Ah Valentine's Day, a time of year where love spread through the air, joining the fragrance of sweets and flowers, the sound of laughter and tears, hearts dancing by kisses and hugs; for some a magical and special day to be with that loved one, for others a horrible day that reminded them of their failures. In the case of Anne Boonchuy, today was the day that she finally got her feelings out on the air and told that special person what she really felt, however, the problem was that it was not one but two people, and who else if not her childhood friends Sasha Waybright and Marcy Wu, a disaster, but she couldn't help it, they were so beautiful and intelligent, they could do things that she could never do, by her side she felt that the world was at her feet and nothing could stop her from moving forward. She had been in love with both of them for as long as she could remember, and while they had had their issues in the past, their mutual personal growth had brought them closer together than they ever were, causing those feelings to grow exponentially until it drove her crazy to ignore it, but each look, each conversation, each gesture or show of appreciation was too much for her poor heart to forget what she really felt. Then she decided that she couldn't keep those feelings any longer, she had to or she would die, she knew she could repent, in the best case they would say no or only one would reciprocate... in the worst she would lose them forever.
—You can do this —she encouraged herself, moving through the throng of young lovebirds that reigned in the halls of Saint James High School, clutching two pieces of chocolate wrapped in pink and green paper respectively. Reaching an emptier area of the lockers, the brown-haired teenager could see in the distance the two people she was looking for.
—Anne! —Marcy was the first to notice Anne approaching, greeting her profusely with an intense gleam in her eyes.
—You're finally here —Sasha greeted waving her left hand, turning her eyes to her phone for a moment before putting it away and arranging her backpack on her shoulder next to Marcy's bag. Neither of them seemed to notice how nervous Anne looked.
—H-hey girls —she stammered discreetly looking in various directions, feeling how all her courage abandoned her, she had planned this in advance, the moment, what she would say, but now having her two lovers in front of her, she didn't know what to say, she had gone blank—Damn!
—Uh...Anne? Are you OK? —She hadn't realized how silent she was until Sasha snapped her out of her thoughts.
—Y-yes I-I'm fine hahaha don't talk nonsense Sasha —Anne waved her hand nervously avoiding making eye contact with either of them.
—Are you sure? —Marcy chimed in—You look... strangely red.
—What?! —she almost screamed, covering her face with her hands—God I'm a mess, I can't do this, I have to get out of here, if I must... —but her wave of thoughts was interrupted by a sudden force that pulled her back, more specifically a pair of arms that clung to her as if they knew what she wanted to do.
—Okay, what's going on? —Sasha spoke holding Anne a little closer in case she struggled to free herself—You've been acting very strange today.
—Whatever is bothering you, we'll help you, you know you can tell us anything —Marcy added, hugging Anne as well, although with less force—You've been avoiding us all day...
—If we did something to upset you...
—No! —Anne finally spoke, she couldn't allow her fear to spread to her friends too—No, you haven't done anything wrong...
—So what is it?
—Well… —She thought about it carefully, she was still considering the idea of escaping, maybe making use of her blue powers… however, somehow, that hug she shared with them, the warm and calm closeness, told her that she had nothing to lose—Would you... uh... would you like to go out with me on... I don't know... a date? —and then everything was silent, she couldn't hear anything but the strong beats of her heart and her agitated breathing. Sasha and Marcy's looks were indecipherable, and Anne came to think that she had ruined everything, this was the end, they would see her as insane and would move away from her forever, however, her answer came sooner rather than later, in form of two raucous laughs that brought her out of her thoughts; she looked at them perplexed, a "no" would have been better than this.
—Oh Annie, is that why you were so nervous? —Sasha laughed harder, patting Anne's shoulder lightly.
—Of course we'll have a date, I mean it's Valentine's Day after all! —Marcy exclaimed along with a nod from Sasha, both of them intertwining their fingers with Anne's giving the teenager an affectionate look.
—W-wait, I think... —Now the young Thai woman was very confused, this was not at all what she expected, were they making fun of her?
—We can go to that new ice cream parlor next to the park!
—No Mar-Mar, this is Anne's turn, let her decide —her turn?
—It's true. Where are we going, Anne? I imagine you already had something planned.
—Yes, as romantic as you are, I'm sure she has something big —Sasha smiled, starting to walk with Marcy towards the exit.
—W-wait a minute —Anne stopped they—Do you understand what I meant, no? —They looked at her confused—I-I… I like you a lot and… I… —She took the small pieces of chocolate out of her pocket handing them to each one of them—I would like to go out with you two! I know it's weird that I like both of you, but I can't help it or choose just one, I know it's selfish of me, but they're so great and I just... —the mixture of emotions was such that she couldn't help it cry right now.
—Wow wow easy girl —Sasha rushed over to Anne embracing her once more, cradling her in her arms until she was completely relieved.
—I'm sorry… —She sniff against Sasha's chest holding tightly to the fabric of her jacket.
—Okay, you have nothing to apologize for… —Marcy hugged her therefore, together they crushed Anne in a hug much more apprehensive than the previous one.
—It's okay if you don't feel the same way about me... —Anne muttered—But I don't want them to stop being my friends because of that... I know it will be awkward, but we can pretend this never happened and...
—Now stop right there. Who said we didn't want to go out with you? —Sasha cut her off before Anne fell once more into her spiral of conflicting emotions.
—Actually, we thought we were already dating.
—W-what?! —Anne let go of the hug looking at her friends with a mixture of emotions so great that she could faint—What do they mean?
—Well... as Mar-Mar said —now Sasha got nervous—After Amphibia and everything you told us in the hospital a year ago...
—We thought it was a confession... —Marcy confirmed with the same nervousness as Sasha, Anne's eyes almost flew out of their sockets, she didn't remember any of that.
—It can't be, I... Y-you... I-I... —She didn't know what to say, and if she thought about it carefully everything made sense, that explained why she felt such a sudden change in their proximity, the looks and affection that made her feelings of love for them return, she couldn't believe it, she had been dating her friends for a year and she didn't know it! she felt like a complete idiot—God I can't believe it… I've been racking my brains for telling you how I felt… when somehow, I already had URG! —Sasha and Marcy patiently watched as her girlfriend? ranting uncontrollably, they could agree that she looked so cute when she was angry.
—Hey Anne —the former named stopped her complaints to herself by turning to her... friends? with a mixture of fear and uncertainty in her eyes—What if instead of continuing to complain about it, we go to that date you had planned?
—I don't have a problem staying at school late... but it's Valentine's Day and I really want to hang out with you guys somewhere else...
—Aren't you upset that I literally didn't know anything about our courtship until now?
—No? —Sasha shrugged—I mean it's not those things have changed much... other than that we misunderstood your words...
—But, in the end you confessed, and we reciprocated —Marcy finished, taking Sasha's hands inviting Anne to join.
—I have a lot to make up to you two —Anne accepted the invitation, walking with her girlfriend's hand in hand to the high school exit.
—And where do we go?
—After this, I'm too tired to walk too much. How about watching a movie at my house?
—I like the idea.
—Yessss!
And so, the three young girls walked away from the institution, excited for their special night, spreading the beauty of their mutual love in the air like rose petals or little imaginary hearts that danced like stars, for Anne maybe things did not turn out as she expected, but it was definitely much better.
Written for last Valentine's day, I think romance is no longer one of my strong suits xD
