When Seth had been a kid they had, on more than one occasion, done unspeakable things to Sadie's Barbie dolls in the name of science. There'd been no real reason for it other than cruelty, with maybe a hint of curiosity of "I wonder what happens if I slice down her chest with the box cutter" or "I wonder what'll happen if I put her face on the burner."

This was punishment for that.

Now Seth was the Barbie doll and their captors were very curious to see what would happen next.

"We choose our projects very carefully, Seth," Liv was saying.

"We can't have any weaknesses," Chris added, with a grin that made Seth's skin crawl.

"I'm pretty much all weaknesses," Seth said, "I swing wildly in between egotism and insecurity. You should just let me go." They just wanted to get back to Morgan. It was the only thing in the world that mattered to them right now.

"We'd have to kill you," Liv said, somehow still sounding like her upbeat self. It was eerie. She sounded just as happy about potential murder as she did about changing the world.

"What are you going to do to me?" Seth had seen enough movies to know that it would be cliché if this worked.

"We're going to help you reach your full potential. And you, my friend, are going to help us change the world." Before Seth could scream or struggle, Chris slipped a mask over their face and they felt themself lose consciousness. It happened so fast, a total freefall into darkness. The only thing Seth could think of was how desperately they wished they were with Morgan right now.

When they woke up, Morgan was the furthest thing from their mind. They tried to speak but it came out as a strangled squeak. They felt different. Inhuman. Well, it wasn't so different, to feel inhuman. People had often treated them as an oddity because of their gender presentation. But this was a different kind of presentation entirely. Their teeth were sharper, their arms had been stretched out into complex wings, their feet had been mutilated into claws. They were, by their own best guess, a very large mutated bat.

They tried to speak again, almost convincing themself that their squeaky cries sounded like "Help me."

But no one could help them now. No one knew where they were, or what they'd become.

"I'll keep it simple, Seth. Your job is to keep Big Hero 6 off our trail. I know you know them, I know you know their weaknesses. I know, as well, that you wouldn't dream of escaping or defying orders because we are the only ones who can turn you back. And we're the only ones who are keeping your partner from facing a similar fate.

Seth let out a desperate screech and Liv simply laughed.

"Don't worry your pretty little head," Chris said, "she's safe for now. And as long as you do your job and she doesn't go sticking her head in our business, she'll stay safe. But if either of you tries anything…"

"Leave it up to their imagination, Chris. Perhaps that will keep them motivated. And don't worry, you're still on the payroll. You will be rewarded for cooperation just as you'll be punished for stepping out of line. So let's get to work. Release them."

Immediately Seth tried to attack Chris and immediately a shock went through their body.

"Let's not try anything, alright? For Morgan's sake." Liv kept smiling, chilling Seth to the bone.

The threat hadn't felt real until Liv revealed she knew Morgan's name. There was no telling what else she knew about Seth. Seth was in agony, and not just from the electroshock. Morgan would be in danger if Seth didn't play their part right. They didn't want to antagonize Big Hero 6, but Morgan was ultimately more important to them. To be honest, they would have let the whole city crumble in the catastrophe if it would have ensured Morgan's safety.

"Ready for your test flight, Seth? We'll be able to see everything you do. So don't slip up."

Seth didn't respond, just unfurled their wings and prepared to fly.

GoGo and Fred were alone on night patrol, talking casually between themselves.

"She definitely likes you, GoGo. You should make your move."

"These things take time. I have to go slow. I have time, we live together."

"What if she moves out?"

"Why would she move out?"

"I never thought I'd see you take things slow."

"Yeah, well some things are too important to rush- do you hear that?"

"You're just trying to change the subject."

"No, seriously, shut up. Something's coming…" GoGo looked around and prepared to fight, and Fred decided to trust GoGo's instincts. Then, just as GoGo had suspected, the monster appeared.

Seth swooped in, attacking GoGo and Fred. Of course, it was impossible to tell that it was Seth. The dark blue eyes were somewhat familiar, and when Fred was trying to recall the winged beast later, he would remember two very deliberate scars on the beast's chest. But other than that, Seth was entirely transformed. They even appeared to be taller than they had been before. Fred would stay up late thinking about the beast who had attacked but not harmed them before flying away. GoGo would never admit it, but she lost sleep that night too. And it would be a long time before Seth got any sleep.

Morgan wasn't sleeping either. She'd tried to call Seth again, she'd tried to call Sycorax. She just kept failing to reach Seth. She was frantic and falling apart. She'd had a panic attack in their bedroom and was now in the basement, listlessly scrolling through social media, trying to see if there was any buzz, any news of kidnapping or crimes or something she could possibly trace back to Seth.

In trying to find one missing person, she somehow uncovered another. She'd had to scroll back up and stare at the photo for a while. She'd rubbed her eyes, convinced that her panicked and exhausted mind was lying to her, but the photo didn't lie. She grabbed the box Seth had packed up this morning and held up the head in comparison, confirming it. The missing corpse, the body that had never been found, the villain who had vanished in a flash… Was fast asleep on a couch in a photo posted on DJ Parasite's Instagram.

"Obake… How…?" And then her curiosity turned to anger, jumping to conclusions. If something evil was happening, if people were disappearing, then maybe the vilest villain of all had something to do with it. Morgan knew Obake's robot children were still on the move, with Trina and Noodle Burger Boy doing their own thing now. The photo proved that Obake was still out there as well. And Obake had known about Morgan and Seth…

"Oh shit, oh shit… He kidnapped my partner. That bastard! I'm gonna… I'm gonna give him a piece of my mind." Morgan stood up and grabbed her baseball bat, and then sunk back down into her seat.

"But first I have to find him…" It turned out, that would be much easier than finding Seth. Morgan just had to focus and think like Obake.
