The Rune of Severance

~The symbol itself is two intersecting eyes in the shape of a cross.

~It is a powerful sigil that's capable of many different things, with all of them revolving around the central aspect of severance.

~Its power comes from intent and can be extremely difficult to master.

~Usage of this symbol is not limited to supernatural entities, as mortals can also utilize it after enough practice.

~It can sever the very fabric of reality to open a rift between dimensions, such as how it was used to open pathways through The Crawlspace at The Matheson Farm.

~It can be used as a locking or unlocking mechanism on almost anything physical, digital, or supernatural. One notable example is how it was used to keep Lauren Jones trapped within Oakside Park.

~The symbol can also be used as a weapon or defense mechanism in certain situations, but it can only do so much against the more powerful entities.

~Severance Sigils can be destroyed by normal means, but they produce a memetic effect that stops most people from removing them. Only those with a strong will and enough mental fortitude can successfully break a severance rune, but almost anybody can utilize them.

~It was by using The Rune of Severance that Habit was able to sever Firebrand from The Slender Man's control, saving him from servitude and enabling him to wage war on The Enemy.

~Perhaps the most dangerous aspect of The Rune of Severance is how entities like The Observer are capable of using it to spy on people, hence the intersecting eye symbolism. Any existing severance rune is a potential wiretap.

Frieda's Summoning Ritual

~In the Fall of 1900, Frieda Matheson performed a ritual that summoned the Slender Man to The Matheson Farm.

~Very little is known about this ritual, only that it involved a circle of stones under the willow tree in the farm's graveyard. To this day, the dirt within the stone circle is scorched and blackened.

~This conjuring was what led to the fall of The Matheson Farm, the deaths of most of the people who resided there, and the haunting of the Matheson and Hayes bloodlines.

Project Jötunn & The Event

~Project Jötunn was a top-secret Nazi operation in Germany's Black Forest. Its purpose was to capture and weaponize The Slender Man while also studying him and harnessing his power for The Third Reich.

~The Nazis were very interested in old legends and mythology and came to the forest after hearing rumors of a creature known as Der Großmann, which was one of The Slender Man's many identities.

~While The Nazis did manage to lure Slender Man into a trap, what they didn't realize was that he was just toying with them, letting them perform their studies and experiments while he slowly tore them apart from the inside.

~The entity known as Habit had some degree of involvement with Project Jötunn as part of his old agreement with The Slender Man.

~Project Jötunn and everything surrounding it eventually resulted in a multi-dimensional, reality-shattering event that disrupted the very fabric of time and space, leaving almost everyone involved with it dead or worse. It didn't last long, but it was something the likes of which the world had never seen before. The incident came to be known simply as The Event. What happened that day was something far beyond mortal comprehension.

~The true nature of The Event, as well as a few other sociopolitical factors, are the reason it was never recorded by historians and was eventually lost to time.

~Project Jötunn and The Event were responsible for the augmentation of Sebastian's Journal, an artifact that is greatly desired by Slender Man and The Collective because of the unimaginable power it possesses. For more information on Sebastian's Journal, please see Chapter 08.
