Chapter 4
ThousandSonSorcere- I guess.
Rainier Agpad Pangusban- Yeah, I honestly thought this wouldn't work as well when I was first writing this, but I'm honestly surprised with how many have faved or followed this story. I guess most things can work if you got a competent enough writer and premise.
Rosie's Emporium
Lower levels
Sahn-Ikal couldn't help but growl as his mother inspected him of any dirt or wrinkles on his shirt, all with her typical smile. She, like her fellow Overlord Alastor, always had a smile on her face when dealing with anyone, saying it helped maintain dominance over an opponent and to infuriate those that they dislike. Sahn-Ikal found it annoying and pointless, but it's his mother's way of doing things and he wasn't going to argue about it.
"Mother, I think you can stop now." Said Sahn-Ikal as he stepped a bit back from his mother's dainty hands, pulling his dress shirt away from them. Rosie, instead of getting annoyed, just smiled wider.
"Come now, dear." Said Rosie as she looked at her son, seeing him in his beautiful grey dress shirt and pants. "You have to look at your absolute best at all times. By having a speck of dust visible on your attire, you're telling your potential investors, enemies, allies, people you wish to convince to doing something of your desire, and things in between, that you're a lazy, unorganized fool that can't bother maintaining his attire at all. Appearances are vital in securing your wants in the world of business and politics. Franklin and I knew this well. Alastor knows it as well. Lucifer knows it as well. Even your father knows it as well. Though, admittedly, his definition of appearances is being a hulking hunk of dark metal and intimidation that accomplishes his wants by intimidating his foes through his fearsome appearance rather than speaking ethically and with grace. Though, I admit, it is an effective means for him, given his resources and his looks. His sexy and ravaging looks." Sahn-Ikal rolled his eyes at seeing his mother smiled lustfully at the thought of his father. After a minute of those, Rosie continued. "So please, let me fix up your attire so we can move on."
"It's not as if I'm going to be showing much to anyone." Said Sahn-Ikal as Rosie once again inspected his attire. "It's going to be the same people as always. Never anyone new I need to impress. It's always people that you completely trust."
"Do I have to go through that speech again?" Asked Rosie as she continued her inspection of her son's clothing. A few minutes later, she was done, fully satisfied that no speck of dust was noticeable on her son's clothing, and took a step back at her son. "Good. Now, you may leave for your studies. Be on your best behavior while I'm gone. Things are still a little downtrodden with Franklin's death, so I still have much to do in reorganizing the Emporium to help compensate the loss of one of it's owners. I'd rather not have to hear some bad things coming from your tutors regarding you." Sahn-Ikal simply sighed before nodding.
"Very well, mother." Said Sahn-Ikal. "But you can't keep this up for much longer. Sooner or later, either father will figure of my existence or those angels will use both of us as a way to get to father. What do you plan to do when the latter happens?" Rosie sighed at that.
"When that comes, I'll deal with it accordingly." Said Rosie. "The angel that caused this situation for us is a lot of things, but irrational is not one of them. She won't be stupid enough to dare hurt us when we're more valuable to him and the other angels alive."
"And what if we become more valuable to him dead?" Asked Sahn-Ikal. "You can't keep this up mother. We have to take a stand or else something terrible will happen. Something worse than just me being hurt or killed. Something that may threaten the entirety of hell. Are you willing to allow any of that to happen just to avoid me being hurt?" Rosie, instead of answering, just smiled wider, though Sahn-Ikal knew it was a forced one.
"Don't be silly, son." Said Rosie as she began taking a few steps away from her son. "The angels would never use us to do something as drastic as that. Besides, how could using us be an effective means to threaten all of hell? Don't be paranoid, my son. While paranoia is a good thing to have in hell, having it too much is quite dangerous. Now run along, I got an Emporium to run. We'll talk later tonight." With that Rosie left her son. As she did, however, her smile was gone and a worried look appeared on her face. Much as she didn't want to admit it, she secretly feared that her son may be right. That the angels may be planning to do something drastic against hell for what Mordekaiser did to them so long ago. And that they're the key to doing so.
