Chapter 4
Percy cannot sleep every time he closed his eyes the image of his mother squeezed to death haunts his dreams so tiptoed towards the door slowly opening it, he looked at the either side, once he was sure there was no one he closed the door behind him and inhaled some fresh air.
He kept walking not really paying attention to where he is going. It was as if his legs knew where to go. He had been walking what felt like hours when he stopped. He felt like he was in a familiar place. He was in front of the temple built for Poseidon; his father or that's what the Amazons said he bitterly thought.
Over the past few weeks his life changed completely. His mother the woman who raised him was apparently not his mother but still the woman gave her life to protect him. She would have been alive if she didn't raise him. It was his fault she died. A part of him was also angry at the two Amazons: Antiope and Artemis for saving him, not his mother.
He looked disdainfully at the temple before walking away from it.
Unknown to him four figures were watching him from the top of the hill.
"Here use this" Antiope told passing him a huge sword which is unbalanced just like the one before.
"Same as before" Percy commented emotionlessly tossing the sword away.
"Holy Hera. Why does no sword suit you?" Antiope growled in frustration looking at him hoping for an answer.
Percy shrugged not knowing the answer. He started his training this morning apparently the only way for him to go back to the mortal world is to finish the training so he can protect himself from monsters.
A part of him wondered is there any reason for him to go back, his mother is dead. He still has his best friend, Jason but what if the monsters try to get him through Jason. He will be damned if that happened.
He looked at the knife scar on his palm and clenched his fist remembering the oath he made to himself, he will slay every monster in the world taking revenge for his mother's death.
The group of superheroes listened as Percy explained to Jason where he was and what he was doing.
"So that's why I didn't tell you "Percy said softly looking at Jason "Mom died because of me, just because I am a son of Poseidon. I didn't want to endanger you, Ma, and Pa. I won't forgive myself if something happened to any of you because of me".
Jason didn't say anything, he just walked towards him looking Percy in his eye. Neither said anything for a minute before both hugged each other.
Reyna smiled at the reunion happy for Percy if anyone deserved happiness it's Percy. She remembered how broken he was when she met him.
Reyna was sitting on the beach looking at the sea admiring its beauty. She always wondered what the man's world will be like. Will it be filled with greedy men who will kill their own for their growth like many of her sisters told or will it be filled with generous men who will sacrifice their life for their loved ones like Helen told?
That's something she wanted to find out. She wanted to explore the man's world unravelling its mystery ever since she was small. She even tried a few times to leave this island only to be caught red handed by her mother. Her mother said one day she will get her chance to explore men's world and one day she will bring light upon men's world.
She heard a snap of twig and snapped her head towards the sound to see a boy who is almost her age was staring at her in shock.
"Sorry. I didn't expect you here "He said turning to leave when Reyna called him "Wait. You can stay here".
Percy stood still for a minute contemplating what to do before he sat down a few feet away from her.
Neither spoke to each other for a minute. Reyna knew about the boy Perseus Jackson, son of Lord Poseidon who will stay in Themyscira till he finished his training under the orders of Lord Poseidon though she had not met him until now. Her mother only allowed Antiope, Artemis, and Helen to visit him and from what she heard Antiope and Artemis are training him. She even eavesdropped her mother and Antiope speaking about how he slew a Minotaur without any experience.
She glanced at him who was staring emotionlessly at the sea as if it offended him personally or something. She noticed he is handsome with perfect jaw and beautiful sea green eyes; he has broad shoulders and well muscular for his age. She thought he would have a nice smile.
"Do you want to say anything?" Percy asked abruptly snapping her out of her thoughts.
"Huh" Reyna asked embarrassedly mentally scolding herself.
Percy turned to see her; a small smirk formed on his face obviously enjoying her discomfort "You were staring at me for past few minutes ".
"You have beautiful eyes "Reyna said stupidly before closing her mouth at her stupidness.
A small but a genuine smile formed on his face confirming Reyna's thought about his smile being nice.
She extended her hand towards Percy making him to raise an eyebrow at her gesture.
