Chapter 5: Chocolate Cake?
As the time passed Ginny was studying new spells from Voldemort, and the first of September was getting closer.
How was that last potion that I taught you?
I almost got it, but it didn't turn purple.
What color did it get?
Blue.
You added the Aconite before the last stirring.
Oh, yes.
Try again later. Are your family still finds you weird?
No, worst.
Worst?
They grin at me all the time, thinking I have got my first boyfriend or something. You know what's funny?
What my darling?
That if I do have a boyfriend, it wouldn't be my first.
Oh? Do tell.
Nothing to tell really, I dated someone from my year at Hogwarts for about a month.
What went wrong?
He was handsy, too handsy.
Voldemort was surprised to feel rage stirring within him. Handsy? She was his little Gryffindor, his darling, his… his?
Tom? You there?
I am here. Want me to kill the boy?
If I wanted him dead I could have done it myself, or just tell one of the three brothers I have that still go to Hogwarts with me.
Can I kill him anyway?
No.
Please?
No.
You are not fun.
You are right.
So I can kill him?
No. but you can teach me a new spell.
Alright.
He gave her the instructions of the Patronus spell. After succeeding with the potion he taught her, she practiced the Patronus for the rest of the summer.
Ginny was on the train to Hogwarts, and since she didn't want people to know what she was practicing, she did the spell un-verbal, which made it much more difficult.
Harry watched her in curiosity when he recognized the silver smoke of the spell.
"You are practicing the Patronus spell!" he called.
Ginny groaned. She forgot that Harry would recognize the spell because he already knew it.
"Yeah," said Ginny.
"Why?"
"I love learning new stuff," she shrugged.
"Who taught you? It's not a spell to learn on your own,"
"A friend," said Ginny.
"If you use the words it will work better," said Harry.
"I am fine, thanks Harry." Said Ginny and went back to practice.
Ginny kept practicing on her Patronus through her first day of school. She was just putting her backpack in potions' class while concentrating when a big horse came out of her wand.
Ginny grinned happily and then she saw Snape.
"Wrong classroom miss Weasley. 5 points from Gryffindor."
She groaned and her Patronus disappeared.
"Today I want to see your initiative. Brew a potion of your choice, from your books, from your memory, from wherever, but choose wisely, because your potion will be graded. If you need an ingredient that isn't in the student cabinet or your kit, come to me, begin."
Ginny went through her potions book when she remembered the potion Tom taught her in the summer. Tom. She never thought of him as Tom before. She wrote to Tom, used his name in the diary, but in her head he was always Voldemort. How… odd.
She copied her potion from the diary and went to Professor Snape's desk.
"Yes, miss Weasley?"
"I need Aconite, and some other ingredients," said Ginny.
"Let me see," he asked and reached for her parchment. She gave it to him, and he furrowed his brows.
"Are you sure you can handle this potion?"
"I practiced brewing it over the summer," said Ginny.
"It's quite advanced, where did you find it?" asked Snape.
"Some old book," said Ginny.
He gave her the ingredients.
"Good luck miss Weasley."
"Thanks."
She gathered the ingredients and the potion's recipe from Snape's desk and rushed back to her own.
When the class was over, Ginny was sweaty but happy. Her potion was purple. she filled a vial with her potion and went to get her grade.
Snape looked at her vial. "Outstanding, miss Weasley,"
"Thanks," she turned when he called her back.
"Miss Weasley, please stay after the bell, I would like a word,"
She just nodded and went back to clean her desk.
"Ginny." Said Snape, and she looked up. First name mean trouble.
"Professor," she replied.
He sighed and took a seat next to her. She turned towards him.
"I thought that the experience you had on your first year will teach you something about magical diaries,"
She blinked at him.
"I know about your correspondents with the dark lord, he told me,"
"Right. That's my business."
"He may be an actual person unlike the memory you dealt with about two years ago, but he is dangerous," said Snape.
"I know who he is, I am not stupid. But he is surprisingly easy to talk to,"
"He is?"
"Yes. Want to read it?" asked Ginny.
"This isn't an attempt to intrude on your privacy,"
"I know that. Go ahead and read it. There aren't any love declarations or sex talk if that's what worries you,"
"I doubt the dark lord is the kind to write love declarations and use sex talk,"
"You do be surprised. He is not… himself? I don't know, just read it," said Ginny.
Snape read the diary from beginning to the last message, furrowing his brows.
"You were right, I am surprised. He has the original one, and this one is…?"
"I don't know. I found it when I was packing to go to Sirius. I think the memory told me how to do a magical copy in one of my gaps, I will never know," she shrugged.
