Disclaimer: I do not own Devil May Cry or DC Comics. I only own the OC Drake Redgrave.
"Good thing Redgrave wasn't hit by one of those tripod things." Drake said with a sigh as he, now using a face mask concealing half his face up the bridge of his nose, stood on a rooftop overlooking a group of construction workers currently working on a new building that had been in the making for the past few months, apparently it was to be a ne restaurant.
It had been a week since the invasion and honestly everything went back to normal, well somewhat. Many were stull reeling and recovering from the invasion. Drake hadn't done much, just gone back to the way his life was before he decided to help the other heroes out. Hey, he saved the world, what else did they want? He figured that's the way it would go, save the world, then the heroes go off and do their own thing.
"The Avengers did it, so why not us?" Drake shrugged, thinking about his favourite superhero film he watched last night. Actually, now that he's thinking about the other heroes, he hasn't heard word of them, the News reported them getting attention as a new group of heroes. They even mentioned him when he saved a family from one of those alien walkers. However all they call him was the 'Vigilante' since Drake could never think of a name.
So... the Vigilante will just have to do for now.
Drake sighed and stood, rolling his shoulders. "Well, better get to work."
"I'm sure Redgrave can do without you for an hour or two."
Blinking in surprise, Drake turned to see Superman and Green Lantern standing there. Drake blinked again as he looked between them. "Hi."
"Hello Drake." Superman said with a polite smile while GL crossed his arms.
"What brings you to my neck of the woods?" Drake slightly joked, but his tone also held a serious note to it. After all, heroes don't come into other hero's cities for shits and giggles.
"Drake, what you did the other day was courageous. It was because of you we won the battle against the Imperium." Superman said with a slight grin.
Drake shrugged. "I think you guys could've handled it, even without me."
"Perhaps, but that doesn't mean you should doubt yourself." Superman said. "Yo were there with us, it's only fair you should be part of something bigger."
Drake raised an eyebrow. "Such as?"
"Hope you aren't afraid of heights, kid." GL said before using his ring to form a bubble around Drake before they all flew up into the air. Drake looked down as Redgrave City got smaller and smaller before he passed the clouds. He notice Superman slip a gas like mask on as they passed the stratosphere, and what Drake saw made his eyes widen. A very big space station, like a cylinder with a ring around it. It was like something straight out of a Sci-Fi film like Star Wars or Star Trek.
"We're coming in with the kid." GL stated over some comm, the hangar bay doors opened. Once they landed the sphere disappeared around Drake as he took in the surroundings and notice two smaller spacecrafts nearby. He followed Superman and Green Lantern to two large doors that opened, revealing some large command room. He looked around and saw that they were not alone: Batman, Diana, Flash, and Hawkgirl were standing not to far away from them.
"Drake, welcome to the Watchtower." Superman gestured to the entire command as the half-Devil couldn't help but stare in awe.
However, Drake walked over to the large window, looking at the amazing view that was Earth. He was looking at Earth from space, and it was truly a beautiful view.
"Wonder if this is how Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin felt in 1969 on the moon." Drake muttered with awe only a teenager can have. He then got back to the matter at hand and looked at Superman. "What is this place?"
"Well, HQ for this new team that's been put together." Superman explained as he joined Drake at the window. "I once thought I could protect the world by myself, but I was wrong. Working together we saved the planet. And I believe That if we stay together as a team. We would be a force that cold truly work for the ideals of peace and justice."
"What? Like a bunch of super friends?" Flash asked with a smirk.
"More like ah, Justice League."
"hmm, not a bad name actually." Drake shrugged before he looked at Superman. "And you want me on this team, even though I'm still a kid and barely been at this for a year?"
Superman grinned and put a hand on his shoulder. "Well, luckily, you have experienced adults to offer advice. trust me, Drake, the path of a hero isn't an easy one."
"Well, I'm in." Flash said.
"Me too." Green Lantern said walking up to them with Hawkgirl behind him.
"And me." Hawkgirl added as they all put their hands together.
"My mother may not approve, but I found Man's World intriguing, I will gladly join." Diana said walking up to the group and joining them. The group looked at Drake who had been silent after Superman's words.
Drake looked at them for several moments before he exhaled through his nose and put his hand on the pile, a small grin underneath his face mask. "What the hell, I'm in."