Her son, meanwhile, was annoyed with his mother's inability to see beyond his personal safety. She wasn't seeing the big picture. That the angels may be planning to do something to them later on when it becomes better for them to do so. It wouldn't surprise him that the angels, feeling bitter over Mordekaiser's successful massacre against their exterminators thousands of years ago and wanting revenge for it, would make some sort of ritual, spell, or plan to bring down his father with them at the forefront, thus reducing the power of the Immortal Bastion significantly, if not completely. If such a plan was in the making, then they needed to disrupt it. And to do that, they needed his father's resources and power to do so. And since his mother was unwilling to do it, then he needed to take matters to his own hands. Recalling that she would be receiving a visit from Alastor later today, Sahn-Ikal began formulating a plan.
Later
Alastor
Rosie's Emporium surface levels
"Why hello, Rosie. I must thank you for your invitation for tea." Said Alastor as he looked at Rosie, who smiled at him, as she made her way to the table they usually use for their get-togethers. It was a table in a room in the upper levels of her Emporium that gave them complete privacy from any of her customers and employees. The two had been close friends ever since Alastor became an Overlord. Their love for the finer things in life has helped them become friends. Even allies in the political field that came with being an Overlord. It also helped that Rosie cared little, if at all, that he was a sinner, further helping their friendship status.
"It's my pleasure, Alastor." Said Rosie as she led him to the prepared table, complete with cookies and tea. Upon sitting down, Rosie poured Alastor his cup of tea before pouring her. "I'm just glad that you had the time to spend on a good friend. I see that your investment in the princess's hotel hasn't prevented you from undertaking other joys in life." Alastor smiled wider as he took his teacup.
"Why of course." Said Alastor before taking a sip of his tea. "I may be an investor of the princess's nonsense of a hotel, but that doesn't mean I devout all of my time to it. I still have my own agendas I want to fulfill and accomplish. There are still urges and opportunities out there that can give the excitement and entertainment I crave. It would be foolhardy to put all my hopes into one thing, my dear."
"Of course." Said Rosie. "Like yesterday, when you kept the arrival of Mordekaiser a secret from all of us, so you can see our surprised reactions. Correct?" Alastor simply shrugged.
"Of course. It was quite entertaining, my dear. Especially yours." Said Alastor as he recalled all that. "If I recall, there was a blush on your face when you saw Mordekaiser and you moved it away to prevent him from seeing it. Care to elaborate?"
"I simply didn't want to embarrass myself any further." Said Rosie with a smile. "He is Lucifer's rival after all. It would not do to have a fellow investor seeing me in a coughing fit and spilled tea near me." Alastor simply hummed at that, finding the explanation rather weak. If he recalled correctly, he sensed some emotional distress from Rosie whenever she was near the Iron Revenant. Even when she was leaving, she was quite emotional. Far more emotional than usual. This left him quite intrigued. What could cause such an emotional response from his dear friend, who usually was calm and collected like him? It certainly wasn't being near the Iron Revenant. She did that many times during Mordekaiser's forced meeting sessions and parties he had to attend. It certainly wasn't being alone with him. There were plenty of people nearby. And she usually was around powerful individuals, so it couldn't be because of Mordekaiser's great power alone. Plus, the emotional aura around her was filled with regret and longing. And it was all directed at the Iron Revenant. Could it be that his fellow Overlord loved the Iron Revenant? Well, it would certainly make an interesting story if that was true. He knew that she was around when the Iron Revenant came to be, so did something happen between the two to cause feelings to form? Oh, how interesting this was getting.
"Hmm, a rather weak answer, my dear." Said Alastor as he fully drank his tea. Setting down his cup, he looked at Rosie, who rose an eyebrow at his response. "I sensed your emotional response when around the Iron Revenant. They were quite interesting. Regret mixed in with sadness and longing. That's quite interesting. Isn't it?" Upon hearing all that, Rosie flinched a bit at that, causing Alastor's smile to widen. "Given your reaction to that, I dare say you have feelings for him. Am I correct in that assumption?" Seeing Rosie stay silent at all this made Alastor nod at that. "I see. Considering both of you are considerably older than I, perhaps I shouldn't be surprised. Tell me, how did such development of intimacy happen between you two? That is certainly a juicy and entertaining thing to talk about."
