1st year - Too Academy

...

"Tell me about your friends," Koizumi said making Mac look over at her.

"Why?" Mac asked.

"I want to know about them," Koizumi smiled. "You're close with your team, right?"

Mac looked at her therapist for a moment before she shrugged.

"I guess," Mac said. "Do you mean my current team or my old one?"

"Both," Koizumi said.

"I would say I'm closer with my old one," Mac said. "But I'm friends with my current one too."

"Why is that?" Koizumi asked.

"Why…" Mac furrowed her brows as she looked at Koizumi trying to see where she was going with this. "My old team were there for me when I really needed them too. They helped me and kept me from losing faith in everything. Without them, I don't know what I would have done or how I would have survived being abandoned like I was."

Koizumi nodded slowly.

"And your new team?" Koizumi asked.

"They're good," Mac said. "I like them."

"Why?"

"They're fun and good," Mac said. "I don't know… I just like them, they helped me."

She remembered the time she had been upset by her class and having broken down in the gym after and how they all had come running to help her. She could remember their anger at what had happened.

"You trust them," Koizumi said.

Mac frowned a little as she thought about it. "I suppose I do for the most part."

"That's good," Koizumi said. "Any other friends?"

"Teppei," Mac said. "Kiyoshi Teppei, I mean. I would say he's one of my closest friends outside of my old teammates."

"Why is that?" Koizumi asked looking interested and Mac frowned again as she looked at the other woman before looking away again.

"He understands," Mac said with a small smile.

"Understands what?" Koizumi asked.

"What's it like to not have parents," Mac said. "Most of the others understands that in the way he does. He's easy to talk to."

"And he plays basketball?" Koizumi asked.

"Yes," Mac said looking over her at her. "So?"

"Seems like most of your friends plays basketball," Koizumi stated.

Mac blinked as she looked back at Koizumi wondering where she was going with this.

"I guess, why?" Mac asked.

"Why is that?" Koizumi asked.

Mac was getting tired of all the why-questions and felt a little frustrated as she was pushed to explain things she didn't really want to.

"I don't know," Mac said.

"I think you do," Koizumi said. "Is it about what happened with your class?"

Mac frowned again. "What does that have to do with it?"

"You don't interact with the others in your class," Koizumi said.

"I do," Mac protested.

"Do you?" Koizumi said. "I think you keep yourself locked away from everyone who's not inside the familiar circle of basketball. That's where you feel control."

"That's not true," Mac protested.

"No? Then tell me about a friend outside of basketball," Koizumi said.

"Hermione," Mac said. "Daisuke Sato. Ueno Setsuko."

"Okay," Koizumi said. "But still, both of them are connected to your professor and magic."

"I have friends, okay?!" Mac snapped annoyed. "And Ueno isn't connected to magic or basketball!"

"I know you do," Koizumi said calmly.

"So, why are you pushing this?!" Mac scowled.

"It's my job to make you think about this," Koizumi said.

Mac huffed and got to her feet and walked over to the window. She folded her arms over her chest as she looked out. She didn't like where this was going. She had friends. She had people in her life now that she trusted and liked. But Koizumi made it seem like it wasn't good enough and Mac hated that.

"I'm not saying it's wrong," Koizumi said seemingly knowing what Mac was thinking. "I'm just trying to make you see the patterns you form for yourself and realise that you might be pushing people away without meaning to or needing to."

...

"Ready for meeting the others?" Daiki asked leaning against the doorframe to her room. Mac sighed but nodded as she kept looking for something to wear. What did one wear in situations like this? She was so used to meeting Daiki and the others who never cared about that kind of things, and she felt lacking. She wanted to dress correctly, and not embarrass herself in front of her classmates.

"I'm sorry I forgot to mention it to you," Mac said. "I had planned to, but I got so caught up in the Winter Cup."

"It's fine," Daiki said, "but are you sure you want to?"

Mac could hear the concern in his voice, but she just shrugged. "I said we'd go."

"That wasn't a yes," Daiki said.

Mac sighed and picked up a shirt that Ayano had bought her once and she hadn't used it much. She thought it looked nice and it should be good enough.

"Do…you think that I am pushing people who aren't playing basketball away?" Mac asked.

"Eh?" Daiki asked.

Mac shook her head and smiled at him, "sorry. It's nothing."

"Kenzie," Daiki frowned but Mac just walked over and leaned in to kiss him lightly before she pulled away again.

"I'm fine," she said. "Just my mind playing with me. I'll just go change and then I'm ready. We're going to be late if we don't leave soon."

