Epilogue

Tango watches her companion sleep. There are no nightmares twisting up his face, his breathing calm and expression peaceful, but still she worries. She worries about the Dark One who walks through shadow, the burst of conflicting emotion he brought. Worry, shock, happiness, guilt—all of those could lead to unknowns, but for now he was quiet. For now everything was well.

Tango knows that will not last. She worries about the Nice Girl, her bruises faded, but the fear of her brother remaining. She worries about her companion's siblings, so far away, so close to danger. She worries about the One Who Hurts and how often he haunts her companion's dreams. He is quiet now, but he will not remain quiet for long, and the Dark One knows more than he's willing to say.

Tango settles down on her companion's chest, tail swishing. It is peaceful now. Peace will not remain. Whatever happens, she is going to be here to protect her companion and his loved ones, no matter what.