"It would certainly would if it didn't pertain to my own life." Said Rosie as she narrowed her eyes at Alastor. "I do not wish to remove you from my short lists of friends Alastor, so I wish for you to drop this topic." Despite the edge in her voice, Alastor can see the fear in her eyes for having her feelings for Mordekaiser revealed, causing him to hum.
"Fair enough, but I must ask. Did you sire a child with him?" Asked Alastor. The question caused Rosie to glare at him with her smile now a feral one. Raising his hand in surrender, Alastor spoke. "Forgive me, that was ungentlemanly of me to say such a thing to you. Because of this and my friendship with you, I'll leave you to cool off." With that, Alastor got up and left the room, leaving a fuming Rosie alone. Once he was gone, Rosie sighed. She respected Alastor and loved him like a brother, but can he infuriate her if he wanted to. Taking a deep breath, Rosie drank what's left of her tea before refilling her cup. As she did so, she wondered what her son was doing at the moment. Probably studying like a good boy.
Meanwhile
Alastor
"*Hums* Rosie and Mordekaiser, huh? Quite interesting." Thought Alastor with a smile as he looked at a frame of Rosie and Franklin back when Franklin was still alive. It also seemed that the picture was back when the Emporium had just started. Seeing the picture of Rosie, Alastor wondered how she developed feelings for the Iron Revenant. "I wouldn't call myself a historian by any stretch, but is certainly something that I would like to know. Especially if Mordekaiser has an heir." Looking at his claws, Alastor wondered if Mordekaiser himself knew of these feelings of Rosie or not. It would make a good drama show if he did. As he wondered about this more, he suddenly felt the presence of someone behind him. The presence was…something he never felt before. It felt similar to Rosies', but also has the presence of a being from the Immortal Bastion. Both fused together. Upon this revelation, Alastor's smile grew wider and he turned around, seeing a male version of Rosie, but with dark green eyes instead of black. Seeing this, Alastor had his suspicions confirmed. Rosie did interlope with Mordekaiser and produced him an heir. Quite entertaining and intriguing.
"Well now, this is certainly interesting." Said Alastor, deciding to play dumb for a moment, so he can figure out what the boy wants. "Your aura of power is quite different from those in the denizens of hell. Now all have rather unique aura compared to each other, but yours is even more so. Why is that?" Instead of answering the question, the boy introduced himself.
"I'm Sahn-Ikal, son of the Overlord Rosie and the ruler of the Immortal Bastion, Mordekaiser." Said the boy, showing no signs of weakness or fear towards the powerful Overlord, slightly impressing him. He clearly had inherited both of his parent's confidence and ability to hid their fear of others. Oh yes. "And I'm here to make a deal with you, Radio Demon." Raising an eyebrow at that, Alastor hid his surprise at this revelation before speaking.
"Well, this is getting quite intriguing. Quite intriguing indeed." Said Alastor as he placed his hands and cane behind his back. Looking down at the boy, he was around Charlie in terms of height, probably even the same age as her, so he can leer down on him if he wanted. When the boy didn't flinch away or back off, Alastor knew he was quite a confident individual. Overconfident? He'll have to wait and see. "I'm sure your mother has told you the dangers of making a deal with a deal maker, boy. How we easily can make a deal suit to our own advantages and only ours in the long term."
"She has." Said Sahn-Ikal. "It's one of the first things she taught me while I was growing up."
"And yet you wish to make a deal with me." Said Alastor. "Why is that? It must be something important for you to do so. And what would that be?"
"None of your concern." Said Sahn-Ikal. "Not yet. So, can we make the deal now or do we do it latter? I wish to do this without my mother knowing it before it's too late." Raising an eyebrow at that, Alastor's smile grew feral. He highly doubted this was a mere child rebellion against their parents. No, something else was behind this, and Alastor was intrigued to know what it was.
"Well, since your quite eager to make a deal, despite the dangers of it, let's." Said Alastor as he held out a hand, dark energy surrounding it. "What shall the deal be?" Sahn-Ikal looked at the hand before taking it and saying the terms of the deal.
Meanwhile
Rosie
Rosie was drinking a second cup of tea when she felt a disturbance coming nearby. Dark energy was forming nearby, and Rosie nearly choked on her tea. This energy was familiar to her. A deal was being made and the only deal maker around right now was.
