As Mai settled in for the night in front of the television with a warm bowl of popcorn and equally toasty pair of socks, she did not expect her caller ID to indicate Jounouchi of all people to be calling.
"Jounouchi, what's up?" she questioned as the call connected. The two more regularly stayed in touch via text message so the call was unexpected.
"Hey Mai," Jounouchi greeted. "I hate to bother you. But nobody else is picking up at this hour."
"What's going on?" Mai asked, curious.
"Honda and I were out celebrating my 20th and his bike broke down," Jounouchi replied. "We're stuck out here in the freezing cold."
"Well, that's not good," Mai responded. "I'm guessing you need a lift, huh?"
"Yeah," Jounouchi said sheepishly. "We'd cover gas of course!"
"Alright, listen, text me where you are, and I'll come get you," Mai replied.
"Thanks Mai!" Jounouchi exclaimed. Mai could hear him relaying the message to Honda in the background.
"Well, you're lucky I think you're cute," Mai said. "I don't venture out in the cold for just anyone."
Jounouchi chuckled. "I'm glad I'll get to see you tonight, Mai."
"Me too, Jounouchi," Mai said. "Now what's this about your 20th?"