"What about you Batman?" Superman asked, all of them turning to the Dark Knight.
"I'm not really a people person."
Drake quietly snorted. "Says the one with sidekicks."
"But when you need help, and you WILL, call me." The Dark Knight finished.
"Where's J'onn?" Hawkgirl asked, noticing the Martian wasn't here. Superman looked up for a moment before he flew to an upper platform.
"So, 'Vigilante'," Flash said with a grin as Drake rolled his eyes. "Can't you think of another name?"
"It's work in progress." Drake said dryly as he pushed his hood down and pulled his mask down. "Like hell am I letting the media name me though, they come up with the weirdest names ever."
"Like what?" Hawkgirl raised an eyebrow.
"Well, one called me The Redcoat, which I didn't like even though I wear a red coat but... jeez, do I look like those 1800s redcoats from Pirates of the Caribbean?"
"Who?" Diana asked in confusion and curiosity.
"Tell you later." Drake said. "Anyway, thankfully they just called me The Vigilante or the Shadow, but mostly The Vigilante."
"A Vigilante who can turn into some demon thing." GL said pointedly.
"Yeah.., figured that would pop up in this." Drake muttered with a pinch on the bridge of his nose. "You all have questions."
"Yes." Batman answered for them as Superman and J'onn joined them. "The Imperium called you the 'Son of Sparda.' Who is he?"
"My father." Drake replied but Batman gave him a look that said he wanted more explanation than that. "But... it's a long story."
"We have time." Superman offered.
Drake shrugged. "Very well then. Whatever you think is myth or stories... are actually real. Demons exist."
"Wait, Demons exist? Do Angels as well?" Flash asked.
"Yep. The whole thing: Angels, Demons, God himself, Gods, Heaven, Hell, it all exists. But that's not where this story begins." Drake began. "since the dawn of time, Hell and Heaven have waged an Endless War. Back then, Earth was known as Eden."
"Eden?" Hawkgirl asked.
"It's what Earth is called by the Angels and Demons, and originally it's name before everyone went with the name Earth." Drake answered before continuing. "Anyways, Hell and Heaven fought for thousands of years across time and space itself…..All just for Man." Drake stated looking back at the planet below him. To some this was quite a story, to others they would hold onto this information, and to Diana she recognized this story.
'Mother once spoke about this, how The Gods took in a battle that echoed across the cosmos.' Diana thought. She was only a child when her mother told of this story, how beings more powerful than the Gods could only watched as all of creation was saved by a Legendary Warrior that was neither God or Mortal.
"However all that ended when someone finally had enough." Drake began again as he turned back to the others. "This being was no ordinary being: He was a Demon." This shocked the group, a demon wishing to stop a war? "He went by many titles: Swordsman, General of the First Legion, but my personal favorite: The Legendary Dark Knight…..Sparda."
"Your father." Batman stated more than asked.
Drake nodded. "My father took up his sword against his demon brethren, joining forces with the Angels. And with their combined might, they drove Hell's armies back from whence they came. But my Dad knew it wasn't gonna be enough so he closed off the Demon Gates with his power, separating it into several pieces and with it he became a human."
"How does that work?" Flash asked.
"Don't know, I was young when I was told this story, too young to comprehend how it all works." Drake said before continuing. "After the battle, the Angels returned to Heaven, while my father began leading a life amongst humanity. Eventually, years later, he met my mother... Eva Redgrave." He reached into his collar and pulled out a locket, opening it to reveal a beautiful blonde woman. He handed the locket Superman as the Man of Steel inspected it with Flash, Hawkgirl, and Green Lantern looking over his shoulder.
"She is very beautiful." Hawkgirl complimented as Superman handed Drake the picture back.
"Thank you. So what now? You know I'm Half-demon, still want me part of this team?" Drake asked.
Superman smiled at him reassuringly. "What you are doesn't define you. And I think it's time everyone settles down. Everyone agreed and by some silent agreement, they took their separate ways around the Watchtower.
Drake turned his gaze back to Earth and couldn't help but smile. Maybe... this won't be so bad.
So Drake joins the Justice League and gives them a little story about his father. I do hope you all enjoyed this chapter, and are enjoying this story so far.
