Chloe's Contest Debut
"And here is Top Coordinator Wallace putting on a lovely display!" A woman who looked remarkably similar to Lilian took a bow while beckoning for a rather fashionable man to step forward. His turquoise colored hair was quite an odd sight as Chloe had never seen an individual with that style of hair before. Though he had rather remarkable taste in clothes the man also had quite an intimidating presence that could be felt through the Rotom Phone screen. Chloe was sure that the man was more than just a simple Coordinator.
"Milotic my dear, it's time to shine!"
"Milo!" The beautiful water serpent burst from it's ball in a colorful light as hearts were briefly visible around her before gradually fading away.
"Use Hydro Pump!"
"Milo!" She cried with a rather melodic tune before lifting her head as she shot a powerful stream of water into the air above!
"Now follow up with Blizzard!" Milotic flickered her tail causing a fierce blizzard to appear on the contest field, freezing the water stream solid with Milotic quickly reaching out to grab the falling ice spear with her tail, grabbing a tight hold of it before lifting it above her as she uttered another melodic cry!
"Milo!"
"Amazing, another wonderful display from Top Coordinator Wallace! Stay tuned to the Contest News Circuit for details on the next Wallace Cup location!"
"Wow that's a cool Pokemon!" Ash couldn't help but look over Chloe's shoulder as she watched various Coordinator performances on her phone to help her get an idea as to what she was supposed to do. He pulled out his own Rotom Phone and scanned the water serpent, he remembered seeing it at the Sensational Sister's water show but he was too distracted to scan it at the time.
"Milotic the Tender Pokemon, Milotic is said to be the most beautiful of all the Pokemon. It has the power to becalm such emotions as anger and hostility to quell bitter feuding!"
"Wow, you should catch one of those I think that it'd suit you!"
"Pi Pikachu!"
Chloe blushed lightly as she flashed him a light smile. "Heh, thank you but I heard that Feebas are quite rare to come by even in regions they're native to. The odds of one ending up in the Kanto region are probably next to nothing!"
"You never know you might wind up getting lucky, I mean I caught a Treecko and Brock caught a Croagunk so nothing's impossible!" Ash grinned.
"I suppose but it's best to not get one's hopes up." Chloe shrugged before looking across the waiting room. They'd obtained their Contest Passes a little over an hour ago, allowing them entry into the Cerulean Contest and now they were waiting for the show to begin! The receptionist had been a cute girl so they didn't exactly have the chance for Brock to wish them good luck as Croagunk had Poison Jabbed the poor guy once more! Across from them were the three Sensational Sisters who were surrounded by a few excitable male Coordinators, Chloe was silently thankful that Ash wasn't acting like a complete goof like those guys were.
The doors to the hall shortly opened up as 'Jessilina' made her entrance, Ekans slithering alongside her. Chloe couldn't help but narrow her eyes. "What's she doing here?"
"Hm?" Ash looked up before curiously tilting his head as his gaze focused on Jessilina. "Friend of yours?"
"What? No! That's obviously Jessie of Team Rocket!" Chloe hissed.
Ash and Pikachu tilted their heads once more before shaking their heads. "Sorry but I just don't see it."
Chloe and Eevee narrowed their eyes at that and turned their gaze back towards Jessie before the waiting room's monitors lit up as Lilian took to the stage! "Good morning Cerulean City, are you ready for today's performances?!" The crowd cheered loudly before she continued, holding up a light blue and green ribbon. "Today's prize is the Cerulean Ribbon and will go to the Coordinator that wins the final round! Now remember keep it clean, any means of sabotage will be meant by instant disqualification! Now allow me to introduce you to our judges, Mr. Contesta."
"Good to be here everyone!" The man offered a warm friendly smile as he waved to the crowd.
"Mr. Sukizo,"
"Remarkable!"
"And of course Cerulean City's own Nurse Joy!"
"Hey everyone," Nurse Joy smiled as she gave the crowd a light wave.
"And without further ado, let's begin the appeal round! First up will be one of Cerulean City's Sensational Sisters, Daisy Waterlily!"
