2nd year – Too Academy

...

"I'm so tired," Mac groaned falling on the bed with a dramatic sigh.

"We're still going shopping today," Ueno said looking over at her with an amused look. "I'm not letting you escape."

"But…but…I'm tired!" Mac whined looking over at her friend. "Can't we just stay in?"

"No," Ueno said. "I need new clothes and you do too."

"Are you saying that my clothes are bad?" Mac frowned.

"No, I'm just saying that you need new ones," Ueno shrugged.

"Fine," Mac sighed. "But I still want to sleep."

"You're dramatic today," Ueno said.

"Well, Yuki-sensei tried to kill us at training today," Mac pointed out, "and the first week back at school has been brutal and I think I hate basketball now."

Ueno arched a brow at her and Mac rolled her eyes.

"Fine, I don't hate basketball," Mac admitted, "but I don't like it right now. I thought being a captain would be fun and giving, but right now it's just… argh! I don't know!"

"But you had fun today, right?" Ueno asked. "I know you haven't been coming to learn more martial arts in a while."

"I didn't have the time," Mac admitted, "but I've missed it. It was fun to get back to it again."

Ueno smiled and continued moving around her room looking for something (Mac didn't know what) and Mac pushed herself up on the bed watching her friend.

"So, how are you?" Mac asked. "You seemed to have fun again today."

Ueno smiled a little and nodded, "yeah. I will keep going with the martial arts. I want to win something for the national team one day. So, I will keep training hard."

"Good," Mac said and left it at that. She wasn't going to push it, but she was relieved that Ueno had found the joy in her sport again. "Are you ready to go soon or?"

"We're waiting for Hermione," Ueno said.

"We are?" Mac blinked. "Oh, I didn't know that."

"I didn't tell you?" Ueno asked before smiling sheepishly. "I asked her if she would come with us today when we arranged it."

Mac blinked she hadn't been aware they were talking.

"I see," Mac said. "I'm glad."

There was a knock on the door just then and Hermione slipped into the room. She smiled when she saw Mac half-lying, half-sitting on the bed and then when she saw Ueno.

"Hey," she said. "Your grandmother let me in."

"Ah, good," Ueno said, and she glanced at Mac. "She's staying here while mum and dad are away together."

"Oh?" Mac looked at her. "Is that good?"

"Yeah," Ueno smiled a little. "They need some time together just the two of them. I… I hope they can fix their relationship and not having me in the middle."

Hermione looked concerned while Mac looked pensive.

"I'm sure it's a good idea to work on their relationship, but you know it's not your fault, right?" Mac asked gently.

"Mm," Ueno shrugged. "My martial arts keep getting in between them."

Mac got off the bed but before she could get over to Ueno Hermione was there and had put a hand on her shoulder. Ueno looked at her and Mac watched them for a moment. Huh, they were…closer than she had thought. She smiled a little.

...

Mac followed the other two girls into the shopping centre with a small smile on her lips. She was content to just follow along and watch them as they talked and went to the different shops. It wasn't that she was left out, they did include her and pointed out clothes they thought she'd like, but it was not really her thing. She was a little surprised that Hermione seemed to enjoy it as much as she did, but it was good to see her having fun and relax.

"You are so getting that dress today," Ueno told Hermione. "You won't regret it."

"But I never wear dresses like that," Hermione protested. "Or dresses at all."

"Then it's a good time to start," Ueno said. "You'll look adorable in it. It's just your colour."

Hermione blushed a little, but she seemed to be giving in to the idea.

"Mac?" Hermione turned to look at her. "What do you think?"

"It's a nice dress," Mac said. "You look good in it."

"Mm," Hermione said. "Okay, I think I will."

"Great," Ueno grinned.

Mac laughed lightly as she watched them before moving a little bit away from them to the entrance of the clothing shop they were in. She looked out at the people milling around as she waited for Ueno and Hermione to finish.