Daiki nodded even though she saw that he wasn't convinced by her answer, but she just hoped he wouldn't push it right now.

She quickly changed and got ready before she found Daiki waiting for her by the front door. He smiled at her and she took a moment to take him in. He was dressed casually in a pair of jeans and a blue shirt. She really loved him in blue, it made his eyes seem even deeper.

"Kenzie?" he asked confused.

Mac blushed lightly realising that she had stared at him for too long. She smiled and grabbed her bag just as Nao came running after her and jumped up in her arms. She decided to carry him for now. She didn't want to hide him away in her bag yet. Besides, he needed the air and she felt bad for making him stay in the bag for so long. Though, she knew it was a good place with space to run thanks to Newts charms.

"Come on," Mac smiled. "Let's do this."

"If you're sure," Daiki said. "I still don't see why you'd want to spend time with them."

He huffed.

"You know I've talked more with them lately," Mac said.

"They still turned on you too easily," Daiki said. "But I guess some of them are okay."

Mac shrugged. She wasn't sure she really could blame them for believing the lie Fujimoto told them. Had she really given them a reason to believe in her? Koizumi would probably say that she had pushed them away and not created bonds with them or something like that.

...

"Mac!" Nakano smiled when she spotted Mac and Daiki. "I'm so glad you came!"

"Hey," Mac smiled pushing the nerves back as she waved at the group already seated around the table in the room, they had rented for the afternoon at the karaoke place. Mac could see the karaoke machine at the far wall.

"You made it," Ito smiled.

"Guess we did," Mac smiled back and nudged Daiki who rolled his eyes but smiled at their classmates.

"Hey," he said and Mac knew he only did so to make her happy.

"Take a seat," Mori said.

Mac sat down beside Nakano while Daiki took the seat next to her and immediately grabbed her hand under the table. He squeezed it and she knew he had seen through her and knew she was nervous.

"So…" Matsushita said dragging the word out as no one seemed to know what to say for a moment.

Mac felt lost. What should she say? It was awkward and she felt the others look at her and she shifted a little in her seat as she wished that someone would just say something and that they would stop looking at her like they didn't believe she was there.

"Okay, okay," Nakano said breaking the awkward silence. "Talk or do something you lot. You're freaking her out."

Mac snorted and the tension lifted as the others laughed a little and relaxed more.

"Fine, fine," Mori said with a grin. "You don't have to boss us around!"

"I'm bossing you around now?" Nakano arched a brow as she looked over at Mori who immediately shook his head. "That's what I thought."

"Did you have basketball practice today?" Ito asked.

"No, we had a couple of days off," Mac said. "Coach told us to meet after class tomorrow."

"Oh, that's good," Ito said. "We worried we had made this difficult for you both. We know you're busy."

Mac shrugged, "it's fine."

They had already talked a little about the matches and the fact that they had won the Winter Cup at school so it felt unnecessary to talk about it again but Mac had to bite back the words that would start another basketball discussion. Koizumi's words also echoed in her mind and she wasn't going to talk about basketball.

The others had started to talk more now, and she listened as they talked and laughed. Daiki looked at her from time to time but didn't say anything. She sat quietly as she watched and listened and blinked when Daiki suddenly sat down a soda in front of her and she realised that he had ordered her something to drink without her noticing.

"Thanks," Mac smiled, and he smiled back.

"You're welcome," he said.

...

She leaned into him as she watched her classmates laugh and joke around with each other. The six of them (not counting herself or Daiki) seemed to be close. Nakano, Ito, Matsushita, Mori, Kimura and Miyamoto, all seemed to be good friends.

Mac had talked with Nakano more than the others, but that was mostly because she was seated next to her in class, same with Miyamoto. But she hadn't talked with him as much.

Maybe Koizumi was right, Mac thought with a small frown.

"Let's sing!" Ito cheered and jumped up and pulled at Matsushita. "Come join me!"

Matsushita groaned and pretended that he didn't want to, but he followed her easily enough. They found a song and started to sing. Mac had never heard the song before, but she liked it. It sounded fun but light.

They weren't bad, but they weren't great either. Mac thought that as she watched them, but they looked like they had fun and Ito was grinning as she sang.

"Hm," Daiki said. "Not bad."

"You're able to be positive about something," Mori grinned at Daiki.

Daiki rolled his eyes, "of course I am."

"When he wants to," Mac said with a wry smile.

"Oi," Daiki scowled at her. "You're supposed to be defending me."

