The Birth of Mewtwo
Far away from Kanto, an expedition team ventured through the jungles of southern Unova. It had been quite some time since the team left Kanto and were sent traveling the world in the hopes of picking up some Mew DNA. They already knew what they were getting into as nobody had seen Mew in hundreds if not thousands of years, at least as far as they knew. Most of them didn't have wives, husbands or even lovers to go home to so the fat paychecks they received on a regular basis was a great incentive to keep them going. However as their search started to near a decade long adventure, some were beginning to grow crazy as they craved companionship while others simply wanted to find a bar.
"This is pointless, we're never going to find Mew!" A large bulky man roared out as he sent his fist crashing against the walls of the ancient ruin causing quite an alarm as the walls and ceiling began crumbling around them!
"What did you do?!" One of his associates angrily shouted as he leaped away from some falling rubble.
"We're gonna die!" Another expedition member screeched out.
"Mew?" A soft cry could be heard as a small blue feline Pokemon appeared, cloaking his presence to the expedition team. He'd been passing by when he heard some ruckus coming from his old home, he went to investigate as he wondered if perhaps his sister left her post only to discover a bunch of strange men and women snooping around! Mew's eyes darted about and took in the sight of the crumbling ruin, their old home was going to be a bunch of rubble and rock soon but he wasn't going to let these men and women die! Mew's eyes glowed bright blue as a bright blue bubble surrounded the expedition team who were too busy cowering in fear to realize what was happening. The ruins would soon cave in completely while the expedition team remained safe within Mew's protective bubble. As soon as everything settled, Mew dropped the protective shield and was quick to fly off before his presence was discovered.
However unbeknownst to Mew, one of his sister's fossilized eyelashes just happened to land right into the hands of one of the expedition team members! The man's eyes opened to discover a rather strange looking artifact laying right in the palm of his hand and upon scanning it with his deceive he was greeted by a message that simply registered it as unknown data!
"Eureka! I believe we may have found part of Mew, somebody get Madame Boss on the line!"
"On it!" One of the others held their Pokegear up to get some service. "Calling... now!"
"Hello?" The expedition team let out an alarmed gasp as they were greeted by the voice of a man and not Madame Boss! "Who is this? How did you get this number?!"
"Uh wrong number sorry, we're trying to contact Madame Boss!"
"Don't say that you idiot!" The man smacked his expedition team partner upside the head. "Everyone knows she's the leader of Team Rocket!"
"You're part of Team Rocket? Well then you answer to me now, Madame Boss died a few years ago so that puts me in charge."
"Wait... Gio-?"
"Don't say my name, who knows whose listening in to this! Where are you anyways? My computer tells me your signal is incredibly weak and I can't get a lock onto your location."
"The jungles of southern Unova, we're tracking down Mew DNA as per your mother's orders! Her and Dr. Nimba-"
"It's Dr. Namba!" A man angrily shouted from Giovanni's side of the call before the Rocket boss pushed him aside.
"Whatever, they were planning to do something with it. We don't know what, outside our paygrade."
Giovanni turned towards Dr. Namba and gave the Team Rocket scientist a questioning look. "This isn't anything I outlawed, is it?"
"Oh no sir," Dr. Namba hastily waved his hands as he frantically shook his head. "No Pokemon will be killed and there's no use of illegal substances whatsoever!"
Giovanni crossed his arms as he sat back against his office chair. "Alright then, explain. What is it that my mother had planned?"
"Well you see sir we were modifying the technology utilized to revive fossils in order to clone Pokemon and I assure you that the test was a complete success!" Dr. Namba retrieved a laptop and brought up an image that showcased a Charmander, Squirtle and Bulbasaur with strange markings! "We were able to clone an entire Pokemon from just a singular strand of DNA!"
An impressed look formed on the man's face. "Impressive, most impressive but what does that have to do with the expedition team? Why would they travel across the globe and risk traveling unexplored territory? Most importantly what warrants paying them ten grand a week?"
