Chaos POV

It didn't take long before the MC Chao announced the next event. A one vs. one battle. The board flickered as it shuffled through the various teams until it stopped showing the two mages. There could be no fault found as it was completely randomized. So when his name appeared, Chaos made his way to the center of the arena—pausing briefly as he was announced.

"From Fairy Tail's Team A, we have the newest member of Fairy Tail, Chaos!" Chao bellowed. "He is an all-around Elemental Mage! What great things will he show us?"

Lifting his head, Chaos looked at the silent audience. His lips curled in a gentle smile. He could easily tell they wanted to scream insults but were unable due to him being an unknown factor. This actually worked in his favor. So as he turned in a circle where he stood, Chaos met the large, luminous green eyes of a petite blonde girl. Instantly Chaos knew what she was, a soul.

Then Chaos saw a flash of blonde as it made its way down the steps toward where Fairy Tail was seated. Letting his gaze drift, Chaos saw Lucy. He was surprised but felt happy she'd get to watch his first match. When she sat down by Asuka, her eyes met his. Then her hands raised with both thumbs sticking up.

"Alright, next from Raven Tail is Flare Corona!" Chao said, drawing attention to the arena's other entrance. "Hair Mage!"

Twisting at the waist, Chaos looked back to see a red-haired woman come out. Her eyes seemed unfocused as she sauntered (of all things) up to him. Her red lips twisted into what could have been a smile as she looked him over from head to toe. Chaos just narrowed his eyes and turned to face her.

"Let the match begin!"

Chaos had no idea what a Hair Mage was. So he let his body go into a simple defensive stance. He didn't want to show all the cards in his hand. Curling his fingers, feeling the leather of his gloves tightening and giving a soft creaking sound, Chaos let the smile on his face vanish.

In the span of a single eye blink, Chaos was jumping back on instinct as the woman's hair shifted toward him. Hair Mage was quite literal and a bit disturbing. The brief look of confusion on Flares' face at him dodging let Chaos know she was overly confident in her magic and fighting abilities.

Chaos let his mind adapt and adjust as he dodged Flares' incoming attacks. He was gauging and learning her attack patterns. Chaos knew he needed to end this fight as quickly as possible.

After a few more attacks, Chaos had a good idea about the range Flare could extend her hair. Lifting his hand, Chaos called up his Ether (anima) and willed it into water. So when Flares' next attack reached him, Chaos thrust his hand forward, grasping her hair and thoroughly soaking it while rushing toward her. All while she had a wide-eyed, shocked look on her face. Around them, loud murmurs broke out from the spectators in the stands.

Staying focused, Chaos closed the distance and threw Flares' wet hair into her face. The moment she coughed and sputtered, Chaos spoke loud enough to be heard, 'Ice Palm .'He was now on the offensive as ice shot from his hand and coated her wet hair, freezing it to her body where it stuck—including her face, obscuring her vision partially.

The attack caused Flare to stumble back. Chaos watched her face morph into a mask of rage. The way she rolled her head had Chaos thinking of a heavy metal concert where people headbanged to the music. Her movements broke the thin layer of ice coating her hair.

"Hair Rain: Howling Wolf!"

Narrowing his eyes, Chaos watched as he dodged by jumping back from Flare. The way her crimson hair took on the shape of the upper half of a wolf with fangs bared had Chaos going into a defensive stance. When the wolf made of hair was roughly three feet from him, Chaos raised both hands, his lips pressed into a thin line as he reaccessed his Ether (anima).

"Wind Wall!" He muttered as a green glow surrounded his hands.

The moment Flare's hair amalgamation hit the wind wall; it was thrown back toward her. The magic hair wolf shredded as Chaos flicked his fingers, pushing the Wind Wall toward Flare, who shouted as she jumped to the side to dodge. Yet her reaction was too late, and Chaos and everyone present watched as she was sent flying into the wall behind her.

The dust kicked up from both the attack and impact settled quickly once Chaos' attack dissipated. Flare was revealed covered in dust, while her hair was a muddy mess. What had Chaos not moving was the manic gleam in the woman's red-eyes look to the left of Chaos as she smiled dazedly. Instinct had Chaos following where she was looking and saw a muddy tipped lock of red-hair moving threateningly next to Asuka.

Lucy POV

Lucy had found it hard to look away from the battle in the arena. She knew full well Chaos was purposefully not going full tilt. Chaos was keeping it to the basics. Like when he had sparred with her and her Spirits. At the thought of her friends, Lucy felt a lump in her throat. It took a few tries before she could make it vanish.

"Damn, he's toying with the red-head."

Slightly tilting her head, Lucy saw Bickslow, Freed, and Evergreen. The serious look on Bickslow's case let Lucy know he was absorbed in the battle below them. Having fought the Seith Mage before, she had a rough estimate of how smart he really was. The goofy, flirtatious personality was mainly a facade he created.