She had to figure something out for practice soon. She had spent the rest of the week after tryouts observing the new players in order to get them an updated and tailored training menu. It had been… difficult. They were good, of course, but they seemed to be on the outside of the old (was that the right word?) team.

Especially Kasahara seemed to take everything as a challenge and tried to challenge Daiki to play all the time. Daiki refused (surprisingly). Mac saw that Kasahara got angry when Daiki shrugged him off. He also barely listened to her and only did because Harasawa was there.

She jumped when she felt someone nudge her shoulder and turned to see Ueno beside her.

"Ready?" Ueno asked.

"Yeah," Mac nodded. "Where to now?"

"Food," Hermione pleaded. "I'm so hungry."

"Then we'll get some food," Ueno agreed. "I'm pretty hungry too."

They went to a restaurant in the shopping centre that wasn't too expensive and ordered dinner there. It was fun and Mac enjoyed the easy conversation. It was a while since she'd been able to just hang out with Ueno and Hermione.

In the middle of the meal her phone rang, and she pulled it up to answer it.

"Hey, Seijuro," Mac smiled a little as she answered the phone.

"Mac," he said.

"I thought we were going to talk tomorrow?" Mac asked curiously, "not that I mind talking to you now, of course."

"Right," Seijuro huffed. "Just…"

Mac frowned a little and glanced up to see Hermione and Ueno looking at her. She got up, "I'll just go outside to talk to him for a moment. I'll be right back."

They nodded.

"Mac?" Seijuro sounded a little confused, "I'm interrupting you."

"No, it's fine," Mac said as she walked away from the table. "I am just out with a couple of friends. I have time to talk. How are you?"

He was quiet for a moment, "good."

"Liar," Mac said. "You sound off. What's wrong?"

He huffed a laugh, "You're the only one who dares to call me a liar."

"Well, if you told me the truth then I wouldn't do that," Mac said but she smiled a little as she found a quiet spot and leaned against the wall. She could still see the restaurant.

"Fine," he said. "I just needed to hear a friendly voice."

"Mm," Mac said. "Okay. I won't make you talk about it."

He was quiet for a moment and she thought she heard his shuffling around.

"How has your first week back at school been?" Seijuro asked.

"Terrible," Mac grumbled. "I told you they put me and Daiki in different classes."

"A crime," Seijuro said dryly but she knew he was sympathetic to it. "I can contact someone if you like? Threaten them into changing it?"

"Thanks," Mac smiled, "but it's probably not a good idea."

"Well, let me know if you change your mind," Seijuro said.

"Sure," Mac said, "but otherwise the week has been tiresome. I don't mind the new classmates, really. And there is some from my old class as well, but I can't help but feel…exposed."

"You're not alone, Mac," Seijuro said. "Daiki is close by and we are only a call away."

"I know," Mac smiled. "Thank you."

"Always," he said simply. "And practice? How is that?"

Mac groaned a little, "okay, but it's taking a little longer than I like to get the new players integrated into the team. Only Yugi is doing what I tell him without a look or a whispered remark. I keep forgetting how some people just can't get over that I'm a girl."

"You'll show them;" Seijuro said confidently. "Just crush them in a game and they'll learn that they are nothing compared to you."

Mac shook her head, "maybe. But I'm doing all the talking here. Tell me something too, eh?"

"School is good as always," Seijuro said. "The team is good too. Not really any changes to it."

"Lucky you," Mac mumbled. "So, you better now?"

"It has helped to hear you talk," he admitted, and he almost sounded shy. "Thank you."

"Hey, you're my best friend," Mac said. "Do you need me to come down?"

"I saw you not too long ago," Seijuro said. "So, I can't ask you to do that."

"I will come if you need me, Seijuro," Mac said.

"No, this is enough," he said. "But thank you."

"Okay," Mac said. "Tell me if it changes, okay?"

"I will," he said. "I'll let you go back to your friends now."

...

