When he arrived at Coruscant he was greeted by the Jedi temple sending him a message that he was cleared to land on the eastern platform.
He was met at the boarding ramp by a jedi master with long silver hair and a squadron of clone troopers.
"Good day," the Jedi opened. "I am master Cin Drallig, it had been many years since a diplomatic envoy had been sent directly to the Jedi Temple. And to my knowledge an envoy from Mandalore is unheard of, what brings you to this place?"
He was trying to be polite but that annoyed Jaune, he didn't want to be treated politely because he was his mother's messenger boy.
Jaune explained. "I am here on a two fold assignment, I am to deliver this to the Jedi council" he said handing the message stick to master Drallig. "and I have a message for Master Kenobi."
" I will call the council for you if you would please follow me." as Drallig spoke he pressed a button on his communicator that most likely alerted the council. As they walked through the halls he saw that master Drallig seemed distracted and wasn't in fact watching him.
Feeling a little insulted by this, Jaune chose to slip away when the chance presented itself. He saw an open door and when he looked inside he saw that a redheaded girl was training a room full of children. With a sly smile at the off focus Drallig Jaune silently stepped into the room and leaned against the wall.
He was watching the lesson for a few minutes before he grew bored of not being seen. "Bravo," he said, clapping as everyone's head snapped around to look at him. When the girl saw his armor she tensed.
That was good if she knew what he was then she was less likely to raise a fuss over his sudden arrival. "Though I will say you are being too light on them. How will they learn if you do not reward success and punish failure." one of the younglings stepped forward as if to speak but was cut off when Jaune said. "Your elders are talking, hold your tongue." when he went to speak anyway he was quickly backhanded across the face by Jaune gauntlet. Jaune took great care not to cut the boy, only striking him with the flat back of his hand and not dragging the slap. He wanted to sting the boy not scar him.
Jaune heard the entire room gasp when he struck the child. Whatever they were expecting him to do it wasn't that. The boy was about to speak again when he seemed to think again and step back.
"Very good you've learned something. Here" Jaune said, tossing the boy one of his many knives.
For her part the redheaded girl seemed to have finally overcome her shock at him hitting one of her students. She tried and failed to press a button on her communicator without him noticing. "I do not know who you are but I think that you should leave." she said, putting herself between the children and him. She was trying to look brave but Jaune could see the fear in her eyes. A fear that made little sense. He had seen her drilling; she knew how to fight but for some reason she was afraid.
Have you ever killed before?" Jaune asked.
The way that she seemed to be more on edge answered his question. "Well I have," he continued. "In fact I am known as the Gundark of Concord Dawn because of how good I am at killing."
"The Gundark of Concord Dawn" said a voice from behind Jaune. When he turned he saw none other than Jedi master Qui-Gon Jinn. "I once knew a man called the Gundark of Concord Dawn and he was much older than you."
The implication was clear. He didn't believe Jaune's claim. "I'm sure you did but I killed that man almost two years ago. I have been the Gundark ever since."
That got Qui-Gon's attention. He could use the force to see that it was true. And that was worrisome,"let's go for a walk, friend." Qui-Gon said.
Jaune figured that this was a good way to find his father and beside that fact he had some things that he wanted to discuss with master Qui-Gon. They left the room and made their way to one of the gardens "you are master Qui-Gon Jinn correct?" Jaune asked.
"Yes I am and you are Mandalorian. What are you doing in the Jedi Temple?" the master asked.
Placing his hand over his chest in mock horror. "Am I not welcome," leaning in a little closer he whispered. "In my father's house."
Qui-Gon's face showed no signs of shock but that may have simply been his ability to hide such things.
"Who is your father?" he asked.
"You don't already know?" the response earned a slight chuckle from Qui-Gon.
"I have never been one for the code but I would never expect my padawan to disregard it," he said, still walking in the direction of one of the major trees in the garden but that didn't stop his talking.
"in truth I have made my mistakes and I have broken the code because I wanted to on several occasions." Jaune looked at him like he was waiting for an explanation so Qui-Gon leaned in a little closer and explained. "I have a daughter of my own."
Now it was Jaune who was shocked. He had heard of Qui-Gon being a loose cannon but the fact that he had broken the code and seemed to think nothing of it was shocking. "Where is this daughter now?" Jaune asked, hoping to keep a dialogue going.
"At the moment she sits on the throne of Mandalore."
It took Jaune several seconds to figure out exactly what was being said. And when it clicked he was speechless. If what Qui-Gon said was true then Jaune was talking to his grandfather. He hadn't given much thought to whether or not he was force sensitive but given that both his father and grandfather were then the odds said he was too.
Just as he was about to ask about that he saw two men sparring in the garden. His research done on the way here told him that one of them was his father Obi Wan Kenobi and the other was Anakin Skywalker.
They stopped sparring when they saw Master Qui-Gon. "Master who do you have with you?" the older man asked.