"Well you see she had this idea to clone Mew and weaponize it for a global takeover!"
Giovanni frowned as he was against the idea however upon recalling something he overheard a few years ago he realized that perhaps Mewtwo was just what they needed to fight against what was to come in the possible future!
"Alright then this experiment has my official stamp of approval however we can only clone one! One is plenty to control, having an army just risks the wrong people getting their hands on it."
Giovanni crossed his arms and silently shook his head as a bunch of pink blobs laid inside of massive test tubes. Every test so far resulted in failure as all they produced were a pink blob Pokemon whose only known ability was the power to transform into other Pokemon! Madame Boss would likely have these Pokemon executed as they were failures however Giovanni wasn't so heartless, he knew of an abandoned mansion on Cinnabar Island where the Pokemon could reside in peace and perhaps some trainers might find it in their hearts to give them a forever home!
"Cassidy and Bill-"
"It's Butch!" The cyan haired Team Rocket member angrily shouted out. "How many times do I have to tell you peo-Oh hey Boss, sorry didn't know it was you!" Butch nervously laughed as he apologized.
Cassidy nervously chuckled as well as she fully expected them to be punished for Butch's outburst.
"Take these Ditto and dump them at my old mansion on Cinnabar Island!"
"T-That's all?" Cassidy questioned with a raised eyebrow.
"No, after you're done there's this daycare in Saffron City that I want you to stake out. Can you do that?"
"Sir yes sir!" The two gave their boss a salute.
A few weeks later and after a few adjustments, the experiment was a success as a small purple feline Pokemon could be seen floating within a large test tube!
Giovanni smirked as he placed his palm up against the glass of the tube. "Hello Mewtwo and welcome to the world of Pokemon!"
The feline's eyes opened up briefly before closing with Giovanni being the first thing he saw. 'Father...'
The next morning Giovanni ventured down to check on his experiment only to let out a surprised gasp, his coffee cup fell and shattered against the lab floor as his eyes fixated upon what appeared to be a fully groan Pokemon! Mewtwo's physical appearance was quick unlike the small 'cute' feline Pokemon that ancient text described the Pokemon, instead Mewtwo towered over Giovanni by a good foot. His body was also a bit muscular and bulky, his facial features looked quite intimidating and his piercing purple eyes were anything but cute! His insanely long purple tail pushed him against the glass as he'd outgrown his test tube!
"D-Dr. Namba!"
"Yes sir-Holy moly! He got big fast!" Dr. Namba's jaw dropped as he entered the room.
"We're gonna need a bigger test tube, armor too... I want to take him out on a trial run."
Mewtwo wore a rather large and bulky black plated set of armor, the arm plates stuck out and honestly resembled a mech. The Pokemon barely resembled Mew at all with the armor plating and although that wasn't Giovanni's intention it did come in handy if some passerby happened to see them. The armor's true purpose was to read out Mewtwo's power and give Giovanni a good idea just how powerful the Pokemon was, he may be a clone of Mew but he was only a few days old at that point.
Giovanni and Mewtwo stood in a large open range, Giovanni stood safely to the side as Mewtwo's gaze remained firmly locked ahead. "I'm ready father,"
Giovanni smirked and silently tossed a Pokeball forward, releasing a powerful looking Rhydon that uttered out a vicious sounding roar as it's eyes locked with Mewtwo's!
"Attack!" Giovanni ordered.
Rhydon lowered his head and rushed forward as the drill atop his head began rapidly spinning! Mewtwo simply lifted his hand as Rhydon began lifting off the ground!
"Rhy?!" The rhino Pokemon's eyes widened in terror, his arms and legs frantically moved about as he levitated through the air before Mewtwo lowered his hand resulting in Rhydon plummeting to the ground, leaving a large crater as he crashed into it! Giovanni rushed forward to check on his partner, a smirk swiftly formed as Rhydon groaned out. Giovanni returned his Pokemon to his ball before whistling out, summoning his horde of Tauros who came charging towards Mewtwo!