Mac went back to the table as soon as she hung up, but she still felt worried for Seijuro. He had sounded sad, but she knew better than to push him to talk about it. At least not yet. But she wasn't sure she should.

"Everything okay?" Ueno asked when Mac sat down.

"Yeah," Mac nodded. "Sorry about that."

"It's fine," Hermione smiled. "Your friend, right?"

"Best friend next to Daiki," Mac nodded. "He was meant to call tomorrow, but I guess he forgot."

The two other girls nodded and went back to their conversation as Mac focused on finishing her food. Her mind was a little distracted, but she managed to join in on the conversation and even enjoy herself.

...

Kasahara walked toward the gym with Rakuto. He wondered if he had made the right decision when he decided to go to Too Academy because so far, he couldn't see anything to show that they really had wanted him to join their team. He huffed quietly.

"You okay?" Rakuto asked.

"Sure," he said.

"Wonder what we're going to do today," Rakuto said. "Do you think we'll get to play basketball today?"

"We better," Kasahara said. "I'm so tired of just doing random exercises and running. I came here to play."

"I'm sure there's a reason for it," Rakuto said.

"I think Potter just likes having the power to order us around," Kasahara said.

Rakuto glanced at him before he shrugged.

They changed into their training clothes and Kasahara ignored the others as he did so, wondering if he could challenge Daiki to play him today. He hated the dismissive way Daiki looked at him. Like he was nothing. He knew others said that Daiki had changed, but they knew nothing. He was just the same as he always had been. A monster who treated everyone like trash…

Rakuto waited for him when he finished and together, they walked to the gym and found the rest of the team was already there waiting. Mac was there talking with the coach already while Daiki was lying on his back on the stage looking like he was sleeping. Kasahara huffed annoyed.

"You're late," Wakamatsu frowned looking over at them.

"You haven't started," Kasahara said.

"Because we waited for you," Abe said.

"We're sorry," Rakuto said looking a little sheepish. "Thought we had time."

Kasahara felt someone looking at him but ignored them.

"What are the plans for today?" he asked instead.

"I'm sure Cap is planning to kill us," Abe turned toward them and smirked. "She must be planning something."

"Oh?" Sekai asked.

"Mm, just wait and see," Abe nodded, "be prepared to be hurt!"

He laughed.

"You're scaring the newbies, Abe," Inoue sighed looking at them before looking away again. "Cap won't hurt them."

"Too badly," Yamaguchi added.

Sekai glanced at Rakuto who looked a little wide-eyed. Kasahara snorted.

"Oh? Don't believe me, first-year," Abe asked turning toward him when he heard the snort.

"How bad can it be?" Kasahara asked with a shrug. "I just hope we're allowed to play."

"Hmm," Abe narrowed his eyes as he looked at him. "Well… be careful what you wish for, first-year."

"My name is Kasahara," Kasahara snapped annoyed.

"Hm, so?" Abe arched a brow.

"Enough," Mac's voice suddenly sounded making Kasahara suddenly aware that Mac had finished talking to the coach and had walked over to them. "We're going to go running today."

"Running?" Kasahara repeated.

"Shut up," Daiki snapped glaring at him.

Mac gave Daiki a look and he pulled back a little.

"It is the best way to build up your stamina," Mac said.

Kasahara scowled but didn't say anything else.

...

Mac knew that the new members needed to work on their stamina in order to keep up with the rest of the team. It was natural because they had spent the whole of last year working on it over time. She didn't want the new members feeling targeted so she made everyone do it because it wouldn't hurt.

She kept a steady pace that they could all follow for the first couple of rounds before she gave the sign that they could pace themselves.

She ran together with Daiki who smirked at her making her feel the competitive instinct inside of her rise and she fasten her pace a little more.

It was fun to get lost in running again like this, it drove her forward and she allowed herself to push her limits a little more than she normally did. Daiki was just in front of her, but she knew that she could get past him at the turn.