"Isn't this how you introduce yourselves in your world?" Reyna asked confusedly.
"We do but I am surprised you know this "Percy said.
"I study books from library to know more about the men's world "Reyna explained to Percy.
Percy extended his hand and shook hers "Percy Jackson ".
Reyna replied with a smile "Reyna ".
That's how their friendship begin soon they two hit off together well. Maybe it's because they two are the only in the same age group or maybe they are the only demigods with destructive powers, they don't know the reason, but they were glad to have each other. He told her about his family at the men's world. He told him about his mother, his best friend and everything he knew about the men's world.
During their free time they used to spar with each other, despite him having less experience with sword than her he is a master swordsman especially since he started to wield Anakulomos given by her mother from Amazonian vault.
He quickly bonded with other Amazons; the ones who disliked males respected him for his skills. He is a master swordsman, good with a spear, throwing knives and decent with all other kind of weapons except bow and arrow.
She never saw what happened during his first archery class, but Antiope told him he managed to hit a rock behind him and other few times he tried well let's say it ended with few angry Amazons chasing him only for him to jump in a river and staying in it till everyone went to sleep.
Once the two friends stepped out of the embrace Jason said smilingly "I may have forgiven but still you have to convince Ma and Pa".
"I will "Percy said surely not wanting to run away from his past.
Reyna walked towards punching him slightly on his shoulder. "It's good to know someone wanted to beat you to pulp like me "Reyna said grinning at Jason who sheepishly rubbed his neck.
"Get in line "Percy commented cheekily knowing how many wanted to beat him to pulp.
Reyna's smile faded once the image of the golden trident popped on her head.
"How did you get the Trident of Poseidon?" Reyna asked him.
"What do you mean by trident of Poseidon?" Hazel asked for the first time remaining silent throughout the friends' reunion.
"She meant this" Percy said tapping his golden gauntlets against each other, instantly the same beautiful golden trident appeared in his hands.
"So, is this a weapon of so-called 'God'?" Leo asked sceptically still not believe in God.
"It is Mr. Valdez" Percy said.
"Please Leo is enough. Mr. Valdez makes me feel like an old man".
"Well Leo it is a weapon of God "Percy said again "If it is not then Python wouldn't have been dead".
"No way-" Leo started only to be interrupted by Hazel. "It is Leo. Its aura is greater than anything I have experienced". Then something clicked in her mind "That's what protected you from my magic ".
On seeing Percy's confused reaction, she explained about the tracking magic she tried to use to find him.
"You are right. It maybe due to the trident. It's one of the powerful weapons which contains magic. It is only reasonable to assume it protected me from your magic" Percy said thoughtfully.
"Still, you didn't answer my question "Reyna asked placing her hands on her hips.
Percy took a deep breath and said "It was after two months I left Themyscira ".
Percy was swimming in Atlantic Ocean trying to get rid of the annoying buzzing sound echoing in his head.
He has been hearing that noise for weeks. Usually, the noise will eventually fade after few minutes but today it has been annoying him for hours. So here he is trying to find out the source of noise.
After hours of swimming, he reached a place at a depth 12,000 metres from the surface. The pressure at this depth would have crushed anyone but he is not anyone. He swam for few minutes when the buzzing stopped suddenly. He looked at the cave in front of him. It looked like a normal underwater cave but the power emanating from the cave was nothing like he had experienced. He slowly took a step inside the cave and was marvelled by its inner beauty. The whole cave is filled with gems and stones making the cave to dazzle brightly. There is no sunlight at this depth but still the cave is dazzling. It must be some sort of magic he thought but what intrigued him the most is the golden trident.
"Ugghh" Percy clutched his head in discomfort as the buzzing got more intense.
He glared at the trident and started to walk towards it hoping to get rid of the noise soon. But with every step he took towards the trident the buzzing noise increased. When he was near the trident, he couldn't bear the noise vibrating within his ears. It looked like it was just a moment away from bursting his ear drums.