"He told you about himself in the last few weeks more than he ever told any of us," said Snape.
Ginny stroked the opened diary. She knew that their connection is wrong, but she also couldn't bring herself to end it.
"I can't finish it. He is Tom with me, the young Tom before he became too dark, I don't think I will ever be able to finish it,"
"And what will happen if we will win, and he will die?" asked Snape.
Her eyes widen. "I think it will be the end of me too," she whispered.
"May I talk with Dumbledore about it?"
"No. He will end this, and I can't-" suddenly she was sobbing and stood up.
"Ginny, breathe." Snape stood by her side, touching her arm lightly.
Ginny what's wrong? I don't know how I know it, but something is wrong.
Ginny turned back to the desk and her brows furrowed when she saw the words.
I am fine, promise.
Don't lie. What happened?
Nothing.
Please Kitten, tell me.
I will talk to you later, I promise. I am just in the middle of something.
I will hold you on to that, my darling.
Deal :)
"I have an idea. You were pouring your soul to the diary he has, and he made the diary what it is, so even if the memory is gone, the magic is there, his magic and your soul, and the new connection you two have created, is strengthening a connection that was already there,"
"Am I pouring my soul again?" asked Ginny.
"In a way, but in the same way a couple would with each other. Unlike what happened to you with the memory that was killing you,"
"We are not a couple." Said Ginny.
"No, maybe not. But you are connected," said Snape.
"Could it end it?"
He looked at her with a raised eyebrow. "Could what end what?"
"Could our connection end the war?" asked Ginny.
"I don't know, maybe if you will become more important to him then power," said Snape. She just nodded.
"Now go to eat dinner," said Snape.
Ginny put her diary in her backpack and went to the door.
"And Ginny, 20 points to Gryffindor. This was marvelous brewing job,"
She grinned. "Thank you professor!" she called and rushed out of the class to the great hall for dinner.
"Where were you? it's almost the end of dinner," said Ron as Ginny sat down and filled her plate with potatoes and beef.
"Snape wanted a word,"
Ron groaned. "How many points did we lose?"
"5 at the beginning of the class, I did a Patronus, mine is a horse," she grinned at Harry and Hermione.
"Good job Ginny!" called Hermione.
"Wait. You said at the beginning. What happened in the end of the class? How many did we lose then?" asked Ron.
"We didn't. My potion was Outstanding. He gave me 20 points," said Ginny.
"All of Hermione potions get that grade, he never give her points,"
"Ron! You should be happy with her success!" Reprimanded Hermione.
"It's fine Hermione. He told us to brew whatever we liked and from whatever source, and he will give us any missing ingredients we may need, he wanted to see our initiative, I brew this," said Ginny, showing Hermione the copied potion.
Hermione was reading with Harry and Ron over her shoulder as Ginny was finishing her dinner.
"Where did you get this? It's complicated, especially since it's brewing time is so short," said Hermione.
"A friend gave it to me, he is older, and brilliant," said Ginny.
"Yeah… Just be careful Gin. This potion is bordering with dark magic," warned Hermione.
"Don't worry Hermione," said Ginny as dessert was served.
Chocolate cake, her favorite.
You are different now. What happened before that upset you and what changed.
The thought of ending our… Whatever this is, and chocolate cake.
Why would you think of ending it?
I was talked about it, about the diary. It's fine now don't worry.
Alright, you can handle yourself. Chocolate cake?
Tonight's dessert, and my favorite.
He laughed. She was adorable and simple, he loved that about her… loved?
Now I know what to send you for Christmas.
Why wait until Christmas?
Good point. Soon then. How was your first day back at the castle?
Not bad, got 20 points for the potion you taught me, and oh! My Patronus!
Good job, my darling. What about your Patronus?
I succeeded, and I did it un-verbal, it's a horse!
Really? Not a kitten or at least a lioness?
No. What yours?
Never had any, I am too corrupt I supposed.
Try now.
Why?
Because you are not the same as you were before, please try, Tom.
Alright.
Ginny was pacing in her room, the diary open on her bed, as she waited for Tom to write something.
That was enlightening.
You did it? did it work? What is it?
Yes, yes, and it was a Scorpion.
Stingy.
Tom laughed. He wished he could see her in person, to hold her maybe, but he couldn't meet her, not the way he looks now, and not while they belonged to opposites sides.
Tom?
I am here my darling.
Always?
Always.
Hi,
Some stuff I forgot to tell you.
Small bold writing = Tom handwriting.
Small regular writing = Ginny handwriting.
Big regular writing is the story. (Big bold too).