Mac laughed and rolled her eyes as she looked over at Mori who grinned at her.

"Oh? Am I?" Mac asked. "Sorry."

Daiki huffed but she saw the amusement in his eyes. It was easier to fall into conversations then and Mac was pulled into their talks and felt herself relax a little more as Nakano and Miyamoto took over from Ito and Matsushita and chose another song.

"Go Nakano!" Mori yelled.

"You want to sing?" Ito asked Mac.

Mac bit down on her lip as she looked over at Nakano and Miyamoto who looked like they had fun. She grimaced slightly as she hesitated. Did she want to?

"Um…I don't know," Mac said. "I can't really sing."

"That's fine," Mori said. "I can't either, but it's fun."

Daiki looked at her and Mac met his eyes. He was letting it be up to her and didn't say anything to influence her one way or the other. Her first instinct was to say no. She couldn't remember ever singing before, really. At least not in front of anyone before. She wasn't good at it.

"Come on, Mac," Kimura smiled leaning forward and pushed her hair back from her face. "It's just about having fun. We're not expecting you to be a pop star or anything."

Mac inhaled deeply before she nodded, "okay."

When Nakano and Matsushita were finished with their song Mac got to her feet and did her best to ignore the nervousness she felt and the way her stomach twisted and clenched. She hadn't felt this nervous before.

She stood in front of them and felt them looking and she had a momentarily desire to rush out of the room and hide. Her eyes found Daiki who smiled at her and she instantly relaxed knowing that he was there and watching.

...

Daiki knew Mac was nervous. He could tell she was struggling a little and he was not sure why she pushed herself like she was. She never really cared about things like this, or at least he had never thought she did. But maybe she had and never told him? Did that mean that he had kept her from something she liked?

That didn't sit well with him but watching her as she chose a song and then started to sing had him smiling. She had a good voice, at least to him, and while he knew she never would be a singer he still liked hearing her.

Well….mostly.

"Good," Nakano smiled. "I wondered if she wanted to try."

"She's not too bad," Ito smiled. "But at least she seems human now and we know she's not perfect at everything."

Daiki huffed but kept looking at Mac who had relaxed a little now and didn't seem like she feared being eaten alive or something as she stood there holding the mike.

When she finished she immediately put the mike down and stepped back and Daiki wondered if he had ever seen her look that self-conscious but also a little bit pleased.

"Good job, Mac," Miyamoto said. "Want to do it again?"

"No," Mac said shaking her head. "Not now at least."

"Okay," Ito said. "Kimura?"

"Sure!" The other girl said and jumped up and made her way past them.

"She's really good," Ito told Mac. "I think she wants to be a singer."

Mac nodded while Daiki smiled when Mac sat back down beside him and leaned closer to him and rested her head on his shoulder. He put his arm around her waist and pulled her closer while looking over at Kimura and he would admit that she could sing.

"She's good," Mac said. "I'm glad I didn't go after her, I never would have tried if I had."

"I know," Nakano laughed. "I was the same the first time we came here."

"You've been here a lot?" Daiki asked.

"Not a lot," Matsushita said. "But when we can. We're all busy with the clubs after school, though probably not as much as you two with the basketball club."

"What clubs are you in?" Mac asked looking at them.

"I'm in the English Club," Matsushita said with a shrug. "I want to study in England someday and I think I can get better at English that way."

"Ah, I see," Mac said. "I can probably help you if you want."

He blinked, "Right! I forgot you're originally from England, aren't you?"

"Yes," Mac said. "I've been here since I turned 8 years old."

"That's a long time," Ito said. "You talk Japanese so well that I keep forgetting that you're not."

Mac shrugged while Daiki laughed and she elbowed him lightly as she scowled at him.

"I might ask you for help, then," Matsushita said. "It's not easy to learn a new language."

Mac nodded in understanding but didn't go into details about learning Japanese as she remembered the Dursley's and how they had been forced to allow her to learn. She stiffened slightly as she remembered her uncle… Daiki noticed and glanced down at her in concern.

"Well, I'm in the science club," Ito said, "Miyamoto is as well!"

"It's fun," Miyamoto said with a shrug.

"I'm in the drama club with Kimura," Mori said. "We're about to set up a play soon. You should come and watch!"

"Sure," Mac said while Daiki just sighed.

He looked at her again and wondered why she suddenly felt the need to socialise with their classmates. He didn't understand it. He thought it was good enough the way it was, but she had suddenly decided to change it.