With every will power he had he took hold of the trident with a roar. Once he held the trident the noise stopped, and the room was filled with a blinding glow.
Once his vision returned, he saw he was not in the cave but instead he was in some place underneath the ocean. He noticed a war was happening on seeing the destruction around him. The whole place was littered with bodies, the ocean was filled with blood oozing out from the bodies.
He was startled by a booming voice echoing throughout the battlefield "ENOUGH".
He looked around and saw a fifteen feet figure appearing out of nowhere with the same golden trident in his hand. He had a large beard and stormy sea green eyes with raven black hair just like him.
That's when it dawned on him, he is staring at his father: Lord Poseidon.
"YOU ATLANTEANS ARE WAGING WAR WITHIN YOURSELF DESTROYING THE SEA AND OTHER MARINE LIVES" He roared sending shivers to his spine. He heard stories from Amazons about his father being the one of the most dangerous gods on Olympus and now he knows it is true. He clutched the trident in his hand bringing it down, he declared "THUS HEREBY I SENTENCE EVERY ONE OF YOUR KIND TO DEATH. FROM THIS MOMENT THERE WILL BE NO ATLANTEAN IN EXISTENCE".
Soon he was surrounded by a blinding glow, once the light faded, he found himself in the cave. His body was covered with a golden scale armour, and he was clutching the golden trident in his hand. He can only stare it in horror, this weapon is responsible for the doom of entire civilization. During his stay in Themyscira he heard rumours about his father destroying an entire civilisation, but he never knew it was true. He felt disgusted by the weapon, he threw it across the cave and stormed out of the place.
The heroes assembled in the living room were in shock on hearing the story. An entire civilisation was doomed and the weapon responsible for that is within the room. Reyna already knew about the fate of Atlanteans, so this information didn't disturb her like others.
"If you left that weapon there then how do you have it now? "Leo asked the same question running through others mind.
But it was Reyna who answered "It's a weapon of God. Only those who are worthy can wield it. If the weapon chooses someone it will not leave them till, they are dead or they have done something making them unworthy".
"True. I did everything to get rid of this, but it didn't leave me" Percy said making the trident disappear. "I never wanted to use the weapon. One wrong move and whole continent will be under the ocean. The only time I used it was to kill Python. If there was any other option, I wouldn't have used the trident".
They were interrupted by the robotic voice of Buford "Sir you asked me remind you of your date with your girlfriend".
"Crap "Leo cursed looking at the others "Sorry guys I have to go".
"No problem, man. Don't try to screw it up" Frank patted him on his back.
Leo said to Percy "It's nice meeting you Percy. If you need any help my tower is always open for you ".
Percy nodded with a smile "I will keep that in mind ".
Leo looked at the pretty Amazon and said "You too Princess Reyna. Any superhero is a friend of mine".
"Thank you, Mr. Valdez," Reyna said politely though her lips slightly twitched at being called 'Princess'. She never liked anyone calling her called Princess expect Percy.
"Please it's just Leo "Leo said dismissively before rushing out to get ready for his date.
Soon both Hazel and Frank left to New Orleans after revealing their secret identity to Percy and Reyna saying they trust them.
Once it was just the three Jason turned to Percy "Are you ready to meet Ma and Pa?"
"Never said I won't "Percy said cheekily.
Reyna stood there awkwardly now wanting to disturb them. On seeing her awkwardness Percy said "You can come with us Reyna ".
"Of course not. You are going to meet your family after many years I don't want to disturb that" Reyna said truthfully.
"Nonsense. Ma and Pa will be happy to you "Jason said agreeing with Percy.
When Reyna started to protest Percy gave her his famous baby seal eyes. Damn that look how can someone say no to that. "Fine" She finally relented.
"Good but before that we are going to my place" Percy informed.
"Your place?" Jason asked incredulously.
"What? You didn't expect me to live in some underwater cave, did you?"
"Kind of "Jason admitted sheepishly.
Percy rolled his eyes at his reply.
"Brace yourselves "he said before grabbing his best friends' shoulders and vapour travelling them to his place.