Rosie quickly got up from her chair and ran to where the deal was being made, lifting her dress to allow her to do so without tripping on it. A few minutes later, she found Alastor with, to her horror, her son. The two of them making a deal and had just completed it. Once the contract was complete, Alastor let go of her son's hand and looked down at the boy with a calm stare as if nothing terrible had just happened between them. Anything terrible for her son anyway.
It was then that Rosie made herself known.
"What is the meaning of this?" Demanded Rosie as she walked towards the two men, anger clear on her face. Alastor and her son looked at her as she made her way to them. "Why was a deal being made in my Emporium?"
"Well, my dear Rosie." Said Alastor with his usual happy to smile, twirling his cane around as he spoke in his usual joyful voice. Normally Rosie was fine with this, but this time, she wasn't in the mood as her son just made a deal with Alastor. "Your son," Rosie flinched at that, making Alastor chuckle before continuing. ", just made a deal with me. In exchange for helping him get a job in the Happy hotel, I get to three demands from him. Simple as that. Nothing too extreme. Just a simple request for assistance in acquiring a financially stable job in exchange for favors. Nothing to worry about." Upon hearing that all that, Rosie exploded.
"No! Absolutely not!" Yelled Rosie, glaring at Alastor, teeth bared like a shark, causing Alastor to smile a Chesire-like grin, having never seen Rosie lose her temper before. It was both exciting and terrifying to see. Well, more exciting than terrifying for him. Oh yes. "I will not send my son away from the Emporium. I demand that this deal be revoked." Alastor just chuckled at that.
"Now dear, there isn't anything to worry about." Said Alastor with a seemingly kind smile. "I'm not going to demand some ridiculous thing like taking something from Lucifer or another Overlord. No, why would I do that to you, my dear? There are other terms to the deal that we managed to iron out. For one, it must only be for the benefit of the hotel and nothing for my own benefit only. Two, I can't do anything against you or the Immortal Bastion. And third, it must not involve the death of anyone. Does thing satisfy you." Rosie just glared at her friend, who just kept his smile. She kept that glare for a few more minutes until she spoke again.
"Leave." Demanded Rosie. "I don't want to see you until I'm ready." Alastor just nodded at that before taking his leave, teleporting himself away from the Emporium. Once he was gone, Rosie turned to her son, disappointment, and anger clear on her face. "Your room. Now." With that, she urged him to follow her, which her son did.
Few minutes later
Sahn-Ikal's room
After opening the door that leads to her son's personal chambers, she led her son into it and locked the door. She then casted a spell to prevent people from listening in to their conversation or teleporting inside. Once doing so, she glared at her son.
"What is the meaning of this!?" Demanded Rosie, fury in her voice. "Making a deal with Alastor!? Do you not remember how foolish it is to make a deal with a deal-maker!? How easy it is to be manipulated and be destroyed by them?! Why would you make such a deal!?"
"I did it because it's time to stop living under the threat of the angels." Said Sahn-Ikal as he glared at his mother. "We've been living under the threats of the angels for far too long, mother. I'm sick of living under the threat of being killed by angels when the solution to our problems is right in front of us. I'm sick of having those angels keep you under their thumb, mother. It's time to fight back."
"It's not!" Yelled Rosie, teeth bared. "This is beyond ludicrous. You are not your father. You don't have his strength or resources. And you don't have the ability to come back like he did. And I don't either. The angels are too powerful for us, even now. Why do you think I'm been training you for their inevitable betrayal? We're not strong enough to take them on. We needed to wait for more until the time came to end the deal on our terms. When we had an advantage. And you threw it out with this deal you made with Alastor! Now, you may have caused something drastic to happen now! All because of your impatience!" Placing a hand on her throat, Rosie took a moment to collect herself, having never yelled that long for as long as she could remember. As she recovered, Sahn-Ikal spoke.