Mewtwo turned and instinctively raised both hands, effortlessly lifting all fifty of Giovanni's Tauros into the air! Giovanni's eyes widened and a sinister smirk slowly began to form across his face, although his intentions for bringing Mewtwo into this world may have been good he'd started falling into a trap that most individuals fell into upon receiving immense power! The man rubbed his hands together as he watched Mewtwo send the Tauros flying off into the distance where they'd land safely within the nearby lake.
"Excellent... now for the final test, Persian attack!" Persian had been resting on the sidelines and soaking in the sunrays until now swiftly stood up, uttering out a light yawn before racing forward as his claws glowed a ghastly shade of black-purple!
"Meow!" Persian raked his claws against Mewtwo's face, shattering the armor and piercing the skin beneath! Giovanni watched on before backing up in surprise as Persian's claws didn't leave a mark on Mewtwo's cheeks! In fact Mewtwo didn't look the least bit concerned about the attack as if Persian merely tickled it! Mewtwo lifted up his hand and sent Persian blasting off into the air as Giovanni slowly clapped his hands together.
"Well done Mewtwo, well done! I'm sure that in time we'll be able to track down Mew and capture her as well!" Giovanni had a greedy look in his eye as he began growing power hungry, he had a taste of power but it wasn't enough. He needed more!
"Mew?" Mewtwo questioned with a curious tilt of his head.
"The Pokemon you're descended from, one of the few Pokemon that could be more powerful than you!" Giovanni greedily exclaimed. "If I had you both I'd be unstoppable!"
"Stronger...? Am I not enough...?" Mewtwo frowned.
"Toise!" Gary's Blastoise was hurled through the air by Mewtwo whose armor had been fully repaired and refitted upon his frame, keeping the Pokemon's true appearance hidden from Giovanni's challengers.
Gary let out a startled gasp as Blastoise laid upon his back, swirls filled the Water type's eyes as he laid in defeat. "H-How could this be?! I-I've beaten every other Gym this region has to offer yet you beat me with a singular Pokemon? How?!" This was definitely a blow to Gary's massively inflated ego and left the boy in a state of shock.
Giovanni merely smirked. "You're welcome to try again later if you wish," He offered in a mocking tone. It was quite unlike him to behave in this manner, usually he was respectful of his opponents and kept Pokemon such as Mewtwo safely hidden away but his hunger for power overwhelmed his other senses and he wanted to show off his new found power!
"Y-You're darn right I will!" Gary returned Blastoise before rushing out of the Gym to try and come up with a strategy. "I won't rest until I have all of the Indigo League badges!" He also planned on keeping his embarrassing loss a secret for the time being. His cheerleaders were notably absent from the whole ordeal as Leaf had finally chased them off for good following Sabrina's capture of her and Gary.
Giovanni hadn't caught Mewtwo yet as he planned on capturing him in the Master Ball, which he brought to fruition for the sole purpose of capturing Mew! However after he was forced to destroy the prototype and shut down production he had to come up with a new method of convincing Mewtwo to enter a Pokeball as lately the Pokemon began questioning him while growing concerned over events happening throughout the world.
"People killed Cubone and Marowak to sell their skulls?! You people actually eat Slowpoke tails?! Disgusting!" Mewtwo honestly didn't know what was worse, keeping the Slowpoke alive while the tails were chopped off, sure they'd grow back but it was still a painful ordeal! Or straight up killing Slowpoke to chop off their tails. "Humans are making Lapras and other Pokemon extinct... this isn't right, not right at all." Mewtwo clenched his fists as anger flowed through him.
What really set Mewtwo off however was camera footage of an incident that happened not that long ago, a certain blue haired boy kicking and abusing a Charmander who wanted nothing but to please his trainer only to receive violence as a reward and punishment due to his loss. The incompetent trainer refused to take the blame and pinned it on Charmander instead, taking it out on the poor Pokemon! Mewtwo slammed his fist against the computer monitor and let out an enraged shout.