Harasawa was smiling when Mac finished the run just in front of Daiki who was right behind her.

"You cheated, Kenzie," Daiki protested.

"That's hard when it wasn't any set rules," Mac smirked at him. "But I didn't cheat."

Mac grabbed a bottle of water that had been prepared beforehand and took a deep drink before wiping her mouth with the back of her hand. Daiki had just watched her amused, but he rolled his eyes when she tossed him the bottle for him to finish.

"How are they doing, coach?" Mac asked Harasawa turning her attention back to the others.

"Good," he said. "But they do need to work on their pacing."

Mac nodded thoughtfully as she watched the others finishing their laps. It wasn't surprising to her that Wakamatsu was the first one after her and Daiki and that the new members finished last and collapsed on the ground as soon as they did. Even Abe and Inoue had sat down panting harshly when they finished.

She smiled a little feeling pleased as she observed them all. While they did need more work (of course) they had a solid foundation to build on and she didn't need to begin at scratch.

"Good," Harasawa spoke up. "You need to stretch before you go back to the gym for a light basketball exercise before we are done for the day."

Mac bit back a smile at the groans but they did as they were told.

...

"I don't see the point in all of this," Kasahara complained when the practice was over. They hadn't even played today either and he was bored. "This isn't why I started to play basketball!"

Mac heard him but she remained expressionless as she focused on her notes.

"It is a little different than I expected," Sekai agreed, "but I'm sure there's a reason for it."

"Reason? What reason?" Kasahara grumbled. "I don't know why coach is letting Potter decided so much. What does she know?"

"They did win the Winter Cup and she is one of the Generation of Miracles," Sekai pointed out. "I've heard others say that she is the reason why."

Kasahara snorted, "she's arrogant."

Mac fisted her hands a little but soon they left, and she couldn't hear what they were saying anymore. Was that how others saw her? Arrogant? She sighed a little but shook it off. She couldn't help it if that were how they saw her, she guessed that maybe she could seem like that. Maybe? She didn't really know. But she shouldn't care what they thought, but a small part of her did.

It was a problem to have them doubting her like this, but she supposed they needed time to come around. She could understand the disappointment in not doing something that was more fun, but the foundation needed to be laid. But she was a little worried about the resentment she picked up on in Kasahara. It seemed like there was more too it than with the others.

"You ready?" Daiki poked his head into the gym and looked at her.

Mac blinked, "have you waited long?"

"Not too long," Daiki smiled. "You forgot the time again?"

"Maybe," Mac smiled a little sheepishly.

He snorted amused.

Mac didn't tell him about the conversation she had overheard knowing that he would overreact and go all protective. They didn't need anything else creating division in the team.

"I'll hurry and change," Mac promised, and Daiki nodded.

...

"Hey, Mac," Ayano smiled warmly and reached out to hug her.

"Mac-nee!" Shiro yelled running over to her and just as Ayano pulled away she found herself with an armful of Shiro. "I missed you!"

"Missed you too," Mac smiled. "What have you been doing since I saw you last?"

Shiro pulled her over to the sofa talking about everything he had done lately and hands waving as he described it.

"He already pulled her away, huh," Daiki said coming back down and seeing his girlfriend talking with Shiro.

"Yeah," Ayano smiled. "He has missed her."

"I know," Daiki said. "But it has only been a week."

Ayano laughed, "and if you went a week without seeing her you wouldn't miss her?"

Daiki scowled. "That's different."

Ayano smiled and patted his arm gently. "I will finish dinner."

Daiki walked over to the sofa and sat down beside Mac and ignored the glare from Shiro focusing on the warm hand that had grabbed his when he sat down. Mac hadn't looked at him, but she showed that she knew he was there.

"So, you like your new class," Mac said smiling at Shiro.

"Yes," Shiro said. "Sayuri is in my class too."

Sayuri came home just then and smiled when she saw Mac.

"Mac-nee," she smiled.