"Or I might have thrown whatever plans the angels have revolving us." Said her son. The way he spoke, full of confidence and conviction, just annoyed Rosie. "I may have done as you say, mother, you might be right, but I refuse to let that possibility to control or prevent me from doing what I believe is the correct course of action. If I'm right, then all is well for us. If you're right, then I have done a terrible mistake and I'll subject myself, willingly, to whatever wrath is inflicted upon me for this. But, regardless, there's no stopping what I've set in motion. Now, all that is left is hope that my decision was the right one and to do whatever we can to make it so." Rosie, upon hearing all that, saw much of the boy's father in him. The confidence. The surety of his choices. The unwillingness to allow himself to be under the thrall of what fate left him or be under the thumb of those that he deems unworthy of his loyalty. For a moment, she didn't see her son. Rather his father, back before he became the Iron Revenant.
Longing for Mordekaiser showing up, Rosie turned around from her son, unwilling to see such a stark reminder of Mordekaiser at the moment.
"Very well." Said Rosie after a few moments. "Do this deal you made with Alastor and do whatever assignment he places upon you in that hotel of the princess. Just please, be safe. I don't want to lose." The response hurt Rosie more than everything she experienced today.
"Life is not without it's downs, mother." Said Sahn-Ikal. "One must experience loss and pain in order to grow stronger and become a stronger individual. Even if that loss is the loss of a loved one or possibly your life." Rosie clenched her eyes close at that. He was so much like Mordekaiser it hurt.
"Very well. I'll leave you to your devices." Said Rosie. "Prepare yourself. You're leaving tomorrow along with whatever supplies I'm supplying to the princess's hotel. I'll have Helska take you there." With that Rosie left the room, unlocking the door and closing it as she left. Once she did, Sahn-Ikal couldn't help but sigh and shudder as he made his way to his bed. Upon arriving, he leaned on it for support. The first step of his plan was done and now he must see to doing the rest in order to complete his goals. The die was cast and now he must fight on to complete the path he willingly has chosen for himself.
Much later
Rosie
"And you promise me that you'll only do things that are for the benefit of the hotel?" Asked Rosie as she looked at Alastor. She had contacted him later on and asked for him to meet her in private in her personal chambers. Though she was still mad at him for making a deal with her son, she wanted to speak with him about the terms of the deal. "You won't have him kill people against his will or the princess'?"
"Of course." Said Alastor before summoning a piece of paper for her. "If you wish to know about all the details of the deal, here's a piece of paper for you that lists them all. I must admit, he was quite thorough in the terms. And he did it so well and in so little time that I was impressed. He certainly has inherited thoroughness, Rosie. He certainly did." Rosie took the piece of paper and had it placed in one of her dress's sleeves. Once that was done, she asked a different question.
"And you will do whatever you can to keep him safe?" Asked Rosie, her motherly instincts kicking in. Alastor just nodded as he looked at Rosie. "Along with the rest of the hotel staff? As well as swearing you won't reveal his father to anyone unless I say so?"
"Of course, Rosie." Said Alastor. "It'll be much more entertaining to see you or him confess it rather than it be me. Plus, it'll add into the entertainment value if he spends time with the hotel staff, getting to know them as individuals and even becoming friends with them, and keeping this as a secret from them when he really shouldn't. It'll be quite interesting to see what will happen from there. Oh yes." Ignoring that reasoning, Rosie asked one last question.
"Why did you make a deal with my son, Alastor?" Asked Rosie, her voice full of suspicion. "What do you have to gain from all this?" Alastor just shrugged.
"Could by a myriad of reasons, my dear." Said Alastor. "My own entertainment. My attempt to be a Samaritan. A piece of a puzzle that I need to gain more power. Or could be a myriad of reasons, all mixed together. You know me, Rosie." He then looked a clock nearby and spoke. "Well, I have to go now, my dear. Lot's of things to do tonight. So many victims to slaughter and record for my audience. Until we see each other again." With that, Alastor teleported away, leaving Rosie alone. Sighing, Rosie worried for her son's safety as she sat on her bed. Worrying so much for his safety. She didn't care much about her own safety so long as he was safe.
Tomorrow
Charlie
Happy hotel
"Oh, this is so exciting!" Yelled Charlie as she gushed over the new staff that was standing in front of her, all of them silent as they watched the princess of hell cheer and bounce around in happiness at seeing so many people assigned to help her in her passion project, numbering fifty in total.