Why?

...

"Did you have fun?" Daiki asked when he walked her home and they paused outside the apartment building. It was getting a little late, but Daiki knew he didn't want to leave her yet.

"It was fine," Mac smiled looking up at him. "Thank you for coming with me."

"Why did you want to go?" Daiki asked.

"They asked," Mac said.

"So? You could have said no," Daiki said. "I'm not saying that it was bad, I just don't get why you suddenly want to spend time with them outside of school."

Mac was quiet for a moment.

"I thought it would be a good idea to try to get to know them," she said.

"Okay," Daiki said. "I just wondered."

"Daiki…do you think I shut most people out?" Mac asked.

"What's this about, Kenzie?" Daiki asked.

"Koizumi said something," Mac admitted.

"What did she say?" Daiki asked.

"That I kept to friends I make through basketball because it's something I can control," Mac said. "Or that's basically what she said, at least."

"What's wrong with that?" Daiki asked. "It's where you spend a lot of your time and what you like to do, Kenzie. I can't see anything wrong with it."

"I don't know," Mac said. "She made it seem like it was."

"Then she's wrong;" Daiki scowled, and Mac smiled a little.

"You're always on my side," Mac said and he blinked at her making her smile wider and reached up with a hand to trace his chin with her hand feeling the heat from his skin and softness as she did so. He leaned into her touch.

"Always," he promised.

"Thank you," Mac said and stretched up so she could kiss him and was pleased when he bent down to meet her and pulled her closer. She felt warm and safe, and her heart was beating so fast and she was sure he could hear it.

She knew she had to pull back and end the kiss that was growing more and more passionate and something more. She knew… but the feeling of wanting more and never letting him go made her hold on until a noise made them jump apart and Mac felt her cheek heat up as she remembered that they were still outside.

"I guess I should get inside," Mac said.

"Yeah," Daiki said. "I'll see you tomorrow."

"Yeah," Mac said. "Good night."

Mac let go of him completely and walked away even if she wanted to ask him to come up with her. She knew her uncle was away on business so she could probably get away with it, but Taiga was home and it was a school night.

But she also knew that Daiki had been wrong when he said that Koizumi was wrong. Well, maybe not wrong but she knew Koizumi had a point. She realised that, but still… she felt more comfortable when she was with her basketball friends, or Ueno or even Hermione.

While this afternoon had been fun and she had enjoyed herself she had felt uncomfortable and self-conscious in a way she hadn't in a long time. Maybe it was just because it was unfamiliar to her, it probably was.

But that didn't mean that her feelings were invalid. She just couldn't see herself doing things like this very often, but maybe occasionally. At least she would consider it, and she felt a little closer to her classmates now. She had gotten to know them a little more, and they had done the same with her.

...

Harasawa looked up from the paperwork when he heard the knock on the door before it was pushed open and Mac came in.

"Hey, you wanted to talk to me?" Mac asked.

"Yes," Harasawa said. "Take a seat, Potter-san."

Mac walked to the chair she normally used and sat down.

"Have you had time to process the win now?" Harasawa asked.

"It's still a little unreal," Mac admitted. "But for the most part, yes."

"Good," Harasawa said. He knew the feeling of winning something like this, the accomplishment one felt as their goals were reached. He remembered his own career as a basketball player and the victories he'd experienced over the years. The memories left was still something he appreciated even now. But the accomplishment he felt over this victory with this team… he didn't think anything beats that. All the work that had been put into forming this team, to help them grow and develop as basketball players… it felt great. He felt proud in a different way than when he had been a player himself, and he couldn't wait to see just how far this team and players could go.

"I thought we would have an easy practice today," Harasawa said breaking out of his thoughts. "It's Imayoshi and Susa's last practice today."

Mac looked a little sad as she nodded, and he knew she had grown close with the two third years. Nakano, their last third year, had already quit and wouldn't join them today. He had already talked with Harasawa and said he needed to focus on his studies now.

"I see," Mac said. "I guess it's time."

"It's always hard to face changes in a team that works so well as this one," Harasawa said.

"Yeah," Mac agreed.

"And as you are aware; Imayoshi was our captain and we now need a new one," Harasawa said coming closer to why he had asked her to come and talk with him. "And I've given it a lot of thought and also heard what Imayoshi thinks about it, and have decided that our new captain should be you, Potter."

Mac blinked as she stared at him. She couldn't believe what he just said… she was the new captain? But… she had never even considered that possibility before.

"But… I thought Wakamatsu would be the new Captain," Mac said.