"What am I?" Daiki mumbled. "Chopped liver?"

"You're here all the time," Sayuri dismissed him with a wave, "besides, Mac-nee is cooler."

"You hear that, Daiki?" Mac asked turning to him. "I'm cooler."

Daiki rolled his eyes, "well, you have them under a charm, obviously."

"Oi," Mac gently slapped his chest before laughing as he pulled her close and kissed her nose.

"Ew," Shiro and Sayuri complained.

Ayano was laughing in the background.

"Ah, fine visitors today," Takehiro said when he came back and spotted Mac. "How are you, kid?"

He ruffled her hair with a fond smile.

"Okay," Mac smiled back at him feeling the warm acceptance she always felt being there. "Still angry at the school for changing the classes."

"Yeah, Daiki was upset about that too," Takehiro said looking at her thoughtfully. "But your class is treating you okay?"

Mac shrugged, "sure. I know a few of them so they keep close to me. I didn't expect that."

"They're your friends," Daiki grunted.

"Yeah," Mac said.

"The others?" Ayano asked.

"I haven't talked much with them yet," Mac admitted. "Only a few of them really. But they seem nice enough."

"Hey," Ayano said putting a hand on her shoulder making Mac look up at her. "I know it is scary, Mac. But you are strong and you're a great girl who has so much to offer. It's okay to give them a chance, and maybe you'll find new friends, eh?"

Mac swallowed before she nodded slowly. She wasn't sure she would be able to do that, but she knew Ayano had a point. But it was scary.

"Give it time," Takehiro said with a light-hearted smile. "I'm sure Daiki will come and steal you away from them often enough anyway."

He laughed making Mac relax a little as she chuckled amused as she spotted the offended look of Daiki's face.

...

Professor Sato's house

...

"Professor?" Mac finally found the nerves to address her professor at the end of the lesson. Sato looked up from the paper he was reading to look at her.

"Yes, Potter?" he said.

"Um… have you heard anything about Dumbledore?" Mac asked.

He put the paper down and gave her a long look.

"Last I heard he had gone back to Scotland," Sato finally said. "He has been corresponding with the headmaster at Mahoutokoro since then, but as far as I know there has been nothing worrying about it."

Mac nodded feeling a little spark of relief going through her.

"So, it seems like he really did believe Sirius and Remus," Mac said.

"So, it would seem," Sato agreed, "but we will pay attention."

Mac frowned, "you think he suspects?"

Sato leaned back a little and his calm serious eyes never left her face as he did so. She knew he was considering what to say.

"I think he is a very sharp and shrewd man who always assumes that others are hiding something," Sato said. "I don't doubt that Sirius and Remus put on a good show, seems like they told enough truths in there to make it believable, but there are still some missing pieces and Dumbledore is the kind of man to pick up on it."

Mac felt her shoulders slump, "great."

"Don't worry too much, Potter," Sato said more reassuringly now, "even if he does find out there's not a lot he can do. You're getting closer to the legal age in the wizarding world now and then there's even less he can do. Besides, you have a lot of people in your corner, okay?"

Mac blinked before she nodded, "okay."

He smiled his little smile showing that he cared, and she felt lucky again for having him as a teacher.

...

"Hey, Mac," Daisuke smiled when she left the office. "I hoped I would run into you."

"Hey," Mac smiled. "Oh? Something up?"

"Nah, just wanted to see how you were," Daisuke said. "I've been so busy lately that I haven't seen you in a while."

"I know," Mac smirked teasingly, "having a boyfriend takes a lot of your time, doesn't it?"

"Mac," he complained but blushed a little. "But I guess so. I wish you could meet him."

"Me too," Mac agreed. "Too bad I'm to recognizable, though."

Daisuke sighed, "mm."

"Have your family met him yet?"

"Yes," Daisuke said. "They have."

"Oh? Tell me how it went," Mac asked. "What was his name again?"

