Eddie Thawne wasn't one for small talk, and this elderly woman in line, talking about her cats and grandkids and grandkids that her cats had, had just about put the nail in the coffin of any patience he had left for the socialization device. Finally the line died down and he stood before the bank teller. As he handed her his deposit slip she was suddenly tied up, gagged. Instinctively he checked the vault, using his detective shield to cut through the massive crowd, and found it open with drawers of cash missing. Quickly he opened his phone.
"Bare...yeah, First Central has just been robbed... someone with superspeed".
"I was just about to hand the teller my deposit slip when literally right before my eyes she was tied up and gagged".
"And you immediately decided to check the vault like a good little boy"!?
Eddie had just about had enough of his replacement, a slick haired sleaze Named Winston Blythe who seemed intent on accusing him of the crime.
"It was the logical course of action, given that every bank employee had been tied up".
"Very amusing detective Thawne, but who's to say that you're not the perpetrator we're looking for"?
"Because Eddie doesn't own a pair of 2015 Greenlight Specials", Barry stated, not looking up from the smudge on the ground that he and Julian Albert were intently looking at.
"How the hell could you know that Allen"? Blythe asked.
"Because he's my brother, he's never owned them".
"I meant how do you know they're Greenlight Specials, let alone what year, Greenlight has been in business for 35 years".
"Because the smudge left inside the vault contains a special version of carbon rubber that was more resistant to ware that only the 2015 model used. They recalled that same year because they actually wore down faster".
"So"?
"So, detective Blythe, I suggest we find this man", Barry said, circling a photo print of a still from a security camera that showed Eddie, the elderly woman, and a man with a ball cap, "he's the only one who is wearing 2015 Greenlight Specials".
Blythe grumbled and stalked off, leaving Eddie and the forensics team.
"I swear, they get a genius to replace you"...
"Thank you", Julian said appreciatively, "at last, someone recognizes my worth".
"And I get the jackass of the century".
"Don't worry about it", Barry said, putting his arm over his brother's shoulder, "you'll never get replaced with me".
"Very touching Allen", Julian said, "but we've got a bigger problem than your brother's replacement. I used your friend Cisco's gadget and found traces of meta-particulates in the air. Nothing damaging to us normal humans, you and detective Thawne withstanding, but a metahuman was in here before you two".
Barry nodded and turned to Eddie.
"What do you say the Flash and Cobalt Blue teamup for this one"?
"It's Blue Cobalt...you know what, I've got to talk to Cisco about this whole name thing".
"My names are legendary Eddie. Ever heard of Captain Cold, Heatwave, The Flash? my names buddy, and if you stick with it, Blue Cobalt is going to be a legendary household name".
"I sound like a crayola color".
Barry chuckled to himself as he listened to Eddie and Cisco arguing about a new name for Eddie's superhero persona. Caitlin sat to his right, looking over some data sheets on her tablet. Sidling up to her he gently took her hand in his.
"What do you say we leave the kids for a while so mommy and daddy can have some alone time"!?
Caitlin blushed at the offer.
"Mommy and daddy aren't married yet".
"But they sleep in the same bed, which begs the question...why aren't they married"?!
"Maybe it's because the kids can overhear them talking and are discusted by the conversation", Cisco said, covering his ears.
Now it was Barry's turn to blush.
"I really need to learn to whisper", he said. Caitlin giggled self-consciously.
"Yes you do".
Barry smiled and picked up his ringing phone.
"Hello...yes...yes, I'll be there on the next train".
Star City
Oliver Queen sat quietly in his office at Queen Consoledated, looking over some forms when a knock sounded on his door.
"Come in".
"Mr. Queen, I'm sorry to bother you like this".
"It's all right Lorain".
"There's been a break in at our downtown warehouse, something big was stolen".
The sound of running feet and clicking wheels caused people to turn and look at the lanky blonde man as he ran through the streets, sending apologies to those he ran into. He came to a stop as he reached his destination, an industrial warehouse in downtown Star City. Instantly his mind went into detective mode, his eyes picking out details and sorting through his encyclopedic brain, looking for matches in his catelog of information and storing it away for later reference. It was during this process that he realized that a man in a plain suit was trying to get his attention. At his side was a tall, Mediterranean woman with long black hair and a blank face, and beside her was a blonde woman with glasses, taking notes on a conversation the black haired woman was having with a female detective.
"Excuse me", the man in the suit said, finally getting through, "but are you Mr. Allen"?
"Yes, I'm sorry, I'm Barry Allen, and you must be Oliver Queen".
"Yes, it seems that I am in your debt, thank you for coming such a long way to help us".
"Anything I can do to help. Who is the lead detective"?
"I am", the female detective said, her hand out to shake Barry's, "Detective Margaret Sawyer, thank you for coming all this way. We're looking at a stolen industrial centrifuge".
"And since it's possibly metahuman you went to the city that has the experience"?
"Is it that obvious", Margaret asked, brushing blonde hair behind her ear.
"Kinda. Anyways, where was the centrifuge being kept"?
"Right here", Oliver said, indicating a large, open space. Barry let out a whistle at the size of the area.
"That is one big piece of machinery", he said, immediately getting on the ground. To the blonde woman, who was standing beside the Mediterranean woman, Barry was quite amusing. To the Mediterranean he was equally amusing, but more as a mother who is amused with her child, but to Oliver it was just weird.
"Excuse me Mr. Allen, but what are you doing"?
"Wafting for fumes, exhaust, any indication of power tools or vehicles"?
"I thought we had established metahuman presence", the detective said.
"It's a possibility", Barry said, pulling out a meter, which immediately went off, "and now it's confirmed. It's crazy to think that one guy could do this".
"One man did this"?
"Yes, you can see the impressions of where his feet were, the rubber soles of his boots left behind bits of torn rubber where the cracked concrete tore at them, and look at where the centrifuge was bolted down, you can see where one side was lifted, then the other. And that", he said, indicating a large hole in the southeast wall, "is where our metahuman made his escape".
Oliver looked at Barry with an impressed look while the forensics specialist just smiled. He had a feeling he would enjoy his time in Star City.