Daisy rushed on out and threw a ball into the air as she took the stage.
"Milotic use Rain Dance then use Ice Beam on the clouds!"
"Milo!" Milotic cried out a melodic tune as rain began heavily downpouring upon the contest field, the beautiful water serpent raised her head and fired a beam of ice into the rainclouds above the field causing snow to begin dropping down upon the field, covering it in snow while the crowd let out a cheer!
"10, 10, 10! Perfect score all around!" Lilian cried out. "And now for our next performer, Jessilina!"
"Out of my way, time to show the crowd what true beauty looks like!" Jessilina pushed Daisy aside as she rushed through the doors, quickly taking the stage as Ekans slithered after her.
"Alright Ekans, Wrap!"
"Ekans!" Ekans hissed out before wrapping his body around Jessie, tightly squeezing her as he would against a Pokemon.
"N-Now launch me into the air!"
"Ekans!" Ekans hissed out, using his body like a spring as he bounced off the ground before releasing Jessie causing her to fly up towards the roof before she'd begin falling back down.
"Catch me Ekans!"
"Ekans!" Ekans leaped up and wrapped himself around Jessie before landing safely back on the ground, releasing his grip on her while some of the crowd and even fellow Coordinators silently watched while lightly sweating at the rather unique performance. Though a good amount of the audience cheered showing that Jessilina did indeed have fans and not a small amount either as they could be heard throughout the hall!
"Well that was... unique." Lilian sweated before turning to the judges. "8.5, 8.5, 9. Pretty great score! Next up is newcomer Ash Ketchum!"
"Good luck Ash," Chloe called out.
Ash flashed her a smirk as he quickly made his way onto the contest field, Pikachu leaping from his shoulder and landing in front of him as the raven haired boy shouted out. "Splishy Splash!"
"Pika!" Pikachu raised up his arms as he summoned the large electrically charged wave of water. The audiences and judges gasped out the sight, even Lilian herself couldn't help but drop her jaw at the sight! The large wave came crashing down, covering the ground with sparks for a brief spell before the judges updated their scoreboards.
"10, 10, 10! A perfect score, we have no idea how Ash pulled off that marvelous attack but it was definitely quite something!" Lilian cried out. Ash nervously rubbed the back of his neck as he lightly chuckled. Chloe tilted her head at the sight before coming to the conclusion that she wouldn't be able to rely on Sappy Seed or Sizzly Slide, if she utilized them every single appeal round eventually they'd lose their appeal. She'd have to add to the attack like Wallace and Daisy had done.
"Alright Dewgong, use Signal Beam!" While Chloe was entranced by her own thoughts, Lily Waterlily had taken to the stage! Dewgong clapped his flippers together and barked before a colorful rainbow light fired from his mouth. "Now use Ice Beam!"
"Dewgong!" Dewgong clapped his flippers as he fired a beam of ice at the colorful light, breaking both attacks apart and causing a colorful explosion of light and ice!
"9, 9.5, 9.5! As always the Waterlily sisters never fail to disappoint! Next up is newcomer Chloe Cerise, come on out here!"
Chloe shook nervously as she rose from her seat, Ash took her head and offered her a light smile. "You'll be great out there Chloe, you've been studying other Coordinator's techniques and if somebody like me who had little to no exposure to Contest appeals until today received a perfect score, then I imagine that you'll do even better than me!"
"...that's not actually possible given you can't go higher than ten on the judging scale but thanks," Chloe offered him a warm smile as she pulled away from him and made her way out onto the field, Eevee following close behind her. However Chloe didn't appear to be starting with Eevee as she reached for a Pokeball. "Sakura, let's put on a show!"
"Freee!" The crowd let out an amazed gasp at the sight of the pink Butterfree!
"Use String Shot then follow up with Confusion!"
"Free!" Butterfree fired strands of white string from her mouth, her eyes glowed a bright blue color as it slowly started coming to a halt. The string lifted up and flew through the air before landing on the ground in the shape of a heart as Butterfree landed in the center and cried out!
"Wow, that was quite something."
"Pika." Ash and Pikachu breathed out at the sight while the crowd cheered loudly.