"This is the son of the duchess Satine Kryze" when the man's eyes grew in size by at least a factor of two then Jaune knew that this was his father.
"What form were you practicing?" Jaune asked. He was aware that the Jedi had seven main forms of combat and he knew the names and uses but he was unable to identify which one his father was using.
"Form three Soresu," Obi Wan answered, looking intently at Jaune as though he was trying to see into his soul.
"I was afraid of that, Markan did warn me," Jaune muttered.
"How do you know Markan?" Obi Wan asked, wondering how Jaune could have known the different forms as well as one of the few men that he and Qui - Gon trusted during the Mandalorian civil war.
"I fought alongside him during a recent campaign on Tanrak seven, he explained that he heard you became some manner of pseudo pacifist." Jaune half snarled, clearly unimpressed by his father's choice of forms.
quickly turning to Anakin Jaune asked him. "Please tell me you're my father, I'm begging you."
Anakin threw his left hand out defensively, answering " I have no idea who you are but there is no way that I am your father, I'm way too young for that. Sorry kid but I am not your father"
This sent Jaune into a string of Mandalorian obscenities that nobody but Qui- Gon could follow. When he was done, a seemingly frazzled master Drallig approached master Qui-Gon. he was about to speak with the master about Jaune when he saw him.
trying to keep his composure he half growled. "The council is almost assembled now if you would please follow me," he led Jaune to the council chamber where everyone was gathered.
…
Master Yoda was the one who opened the meeting. " Young one, from Mandalore you are, wonder your business here I do. please speak your peace."
Recognizing one of the most powerful Jedi in the galaxy Jaune bowed slightly "I believe that master Drallig was given the data stick that I was to bring to this council." Jaune explained.
"then why are you still here?" Master Windu wondered aloud. his tone was untrusting but not accusatory and Jaune respected him for it.
"I was tasked with making sure that it was received by the high council. Just because I trusted master Drallig to perform a security check on it does not mean that I will not see my task through to the end." Jaune answered respectfully.
Master Windu seemed to approve of the answer and used the force to insert the data stick that had been in his pocket into the reader in the center of the room. Jaune stepped back in order to not obscure that hologram of the duchess of Mandalore.
"Noble Masters of the Jedi order. The clans of my people have ruled to hold a tournament to crown the new Mandalore. This matter would normally be of no significance to you however Clan Jinn is still recognized and needs to send its representatives to either compete or withdraw. I'm afraid that if they don't it will cause a massive uproar on the matter. I hope you will make a sound and swift choice on this matter."
The message ended and Jaune did his best not to show his shock. a new Mandalore. This was his chance. If he won then he would be the youngest Mandalore in history.
"It seems my former Padawan did a less than proper job divesting himself after his mission was completed." Master Dooku said from his chair. "I say that we send him and Kenobi to sort this matter out post-haste."
There was murmuring from the council but Jaune wasn't listening. He was seeing himself in the best of armor, polished like the sun. A heavy blaster in one hand and a short sword in the other. Mandalore the ruthless that was what they would call him.
when he saw master Windu stand he snapped out of his vision. "Go to Mandalore, Qui-Gon and Kenobi must," Yoda said, walking for the door. Jaune followed the aging master out and after a few steps master Yoda spoke. "Wish to speak to me you do?"
"Yes," Jaune answered. "in private if possible."
Yoda made a sound that Jaune could only describe as mischievous before leading him into the master's personal quarters. "speak in private we may." Yoda said once the door closed.
"I suspect that I am force sensitive," Jaune said. He had heard many things about master Yoda including how he seemed to be a little looser with the rule of the order than others.
"Yes, sensed that power we did, though you being unaware of it is unexpected. surely you have experienced matters that are in some way beyond understanding." Yoda asked.
"I have reaction times that seem impossible at times. I've had amazing luck at times. but I've never moved things with my mind or seen into the soul of another person." Jaune answered.
"lack training you do but too old to bring into the order you are." Yoda explained.
"Then I'll simply need to find a teacher," Jaune countered. He could see that master Yoda was weary of that choice.
"many who may claim mastery of the force there are, few tell the truth. even fewer have control to use the force and not be used by it. best left for desperation such paths are." the small green master explained. "Powerful you are, trained you will need to be but not by me nor in the ways of the Jedi. there are two who can teach you the responsibility of the force and the way of your people in unison."
"Masters Qui-Gon and Kenobi," Jaune muttered, accidentally interrupting the master.
"yes, yes," Yoda replied. "training young Skywalker Qui-Gon is, learn from your father you must."
Jaune nodded, agreeing, turning to leave and only realizing the depth of the master's words at the door. "When did you learn that I was Obi-wan's son?" he asked.
Yoda chuckled mischievously "learned from you, just now I did."
smirking at the wisdom and trickery of the elder Jaune left the room to go find his new teacher.
