It was a bright, star-studded, moonless night, enveloped in the boisterous sounds of cheers and applause. The stillness of the night did not exist in the center of Wartwood, the houses were empty, its inhabitants were in the streets, cheering with emotion before the different artists who showed the best of their talents in the battle of the bands; some were highly inventive and fascinating, while others were simply a disaster for the ears and eyes. Either way, it had been a stressful week, and there was nothing better than this event to lighten the negative moods and paranoid.
But, while everyone was having fun to the sound of music, on the outskirts of town the atmosphere was totally different. In the Plantar family farm, the silence was accentuated in a strange way, almost ghostly, no animal made noise, and inside the dwelling, specifically in the living room, was the reason for the expectant silence of the world. A table was overturned on the floor, smeared with the remnants of makeup from a currently broken box next to it, and among the chaos of the pile of beauty products scattered on the floor, two girls creatively disguised as insects were on top of each other, faces as red as the petals of a rose, staring at each other without daring to blink, they didn't seem to really breathe, paralyzed in too compromising a position.
—I-I… —One of them wanted to speak, but the words simply refused to come as she stared at her friend's beautiful face. "How did I end up like this? " she wondered, they were just getting ready for the battle of the bands, putting on the finishing touches before their performance, but she got nervous applying lipstick to her partner, and in turn, the other girl got nervous when she had to do it too. But the youngest was clumsy, and could not control herself, it only took a light brush of her fingers against her friend's lips, so that all her senses were impaired, causing her to crash into the table and fall on the floor. It was too late when she realized that her nerves dragged her partner with her.
Snapping back to reality, they both tried desperately to get away, move and pretend none of this had happened, but the warmth of their touch was too oppressive, and the haze of their mixed emotions didn't help at all.
—Can I kiss you?! —they said at the same time, shouting with their eyes closed and their cheeks even redder, and it was two seconds, the time it took for them to realize that they didn't think it, but said it openly.
—Oh me…
—Well... I...
They were both surprised and confused, more knowing that the desire was mutual, they didn't say a word, deciding that the action would be their answer. The first kiss was a simple peck, nothing too extravagant and strong like in romantic novels or movies, but then there was another, and another, until the taste of they lips filled them with trust, and their union became even more intense and passionate. The kisses were longer and more rhythmic now, separating only to breathe and then repeat. It was fascinating to them how easy this was, how good they were even though they had never kissed before, maybe it was the deep love they felt that camouflaged their passionate awkwardness, maybe this was something they had waited for so long to care whether it was perfect or not, they just enjoyed the moment, nothing else mattered now.
But sadly, things don't last forever, and their kisses had to end when her lips began to ache, and her lungs demanded more oxygen. The gasps now filled the silence, they were sitting on the sofa looking at nothing, with a blank mind, thinking what they should do now, the heat of the moment disappeared and there was only room for logic.
—I think we need to give up lipsticks...
—Y-yeah...
Then the door to the house burst open and both girls nearly fell over (again) from the shock. A blonde-haired stern-eyed girl emerged into the room, covering her forehead with her left hand as if she had a horrible headache, muttering to herself.
—Where the hell were you?! You shift is about to start and... —but her scolding died deep in her throat, as she contemplated the mess on the floor, and especially the marks of blue and green lipstick mixed on their faces, with a greater prominence on they lips—Wha-what... —Her eyes widened, followed by a deep red that was painted on her cheeks, she tried to order her thoughts and say something, but her words found no place in her vocal cords.
—Hey... Sasha... —one of them greeted very nervously, making an effort to smile—We just... —she turned to her black-haired companion begging for help, she was the smartest of the three, she could say something convincing to explain this awkward situation.
—We were just... testing the taste of our lipstick? —But she couldn't think clearly in moments of pressure, and she said the first thing that came into her head, being the opposite of what she should have said, however, somehow, her answer seemed to ease the expression on the face of her blonde-haired friend, but the red of her cheeks was still present.
—Oh... I see... —she said, averting her gaze a little, scratching the mole on her cheek with her index finger, time seemed to pass very slowly until she spoke again—Can I... —She hesitate—...Can I taste too?...
That was more than enough for the silence to return in the room, the crimson completely spread over the faces of the three girls, they looked at each other, then they avoided their eyes, they wanted to say something, but in the end they stayed dumb. They repeated the process for a time that seemed eternal. So, the two teenagers nodded and that was it, the blonde joined them on the sofa, smiling with determination but at the same time with a slight trace of nervousness, the wind closed the door, leaving to the imagination what would happen inside those walls... it should only be said that none of the three would appear at the concert.