When muttering resounded all around her, Lucy looked back to the area. Chaos had used his anima to create water and had attacked Flare's hair, soaking it. Her eyes tracked him as he darted in close to physically attack, only to use ice anima next, freezing flares hair. Lucy gave a soft giggle when she heard him call out his attack as Ice jumped from his open palm to Flare's hair.

It was apparent afterward Flare was stumbling and pissed off. Lucy could tell by Flare's body language she was furious. Lucy just snorted, wondering if everyone really thought all members of Fairy Tail were weak and easily bullied? Then again, she could hold her own in a battle against Flare, barring outside interference.

The soft gasp from Asuka as Flare made her hair resemble a wolf had Lucy smiling at the top of the child's head. But in seconds, Flares' attack was shorn by Chaos' Wind Wall. The urge to jump up and shout as Flare was sent flying into the wall was powerful. But Lucy suppressed it as she watched Chaos as the dust settled in the arena.

When he didn't attack to finish the fight, Lucy felt a sense of foreboding. The moment her eyes met Chaos' when he looked in her direction, Lucy knew something was up. Keeping her face forward, Lucy glanced around her. It was easy to spot the mud-covered red lock of hair beside Asuka. Forcing a smile to stay plastered on her face, Lucy slightly lifted her chin as she blinked once to let Chaos know she was aware of Flare's Hair.

Understanding flashed in his eyes as Lucy watched his eyes go eerily cold. The frown that graced his lips turned his handsome face into an intimidating mask. Lucy carefully reached behind Asuka and grabbed Flare's lock of hair. And as if that was the signal, Chaos rushed forward. It was clear he was going to attack without mercy.

Lucy did her best not to lose her grip on the wet and muddy lock of hair. Yet her eyes were glued on the action in the arena. She had witnessed his fight against all Dragon Slayers in Fairy Tail. This fight now had a much different feel from that. While Chaos had been serious then, he was doing it in good fun. Now Lucy saw what it meant when he was angry and with intent to harm. It gave her chills as both of Chaos' hands glowed as he used his Ether (anima), changing it to a deep blue that indicated water on one. And the other a gray-brown for the earth.

When Chaos was a little more than a foot from Flare, he dropped and slammed his hands onto the ground. Lucy watched as the ground turned to mud. The scream of panic from Flare as her body began to sink into the mud. It dawned on Lucy what Chaos had done; he had created wet quicksand to trap Flare so she couldn't dodge his attacks. Lucy found it an interesting use of his Ether (anima).

As Flare continued to struggle, her body sunk deeper until it was at her mid-thighs. Lucy gave another hard tug on the dirty hair in her hand. It felt like cheating, but Lucy knew Flare would hurt Asuka if she let go. And Lucy knew she wouldn't have been able to continue the fight if she was in Chaos' place; she'd forfeit.

The brilliant glow of a pale white-yellow had Lucy widening her eyes. Soon the arena was filled with a distinctive crackle as the air seemed to be charged. She was looking at Chaos, who Raised his hands above his head before dropping them down in a V-like shape sending out two slashing waves of Lightning.

"Heaven's Wrath."

The lighting crackling kept Lucy's attention as it raced across the wet ground and struck Flare. The piercing screams of pain from the Hair Mage had Lucy flinching as her hands instinctively gripped Flares hair tighter, pulling it up towards her chest. Letting her eyes drift back to Chaos, she saw that there was no ounce of remorse in his face and a detached sense of being as he watched Flare being electrocuted by his attack.

When Chaos shook his head, his mouth opened as he spoke, "There are a few things I as a person will never tolerate." His voice rang in the silence. "One is the harm of a child as an underhanded tactic to win or escape."

When Chaos' head lifted so he was looking in her direction, Lucy met his gaze. All around her loud gasp erupted as a floating Lacrima Camera zoomed to her and showed on the big screen her holding Flare's hair. Allowing all to see that Flare had done something against the rules of the Grand Magic Games to win.

"Fairy Tail may be the bottom of the barrel to you all," Chaos spoke again. Lucy felt a chill brush across her skin. "But we would never do anything underhanded to win. We are a fair and straightforward Guild. And we cherish all life."

Lucy finally let go of Flare's hair as she watched Chaos turn and walk out of the arena. She didn't need anyone to tell her that she was smiling widely like an idiot or that her eyes shone with pride at what Chaos had said and done. Nope.

Then it dawned on Lucy that they had won the match, raising at least one of their team's ranks. Her emotions bubbled over as she jumped up and gave a loud resounding whoop. It caused Chaos to stop and look back at her and smile. His brilliant eyes shone in amusement at her antics, causing Lucy to feel heat crawl across her cheeks.
