NO. 2 "a soft whimper"
Using the #altprompt of "Whimpering"
The academy is staying in the house and Allison hears Five whimpering in his sleep.
"Mommy, when are you coming home?"
Allison kept her voice at a hush, as Luther's snores filled the hallway.
"I'm hoping soon, baby. And maybe I'll have some of your uncles with me to meet."
"Really?"
There was a noise on the other line, which Allison recognized as Patrick, giving some sort of signal to Claire that it was time to get off the phone.
"I'm going to let you go now, sweety. You should try to get to sleep."
"Okay mommy. I love you."
"I love you too."
Allison held the phone for a few more moments near her ear, waiting for the dead-click on the other end, before putting it back on the receiver.
She lay her forehead against the phone for a few moments, listening to the noises around her.
She thought she heard Diego say something when she was on the phone, but now she figured it was just him talking in his sleep, like he did when they were kids.
She turned to head into her room when a new sound caused her to stop short.
Whimpering.
She turned, closing her eyes so she could focus on her hearing.
Five…
She made her way quietly to his door frame. The door was partially open so she could peek inside.
He let out the pathetic noise again as he shifted on his side.
Allison made her way inside and sat next to him on the bed.
He shifted again onto his back. His breathing was becoming more ragged and his eyes were tracking under his lids and he let out another sound, this time more of a moan than a whimper.
"Five?"
His head turned slightly as she said his name, but he didn't wake. His eyebrows furrowed and his nose scrunched slightly.
"Five…"Allison said softly, placing a hand on his cheek.
He gasped and shot up.
Allison only had a moment to consider if he would be on defense, or blink. But then she realized his arms were around her. She slowly put her arms around him as well, giving a reassuring squeeze.
They didn't say anything. For a few moments they just sat there, holding onto one another, as Five calmed down.
Finally he pulled back and in the moonlit room, she could make out his face searching over hers. He raised his hand, quietly, to her cheek, almost as if to make sure she was real.
She gave him a small smile.
"Sometimes…" he started, softly. "Sometimes I'm still trapped back there. In the apocalypse…and…"
"Shh."
She pulled him back into her.
"You're home now with us. I know it's not always ideal when dealing with us…"
He placed his head on her shoulder for a moment.
"All I wanted was to get back to you. Messy family and all."
They sat in silence for a few moments.
Then she started to get back up as he laid back down.
...
The next day there was just a quiet understanding between them, and it never was brought up
This one was REALLY short I know. Some of them will be, because I can only think of so much.
Still hope you liked it!
