that's ok with everyone else..." She meets eyes with Gareth who looks between her and Eddie for a moment before nodding somewhat curtly. "Of course, we don't mind having a pretty girl at the table." Eddie smiles sweetly at her and makes her blush yet again. Once the room was clean of all things D&D the group left, the boys grabbing their bikes and the older Hellfire members piling into Eddie's van. "You need a ride Petal?" Jeff called from the back of Eddie's van.
"It's ok, I don't mind walking home. It's not far-" Eddie gets out of the vehicle and waves her over "What kind of gentleman would I be if I let a fair maiden walk home alone at midnight?"
"A crappy one?" She asks
"Damn straight. I'll drop you off first before we head to Gareth's. His parents are out of town so we're doing a movie night."
He leads her back to the van and kicks Kieth out of the passenger side seat and into the back. "What are you guys watching?" She asks as she gives Kieth an apologetic look.
"Nothing you'd be interested in sweetheart. Texas Chainsaw Massacre" Jeff laughs and Petal rolls her eyes, a small smirk forming on her lips. Eddie puts the van into gear and drives down the road, honking at the three boys on their bikes as he passed them. She rolls her eyes but says nothing, picking blue nail polish off of her thumb. She's met with silence from the back as she shakes her head. "Have any of you seen it before?" She asks finally, breaking the silence and seeing Eddie grinning out of the corner of her eye.
"Yeah. But it's nice and bloody so it's always worth a rewatch." Gareth pipes up
Eddie does, driving a little more slowly as she points out she lives at the end of the road. "Thanks for the ride...even though I could have walked" She shoots Eddie a smile and heads up to the house, all of the windows were dark. There were no cars in the driveway.
"Hey Princess!" He calls through the open passenger window.
"What?" She's now standing on the porch, fumbling for her house keys in her backpack.
"You free tomorrow night?" She looks up at him bewildered but shakes it off.
"I could push some things back." She manages to find her keys "Pick me up at 6?"
"You got it princess." She turns to go into the house but sneaks a peak back at him before going into the now open door. He was grinning almost triumphantly and smacking the steering wheel to the beat of For Whom the Bell Tolls.
The house was empty and dark, Jason had gone out for the night to a party she'd heard about and his parents had a date night every Friday. She turned on the kitchen light and began to make herself a mug of tea, humming in the quiet of the house. She glanced at the clock, it was nearly one...she sighed and added sugar to her mug and tea bag. She put water in the kettle and set it on the stove, still humming when she heard a very small sound. It was almost a scratching sound. She stopped moving and listened intently, the silence seemed to intensify as she waited for the sound again. She heard it again, following the faint sound until she got to the kitchen door. She opened it slowly, peaking out into the darkness. Something darted in through the small opening she'd made. She looked down but it had already skittered past. She heard its claws tapping on the hardwood as it ran through the house.
"SHIT" She groans as she gives chase. She hears it in the living room and enters slowly, not wanting to scare whatever it was. "Hello?...Please don't be a rat" She says in what she hopes is a soothing tone.
She hears the skittering again under the couch and drops to her knees to look under. Her eyes meet a pair of almost glowing silver eyes.