"8.5, 8.5, 8.5... not bad for a beginner!" Lilian offered Chloe a smile. Chloe bowed lightly in appreciation before taking her leave as the last of the Coordinators would take their turns.
Chloe watched the screen in anticipation as the final Coordinator finished up their appeal. Lilian clapped her hands together as she spoke up once more.
"Alright now if you direct your attention to the screen, you'll see the eight lucky Coordinators who'll advance into the Battle Stage!" Chloe clenched her fists as her attention was focused on the screen. Daisy and Ash's faces appeared first before being followed by Lily, Jessie, Violet, two other Coordinator's that Chloe didn't catch the name of, topped with Chloe herself!
"And there you have it folks, now we'll be starting the Battle Stage in just a few moments but first let's match up our opponents!" The images began shuffling around before pairing Chloe with Jessie and Ash with Violet, while Daisy and Lily got paired with the remaining two trainers.
"Well looks like we'll be going out there first, twer-Chloe. You should feel honored to lose to the great Jessilina!"
"Oh cut it out Jessie, I know it's you." Chloe glared.
"Chloe that's not Jessie, sorry ma'am she's just confused." Chloe narrowed her eyes at Ash while wondering how he couldn't see through the disguise. Jessie similarly looked confused before shrugging it off as she walked away.
"Well looks like I get to battle one of the Sensational Sisters after all, I can't wait!" Ash clenched his fists while Pikachu copied him with a similar excited expression.
"Pika pi!"
"Alright Coordinators, you ready to begin the Battle Stage?" Lilian asked in an excitable tone.
"You know I was destined for this, I won the Pewter Contest and I'll win this too!" Jessie clenched her fists as a cocky smirk spread across her face.
"She sure is getting a big head." Meowth muttered with narrowed eyes as he and James watched from the audience, cheering their friend and partner on.
"She does know that she can't rely on Ekans forever right? Her technique will grow stale and repetitive." James frowned.
"Oy vey, I hope she doesn't make me go out there." Meowth shivered at the thought of her making him act like a fool.
"Ekans be a dear and take the stage for me will you?"
"Ekans!" Ekans hissed out as he slithered onto the contest field.
"Nidoran, let's do this!"
"Nido!" The female Nidoran burst from her ball, narrowing her eyes at the poison snake as she stood across from it.
"Ekans use Wrap!"
"Ekans!" Ekans leaped out in an attempt to wrap himself around the small rodent!
"Knock him back with Fury Swipes!"
"Nido!" Nidoran fiercely clawed at the air, pushing Ekans back and preventing him from wrapping himself around her! "Now use Poison Sting!"
Nidoran began firing off multiple darts of purple poison at her opponent, knocking Ekans back even further as a sizeable chunk was removed from Jessie's scoreboard. Jessie's eye twitched before she threw out an arm. "Ekans use Bite!"
"Ekans!" Ekans lashed out and sank his fangs into Nidoran's skull which was admittingly a foolish move on Jessie's part.
"Poison Sting!"
"Kans?!" Ekans hissed out before he was blasted across the field, landing on his back in defeat as purple poisonous darts continued flying through the air!
"What?!" Jessie stomped her feet with an agitated look while the judges scoreboards updated to show large red X's indicating that Ekans was out of the competition!
"This is an outrage, return Ekans! We'll win a Contest where judges have better taste in talent!"
"Way to go Nidoran!" Chloe cried out.
"Nido!" A bright blue light suddenly engulfed her body causing the crowd to let out a cheer while Chloe's eyes widened from amazement at the sight.
"Y-You're evolving..."
Nidoran began doubling in height while spikes began forming across her backside, long fangs stuck out on both sides of her jaw while her body began transforming into a bipedal form as her front legs started resembling arms.
"Nidorina!"
"Nidorina the Poison Pin Pokemon, if a group is threatened, these Pokemon will band together to assault enemies with a chorus of ultrasonic waves!"
Chloe's Rotom Phone read out as Nidorina's data was registered into the Pokedex.
"Way to go Nidorina, I bet Nidoran's proud of you!"