"How could people let this happen?! All this senseless violence, Pokemon deserve better! How did humans ever wind up at the top of the food chain anyways? They're powerless without us, we could easily destroy them if we wanted to! Heck the world needs a Pokemon as it's ruler to set things right! I'll take on the role and make those troublesome humans know what it feels like to be enslaved, they'll only live to serve the needs and desire of us Pokemon! I can't do it alone though, I'll need an army... and the Pokemon of this world are too brainwashed to help me." Mewtwo's eyes darted towards the cloning machine that birthed him. "Yes... that's the answer! If I can't find an army, I'll make one!"
Mewtwo levitated towards the machine but before he could fiddle with it a large test tube dropped from the ceiling and trapped him within! "What? Who dares?!"
Namba smirked as he stepped out from the shadows. "You've truly grown too knowledgeable for your own good, I'm afraid that I must eliminate you and start over. Nobody betrays the boss or even considers it without paying the price!" Namba hit a button and Mewtwo uttered out a cry as electricity flowed through the tube and electrocuted him! Mewtwo screamed in pain while Namba flashed a sinister smirk.
"Hehehe..."
Boom! The lights went off within the lab as the power went out.
"Huh? What happen-?!"
Crash! Mewtwo shattered the test tube and angrily fired a series of Shadow Ball attacks at the lab's machinery. "I'll have to thank my savior but first time to ensure that you can't repeat what you did with me!"
"Stop you fool, you'll kill us all!" Namba shouted in terror as he couldn't even see his demise coming!
"You perhaps but I'm invincible!" It's a shame Giovanni wasn't there but that just meant Giovanni could live and wind up serving as Mewtwo's personal servant! A loud explosion could be heard as the building blew up, Mewtwo swiftly flew out and scoped the area before spotting a Zapdos who'd been draining a powerplant to recharge. Apparently the actions of Zapdos along with Namba draining a severe amount of electricity resulted in a large blackout, meaning that Zapdos saved Mewtwo's life. "I must thank him!"
It was a matter of days for Mewtwo to enact his plan, transforming a small deserted island not far off Kanto's shores into a massive towering fortress that served as his hideout! Mewtwo's enhanced intelligence allowed him to copy the machinery that Dr. Namba utilized however he'd decided against cloning himself, there was too much at risk if he did so. It'd be much easier cloning and influencing Pokemon of powerful trainers! There was no way he'd trick potential trainers to visit his island if he used his own face, no he needed a puppet and he seemed to know the perfect one! There was something about Nurse Joy that was so charismatic and made people trust her, he'd simply kidnap one from a nearby island and brainwash her into becoming his servant! Then using her as a puppet, he'd be able to trick challengers into coming here in the hopes of beating 'The world's strongest Pokemon trainer!'.
Mewtwo sent out an army of drones to traverse the nearby area while even sending a few afar as he hoped to locate potential trainers. Sure he could invite trainers such as Cynthia, Rex, Diantha and Alder but they all had busy schedules and would likely refuse or get suspicious enough to investigate and potentially ruin his plans. No, younger more naïve trainers were the perfect candidates for the job!
Mewtwo's first drone went to the Viridian City Gym where Gary could be see in a heated battle against Giovanni as Mega Blastoise stood up against Giovanni's Persian! Persian was breathing heavily and nearly out of breath as Gary let out an eager shout!
"Skull Bash!" Blastoise lowered his head as he charged at his opponent with the feline Pokemon uttering out a pained yowl as he was pinned against the ground before swirls swiftly filled his eyes.
"Meow..."
"Alright, I told you that I'd beat you! Probably why you didn't even bother using that mystery Pokemon, you knew I'd come up with a clever strategy to beat it!" Gary boasted while Giovanni had a sour look at the mention of his former partner. He had a calmer head now that Mewtwo was gone but that didn't mean he was over it's mysterious disappearance! Archer was sure the Pokemon met his demise but Giovanni wasn't so easily convinced, knowing that the Pokemon had to be out there somewhere and he'd find it someday!