"Kawabe Takaichi," Daisuke said.

"Right," Mac smiled. "You're serious?"

"Yes," Daisuke smiled. "We are. We have talked about moving in together."

"Wow," Mac said. "That's great. Congratulations."

"Thank you," Daisuke said. "How are things between you and Aomine?"

"Good," Mac said.

"Good," Daisuke repeated but he smiled. "Still into basketball?"

"Of course," Mac laughed. "Especially after the winter cup, but I wouldn't have it any other way."

They talked a little more until Mac had to leave. She still had to do her muggle school and then basketball practice. She sighed as she thought about basketball practice.

...

Too Academy

...

"Hey, Mackenzie," Remus smiled when Mac opened the door. She had just gotten back from basketball practice where she'd had yet another frustrating practice.

"Remus, Sirius," Mac said looking between the two men. "Hey."

"Are we interrupting?" Sirius asked concernedly.

"Nah, just got home," Mac smiled opening the door wider to let them inside. "Had a late practice."

"I see," Remus said. "We can come back later if… "

"No, it's fine," Mac smiled. "How are you? Did you get to relax a little on your vacation?"

"After Dumbledore left," Sirius nodded. "It was a nice place. Your professor really set us up nicely."

"Good," Mac smiled. "I'm glad you could enjoy yourselves a little too."

Mac looked at Sirius and noticed that he was practically bouncing in place and looking over at Remus like he was waiting for something.

"What's going on?" she finally asked curiously.

"I bought a house!" Sirius blurted out.

Mac blinked, "what?"

"A house," Sirius repeated. "I bought a house."

"Here?" Mac asked.

"Yes!" Sirius nodded.

Mac stared at him for a moment before she looked at Remus who looked a little exasperated but was smiling all the same.

"Really?" Mac asked looking at Remus.

"He did," Remus confirmed calmly.

"Oi! Why do you need him to confirm it?!" Sirius pouted.

Mac looked between the two of them feeling…something. She couldn't really put a name to it as she processed it. He had bought a house. Here. In Japan. Well, he was free here and not in England… but still.

"You're really staying," Mac said looking at them.

"You doubted that we would?" Remus asked kindly.

Mac shrugged because… yeah, she had.

"We looked for you and always intended to stay close," Sirius said. "Do you not want us to?"

Mac smiled, "I want you to."

"Good," Sirius said. "So…do you want to come and look at the house? There's still a little work that needs to be done, but it's ready to be lived in."

"You have already moved in?" Mac asked.

"A few days ago," Remus said. "We wanted it to be ready before we showed you."

...

Mac looked around with wide eyes as she took in the new house that Sirius and Remus had bought. When they said it needed work, she wasn't sure she saw how. From the outside, the house looked great. It was one storey house, but it was big. It had a lot of windows, windows that covered most of the walls letting in a lot of natural light.

"Um… it looks great," Mac said. "I didn't even know that somewhere like this existed so close to Tokyo."

"I like the nature around it," Sirius nodded. "There's a pool around the back and even a basketball court."

"A basketball court?" Mac repeated.

"Well… I had that put in," Sirius admitted.

Mac blinked, "why?"

"You like basketball," Sirius said with a shrug. "Thought you would like to invite your friends here and play. I mean… if you want to come over sometimes."

"You want me to bring my friends over here?" Mac asked surprised.

"If you would want that," Sirius said trying to sound nonchalant.

Mac let a small smile play on her lips as she nodded and followed them into the house. The kitchen and living room were open and in the same room with the windows offering a lot of natural light. She saw the doors in the living room area leading out to the back of the house and to where the basketball court was (or so she assumed).

"I'm not sure I see what work you need to get done is," Mac commented as she took in the modern-looking furniture in the large room.

"Not much," Sirius admitted. "I hired someone to help with decorating the house."

Mac glanced at him and she realised (maybe for the first time) that he was rich. She had never really thought about that before.

"So…" she said.