"Nido!" Nidorina cried out before frowning as she became worried that it'd affect the relationship the two Pokemon had with one another with him remaining a Nidoran at that current moment.
"I bet it won't be long until our Nidoran's ready to evolve!" Ash excitedly clenched his fists as he watched from the waiting room.
"Pika!" Pikachu copied his trainer as both were looking forward to having a Nidorino on their team!
Ash and Chloe watched as both Daisy and Lily won their respective rounds, advancing into the semi-finals leaving Ash and Violet to finish off the first portion of the Battle Stage!
"Alright looks like we're up, Pikachu!"
"Pika pika!" Pikachu flicked his tail before following his trainer out onto the stage where Violet stood waiting for them. Violet flashed Ash a teasing smirk as he approached.
"You know I may not look it but I'm far stronger than Misty, you won't win simply by taking me out. You've got to focus on your technique and use beautiful attacks!"
"Don't you worry about me, worry about yourself! Pikachu and I have been on a roll lately and we don't intend on losing!"
"Pi Pikachu!"
"Fair enough I suppose, Lapras take the stage!"
"Laaaa!"
"Alright Pikachu let's start off with Splishy Splash!"
"Pika!" Pikachu raised up his arms causing the massive electrically charged wave to form beneath him! A sizeable chunk of Violet's score was removed as a result.
"Ice Beam!" Lapras quickly fired off a beam of ice, freezing the attack solid while a good chunk of Ash's own score was subtracted! Pikachu nervously looked down as he was trapped atop the frozen wave.
"Pika..."
"Break apart the ice with Thunder Shock!"
"Sing!" As Pikachu's cheeks started to spark, Lapras uttered out a melodic tune that caused Pikachu's eyes to begin drooping shut shortly before the mouse collapsed against the frozen wave as he fell fast asleep!
"Pika... chu..."
The ice started to melt before breaking apart, the wave broke apart and sent Pikachu falling to the ground!
"Pikachu!" Ash quickly dove forward to break his partner's fall, Pikachu landing directly into his arms. Ash's remaining score was substracted due to the combined effect of the failed move and fall however resulting in Violet coming out as the winner with the crowd cheering loudly for her! Violet took a bow before extending her hand to Ash with a light smile.
"Word of advice, don't use that attack against somebody with Ice attacks."
"Heh, lesson learned." Ash wasn't too upset by his loss, he was only competing for fun after all. Besides he was bound to lose sooner or later!
"Your attention please," Lilian spoke up causing them to turn to give the MC their attention as she spoke up. "With the first round finished off it's time to see who'll be facing off in the semi-finals!" Lilian gazed up at the screen as Chloe, Daisy, Violet and Lily's images began shuffling around before Chloe and Lily were paired up while Daisy and Violet were paired against each other!
"Well sis, looks like we're about about to battle!" Daisy smirked.
"Let's give them a good show shall we?" Violet grinned.
"Good luck. You'll like need it," Lily offered Chloe her hand as a light smirk spread across her face.
"Thank you, good luck to you too!" Chloe didn't appear phased by Lily's words.
"And with that Daisy Waterlily advances into the final round, who'll join her will it be her fellow sister Lily or newcomer Chloe Cerise? Let's find out now!" Lilian threw up her arms as Chloe and Lily took to the stage.
"Dewgong let's go!"
"Dewgong!" Dewgong clapped his flippers together as he burst from his ball.
"Eevee, I'm counting on you!"
"Eevoi!" Eevee leaped out onto the field, flicking her tail as her gaze focused upon her opponent.
"Confuse Ray!" Lily giggled out.
"Dewgong!" Dewgong's eyes glowed yellow with Eevee's eyes turning a similar color before she swayed back and forth with a dazed look.
"Eevoi..."
"Eevee stay strong, use Shadow Ball!" With the experience gained from defeating the Omastar swarm, Eevee had managed to learn a new attack! However that wasn't the attack Eevee used, Eevee tilted her head as she wondered what her trainer had meant. She then began stretching out her body as she prepared to use Sappy Seed!