Harasawa couldn't help the smile that crossed his lips because he had never seen her surprised before. She normally read the moves he was about to make before he told her so to see her surprised was new.

"I think you are the best choice as captain now that Imayoshi is leaving," Harasawa said. "Potter, you do realise that the job you have been doing since you started has been a lot of what I expect from a captain?"

"But…" Mac frowned. "I'm a manager, and I help with what I can… I've never been the captain before."

"And you've done a very good job, Potter," Harasawa said leaning forward in his seat a little. "The way you helped the team even when you couldn't play? You didn't let your own disappointment stop you from putting the team first. It is what I want from a captain. You already know the players, you help with their training and you have their respect."

Harasawa knew that most would expect him to make Wakamatsu the new captain. If Mac hadn't been there, if she hadn't been part of the team then he would have been a natural choice. But Mac was a part of the team and she was there, and she was the natural choice now. The only thing that had him hesitating was the fact that she was already doing so much for the team and he didn't want to put even more responsibility on her shoulders.

He had talked with Imayoshi who had suggested her as his replacement as well, and he had pointed out that she was already doing most of the things a captain should be doing. She helped to lead the practices when he wasn't there, she helped with their training menus and she saw the players and would do what she could to make them stronger.

"Do you not want to be the captain, Potter?" Harasawa asked. "If that's the case, then you need to tell me."

Mac thought about it. She had never really thought about it, but the idea of being captain… it wasn't unwanted. It seemed like a good challenge and she did want it, but she was worried. What if the others didn't want her to be their captain? Wakamatsu seemed like a more natural choice to her…

"It's not that," Mac said looking at him. "But… Wakamatsu?"

"He'll be the vice-captain and will help you when you need it," Harasawa said. "It's about who is the right choice and I believe that you are the one to lead this team further. Wakamatsu is a good player, he's strong and a leader as well, but you are a more natural leader on this team. They follow you without question, and you have earned it."

"Thanks," Mac said unsure about what to say as she tried to process it. She was the new captain of Too Academy.

...

"So, from today on Potter Mackenzie is the new captain," Harasawa said looking at the basketball club that had all gathered around him. No one was really looking surprised as far as he could tell, and he was pleased to note he approval he could read on their faces.

Mac was nervously watching the others for signs of disapproval as Harasawa made the announcement. What if they didn't think she was good enough? What if they thought she should just be a manager?

She knew that it was her own insecurities that talked and that she had to be more confident. Well, she knew she could do it. She was confident about her own skills in basketball, but she wasn't sure how the others would react.

"Yes!" Abe said. "I knew it!"

Mac looked over at him and saw the wide grin on his face and she realised that the look was mirrored on every face there.

"I think we all did," Wakamatsu said calmly but he was smiling. He looked over at Mac. "Congratulations, Mac."

"Yeah, congratulations Mac!"

She blinked and felt her throat tighten as emotions welled up inside of her, but she managed to smile.

"Best choice," Daiki said, and Mac blushed a little.

"Thanks," she said.

"Wakamatsu will be the vice-captain," Harasawa added. "But now I want you to have fun. It's the last practice with Imayoshi and Susa, so I didn't plan anything for today."

...

"It's about time," Seijuro said.

Mac snorted as she adjusted her phone, "I didn't expect it."

"You really should have expected it," Seijuro said. "You're the natural choice for captain, Mac."

"Thanks, but I think Wakamatsu might have been a good captain as well," Mac said.

"But he's not you," Seijuro said.

Mac shook her head but smiled a little. She had called Seijuro as soon as she got home to tell him.

"I think that's obvious," Mac said. "I just hope I'll do a good job."

"Mac, you already do a lot of the work anyway," Seijuro said. "I know you'll do well."

"Thanks," Mac said. "So, how are you?"

"I'm fine," Seijuro said. "Though dad is giving me looks and he's been asking questions lately."

"Questions?" Mac asked.

"About you," Seijuro admitted.

"Why?" Mac frowned.

"I have my suspicions," Seijuro sighed. "Don't worry about it, Mac. It's nothing."

Mac felt confused, "okay. But he's not giving you a hard time anymore?"

"No," Seijuro said. "He's not."

"Good," Mac said even if she was a little confused why he would ask about her.

"Yeah," Seijuro said.

Mac looked up and saw Taiga and Alex standing in the hallway into the living room where she had paused to talk to Seijuro. She frowned a little but quickly blanked her face.