"He's quite cocky but he'll do!" Mewtwo's eyes then darted towards a brunette girl who excitedly threw her arms around Gary as she pulled him in for a hug. "Interesting... apparently his girlfriend is just as smart and powerful as he is! We'll invite her as well!" Mewtwo handed a holographic device to a Dragonite who proceeded to salute Mewtwo before taking off as he went to invite Gary and Leaf to Mewtwo's lair.
Mewtwo then turned his attention towards a drone that somehow ended up in the Hoenn region. Mewtwo tilted his head before watching on as a purple haired teenager engaged in battle against who Mewtwo recognized as the Elite Four member Drake. A Mega Salamence was engaged in a battle against an Flygon and although he put up a good fight the trainer didn't last long!
"Pathetic," The trainer spat out in disgust as he returned Flygon to it's Pokeball, showing poor sportsmanship as he turned his back to Drake and left without shaking his hand. "We didn't beat a single one of his Pokemon!"
"Curious..." Mewtwo looked into the rather disrespectful boy and smirked upon seeing his battle records. "He's quite a strong trainer... though he appears to regularly release Pokemon that disappoint him. He's a perfect candidate, no doubt his Pokemon are eager to turn against him and join a more worthy master!" Mewtwo smirked.
Mewtwo watched more footage and decided to invite the hotshot trainer and favorite to win the Indigo League, Yellow as her battle records were quite impressive and Mewtwo truly believed that she'd be the one to win this year. His Future Sight foresaw that she was in the finals and that was enough for him!
"'ight Inteleon use Snipe Shot and kick Urshifu's arse to next week!" Mewtwo turned his attention towards one of the wayward drones and watched as an eager brunette girl engaged in battle against a large black and white bear Pokemon that took a fighting stance. Both Pokemon towered above their trainers and from what Mewtwo could tell the battle was quite close as both trainers were on their final Pokemon, an impressive feat as the old man's aura indicated that he was quite a powerful trainer and most likely a champion?
Urshifu tanked the blow and swiftly retaliated with a massive wave of dark energy, overwhelming Inteleon as a bright purple light surrounded the Water starter!
"Noooo! I can't come this far only to lose now, no no no!" Gloria tossed her hat to the ground and began angrily stomping on it as the drone began bleeping out every other word that came out of her mouth!
"She may be hotheaded but she did well to get that far, no doubt she'll be eager to prove herself and accept my challenge. Okay I think that's enough-Hold on, what's this?" Mewtwo turned his attention towards a screen as he saw a certain raven haired boy engaged in battle against a pirate themed Pokemon trainer.
"You there, you're Ash Ketchum right? The name's Captain Jack Spearow and I'm here ta challenge you to a Pokemon battle!" The pirate trainer eagerly exclaimed.
"Alright, I accept your challenge!" Ash eagerly exclaimed as Brock and Chloe gave each other a silent look and shook their heads as a smile crossed their faces. They'd just woken up and were about to make some progress towards Pallet Town but they knew Ash was never one to turn down a challenge!
"Chatot, let's do this!"
"Let's do this, squawk!"
"Whoa did that bird just speak?!"
"Pika pi?!" Ash and Pikachu gasped out while Ash quickly fished for his Rotom Phone.
"Chatot the Music Note Pokemon, it can learn and speak human words. If they gather, they all learn the same saying!"
"Pupitar I choose you!"
"Pupitar!" Pupitar burst from his Pokeball.
"Fury Attack!"
"Counter with Rock Slide!"
"Pupitar!" Before Chatot could move a series of rocks appeared in the sky and rained down on top of him!
"Squawk, I'm out!" Chatot cried before losing consciousness, swirls filled his eyes as his body laid beneath the rocks.
Jack returned Chatot to his Pokeball and fitted it back upon his belt while reaching out for another Pokeball. "Aipom, let's do this!"
"Ai ai, Aipom!" A purple monkey with what appeared to be a hand shaped tail burst from the Pokeball and cheerfully cried out!
"Whoa, I've never seen that Pokemon before!" Brock commented.