"Come with me," Sirius grinned but she saw the way his grey eyes flickered to Remus.

She followed down a hall leading further into the house and saw a door on her right.

"Bathroom," Remus said making Mac nod.

They stopped at a door a little further in and Sirius pushed it open. He walked into the room and Mac followed curiously.

The room was empty. But it was a decent size room with wide windows and a door leading outside, she saw the trees starting to turn green standing just outside. She walked over to the door and saw a patio that seemed to stretch along with the house.

"Nice," Mac said not sure she understood why they were so nervous about showing her an empty room.

"It's your room," Sirius said.

...

Mac stilled a little not sure she had heard him right.

"What?" she asked.

"We thought this would be perfect for you," Sirius said shifting nervously on his feet.

"But…" Mac frowned. He didn't think that she would move in with them, did he?

"We know you live with your uncle," Remus said knowingly. "But Sirius and I both would like it if you had a room to use here if you ever wanted to stay over for a night. If you don't want to use it then it's fine, but we would really like to offer you a space in our home that belongs to you."

"Right," Sirius said nodding.

She looked between them with wide eyes not sure what to think. They wanted her to have a room just so she had her own space with them?

"Really?" she couldn't help but ask.

"Yes," both Sirius and Remus said.

"You don't have to make up your mind now," Remus said seemingly knowing that she felt overwhelmed.

"I…it is a nice room," Mac said quietly. "I just…"

"Like I said you don't need to decide now," Remus smiled kindly, "the offer is here if you want it. No matter what you decide you will always be welcome here."

Mac smiled shyly. They really did want her…

"It's not decorated," she said.

"We thought you would want to do that," Sirius said. "Decide how you want it."

Mac smiled again looking out of the window.

"There's a connecting bathroom here too," Sirius said pointing to a door she hadn't seen.

"Oh," she said feeling stupid, but she didn't know what else to say.

...

The rest of the tour was done quickly, and she must admit that it was a very nice house. She could understand the choice for a house with a lot of windows because she knew Sirius would like the openness it offered having been in Azkaban for so long and in that house in London that sounded dark as well. This was light and open and offered nature right outside his door.

"You will allow me to bring my friends here?" Mac asked.

"Yes," Remus said.

"And magic, what about that?" Mac asked not looking at him.

She knew Remus was watching her, but she wasn't sure what he was thinking.

"We have a basement," Remus said after a while. "We'll have our library down there with the magic books and items, and I don't think it will be too hard to not use magic while they are here."

Mac nodded, "I see."

"Mackenzie," Remus said, "I know you are overwhelmed so I will not push. Just know that we did not offer this in a way to try to get you away from your uncle. We know you belong with him and your cousin, so this is just us wanting to offer you a place to stay if you want to occasionally say over for a night or two, okay?"

"Okay," Mac said. "I'll think about it."

"Good," Remus smiled. "Now, let's go outside and find Sirius before he gets into too much trouble."

Mac laughed a little and felt herself relax a little.

"Teach me basketball?" Sirius asked when they found him at the court.

Mac looked around and smiled. It was a nice court…

"Okay," she agreed.

They spent the next hour playing and Mac had fun.

...

Mac was still thinking when she got home but she had really enjoyed her time with Sirius and Remus. It had been a nice house and she could see herself spending time there. She wasn't sure why she was surprised that they actually wanted her to have a room at their house even if she wouldn't be living there.

She had accepted that they honestly cared about her and that they wanted to be in her life, but this… this made it somehow more real to her. She couldn't help the smile that crossed her lips as she thought about it. She wondered what Daiki would think… maybe she could bring him out there soon? He would like the pool and the basketball court.

She had just gotten ready for bed when she heard her phone buzz and reached over to pick it up. She saw a new text from Riko.

Hey! What about arranging a joint training camp as we talked about? Dad says he would like to join in too. Riko.

Mac hummed and smiled as she sent her reply.