"Oh no..." Chloe clenched her fists and watched in fear as the massive vine burst from the ground and went straight through the roof of the contest hall!
"Like wow... I didn't know that was a thing..." Lily's jaw dropped while the judges looked up in terror at the size of the hole the attack had made! Lily then let out a frightened gasp and leaped away as seeds began dropping and exploding like nukes! Dewgong cried out as he was blasted back and forth before eventually being flung right out of their as his limp form landed before the judges, swirls in his eyes as he groaned out.
"C-Chloe you win, can you call off your Eevee?" Lilian shivered as she cowered behind the judge panel with the other officials.
"S-Sorry!" Chloe quickly rushed out and stuffed a Persim berry into Eevee's mouth causing the Pokemon's eyes to return to normal. Eevee then looked around in shock before looking to her trainer with an apologetic expression.
"Eevoi..."
"It's not your fault Eevee, don't worry about it!" Chloe offered her a light smile as she pet her head.
"W-Well that sure was something, eh folks?" Lilian nervously laughed. "S-So I guess Chloe and Daisy will be facing off in the finals! D-Daisy mind coming out here?"
Lily returned Dewgong and quickly made her way off the stage with a frightened look. Daisy soon took her place and flashed Chloe a light smirk.
"That sure was something, what do you call it? Sappy Seed?"
"Y-Yes actually..." Chloe sweated while Daisy rolled her eyes lightly and silently shook her head.
"Milotic let's win this!"
"Milo!"
"Sakura let's give Eevee a break!"
"Freee!" The two Pokemon gazed at one another as they burst from their Pokeballs.
"Use Ice Beam to slow her down!"
"Milo!" Milotic fired a beam of ice at Sakura's wings causing the Bug to shiver as a small chunk of score was removed from Chloe's side of the board.
"Sleep Powder!" Blue powder flowed from Sakura's wings before she fluttered her wings, creating a gust of wind that sent the powder flying straight for Milotic! Milotic's eyes began to droop before fully closing as she uttered a rather melodic sounding snore!
"Milotic wake up and use Water Pulse!" Daisy cried out only for Milotic to continue to snore as a decent chunk of their score was removed!
"Confusion!" Sakura's eyes glowed bright blue as a similar glow surrounded Milotic's body, lifting the water serpent up before slamming her body hard against the ground!
Milotic's eyes fluttered for a brief second before closing shut as Daisy clenched her fists.
"Use Water Pulse!"
"Milo..." Milotic peacefully snored off.
"Confusion once more!" As Milotic's body lifted from the ground once more her eyes slowly started to open up, her gaze focused upon Sakura before blasting her with a blast of water causing Milotic to drop while Sakura was knocked away!
"Ice Beam!" Milotic fired off a beam of ice, evening the score as both had a quarter of their points remaining! Things were getting close to a finish here and Sakura was nowhere near strong enough to defeat Milotic properly!
"Sakura use Sleeping Powder and then send it flying towards Milotic with Confusion!" Butterfree's eyes glowed as she sent glowing blue powder flying straight towards Milotic! The attack hadn't struck but the combination had been enough to remove points from Daisy's board causing Chloe to win the final round as the crowd cheered loudly with Ash and Brock cheering the loudest.
"Well it looks like newcomer Chloe Cerise has managed to win her very first Contest and quite an... interesting debut to say the least." Lilian sweated as she looked towards the roof's massive hole before flashing the audience one final smile. "The next Contest will be held in Saffron City in two weeks but until then this is MC Lilian signing off."
Mr. Contesta began approaching Chloe and the girl couldn't help but shake lightly as she feared that he'd shout at her for the damage that she'd unintentionally caused. However the man merely flashed her a smile as he held out her ribbon. "No need to be nervous, it was an accident! That was quite some attack though."
"Remarkable!" Mr. Sukizo chimed in.
"T-Thank you..." Chloe nervously smiled while feeling rather relieved as she reached out to take hold of the ribbon before turning to Eevee as she showed it off. "O-One ribbon down, four to go!"
"Eevoi!" The two shared looks of excitement as they wondered what future Contests would be holding in store for them as their adventures continue!