Twenty of them belonged to the Immortal Bastion. All of them were dark armored beings with a human skull-like face with green eyes and the glowing mist that was signature of most Immortal Bastion citizens that flowed from their torsos. Their faces were set in a permanent frown that unnerved many around them. These were Mordekaiser's Iron guard, the highly trained and loyal bodyguards of Mordekaiser. The fact they were here indicated just how serious Mordekaiser was taking this hotel seriously as they are rarely seen beyond board meetings between Overlords and the annual parties that Mordekaiser attends.
Charlie didn't think it was necessary to have guards around the hotel, seeing as an attack on it was an attack on Lucifer's daughter, and Lucifer will not take kindly to such an attack, but Vaggie supported it, knowing just how many people will attack them simply because of Charlie's affiliation with the king of hell. Plus, it may help keep the more difficult customers in line as well as any scammers that try to get free room and food from them. Though even she was stunned at seeing the Iron guard. Mordekaiser must be really serious if he had his personal guard defending the hotel.
The rest of the people were Rosie's employees. Knowing what a hotel needs, she had sent employees with good knowledge and experiences in cooking, psychology, counseling, and other necessitates a rehabilitation establishment needs to be effective. Along with that, there were some more mundane things like actual working refrigerators and other things.
All this, combined with the thought of doing some real good for her kingdom, left Charlie ecstatic. She wanted to go and hug every single one of them, but Vaggie convinced her to refrain from doing so, saying it wouldn't leave a good impression on her new employees.
Calming down a bit, Charlie looked at her new employees and spoke.
"Welcome to the happy hotel!" Yelled Charlie as she directed people to her hotel sign, which said Hazbin hotel instead of happy hotel, something that confused a few of Rosie's workers. "I'm so glad that you all decided to help in this project. With your help, we'll make the exterminations completely unnecessary and to pave the way for a bright future for the citizens of hell. I know that it'll be a long road for all of us, filled with ups and downs, but I'm confident that, if we try our hardest and never give up, we'll be the first steps in making a better society for all denizens of hell." Her new employees stayed silent. Rosie's workers looked at each other, unsure if they have the same enthusiasm as the princess, while the Iron guard stayed silent, completely emotionless and uncaring to the end goals of the princess. Mordekaiser had ordered them to guard this establishment and that is what they'll do. Pouting at their lack of enthusiasm, Charlie nonetheless invited them all into the hotel, where they'll get their assignments from her hotel manager. As they all entered her hotel, she suddenly felt the magic of teleportation at work. Looking at the source, she saw a white-coated female demon walking up to her with a gray-skinned male one with gray hair and green eyes. Pursing her lips in curiosity, Charlie watched as they walked up to her, stopping a few inches from her. The female demon then pushed her glasses up before speaking.
"Hello, princess Charlotte." Said the demon. "I'm Helska, one of Rosie's servants. I'm here to deliver you another employee that'll help you with the functions of this hotel." She then waved her hand to the male demon next to her, wearing a fine gray dress shirt and pants. "This is Sahn-Ikal. He'll help you in providing security in your establishment. Rosie knows that the Iron Revenant has already provided the forces necessary in protecting this establishment, but she wanted to help add into those personal, even if by a small margin. He's been trained well, princess, he'll serve your hotel well. And miss Rosie will not take no for an answer. This is because he," Helska looked at Sahn-Ikal with annoyance in her eyes before continuing. ", made a deal with the radio demon. A very specific and strict one, but a deal nonetheless." Charlie looked surprised at that, stunned that this boy made a deal with Alastor. A part of her wondered why he would do so and was worried about what made him do so, but she nonetheless nodded.
"Well, if he wanted to help out with the hotel, then I'm all for it." Said Charlie with a big smile. She then went up to Sahn-Ikal and took his hand and shook it. "Welcome aboard! You're going to love it here." Sahn-Ikal just nodded as he swore he saw that rainbows appeared behind the princess of hell.
"Eager to help." Said Sahn-Ikal as he shook the princess's hand. Once that was done, the two left for the hotel, leaving Helska alone. Once she was, Helska went to a truck that was unloading all the stuff that Rosie had supplied the Happy hotel, deciding to oversee the operation. As she walked, Helska hoped that everything will go well for everyone. This deal between Alastor and Rosie's child. Logic dictated that it wasn't possible and she usually followed it, but this occasion, she'll make an exception.