Ash excitedly reached for his Rotom Phone once more to scan the monkey Pokemon.
"Aipom the Long Tail Pokemon, Aipom's tail ends in a hand-like appendage that can be cleverly manipulated. However, because the Pokemon uses its tail so much, its real hands have become rather clumsy!"
"Pupitar return, Primeape I choose you!"
"Primeape!" Primeape rapidly punched at the air as he burst out of his ball!
"Close Combat!"
"Prime!" Primeape leaped up into the air before pinning Aipom against the ground where he proceeded to rapidly smack his fists against Aipom's body! Aipom let out a pained screech before groaning out as swirls filled his eyes. Primeape leaped off the downed Pokemon and uttered a disappointed growl before smashing his fists against each other as he awaited Jack's next Pokemon!
"I almost forgot just how feisty Primeape can be..." Chloe softly spoke out.
"No kidding!" Brock exclaimed.
"Prime!" Primeape snorted out as he grew impatient.
"Aipom return, Donphan let's go!"
"Donphan!" Ash's eyes lit up as a medium sized gray elephant-like Pokemon appeared before him!
"I've got to get one of those!"
"Pika..."
"Donphan the Armor Pokemon, Donphan's favorite attack is curling its body into a ball, then charging at its foe while rolling at high speed. Once it starts rolling, this Pokemon can't stop very easily!"
"Rollout!"
"Don don don Donphan!" Donphan curled into a ball and rapidly spun in place before shooting towards Primeape!
"Close Combat!"
"Prime!" Primeape lashed out and grabbed hold of Primeape's trunks, grunting out as he kept the Pokemon locked in place though Donphan continued to roll about as he fought against Primeape's grasp! Primeape summoned up his strength and hoisted Donphan upwards into the air and as the elephant began falling downwards Primeape was quick to leap up and bring his fist crashing up against Donphan's face! Donphan's eyes went cross as he broke his form and went crashing towards the ground, forming a light crater as he now laid in defeat with swirls forming within his eyes.
Jack Spearow let out a surprised gasp and returned Donphan before making a hasty retreat towards the nearest Pokemon Center.
"That has to be the worst Pokemon trainer I've ever seen!" Mewtwo remarked before turning his attention back towards Ash. Although his opponent wasn't enough to get a true taste of Ash's strength, Mewtwo sensed a great and powerful aura emitting off of Pikachu, Eevee and surprisingly Croagunk! "Curious, those three might be precisely what I need for my army!"
A few hours later as Ash and his friends stopped to eat, Mewtwo's Dragonite friend came down from the sky to deliver Mewtwo's challenge.
Charizard let out a threatening snarl and blocked Dragonite's path as he thought him a threat. Dragonite merely blinked at Charizard before offering him the holographic device. Charizard tilted his head and turned around to hand it towards Ash before flicking his attention back towards Dragonite.
"Greetings Ash Ketchum," A hologram of a beautiful woman dressed in robes appeared before them and hearts were quick to fill Brock's eyes!
"Whose she? She's as beautiful as an angel..."
"I'm not sure but she sure looks familiar." Chloe commented while Ash was fixated upon the woman's words.
"My master, the world's strongest trainer, wishes to invite you to his retreat on New Island where you'll be offered the finest cuisine and the opportunity to battle against him! Do you accept?"
Dragonite gave Ash a questioning look as if expecting him to answer right then and there.
"I don't like this, it sounds like another of Team Rocket's schemes..." Chloe commented.
"No it's not!" James shouted out from a nearby bush, giving away the Rocket Trio's presence.
"Yeah, we're right here!" Jessie shouted.
"We can hear you ya know!" Meowth added on.
"Wobbuffet!"
Chloe gave them a look before turning back towards Ash only to let out a startled gasp as Ash nodded his head and returned the invitation to Dragonite. "Tell your master that we'll be there! I look forward to meeting and battling him!" He eagerly exclaimed.
"Pi Pikachu!"
"I got a bad feeling about this..." Chloe commented.