"I have to go," Mac said. "Taiga is here and looks like he wants to talk."

"Fine," Seijuro sighed. "Call me soon, okay? And congratulations, Mac. You deserve to be made captain."

"Thank you, Seijuro," Mac said quietly. "Talk to you soon, okay?"

She hung up and turned her attention to Taiga and Alex.

"Hey," she said.

"Your former captain?" Taiga asked.

"Yeah," Mac said. "So, what's up?"

"I'm leaving tomorrow so I just stopped by to say goodbye," Alex said.

"Oh," Mac said. "I see."

"I'm sorry we never got the chance to play each other," Alex said with a smile. "I would have loved playing you."

"Next time," Mac said with a shrug.

Alex blinked before her smile softened and she nodded.

"I look forward to it," Alex said. "And… I want to say that I am deeply sorry for how things turned out between us, Mac. I never meant to offend you, but I know that I acted wrong and did something unacceptable. I won't give you any excuses. I just wanted you to know that I am sorry."

Mac looked at her and she could tell that Alex meant it. Alex had apologized before as well, and she had never pushed it again and had respected the distance Mac had placed between them. And Mac knew that Taiga cared about Alex and that he hoped they would get along.

"Thank you," Mac said. "I forgive you."

Alex smiled relieved but it was Taiga's relieved smile that had Mac convinced that she made the right decision. She didn't want to hold onto her grudge anymore, even if she had a good reason and she still didn't like it. She realised that she could forgive Alex even if she still didn't accept what she had done. But she wasn't going to hang onto it anymore.

"Did you have a practice today?" Taiga asked.

"Yes," Mac nodded. "I couldn't play, though."

She pouted. She had wanted to play… but again she was forced to just watch.

"Riko is thinking about asking you guys for a joint training soon," Taiga said. "Should she ask your coach or your captain? Who will be your captain now, by the way? It was that creep before, right? Imayoshi?"

Mac rolled her eyes.

"Riko wants to have a practice with us?" Mac asked ignoring the other questions for now.

"Mm," Taiga nodded. "I think she wants to learn from you."

"Me?" Mac blinked.

"That's not so surprising, is it?" Alex asked.

"Maybe not," Mac said remembering Riko's questions from the dinner after their game.

"So… who should she talk to?" Taiga asked. "She's expecting an answer from me tomorrow…"

Mac shook her head, "tell her to call me, okay?"

"You?" Taiga asked.

"I'm the new captain," Mac shrugged trying to sound casual, but she knew she failed.

"That's great," Taiga said. "I guess I'm not surprised."

"Thanks," Mac said.

Hogwarts

...

Dumbledore kept thinking about what Dodge had told him and wondered if Sirius really were in Japan now. But why would he be there? What could Sirius find so important that he left the safety of his home in London to risk travelling all the way to Japan? It didn't make sense to him, and Dumbledore hated not knowing.

He knew that he didn't have any right to demand that Sirius reported to him, but Sirius had done as he had asked since he had told Dumbledore the truth about what had happened all those years ago with Pettigrew and the Potters. He had followed Dumbledore's lead and stayed at Grimmauld Place even though he hated it. He understood that Dumbledore only wanted what was best and that it was the safest option.

He was also quite sure that if Sirius were in Japan then he would find Remus there as well. That bothered him too because Remus had always kept in touch and had been looking for Mac since she failed showing up at Hogwarts. He had stopped contacting him and Dumbledore knew that Remus never would have stopped trying to find the daughter of his best friends. That was why he had let Remus do most of the searching. He was sure that his former student would tell him if he found something.

So, what did this mean? Had he given up? Maybe he had given up searching and was too depressed to bother contacting Dumbledore? But that didn't make sense either, or Dumbledore's instincts told him that this wasn't the case.

"I need to go to Japan," he said out loud. "That's the only way I can find the answers I'm looking for."

"And what will you use as an excuse to leave the school in the middle of the year?" Dippet asked from his portrait.

"I can visit their school," Dumbledore said thinking hard. "Yes… interschool connections should be recommended and maybe we can work out something between our two schools. Yes… that should be acceptable."

"And what about this school, Dumbledore?" one of the other headmasters asked.

"Minerva will do a good job looking after Hogwarts while I'm gone," Dumbledore said feeling better about this as his plans formed in his mind.

Yes… this would be it. He would find answers in Japan and hopefully, he would find out why Sirius Black was there. If he was there… he smiled. Now he just had to organise this with Mahoutokoro School of Magic and his plans would be put into life.
